Harem of Hearts #1

Allison's Adventures in Underland

Rate this book
Um. Um. Um.
Are you reading this?
If you are, I need your help.

I was at a party; I was running; I fell.
And get this—this is the part you'll never believe—I fell down a rabbit hole.
Like Alice in those old books.

Except in those books, there wasn't blood everywhere.
In those books, the characters weren't all male, attractive, and interested in me.
Forget everything you know about the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit, the March Hare …

This isn't Wonderland; this is Underland.
Violence, sex, drugs, and magic … that's all there is in this place.
There's me, Allison, and there are the men that want me, the enemies that hunt me, and the darkness that's quickly rolling in.

And only I can stop it.
So if you're reading this, will you help me?
Please. I just want to escape this place and go … home.

ALLISON'S ADVENTURES IN UNDERLAND (Book 1 of 3 in the "Harem of Hearts" series) -- is a full-length reverse harem/new adult/dark romance novel, a gritty retelling of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". Don't expect a children's tale; these characters are nothing like their more innocent counterparts. This book contains: drugs, cursing, violence, sex ... and love found in the darkest shadows.

C.M. Stunich is a self-admitted bibliophile with a love for exotic teas and a whole host of characters who live full time inside the strange, swirling vortex of her thoughts. Some folks might call this crazy, but Caitlin Morgan doesn't mind - especially considering she has to write biographies in the third person. Oh, and half the host of characters in her head are searing hot bad boys with dirty mouths and skillful hands (among other things). If being crazy means hanging out with them everyday, C.M. has decided to have herself committed.

She hates tapioca pudding, loves to binge on cheesy horror movies, and is a slave to many cats. When she's not vacuuming fur off of her couch, C.M. can be found with her nose buried in a book or her eyes glued to a computer screen. She's the author of over thirty novels - romance, new adult, fantasy, and young adult included. Please, come and join her inside her crazy. There's a heck of a lot to do there.

“If it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't, it ain't. That's logic.”

My long review is also here

My review has some spoilers (I geuss), you've been warned!

Trigger warnings: drugs, alcohol, murder and mention of attempted rape.

I gotta admit that this was my first reverse harem (that I remember tbh) and it wasn't bad. I mean, it's not that I hate the genre, but I've never read a RH book before, so. I totally loved it, haha.

This is, perhaps, my favorite Alice in Wonderland retelling. It was funny, hot and even dark. Gods, I loved it so much!

This book has it all: multiple and hot love interests, magical and random shit, the classical characters turned into sexy dudes.

I fell for Tee, Dee, Rab, Lar, North and Chesh. hOLY FUCK, RAB, NORTH AND CHESH ARE MY FAVSSSSS. This was a fucking mess from the beginning and I'm really intrigued to know more about them and laugh even more.

All of them are sexy and funny, which is actually even hotter when you see them.

I have a really good time reading it and my only issue was that this book was so fucking short for no reason. And the cliffhanger? Are you fucking serious? If something happens to North, I will set this fucking world on fire. Rab, North and Chesh are my favorites, bUT OH MY FUCKING GODS, RAB IS *chef kiss*

previous review:
That cliffhanger tho!! North, nooo, he's one of my faves 😭😭

Okay, but I'm actually enjoying this?? Idk about you, Allison, but I like one of the twins, the grumpy one 😈🔥

The sea was wet as wet could be,
The sands were dry as dry.
You could not see a cloud because
No cloud was in the sky.
No birds were flying overhead -
There were no birds to fly.

Hahaha...Okay this is supposed to be a prophecy.

Well, if you love Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, good for you! But this book is only making fun of Alice in Wonderland!

There is Allison-who-isn't-Alice and after she witnesses the cold-hearted murder of one her classmates and she get splattered with his blood during a party; she will follow his murderer who has tattoes and bunny ears. Then she will fall inside a large and suspicious hole and she will land in the Underland which is full of half naked gorgeous male creatures/monsters.

Allison will basically salivate for every male she meets including
the twins Tee and Dee (aka Drink Me and Eat Me),
Rab (aka White Rabbit),
Lar (aka the Caterpillar),
North (aka the Duke of Northumbria) and
Chesh (aka the Cheshire Cat).

