The Kurtherian's which rule the Leath have made a fatal mistake.Their prime intelligence officer finds what they have done in his past.
Other people have made moves against the Queen Bitch's people, and she sends Baba Yaga after them.
Bethany Anne goes Ahead Full on taking out enemies of the Empire, while Ranger Tabitha helps uncover a Skaine effort and brings the Bitch's themselves to help clean up the mess.
Read the latest Bethany Anne adventure that can make you laugh out loud, shed a tear, and yell for the good guys as they fight evil in another galaxy.
What can I say? The Queen Bitch is back. In this episode we lost a few well loved characters in striving for peace with the Leath. They sacrificed themselves to save their friends and family. As you can imagine BA is pissed. She's escaped her bitches and wondered off alone in search of the Kurenthian's who subjugate planets playing God. She is out for revenge with a capital R. I now have to wait til Christmas eve for number 20. I am waiting with bated breath. Enjoy!
This was the best book of the series so far! Laughs, tears, a ton of kick-ass action and the usual adorable moments... And all getting closer to a very good balance! I needed this read today:)
It's frustrating to be sure you've missed salient points in the story because you haven't yet read some of the spin offs, particularly when those spin offs aren't available in audio and you're listening to the series.
Two more books to finish the main series. I'm waiting for the audio.
This series is going down faster than a drunken prom date.
What was the point with the scenes with Christina, Nathan, etc? it was gratuitous action with no real point. What was the point of freeing the planet with Tabatha and company? After they completed their bit, they were gone for the rest of the story; there was no tie-in.
Once again, NONE of the characters face anything resembling a worthy adversary and the only time someone is injured is if it's then used for a cheesy rallying cry like an 8o's actions movie.
What could have been an epic starship battle interwoven with a ground fight turned into quick surrender followed up with long time enemies suddenly working together and trusting one another. It's just silly.
And once again, Bethany Anne proves herself to be a tyrant at heart. She spies on her people. She invades of governments to "set them free" with no diplomacy for either the oppressor or the oppressed -- she just marches in like a jackboot thug and does what she pleases. For a character that goes on and on about justice, she doesn't honor the law except when it suits her. One of the characters (Stephen) even calls her on it, but doesn't really say all that much. Why do people follow her and all but worship her? She is NOT a good person.
I enjoy the world & find the series entertaining. However, I have an ongoing issue with how the author’s female characters are portrayed. TBH had this series not been free via KU I would’ve never made it to 19 books. I know I’m only a few books to the end but I can’t continue looking past the negative female stereotypes. It’s incredibly insulting.
I’m considering switching to The second dark ages in an effort to possibly prevent the author from killing my overall enjoyment of the multiverse series arc. Perhaps his misogyny will not be as prevalent when the story has a male MC. I want to read Bethany Anne’s & Micheal’s reunion but maybe calling it quits is the better choice?
19 books and still going strong. The books in The Kurtherian Gambit series manages to stay reasonable true to their core story, more of the same if you want, and yet continue to be enjoyable reading (as in not getting boring) even after 19 books.
As the book blurb states Bethany continues to take care of the Kurtherian problem one ass-kicking at the time. This time it is the Leath that finds themselves being the target of Bethany’s tender care.
As I wrote in a previous review I was a bit doubtful when this Baba Yaga was introduced, and I still find the name a bit silly, but it really was such a great idea. In a lot of books the hero or heroine evolves getting more and more promotions and responsibility which, often, makes the character less and less interesting since he is further and further removed from the actual action. With Baba Yaga Bethany can both have the cake and eat it.
That doesn’t mean that she does everything of course and both our lovable ranger Tabitha as well as her bitches get their share of the ass-kicking. I really like all the characters in these books. Their bantering, the action and their way of making the bad guys realize just how much they fucked up. The latter is usually the last insight the bad guys ever have though.
The end of the book is … interesting. With that kind of ending the next book could take us in just about any direction. Looking forward to more ass-kicking and creative cussing in the Kurtherian universe.
My goodness ... BA lets her other self out again! Wow, I always look forward to the new releases. This installment took me by surprise. I think I read it in six hours. Dinner? No, Sleep? No, Work? Called in for an insanity day, I think you get my enthusiasm. I loved it so much I made my cat read with me. LOL. I am sad that this part of the series is going to come to an end. But Hey, there will be a whole new branch out to look forward to ... Thank You Michael Anderle!! You are a force all your own, and those lucky enough to write with you are mystical all on their own. I have told everyone I know that for Christmas this year, they can buy me the whole BA series (so I can re-read at my own leisure). I don't do that very often, so you know it must be special. Thank You!
since I picked up the first KG book. This series has become one of my all-time favorites and I'll probably be rereading them several times over the course of my lifetime. BA, John, Lance, Nathan, Peter, Tabitha et al have found a place in my heart and mind. As such, when a beloved character dies, I find the tears flowing without control. In short, although fiction; if you subscribe to the multiverse theory, they are real and out there somewhere and I NEED to join up. Until then, I'll just keep doing the best that I can and continue to read about the people whom I love. Thank you Michael.
