I write because I love to read, but I have specific tastes...

If I was offered a job as a professional reader with no strings attached, I would take it. Getting paid to sit around and read while drinking tea all day—I'm there. Since that’s not possible, I became an author.

I write the books I want to read—stories that give me the immersive reading experiences I crave. When a series grabs me, and it's all I can think about, I'm SO happy. When my inner dialogue starts sounding like the protagonist of my current read, I think, Oh yeah, this is IT. This is what I love.

When I finish a book, and I NEED to immediately grab the next one in the series, that’s the intensity I crave. When I binge read an entire series, I want to feel like my own reality changed—as if the stories I read affected the real world just a little. After a great series I'm a little wiser, a little more grateful for my everyday existence, and a little more aware that my personal perspective is not everyone's.

Personally, I like to spend time in fictional worlds where justice is exacted with a vengeance, even though good and bad are not always black and white. Give me raw stories with a main character who occasionally makes me laugh, is flawed like we all are, and feels like a friend by the end of the first few chapters. They don’t have to be a friend I always LIKE, per se, but a part of me has to root for them.

For me, the sentence structure is important. Too much passive voice, and I'm out. I do not mind four-letter words at all though. Sex in books can go either way—fade to black or show me the details, but either way there has to be a reason it’s in the story. I'm also into heroic pets, plots that seem totally unhinged but all come together in the end with a BANG, and long series so I always have more to look forward to.

Those are the types of stories I love reading, so that’s how I write. If you’re into some or all of the above then I think we are going to get along fantastically.

I really want to rate it more than 5 stars but then again there are just not enough stars in the universe to adequately rate how awesome Flock of Wolves was.

I am so in love with Sydney Rye, not Joy Humbolt but Sydney Rye, the woman she has made herself into, the tough, kick ass, strong woman who will do anything to make things right for the world, even walk away from those she loves when she needs to and that just makes me love her even more.

Flock of Wolves was a great story, beyond great really, Sydney fought her own mind, body and soul and the outcome will be anyone's guess.

I have more respect for Robert after this story, i won't go as far to say I like him...lol but I do respect him more and his devotion to Sydney is gaining more ground with me.

Having another glimpse of Declan was amusing he just refuses to give up and I know he say's it's about Justice but seriously it's got nothing to do with Justice he just wants to posses Joy again but the thing he doesn't get is that Joy no longer exists.

Flock of Wolves was a very enjoyable and insightful read.

If you've been reading the Sydney Rye series, you are going to LOVE Book #10...Flock of Wolves. Emily Kimelman manages to keep the momentum going with ease, and some reader anxiety, as you follow the continued stories of the characters that we have met in her previous books, while exploring background stories of some of these same characters. There are still enough plot twists to keep you on the edge of your seat and to leave you wanting to know when Book #11 is coming out! Sit back and enjoy another unbearably good read about Sydney Rye and Blue!! If you're like me and can't put a good book down, I stayed up until 3:30 am in order to finish this book....it's that good and I could NOT put it down! Good thing I'm retired and don't have to get up in the morning!! :-)

I love this series and this book is riveting. I love the different POV’s - it gives so much depth to the story. This one ends on another cliffhanger, actually more than one, and it’s just an incredible story with twists and surprises on almost every page.

Is Sydney in control of herself or has someone taken control of her thought processes? After recuperation in a hospital Sydney teams up with Robert to find the prophet who had saved her, but now seems to control her thought processes. Sydney wants Robert to take her to the cave where he had seen her before. Across the Atlantic Joyful Justice has to decide what to do with a video that shows Sydney in the midst of a gun battle. Anita decides she must go out and try to find out who exactly the prophet is. April begins to spread the word of the prophet in the United States.

Sydney and Robert struggle through the desert facing different obstacles but they find the prophet. What they discover surprises both of them. As the novel ends some old loves are rekindled and some new loves are appear to be lost. Maybe some of the friction between Sydney and Robert is starting to lessen. Can anyone control Sydney Rye?