On her way to meet the King of Hearts, she will drink spiked tea, travel with pirates and eat soup made from giant birds.
Allison has a tragic past. Basically she has the time of her life and she is not sure if she wants to go back home.

This is a very naughty book! Very humorous, very interesting, very different!
I am looking forward to next book in the series. I have a feeling that King of Hearts is not that bad. We will see...

We're all mad for you here.

Wow! This must be my favorite adult retelling of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass! Alice is feisty, and all the classical characters are yummy, hot guys, willing to fulfill all of Allison's wishes.

The story starts with a murder, which prompts Al to go down the rabbit hole. Once there, she finds out that the land is no longer called Wonderland, but Underland, since the Riveting came upon and turned most women into men (it appears women were the big deal in Wonderland, as they possessed the strongest magic). And of course Allison is part of a prophecy. ;)

Tweedledum and Tweedledee are by far my favorite characters, renamed Dee and Tee (not sure which is which). Tee is close to my heart, and I hope for a happy ending where he's concerned.

Just so you know, there is no sex scene until the last third of the book, but this is definitely no YA. I'm expecting more sex in the next installment.

P.S. Nasty cliffhanger at the end. *sigh*

Alice in Wonderland + Reverse Harem + smexy scenes = that's like the stuff I daydream about so imagine my shocked delight when I found out about this.
I have to say, it wasn't quite as epic as I wanted and hoped it would be but pretty entertaining nonetheless.

It’s the dark, sexy retelling of Alice in Wonderland I didn’t know I wanted. But now I’m definitely interestedly seeing where this goes.

That’s cliffhanger ending though...

It could’ve happened to anyone...

Ok. I’m going to first start by saying that I am by no means one of those Alice in Wonderland fangirls. So if you are, I have no clue if this book will satisfy you’re craving for that world. BUT what I do know... is if you like reverse harem, campy plots, and campy characters then you absolutely need to read this story.

There is the absolute perfect mix of mysterious plot, campy and dry humor, and a bit of sexual tension.

I really enjoyed this. Heck. I think I loved this and I am DYING to see what comes next. Need MORE!

This is best described as the love child of a fever dream and an acid trip. It is colorful, unique, and bonkers batshit crazy.

My reactions while reading: "what the fuck is going on", "wow we're going there are we", and, my favorite, *stunned silence*.

There are lovely references to the original story: the characters of Wonderland are depicted as hot as sin renditions in Underland. HOWEVER, the heroine would describe a guy as hot panty droppers, then in the same breath call them something along the lines of sleazy boys, and I was sitting here like SO AM I SUPPOSED TO BE TURNED ON OR TURNED OFF. I'M GETTING MIXED SIGNALS HERE. (In retrospect, we're meant to be turned on, but my point still stands)

The book isn't that long but somehow read long? While the storyline overall is intriguing, the writing is all over the place, messy, and honestly not for me. HOWEVER, I am decently interested enough to read the next one, partially for the plot, but mostly to see this reverse harem realized. :) Long live thot points over plot points.

Edit to add: if you decide to pick this up, please be prepared to read how the main character sees an erect member basically every other paragraph.

Okay, this book was weird but in a good way...?

Obviously, Allison's Adventures in Underland is a take on Alice in Wonderland. However, Alice is totally and completely likable. Hell! - she could probably be my twin. She's super fiesty, sassy as all hell, loves book, hates dresses, and basically my lost long twin.

This book starts off like a normal day, there's a dance that everyone needs to attend but Allison would rather wear jeans and a t-shirt, lay around outside, and read. God, sounds like the best day ever - right? Well that doesn't happen because she ends up at this dance and there's a murder. Like a couple pages in someone dies. She sees the whole thing play out and is in shock. I mean, I probably would be too if my nerdy crush guy just got shot in front of my eyes. I probably wouldn't have followed who just murdered my crush like she did but more power to her.

Then of course she's in Underland and doesn't know what fresh hell she just stepped in. Well, this fresh hell is where she meets some sexy shifting kind of guys who want her. But the whole you're the Alice thing was weird because her name is Allison. It was throwing me off for a little bit but then I kind of just gave up and continued reading the book.

Of course there's some weird ass prophecy that Allison is obviously apart of. She meets characters that you would see in Alice in Wonderland. I really liked Tee and Dee and the scenes with Allison. I don't know how to explain it but they were just so sweet. I don't really remember how they were in Alice in Wonderland. I'm thinking I should probably make time for the movie this weekend.

