Inspired by the biblical story of "David Among the Philistines"!
Fiona Parker travels to Colorado as a mail order bride, but her dreams of a happy marriage are soon shattered.
Her ‘fiancé’ is an abusive drunkard who imprisons her against her will, and she only escapes his clutches when the Cheyenne raid his ranch. The Cheyenne believe Fiona is good luck to them, and refuse to let her go. But when the Calvary comes to her rescue at last, Fiona finds herself at the mercy of the handsome captain who doesn’t believe a word of her story.
When the two of them ride back to the angry Cheyenne, can they avert disaster--or will Fiona lose the brave young man she’s only just realized she loves?
"Once upon a time..." ...my best childhood nights had started with this wonderful phrase!
Ever since I can remember, I loved a good story!
All started thanks to my beloved grandfather! He used to read to my sister and me, stories of mighty princes and horrifying dragons! Even now, sometimes I miss those cold winters in front of the fireplace in my hometown, Texas!
My best stories though were the ones from the Bible! Such is the spiritual connection that a cozy warm pass through my body every time I hear a biblical story!
My childhood memories were not all roses, but I always knew that the strongest shelter would be always there for me! It was Him!
Years passed by, and little-Chloe grown up reading all kind of stories! It was no surprise that I had this urge to write my own stories, and share them with the word!
If I have a God's purpose on Earth, I think it is to spread His love and wisdom, through my stories!
I was impressed with this book written by a new to me writer. Chloe Carley takes her readers back to the year 1877. I found the story to be captivating and action packed. I was drawn in from the time I read the first page and on through to the last page. The author has won this reader over with Boston Bride Salvation and I will be reading more of her books in the future. Fiona Parker seemed to be having a streak of bad luck in her life lately. First there was the fire where she lost everything she owned . Homeless and penniless she answered an add to be a mail order bride to a rancher in Indian Rock Colorado. Things were not the way she had been led to believe in her letters from the rancher. She had no money to leave and no place to go. Then things got real interesting as the Cheyenne Indians decided to attack the ranch because the owner refused to give them food and was mean to the braves that came for help. Fiona was kidnapped by the Indians who thought she was a war Spirit. This is just some of the things that made up this adventurous story. There's a lot more action and some romance too. You won't want to miss reading this book. All readers of historical romance will find this book to their liking. It's also Christian Fiction at its best. You won't be disappointed. I was given a complimentary ebook copy from the writer and publisher through Book Funnel. Thank you. A favorable review was not requested. All opinions expressed about this book are my own.
READ THIS STORY. (not yelling just imploring) you won't regret it as you will if you don't read it. Usually free books are just that free and not so good. I usually just skim one and if I like it I will read it.....and delete it. I delete most free books.
But don't make that mistake with this throughly delightfully book. I loved it from the first sentence to the last. It makes me want to read the rest of what Chloe writes!! which I will. definitely!!!!!
I wish I had more words to entice you to read this story for it for in my opinion it is the best bride story of the year!! I won't give away anything here you must discover it for yourself. I will tell you that you will need a box of tissues and a sense of humor for this book evokes ALL emotions.
This is not your typically mail order story, and was well written with strong characters. Fiona travels to Colorado as a mail order bride; only to arrive and find her fiancé was not what he had appeared to be in his letter. How she handles her situation along with her faith made for a good story. This was the first time I have read a story by Chloe and I hope it’s not the last.
What a refreshing story. The poor child had been tried again and again but her faith always lead her through. This story has a wonderful happy ending and makes you look closer into your ur own life and what choices we would have made in her place. Great read.
I really enjoyed this story. It is about a young lady who loses everything in a fire so she decides to become a mail order bride. When she meets her soon to be husband he is nothing like his letters made him out to be. She has second thoughts about the marriage but has no way to get out of it. I was surprised by the ending of the story. I liked that there were bible verses throughout the story. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
Beautifully written and has more depth than the usual mail order bride fare. Fiona Parker had been a Boston heiress then a fire destroyed her house and reduced her wealth into ashes. Awakening to the painful reality test of who your friends (except for the Almighty) really are after loosing your money/resources and experiencing the fact first hand, in desperation to get away from it all, she answered an advertisement for a mail order bride and corresponded with Clayton who claimed to be a lonely Christian widower rancher. And so starts Fiona's adventures into Indian Rock, Colorado. From what I can surmise, since Clayton is not really the Christian man he purported to be in his letters to Fiona ~ was Sophie's (Clayton's first wife) death a murder, a suicide or an accident? I think she died trying to get away from his perverted sadistic bedroom practices and death is a welcome escape. Thank you Ms. Carley for giving us a spunky and FAITH~full main character.