Flock of Wolves delivers a powerful message through its characters, especially Sydney Rye, a woman with the strength and courage to do what is right, even though it may cost her everything, including her life. Once again bringing together many of the characters from Emily Kimelman’s previous book, “In Sheep’s Clothing”, each of their point of view and experiences adds to the power of the message.

Flock of Wolves is packed with action that keeps you reading. It is fast paced and filled with turns that keep you engaged in the story. I’m looking forward to reading the next Sydney Rye to see how this story moves forward.

It had been almost a year since I'd read the last Sydney Rye book so I was pleased to see that Ms. Kimmelman had released #9 and #10 in the series. Unfortunately I messed up and skipped over #9 and downloaded #10 and was well into it before I realized my mistake. Truthfully it doesn't sound like I missed a whole lot of Sidney's journey by not reading #9 and I'm not sure I really discovered much more by reading #10 Flock of Wolves. Hey, don't wolves run in packs not flocks? I've enjoyed this series and I really don't enjoy giving anything less than solid reviews so if Ms. Kimmelman hadn't pleaded with readers to post reviews of her book I probably wouldn't be writing this one. From the many 5 star reviews I've read I suspect many who read this won't be thrilled with my comments. Truth is this book despite the intro about Sydney traveling the globe etc. seemed like a whole lot going on but nothing really happening. With few exceptions and plenty of cliff hangers this book felt more like a prequel or set up for the next rather than an actual complete story within itself. And I'm not really fan of the writing style with multiple story lines where the author continuously flips back and forth between four characters to get the P.O.V. on what's happening in their life. Oh there's some romance for some old characters not name Sydney and one romance really knocks poor Sydney off her axis just when she thinks she knows what she wants. There's plenty of action as Sydney and Robert get involved in a couple of gun battles. Sydney's mom April becomes a main character. The author introduces a confusing concept that somehow Sydney suffers from almost a split personality disorder as her old self Joy Homboldt average young woman with simple dreams battles for her soul with her new self Sydney Rye a stone cold killer for justice. My problem with this thought process is watching Joy become Sydney I always thought she was joy only a Joy that was more focused, more determined to live to her full potential, not that Joy and Sydney were at odds with one another. We did get to see the evolution of billionaire Robert as his love for Sydney help curb his self-serving tendencies as he acknowledges he loves Sydney and taking care of her is his most important goal. I thought the best part of this book is how the author portrayed how religion and faith can be sued to manipulate and motivate people in both positive and negative ways.

I received this early ARC for a honest review. Honestly I let this book take me on a journey. There was a combination of stories going on that I felt each was leading me somewhere that stated at one place and knew that the whole thing would be shook up at the end. Sydney and Robert, Sydney and Mulberry, Mulberry and Sandy. I mean wow. Not to leave anyone else out because it was just a lot of feelings going around.

April. I know I didn't like her after all the crap she has done in the past but I am letting her grow on me. Her message is a simple message that is a struggle everyone faces. One that has been a war from the beginning of time. What is our value with god? What should we believe? Very powerful questions. To see April stand up and take charge. I was very proud of her. Even if the Sydney stuff doesn't pan out.

Questions I scream at the book at some point. What the hell is going on with Sydney? Will we find "HER" ? How much Brain damage can this girl have? Mulberry??? really??? I am so ugh. WHAT is Sydney going to do about Mulberry? ( I am kind of glad how it ended now)

As you can see I had a bunch of stuff going on for this book. So many Feelings. I was confused as to how I wanted it to end. I wanted to stop at one point and cry because I knew that the journey I thought we where on had changed and I was scared the ending was going to be worse then any I thought of. I did reread the ending twice because I am up in the air with how I feel. It was a plot twist for sure. I feel going into the next book we will be getting a new life and different growth for Sydney. I am leaving out so much. Yes, you should read this book. You will loose your mind if you don't. Go back and pick up them all and binge read them.