In the end, there's a cliffhanger. I FREAKING HATE CLIFFHANGERS. This one just makes me want the next book ASAP and I have no idea if it's even available on my Kindle. WHY? Because I have so many freaking books loaned to me from KU that I really need to read and get rid of.

I hope it's out now. I can't wait that long. I need to know how everything is going end.

This was an interesting take on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, which is climbing the charts to be one of my favorite retellings. In this story, the book exists, and Lewis Carroll escapes Wonderland when some dark magic killed half of the women, and turned half of the remaining half into men. Lewis was mad, and wrote the stories that skewed the truth of Wonderland with his insanity.

Allison witnesses her crush being shot in the face by a man with white rabbit ears, and she chases after him, falling down the rabbit hole into Underland, where she meets Tee and Dee, twin slaves that the King of Hearts has gifted her with.

The white rabbit and the king have smashed all of the drink me vials, so they set off on a long roundabout journey to find the king and the looking glass. They keep calling her The Alice and pissing her off by saying she’s the prophesied savior of Underland. It’s also infuriating how odd everything and everyone is here. She soon meets Rab, Lar, North, and Chesh who are all shifters, and the six men share with her that her line of women carry their magic inside them still.

They start to train her, but then one night something awful happens, leading to quiiiiite the cliffhanger. And as tempting as it is, I don’t know that I’ll continue the series. Allison is damaged and has trauma, but I didn’t love her character. I DID love Tee and Dee, though I could do without the rest. The premise is interesting enough I guess, and it was definitely fun and whimsical!

We’re bumping this up to 5 stars for the pure addictive-ness of this series ;)😍

Another fun, reverse-harem YA story. Sexy and captivating while you're reading it, but not very deep or meaningful and not favourite material. Still, entertaining and I'm starting the second book now.

A fairytale retelling of Alice in Wonderland, but with more sex and hot guys, and a less cute, innocent Alice. This Alice is an Allison, and she loves to swear. She also loves sex - with more than one guy - and there is no end to the guys she lusts after.

The characters are entertaining, the POV is amusing and the storyline is fun. Chesh and Tee are my faves, and I look forward to what happens in the next book!

I read the sample, the SAMPLE, and could not bring myself to continue, much less PAY for it. The characters have so much potential and yet are poorly represented.

The writing level reminds me of someone who’s middle school creative writing teacher told them they had potential so they never tried to improve and just popped this thing out. Clearly written by a teenager with lusty dreams (literally).

The sample is, I believe, only the first chapter. I have NEVER seen the F-word used so much. It’s disgusting. I’m all for curse words having an effect to push the reader to understand impact of words and emotion. This did none of that. I saw it once a paragraph or more. The author seems to have wanted to just use it like the bored teenager their main character, Allison, is and deigned to see how many times they could get away with writing it.

Usually, I’m in favor of authors providing new takes on old classics. So much potential. However, the end result makes me want to tell the PUBLISHER they should ask for their money back.

I went into this one with high expectations. I just love Alice in Wonderland retellings, especially with a dark or horror aspect to it. Plus a reverse harem? I mean how does that not sound amazing? It fell super short for me though. It was boring and I think I blacked out in the last half of the book lol.

They used f*ck way too much. Like even for me, a big old potty mouth, and I couldn't stand how often they used this word. In the beginning, she also kept referencing the future when explaining something. Like with how in the future she would recognize Tee and Dee's quirks as him feeling.... I just think there are better ways for the author to express other characters' feelings than this.

Constantly referring back to how much she reads. Like we get it, you are a big reader. There was an annoying amount of inner dialogue going on in the story as well. Hard to keep up with what was being said allowed and what wasn't. All in all, neither the MC nor any other character had any real development at all. And I didn't feel like I knew any of them well enough to really like either.

Kept bringing up things like, I'm not into the insta-lust that is happening right now in my book. Like by pointing out the cliche makes it better? Pretty sure that only works on Deadpool. And speaking of insta-lust. Literally, every guy wants her and she wants them. Even with the half-baked explanation, it's still really annoying.

So needless to say, I will not be continuing the series and I'm glad to be done with this book. It had a lot of promise but I just don't feel like it lived up to its full potential at all.

