2.5 stars for interesting recipes

Another Instant Pot cookbook that I am glad I inspected through Kindle Unlimited before I bought it.

I liked a lot of the recipes, as they aren't ones you see everywhere. It didn't seem like this was written by an American author, so some ingredients will sound strange. In many cases there are American ingredients also mentioned as an 'or', so no foul there.

The cover is attractive and has a picture of an Instant Pot on it, so one must assume it was OK'd by the company, but who knows how thoroughly it was reviewed. The company makes pots, not recipes, so there's that...

There are no pictures in the Kindle Edition. That's a big deal to me and seems like there is a lack of financing by a publisher. I have had the best results over the years by using recipes and cookbooks from people that have developed and extensively tested their recipes.

Since I have a few years of experience in cooking in electric pressure cookers, I won't make the mistake of using the author's directions of quick release for most of her meat dishes. This is something a cook should never do with most meats (never, never, never!), excluding fish and seafoods. A minimum 10 minute natural release before fully releasing the steam that's left is important to avoid dried, tough meats that lose their juices when they boil out with the quickly released steam. Vegetables and other foods can be quick released with no adverse results.

I also had problems with her directions for making simple hard boiled eggs. Instead of cooking with a 5-5-5 or even 4-4-4 method (most people figure out what they like best, with 5-5-5 being the usual starting recommendation) - usually pressure cook for 5 minutes, 5 minutes of natural steam release, then plunging the eggs into cold water for cooling (also about 5 minutes) the author says to just pressure cook them at high pressure for 4 minutes, quick release the steam, then eat them!. I just don't feel assured she has actually ever cooked hard boiled eggs in an electric pressure cooker!

I think if a person gets this book through Kindle Unlimited, find the recipes you like, check them out carefully for timing, fluid requirements, and pressure release times, you could successfully have some interesting dishes.

Good But Needed to be Marketed as English not American

Very nice cookbook with many good recipes but this is not an American cookbook so many ingredients are listed that are unfamiliar and in containers that are also unfamiliar.

Instant pot for dorm use?

While the recipes seem expansive in scope, many are simply recipes for things that normally would be done in a fry pan and they have you use the sautee feature instead...
I cannot imagine trying to flip a pancake in the bottom of the pot, yet the pancakes are in this book.
If ALL you had for cooking was an Instant Pot, this would be good, but outside of a dorm, where would this ever be the case?

Good Start

Nice intro to Instant Pot cooking. I kind of wanted more recipes that used the pressure cooker aspect as many of the ones that used the sauté feature could more easily be done in a pan on the stove...maybe if I was in an efficiency and this was all I had...

Good beginners book!

Not overwhelming. Great for a beginners new to instance pots. A refresher if you have used a stove top pressure cooker, and need to learn the programming of your pot.
It's amazing all you can now make, from stew to cheesecake!