Lets be clear. I've been binge reading this series for the past few weeks and this book almost made me give it up and walk away. Also, for the love of god can someone please edit all of these for grammar errors [Possible spoilers ahead]

These characters are seriously starting to annoy me. I'm getting to a point where I honestly want some of them to die and for the author to move these characters into a new direction or at least a new outlook. If I have to hear about Sydney's mental breakdown/thunder/lightning arc one more time I may actually chuck my kindle across the room. The whole thing with Mulberry was so predictable and absolutely not necessary. Give the girl a break for once. She needs a win. I couldn't care less about April and the entire religious zealotry arc that's going on. So absolutely unnecessary and while some of that was necessary for book 9 to keep it going in 10 is just a sermon I didn't want to read about. Bobby needs a new hobby and a new toy. Only thing I really enjoyed was Anita's arc getting some attention. Honestly, not even sure I want to keep reading but I bought the 9-12 set when I got the 1-8 set so I'll finish there and see how I feel. Personally would really love it if this series stopped being one big soap opera and focused on one MYSTERY story line with minor tiny character arcs as a background... instead of one book leading into another book without any real mystery/bad guy/story start and resolution in sight.

Ten books later and I'm still intrigued by this story line. Sydney Rye has gone a long way from being the energetic innocent dog walker to an enemy of Isis and wanted by the US Government. Her story has stretched from this young woman struggling with life after her brother's murder to training for combat while joining forces with those fighting for justice to becoming a leader in the war against Isis. This time there's a new prophet, Her, and while some people want to follow Her's thinking others want her dead. Rye has a strong connection to her companion dog, Blue, and her partners in business and friendship, Dan, Mulberry and Robert. Over the last few books we've heard different points of view from her mother, April, a friend, Anita, along with Robert and Mulberry. What it means to be a lover, partner and friend has blurred a bit for Sydney and as a reader I long for her to have that connection, but is it in her future? This is not a series you can just jump into and find Sydney on a fresh mission, they all connect from one to ten and must be read in order. You won't regret it and time will fly by too quickly as you get sucked into the world of Joyful Justice. Even though I'm a huge fan and would say anything to have you buy these books, I'm being honest enough to say it was fantastic. I received a copy from Kimelman and have left my review voluntarily.

Flock of Wolves (Sydney Rye, Book #10)
by Emily Kimelman

Okay, this book disappointed me. Not because it isn't well plotted and paced; it was. Not because the proofing and editing weren't top-notch; they were. Not because there wasn't plenty of action; there was. So, here's why I lopped off 2 stars.

One star because following the storyline was difficult. There are at least 5 major lines to follow in first person POV: Sydney's, Robert Maxim's, Anita's, Mulberry's, and April's. Each chapter started a new narration, and most chapters contained at least two. Unless you were reading the entire book at one sitting, there was a lot of backtracking to be sure you knew who the speaker was. I found that switching back and forth confusing, not only for not being sure the first person narrator was, but also because each person has a separate plot line to follow. Too much.

The second star came off for the cliffhanger ending. Sheesh. We leave not knowing if one character is alive or dead and with absolutely none of the plot lines tied up. Nope. Not good at all.

Will I read another if and when it comes out? I haven't decided.

Not for kid but definitely good adult read

Page stopping adventure with real life emotions spiraling out of control as real life tends to do Does anyone truly deserve to be happy and grateful. Grown up feelings and decisions and consequences and most importantly we all matter. It is shameful that some men treat women as a possession and some men treat their dog better than their wife. A woman matters. A woman even one who has made mistakes should never be beaten, manipulated or berated We are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God. Thank goodness He forgives. I often think of how He must cry when He sees what we have become. Sorry for long boring review. This series has enlightened me and it’s like I can see what I am reading. If you are one of us that when we read we can actually see the story - this series is for you. You will cry and you will laugh and you will realize that these things do happen in our world but you will also be more patient and smile and next time someone is upset you will realize that just maybe more is going on than you think. Sincerely, Avid Reader who loves a good series!!! All the best!