At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about an adult twist on Alice in Wonderland. Turning someone like the Mad Hatter into thirst trap didn’t quite compute in my head, but somehow the author pulled it off. Imagining these characters as current leading men works far better than I expected.

I’ll admit, it took me a couple of tries to get into this book. I read about 6%, paused, and didn’t come back for a month. The blend of whimsical childhood elements and heavier adult themes felt a bit jarring at first. I was also worried the heroes might come across as creepy, especially when they echoed those familiar sayings and had mannerisms related to their character.

But once I gave it another shot, I was hooked. This book turned out to be f**cking great. Tee and Dee completely stole the show, they are adorable and their personalities bounce off each other perfectly. North quickly became another favorite. Lar and Rab haven’t had much page time yet, so I’m reserving judgment there. The Cat still gives me the creeps, but to be fair I’m not a cat person, so that might be influencing me. As for the harem, yes, it’s large, but honestly, it works here and I didn’t mind it at all.

Alison was a badass heroine. She may be confused most of the time, but she stays rational in a way that makes her feel grounded and easy to root for. Her dark backstory also adds depth and clearly separated this retelling from the children’s classic, which I appreciated.

The spice doesn’t show up until about the 60% mark, but the story was so engaging that you don’t miss it. And when it does arrive, it more than delivers. After all that slow build and delicious tension, the payoff is worth every page.

Book two is already downloading….

A book. That's what starts it all, the bloodshed and the violence, the romance and the sex. A goddamn book.

I really enjoyed this! The author took Alice and Wonderland and made it dark and very sexy. I loved to see her different take on each character and was never disappointed!

The world building was amazing! You can tell that the author put so much thought into everything. Down from the details of the clothes to the tattoos on the guys.

Allison was funny and refreshing! I loved that she didn't take any shit from these guys and wasn't waiting for anyone to save her. We were given only a little about her background in flashbacks, I hope in the second book that we learn a little more about her.

All the characters are intense but my favorite characters are Tee and Dee. They had the best introduction if I might say so!

This ended on a cliffhanger and  I can't wait to take another slip down the rabbit hole to see where this goes!

This book is, by far, one of the weirdest books I have ever read. This book starts out with a bang and things slowly spiral from there. I don't think I have ever said "What?" or "What is happening?" so many times in my life. The characters were all really unique and I had a lot of fun trying to figure them out. I can't wait to see more of them in the next book.

“A dark romance that will knock your socks off. C.M. Stunich’s use of imagination is astounding in this spicy, dark and twisted retelling of Alice in Wonderland.”-Nerdywordyreviews

Wow!! I am floored by this story. Of course you’ll want to check triggers before reading this. But again, wow. This is one messed up trip down the rabbit hole… even so, it grasped my attention and I read through book one very quickly.

This story is dark, dirty, twisted, spicy, hectic, and filled with magic.

C.M. Stunich has an extraordinary mind with a brilliant imagination to create such a captivating story! While reading, it was very easy for me to picture the characters, scenery and dialogue.

The main aspects of characters and storyline of Alice in Wonderland are captivated in this book although twisted and in a chaotic way.

It’s true when they say that you never stop reading fairy tales as an adult, they are just spicy and misbehaved now. Haha!

On to book 2!!

I had tried Groupie by this author a few years ago and I just couldn’t get into it so I was hesitant about this one. Glad to report I made it through and I actually enjoyed this story. It was beyond nuts and crazy. Tea in Underland is the number one drug, guaranteed to F you up. Guess this is why tea parties are so big down there lol. This author’s interpretation was insane. I was laughing pretty much since the beginning when after she falls down the rabbit hole and is looking for the infamous ‘drink me’ potion, she finds it somewhere she never would have guessed. Wrapped about the neck of a gloriously naked guy Drink Me as she refers to him isn’t alone and has a twin brother. The twins are also this worlds version of the Tweedles, officially bequeathed to Alice from the King as a sort of welcome gift and early wedding gift. This book definitely deserves the warning and adult label and is not for everyone. There is a lot of drug use and by the end of the book we find out she’s destined for nine guys. I’m skeptical on this less because of semantics and more because I had a hard time keeping the 5 or 6 guys we were introduced to straight. By the end the only two can I confidently feel like I know and that is the twins-Tweedles she meets in the beginning.
We also meet a variety of species, races, I’m not sure how to refer to them all lol. Some of them are also able to change themselves at will which is really freaking cool. By the end Allison’s main goal is to return home, she wants nothing to do with any prophecy especially if it means the world of Underland and regular life on earth depends on her.
It’s made to appear the King and even the Mad Hatter are the bad guys. Or are they?! Everything is so all over the place only time will tell on that. Technically I believe they too are prophesied as one of her nine men but we’ve yet to really get to know either of them so the jury’s out on that. It’s like the book itself is high on something strong and you’re just along for the ride. It should be noted I read via audio so maybe my mind was wandering but it felt a bit choppy for me story wise. It felt like it was all over the place and at times and I found it hard to keep track of who she was talking to or where they were. I’m curious to see where the story goes, I’m just hoping it’s gets a bit easier to differentiate between all her men. As she’s yet to meet them all I’m not entirely optimistic on this!