Wowzer! Of course it's a good five star rating. I've been going on strong reading each and everyone of these books in the series and have loved each one tremendously...okay maybe some a little less than others but there's still love there. All I can honestly say is that this series is well worth your time, you'll love BA as much as I do, maybe even more, and even though we are near the end, you will be anxious to see what happens next. You rock Mr. Anderle! Christmas cannot come soon enough.
First of all I did enjoy this book, but I gave a three star rating because it was rushed, not enough was paid attention to the bitches and Tabatha subduing a planet. Because there is some situations in the book that I thought deserved more storyline such as the death of someone very important. I felt that part was very rushed and run through very quickly. There was more solemnity in the last book then and this one for the characters who lost their lives in the defense of Bethany and her people. Another reviewer said that he felt the author had too many irons in the fire this is true because it shows up in this book. To the author, you were master with Bethany Ann but you’ve become a jack of all trades‘ and lost your mastery of Bethany Ann. If you have any business people worth their weight in salt they will tell you do not forget your core competencies, the people who loved your original storyline with Bethany Ann and her crew. I read your author notes and if you wrote 50,000 words while flying, you should’ve wrote 60,000 words to incorporate other aspects of the book. I admit I am one of the torch and pitchfork crowd, but we were the ones that you built your success on. I feel that you have forgotten those of us who originally sponsored and fell in love with you and BethanyAnn. I hope you don’t become like those brick and mortar stores who spread so wide that they collapse from their own weight. We want more stories with Bethany ann, Tabatha, Stephen, the bitches, and anything else relating to kGU. I know this review may be rambling a bit, but I love the Siri so much I do not want to see it fail, your beta readers should’ve informed you of the flaws that word notice in the book and you should’ve corrected them. Most of all I want to say even though this book had shortcomings I am I’m eagerly await Ing the next book, where I hope some of the issues will be addressed. If you as the author have to give us a 70,000 word book to make it better please do so. I have a lot of other issues but they will be addressed in future reviews. But I suggest that anybody who likes humor character development and doesn’t my cursing read this book.
I read this one in one sitting with a couple of breaks. I just couldn't put it down . This series has me in deep and I absolutely love it. I was introduced to the series by a friend and I was drawn from book 1... Great job Michael Anderle.
An okay read. Again feels a bit like a holding book. Giving you a taste but drawing it painfully out. Come on we know the final outcome is around the corner. So why drag it out. Lessons should be taken from author's like David Eddings who used the timing to perfection. The timing here is wrong and I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of readers drop out. Yes the battles were good, the losses felt but it does feel a bit 'same old, same old'. The only reason I'm still reading is tenacity and I want to know if Michael had been in the Etheric dimension all this time
Baba Yaga and the bitchs roll! That is steamroll over a criminal organization that has ruthlessly and sadisticly taken over an isolated planet. Ranger 2 and the Tontos ride again! Roughshod that is over the bad guys. Bethany Anne is troubled by all the blood that has been spilled and is still being spilled. But she is even more troubled by the enslavement and bullying of people. To that end she unleashes Baba Yaga to liberate the Leath and kill the rouge Kurtherian clan controlling them. Bethany Anne is one of my favorite characters. I love the snarky dialogue and humor. The characters are well written and developed and the morals and values of the story are great. I am looking forward to the next book "Capture Death".
This was a rather gritty story, but who doesn't love Baba Yaga. I can almost feel sorry for the Seven... almost because the only thing worse than having Empress Bethany Anne angry at you is having her Avatar hot on your tail. Loved it as I have loved all 18 others before this one. So liking forward to reading the next book, we will definitely be seeing more Baba Yaga.
Daaaaaaang Baba Yaga and Bethany Anne are the drivers of this rollercoaster thank u Michael for writing these stories that keep me riveted and my family know when not to bother Mom reading her books... can’t wait to read how she rips those pisses of crap apart and delivers justice... u sir have a twisted mind but what does that say of me that loves ur stories keep it up and I will continue reading... like Bethany Anne and her cake I MUST HAVE MY STORIES!
As Usual Mike Did it again, wrote another book that You won't want to put down if you've been following the Series. They books have just gotten Better and Better writing wise. I was Disappointed with the Cover of this one, Baba Yaga\QB\Bethany Anne looked Frumpy and like she had gained 40lbs. But don't worry, I'll still read the Series because I'm hooked and don't need to get attracted by the Cover.