Fiona is darling and her adventures make the story delightful, until the end, when I feel it all wrapped up a snitch too quickly. I wanted to see one more amazing rescue before Jonas was almost fatally wounded. It would have fit the first half of the book much better. I think that a favourite aspect of this book is the way stories from the bible helped Fiona know how to address difficult situations.
Exciting story with Indian raids, kidnapping, fear, relief, hope and love. The underlying history of the West, during this period of Indian unrest, helps the reader relate to what eventually happens to Fiona. Ms. Carley has given us realistic characters and a believable storyline, well worth the read. I look forward to more books from this author in the future.
her mail order bride didnt work out as her husband is a brute. then the Indians attack and take her. she is rescued but she finally realise she was in love with one of the indians can she make it back to him. a beautiful love story
I thought this was an beautiful story about a young woman who overcame multiple challenges through her strong faith in God. I liked it very much and thought that as a first novel it was well done.!
I truly enjoyed this story. The characters all had great depth to them and some where easy to love while others, not so much. This is a very adventurous and quick moving story. It continually flowed from beginning to end never knowing what the ending well be. Many bible references and prayers.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly. According to the book this is the author's first book. It is definitely a great start. I thought the book was very well done. I enjoyed all of the characters especially Fiona. And I got a kick out of Will, the stable boy. I thought the storyline was excellent and well organized. I liked that at no time did it feel rushed and I thought it ended well. I like how the scriptures were woven into the story and how Fiona used the inspiration she gleaned from them to help her deal with the situations in which she found herself.
Short story, good storyline. Mail order bride finds that her groom to be is not all that he made himself out to be in his letters. Fiona isn't going to let anything get in the way of her faith in God not even a whole village of Cheyenne Indians that think that she is their good luck charm. Throw in a handsome Calvary man, you have a great story.
This story was about a mail order bride who answered a letter of a rich man who was a drunkard. When she got there she didn't know how to excape. The Cheyenne were coming to attack and she was kidnapped. This book was thrilling, clean and well written. I love the way the story was related to the Bible. Chloe Carly is using her God given talent and she will go far.
This book was the first of hopefully many more by author Chloe Carley. It was not your typical mail order bride story. It had much more depth and had me waiting and wondering what was going to happen next. I am looking forward to future books by author Chloe Carley.
A mail order bride with a twist. Fiona heads to Colorado for her marriage only to be abused by her drunken fiance. She is taken by the Cheyenne a a good luck charm until she is rescued by a captain. Twists and surprises in this delightful read. I read an advance copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.
For a first novel I thought this was quite well done. I just loved little Will and of course Fiona and Jonas. I found the story gripping and fascinating, although I have to admit that it felt a bit rushed towards the end. I would have liked there to have been more interactions between Jonas and Fiona before everything ended so abruptly, albeit happily.
On an very picky note - I found it strange and a bit annoying that with the opening diary entry, Fiona starts her sentences with ‘Am’ rather than ‘I am’ e.g. “Am now on the train... Am told... Am still a little nervous...” etc. Like I said, it is incredibly picky of me, but considering Fiona is supposedly from the elite of Boston and one would presume had been given a good education, I would have expected her to express herself well, even if it is only her own private musings. She speaks to the “savages” with more eloquence than she does to herself. Other than these two points (I acknowledge again, I am being finicky with the grammar) I really found this story interesting. From the history point of view - although sad since I don’t enjoy bloodshed (although this was thankfully not too gory) - it lent an authenticity to the era the story was set in and I suppose this made the story that much more gripping and believable, since events like these really did happen.
While I can’t put this story in the category of a “light, sweet read”, it did have me continually turning the pages to find out what happened next. I don’t think anyone who likes western novels will be disappointed to read it and I look forward to seeing more novels from this author.
Fiona was an heiress, lost everything decided to become a mail order bride. Clayton is nothing like what his letters led her to believe. He is a drunk. He is rich. he is not a christian, though. He is very possesive. Fiona turns to the Bible verses throughout the story to help her in her time of crisis. Her faith in God shows. It helps when the Cheyenne comes to burn the house own, Will and Fiona bet together horses, food, cigars and present them to their chief. They let Will go, but they kidnapped Fiona. The Cheyenne think she has special powers and is their "Good Luck Charm" The Calvary come and Captain Jonas try to rescue her. She knows she must escape.
She uses the Bible to her advantage.
There are twists and turns.
This is a clean Christian read Jonas likes her. She likes him.