I recommend this book
OMG I am one of the lucky ones who receive the ARC copy (I also preordered it) to read, look for typos, etc. Well let me tell you...I finished it a few days ago with tears rolling down my cheeks (No spoilers here-just because I cry) and needed the time to process what I had read. Now I had just finished reading the previous 9 Sydney Rye adventures because I was needing me some Sydney Rye and tore into A Flock of Wolves. Needless to say I wasn't disappointed nor did I want it to end, but alas all good things must end and now I can't wait for number 10. Then, and here's the best thing ever, I saw that the author and her editor were coming to Miami (about an hour and a half due to traffic from where I live) so I got to meet them! What a treat that was. But I'm getting off the track - so back to my review - I love, love, loved Flock of Wolves. We caught up with a lot of the previous characters and then a surprise cliffhanger (in my opinion). I cannot wait to see where Emily Kimelman goes with it. So until then, I'm gonna hang in there.

I truly enjoy this series. If you are looking for International intrigue, power plays, murder, insanity, social issues, justice, and love in many forms, then this would be a good series for you to read. In hindsight, the beginning of the series begins slowly. But as things progress, so does the depth of the plot lines as well as the development of the characters.

This book deals mostly with Sydney and Blue with Robert, April, Anita, Mulberry, and Dan. This series is constantly evolving with multiple plot lines intertwining and people who are changing because of multiple factors. I can't put the books down and when I turn around, I've read the last page. Thus begins the wait for the next book.

This series must be read in order or all the twists and turns and the nuances of the characters would be lost. It is definitely PG-13.

I found this whole series the most enjoyable read. Book 10 Flock of Wolves was given to me, as I am part of Emily Kimelman's ARC. That in no way influenced my review of one of the best series I have ever read. One can not read this series without noticing the complexities of her characters! In "Flock of Wolves" book 10 of the series, we finally learn who controls one of the world's strongest vigilantes, Sidney Rye (aka Joy Humboldt). I found this book to be the most intriguing book of the entire series. Many questions answered, many questions unanswered, and some more questions introduced. I hope the series continues, but as the old adage goes "leave them wanting more". Emily Kimelman has accomplished that and so much more with these books. Qudos Ms Kimelman, qudos! Please continue to entertain us with more of Sydney, Mulberry, Dan, Merl, Lenox, Anita, and even Robert.
I consider this an excellent adventure.

I was offered an ARC copy of this book for an honest review. Here it is:
I have no words to describe my feelings on finishing this book. So many things to think about, so many stories in each character, and, yes, a LOT of emotion and introspection. Not something you would expect in reading an action-packed thriller about a ‘badass’ woman! Flock of Wolves answers several lingering questions from previous Sydney Rye adventures, but also brings up more to explore and expand upon in the future. Is Robert Maxim softening? Is Mulberry pulling away? Will… well, you’ll just have to read this awesome 10th book in this amazing series!

Once again Emily Kimelman has written an awesome book that draws you in from the start and keeps you engrossed throughout the book! You won't be able to put the book down until the end and will be hoping for more! It was quite the roller-coaster ride and such a great book! If you like suspense, action, and a badass woman all in one book, this is the book for you! I loved the way it was written in each character's perspective. Reading what each character is thinking as it's happening is how I was drawn into the book so quickly! I loved every minute of this book. Thanks Emily, for another great book and look forward to the next in the series!

FLOCK OF WOLVES by Emily Kimelman Sydney Rye 10
Deadly mission, someone on the team was trying to kill her. Robert a man who showed no weakness, he would destroy all, if it would serve him. They tried , she thought she was dying, but she survived. Yet, they had used and controlled her. Dan couldn’t leave, how could she trust Robert, nobody used Sydney. Powerful story, that sweeps you in a run for her life, to be free, to know what was real once again. The series is a good one, this book, is filled with emotion, of what Sydney is going thru. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

I was given an ARC of this book in order to look for editing issues and for my honest review.
Having been introduced to the Prophet and "Her" in the last book, I avidly read Flock of Wolves to see just who this prophet was and if she was controlling Sydney. The answer was a total surprise to me! I will not leave an spoilers in this review.

It was interesting to see the changes in Anita and also Robert Maxim in this book. AND Mulberry! Well, you just better read the story to learn all the nuances!!

Great story telling as always Emily!

I loved this book and this entire series!