A good continuation of the story, although at 19 books plus all the side stories I'm going to be excited to see everything wrap up in the end. Michael's set a lot of wheels in motion that need conclusions and wrapping up. Overall this is still a fun series to read, and I'm happy and excited to see the success of the numerous authors who contribute to the KGU. Having dates for the last few books also helps with the anticipation! Thanks for everything Michael.
Most long run series either use a formula that gets boring or forget who their characters are and have them do things against their nature. Not so, this series. It moves ever forward and ever up, staying true to it's vast cast. While each book can stand alone, its more fun all together. I'm sorry I tore thew it so fast, I have to wait for the next one to come out.
I have been a dedicated urban fantasy and science fiction reader for decades. I haven't felt a pull to a series as strongly as The Kurtherian Gambit series has. Bethany Anne is a vampire after my own heart. Strong, compassionate, dedicated to saving lives while stopping a powerful evil from spreading further, and that didn't even begin to describe this wonderful woman. This series is worth every dime.
Come on Master Mike, Yoda extraordinaire!!! February!! Ugh I guess I will have read the rest of the other KGU offshoots...granted I do not have many left to read. I will consider Capture Death as a birthday present in Feb!! But I have to warn you I may cheat on you if I am desperate for something to read but I promise I will always come back to you for more!!!
Death doesn't take a holiday, but BA needs to. It's time. The war has dragged on and has reached it's culmination. The empire is set to deliver the final blow. But will it end if the evil behind the war slips away? And the cost is great. Many who began this journey with BA may not make it to the end. And as always, death weighs heavily on BA's shoulders. But Baba Yaga can carry the load for her.BA sets Baba one more task. To the knife!
I love this series so much that I keep re-reading it. I can't stop reading this compelling series. Every time a new book in the series comes out I read the series again through to the newest book. It keeps me awake nights reading these books. Thank you Mr. Anderle for writing book crack!
This is one of my favorite series of all time. So many things about the story bring smiles and all sorts of other reactions. Not just the story though, but the many stories that have sprung from such a simple idea. It will be sad when this story finishes, but, this author has not disappointed so far. Here is to hoping that BA stays true to herself.
This is the third time I have read it so that should hopefully give you some idea of what I think 😂, I hate spoilers and know there are enough out there already. I have read the entire series back to back yes all 21 books without getting bored it's so hard to write this without channelling my inner BA 😊
Don't get me wrong, as this book was just as awesome as all the previous books in the series have been - but one of my fave characters was killed off!
What made this even sadder, was the fact that I had read Sarah Weir's Diplomatic Agent just before this, and the killed off character was a love interest in it.
So, the character is not only dead but, hypothetically, leaves behind someone devastated by it!
Yes, I know none of it's real, but when authors write characters that immediately become a good part of the story, what can they expect, than to have their readers saddened by them being killed off!
All this to say, of course, is that, once again, Michael Anderle has written yet another kick-butt, awesome, book, and I'm not wasting a minute after writing this review, in reading the next book in the series: Capture Death - 'cos I really want to know what happens next!
Michael, if you ever read this, thank you for bringing these fantastic books out into the world - even if my housework does suffer drastically because of them! Lol
This is the second time this series has disappointed me. I’m finally getting the opportunity to read the series and have also been reading the parallel reads written by other authors and trying as hard as possible to go in chronological order within this vast multi author universe. Why would the author allow someone else to give one of his secondary characters a happy ever after and then take the next book in the original series to kill that secondary character off. A character who has been with BA since book two or three. Ugh. It makes no sense, added nothing to this story and completely blew a hole in the HEA he allowed his author pal to give said character in the “Empress’s Spy” series. And the funeral scene did not give love to this character who has played a role since the beginning. So that was a very crummy thing to read. Additionally it felt like there were two stories happening and neither of them got the attention and love they deserve. This series has been around several years now, so I doubt this review will mean much. But, I’ll share my thoughts anyway.
As I finish book 19, I’m looking back on my adventures with Bethany Anne and crew. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried and I’ve thrown my Kindle down not wanting to read what happens next.
From the first book, the Kurtherian Gambit hooked me. It’s not that the books end on a cliff hanger, it’s that I’m excited to read the next one. My life is finding time to read about Bethany Anne. I read before breakfast, the middle of the day, on car trips and into the wee hours of the morning. The other day I was reading while waiting at my dentist’s office and came to a sad part. I met with the dentist with tears in my eyes.
Mr. Anderle, Michael, I don’t know whether to hug you or cuss you. Your books tell such wonderful stories. Thank you!
PS Once I finish the Gambit series, I’m going to take a break from reading your books so I can get my real life back in order.🙃