■I absolutely loved this trilogy. Allison-who-isnt-alice was badass, sassy, strong, feisty and really fantastic to read from!! The sexual tension & banter between the characters was off the chart and I was amazed at how well each character was so fleshed out. I was so worried their would be to many guys and I wouldn't get that connection I need but I was wrong I got it and more!! I went from hating a certain characters from the start to begging to have them for myself by the end. My favorites will always be tee & dee and I've claimed them as my own. I haven't read the original alice so I don't know how this compares but for my dark heart this is the version I choose to love. I couldn't put these books down and when I did I day dreamed about how the characters looked 🙈 it took me 24hrs to read the series and I don't regret a minute of it!! Absolutely awesome and totally weird AF🖤🖤🖤🖤

4/5.

original review: it was so bad at first but then it got really interesting

•••

is this who we are??? is this who we represent??? allison, dearest. you are so- i don’t even know. she’s got the whole squad, that’s all i’m gonna say. 😋 god i’m losing my train of thought already el oh el.

anywayssssss. all of the characters in the book are so unhinged and it’s honestly fun reading this because u have no idea what the fuck they’re gonna do next.

i personally thought that all of the love interests were attractive 🤌 so that’s good, right? this book was all over the place 😁 in like a fever dream, slightly manic kind of way. it really felt like an entire fever dream actually. the world building was so nice (even though it’s literally an alternative alice in wonderland). idk i feel like the vibe was so well executed and you could actually tell what the author was attempting to achieve. i even made a playlist for this book. keep in mind, i only make playlists for very certain books. 🙄🙄 the entire world was so dark and eery (how the fuck do u even spell that?) and melanie martinez-esque

this review is getting a little redundant so i’m gonna leave now 👾 kiss kiss

Wow! Whaaaat did I just read? WTF just happened? The best, most twisted, hot, sexy, unexpectedly strange and weird version of Alice in Wonderland I have read... I wonder how many I have read? Allison is like someone in today's world saying WTF instead of curiouser and curiouser. She's tough and trying to stand her own in the presence of all these ultra hot guys... Tweedledee and Tweedledum the twins called Dee and Tee, the White rabbit called Rab, the caterpillar called Lar, the Duke of Northumberland simply called North, and the Cheshire cat called Chesh. Underland has a severe shortage of females, and Allison has attractions as well as repulsions to these beautiful men that clearly are lusting after her..... Just met Hatter, the March Hare, and the Doormouse. Now on to book 2.

It has and it doesn't has mm. It's weird, is like shot in half way to try to please everybody. They don't really interact(not described at least) but there are some speculations made openly never to be denied or confirmed, not this first book. This fist is like what you would have liked if you are into no m/m on your RH.
I stopped in the middle of the third book, reach this far out of curiosity since i din't understand the reviews. It has m/m, ok, but who with who? Well now i know why it felt unclear, is like all of than even the twins have some sort o sexual thing that you just don't know, never to be denied or confirm.
So it's full of this moments like: "Are they together? Was this sexual? Are they into each other? Did i interrupt something? Tell me duke, do you have a romance with your cat?" LOL... this Alice doesn't know what to think about what her men are up to behind her back. Over all it just felt like dishonesty from her guys and from the author, i mean whatever you choose to write about, embrace.
After a moment the series is just boring. The romance theme takes over the whole series and every time is like something is happening but not really.