Flock of Wolves is a full on, adrenaline pumping, action packed, page turner that has you glued to the edge of your seat. While there are quite a few POVs this time around, it helps to consider that the story is shining a light on how Sydney Rye is inspiring the people around her. The breath of air that is giving people the courage to speak out, rise up, and find change. I love the powerful message this book spreads and I look forward to continuing on Sydney’s journey.

This is the 10th in the Sydney Rye Mysteries and I just cannot believe how Emily keeps outdoing the last! I could not put this book down. I loved how this book tied up some loose ends from the last book and yet left you wanting and waiting for the next one. This read has to be close to the top of my favorites from Emily and I cannot wait to see what is coming next. I am so so so happy that Blue has a big part in this book too! This book is full of the suspense and twists and turns that we love about this series. I am an ARC reader and I am giving my honest review.

The Sydney Rye books should be read in order because of the progression of the story and characters…but it is SO WORTH IT!!! I loved, loved, loved this newest story. It was great! Through all the twists and turns, Sydney never fails to amaze me, no matter what the people around her are doing or thinking…she always sees through it and figures it out. These stories really hit home with the “Women’s March” in Washington, DC and the “Me Too” movement…just the kind of things that Sydney would be rooting for. I highly recommend the book. Can’t wait for the next one!

I absolutely love the Sydney Rye series - Emily Kimelman is a great weaver of stories! And I have to say, this is the best so far (yeah, I know I think I say it each time - but it's so true!

This book gives us more of an insight into each of the main characters background and how they all got to this point. To see how each person views what is happening really makes the story even deeper and more true.

I encourage everyone who enjoys mysteries, to check out this set of books. You won't be disappointed and you'll come away feeling like a person can do anything they put their mind too!

Interesting

The story line is captivating and telling the story from each person's perspective is a bit distracting. In book 9 it was enjoyable because Sydney was missing and finding her through others made sense, however, in this version the switching back and forth between characters was annoying. Hopefully, in the next book the author will return to the original format. I still want to follow Sydney's story but I'll see with the next installment if the story is good enough to win my loyalty.

This book felt a little slow compared to some of the others yet at the same time, I was left with wanting to keep reading. The ending with Sydney and learning what happened was very interesting. While I've said this before, I don't necessarily want to keep reading this series, this book actually does have me wanting to read the next one to see how Sydney is. However, I'm kinda over the whole multiple perspectives. The reason why is because not all of the different people's perspectives are fleshed out fully.

Now we're diving into the psychological and emotional areas that most of us live with most of our lives. I love the message that "we decide our own value; it's up to each individual to know their worth." But when you start to realize there's more than one voice in your head and trying to make sense of that and make a decision as to whether or not it's good or right for you and should you listen it can be very disturbing. You really have to accept who you are and work with who you are to either continue on or make changes. I can't wait to see where Sydney is going to go with all this!!

Love Sydney

Love Sydney Rye series. This is another fantastic book. Might be #10 but still fresh and exciting. Story is full of twists surprises. We learn things about characters from previous
books. Sydney has become a strong and tough woman but feels she can't love because of
this life. Emily knows how to keep us on edge with cliffhangers that have us wanting more.
Can't wait for the next adventure.

If you don't know Sydney Rye, you are missing out on one incredible woman

Sydney Rye is an strong character who continues to develop and change throughout the series. While this story is quite a bit different than the rest of the series it's very good. It's not as action-packed as the rest of the series but it's still very entertaining and I never want to miss any of these stories.

Romantic saga, a tale of adventure

Great continuation of the Sidney Rye series.
A Flock of Wolves builds tension with Sidney’s injuries, Robert’s protection and their return to Iraq to find ‘Her’. Robert’s love of Sidney and Sydney’s love for Mulberry propel them deeper into enemy territory. Sydney’s mother‘s life hangs in balance. And the saga continues. Worth reading on a rainy day, by the beach or on vacation. Recommended with caution. Begin at the beginning.

Emily Kimelman has a way with words!

From book number one to number ten, I was captivated by her series of Sydney Rye mysteries! I wish there were ten more to read! Excitement on every page. Also very different story lines that you don't read in every mystery book! I beg you to read her stories as they have a powerful message! I'm a changed woman from reading these books! Thank you Emily! I'm looking for more of your writings!
