Zoom off into space for an adventure where YOU CHOOSE what happens next. Which alien would you most like to be friends with? And what fantastically freaky food will you decide to munch for lunch? The possibilities are infinite in this mesmerising creative toolkit which will inspire children from 3 up to make their own stories time and again - a spectacular sequel to the bestselling You Choose - it's out of this world!
Pippa Goodhart is the author of over a hundred children’s books, including the prize-winning picture book You Choose, and the Winnie the Witch series which she writes under the pen name of Laura Owen. She trained as a teacher and worked for many years in bookselling before becoming a mother and a writer.
The illustrations are bright and fun to look at and should hold a child’s attention unless they prove too busy and thus overwhelming. At the same time there is nothing about the images that is very alien. Earth animals (in funny combinations) and Earth food (in funny colors). There are aliens with more than 2 eyes or more than 4 limbs, but they are otherwise not terribly odd looking.
The premise is, look at all these things that are different here in Space or on this planet! What would you choose to do, eat, talk about first? It’s not terribly challenging, but very cute. For 3-6 year olds, I should think.
I’m so glad that Ricki told me to review this You Choose book with her! She received the first one, but I was booked at the time, but she said that I could not let this chance pass, and I am so glad! It is a choose your own adventure book for the picture book age. It really does build up the story-telling capacity because it gives a foundation and lets the reader build up from there. It is such a fun book that is different every time, so a reader is never done!
A very visually captivating book filled with dense, attractive, vibrantly-coloured illustrations that really immerse the reader in the environments being shown. I can definitely envision this being made into a video game of sorts, like maybe one of those "choose your own adventure" visual novels or something like that!
The intention of this book is to spur kids' imagination and think about what life would be like on a different planet, with different beings, food, environments, etc. Some things resemble those on earth while others look completely different. Each scene comes with a rhyming pair of phrases that prompt the reader to consider certain things (e.g. What would I say to the aliens? Who would I pick as a friend and why? Which foods would I try? Which mode of transport would I choose?).
Even though the primary audience is kids, adults will enjoy it too. Overall a delightful, ultra-immersive experience that was very pleasing to the senses.
I love this series. Kids can spend so long choosing things on the page and talking about them. You might even use this for a writing prompt. I personally enjoyed the realistic one more. You Choose
My 6 year old son is loving choose your own adventure books, especially the easy to read picture books. We loved the rhyming in this one. The illustrations are so fun and bright and there's so much to look at on each page. You can read this book over and over and each time have a new adventure. I think it's great!
This is a fun interactive book with big colorful pages filled with lots of pictures to interact with. There are plenty of aliens and space things to catch the eye. This is a good read together book as there are guiding questions for fun conversations of choices that the reader would make on each page. With each choice made, a story is being formed.
We love the original You Choose. I wasn't sure whether this one would be just as good, but we spent a long time reading it after having borrowed it from the library today. Lots of things to discover and talk about.
What a fun seek-and-find story with catchy rhymes and detailed illustrations that make this an excellent interactive read aloud for kids and adults alike.
These are so fun, Nick Sharratt is one of my all time fav illustrators dating back to Jaqueline Wilson books. I love these You Choose books and so does my 4 y/o
This book is really cute and really sparks the imaginations on every page. I love that you can read this book over and over and different things can happen depending on what you choose. I do wish it had more of a story-line in the book but it's all how you think of it. The illustrations in this book are so fun and colorful that really grabs your attention on every page. Mason really enjoyed reading this book with me before bed. This book would not make a good read-aloud book as you have to say which characters and such on every page. It works better reading it with one person. I recommend checking this out.
This is such a fun book and I totally wish it had been around when I was a kid. The text by Pippa Goodhart is open for adventure and play and the illustrations by Nick Sharratt are amazingly fun. There is so much to see and many adventures to have enjoying this book.
