. In this humorous and cozy mystery series, the reader is swept away into an escape of exploration and adventure of well-written plots, in a magical town called Spellbound. Here you find a multitude of engaging characters - paranormal residents and magical creatures cohabitating in one realm. Emma, the heroine, is a witch of sorts and the town sleuth.
What will happen next? You will just never know unless you crack open the book and start reading.
Each book in the series adds new characters, some interesting and others not so much. All seem to get along with Emma. Emma is finally planning her wedding with the man of her dreams, an angel named Daniel. But she is also involved in trying to break the curse on the town, retrieve her biological mother's letters, and now she has a new client to defend. Can she actually accomplish all her goals in one book? There are many twists and turns before the book concludes.
This book can stand on its own, but is much easier to understand if you read the series in order, it was a clean presentation, and a mystery was solved --
If you have been reading this series, quickly download this book because things are heating up with the backstory and a surprise ending will have you on the edge of your seat. In fact there are several surprises in this book, one after the other. If you haven't been reading, get started and don't let the slower beginning put you off because this is definitely getting interesting. Now all I need is the next book. Coming soon, Ms. Chase says. Uh, how soon is soon?
I find that I cannot put down these books until the very last word is read. Appropriate for teenage girls and more mature women alike because deep down we all want nothing more then to be a Witch who finds true love in a quaint little paranormal town where unicorn horns exist and true friends help one another at all costs. I hope there is always another book to pickup where the last left off.
First thing this morning I decided to head back to Spellbound, where Emma new world is filled with paranormal's and she a newbie witch.
After popping the question at the same time, Spellbound has a wedding to prepare for. However, this time Emma and Daniel are planning on taking back the lake and completing their vows.
While planning the wedding of Spellbound history Emma is bound and determined to protect her client accused of trespassing, though it was an innocent accident. But charges are brought due to the stereotypes. Can Emma get the supposed victim's to change centuries worth of thinking?
To add to Emma's growing list before the wedding a pixie dies due to poisoning. Will Emma be able to track down how and who poisoned the pixie before she finds herself poisoned?
Not to mention the coven and Emma are still working on the found spell that may break the curse on Spellbound. Will Emma and the coven come up with a plan that is for the good of Spellbound citizens? Has Emma discovered the identity of who cursed Spellbound?
Hemlocked and loaded is the ninth book in the Spellbound series. It's a full length novel that has light drama, humorous moments, lots of magical paranormals, and a bit of love.
Books in the series include: Curse the Day, Book 1 Doom and Broom, Book 2 Spell's Bells, Book 3 Lucky Charm, Book 4 Better Than Hex, Book 5 Cast Away, Book 6 A Touch of Magic, Book 7 A Drop in the Potion, Book 8 Hemlocked and Loaded, Book 9
Next in the Spellbound series: All Spells Break Loose, Book 10
Emma is extremely busy with wedding plans, a trespassing case to defend and a murder to solve. The murder mystery takes more of a backseat in this book. This book spends a lot of time on wedding plans – wht needs to be done, what her friends are doing for her, inviting everyone, but it’s not overpoweringly about the wedding. There is enough other things to keep it interesting. The coven is still working on the rest of the curse but that is not a highlight of this book. Emma is still working on relocating the letters from her mother from the human world to Spellbound and working on her magic This is again a quick, easy reading, humourous book but it has a bit of a cliffhanger so I’ll be starting the next one quickly.
Wow that ending! The cliff hanger on this one! I need to read the next one now! I just love this series so much. If you love witchy cozy mysteries, this is the series for you!
I have grown to really appreciate Emma, following her progress as she becomes more aware of her role in the paranormal world of spellbound. My only bug bear is the books are too short, I’m glad I have kindle unlimited as I’m sure it would have been very costly to read this series without it. You need to start at book 1 in order to fully understand what’s going on whilst there are parts which the author explains from the previous book, it’s a series that grows on you with each book. I have got invested in Emma and her search for happiness in a new world whilst trying to undo the curse on spellbound.
Wedding, trespassers, killers and the curse fill her days
Awesome. A wedding to organise, the search for the curse breaking spell continuing, a new case to defend and now a dead body. Will she be able to cope with it all? The storyline is mostly about the town, it's inhabitants and the curse. The mystery is just a small part of it. Having said that I love this series and the development of the girls in her class. The characters are blossoming as the series continues and the search for the curse breaking spell is the main line throughout the series. Recommended
Ok while I enjoyed the story it fit in well with the series as a whole I found some spelling and grammar mistakes in this one that distracted from the story and some of the paragraphs felt choppy to read, so it was slightly disappointing than other books by this author.
Not the best in the series in my opinion. Grammar errors found in several places that were disappointing as they were not in the other books. I am not sure why authors who write do not understand simple rules when it comes to correct pronoun usage. Never use the pronoun “I” in the predicate of a sentence. If a writer is not sure whether to use the pronoun “ I” or “me,” they simply need to remove the other person. In chapter 13 or so, there was a sentence about making an “… appointment for Daniel and I…”. This is a prime example of taking out the other person to see which pronoun is correct. “an appointment for Daniel and me…” There were a few other places where something similarly was written where the author use the wrong pronoun which should have be “…Daniel and me.” Tomlin was a liar and a dangerous werelynx. It was sad how he tried to poison Emma. Althea and her head of snakes still creeped me out, but they did prove to be helpful. I do continue to enjoy Agnes’s antics at the Spellbound CareHome. I also found Gareth to be quite the character as he continued to work on his manifestation and his commentary of negativity towards Emma. I liked that Begonia and Dem have finally gotten together. At first, I did not care for Beatrice and her jealousy, but she did finally own up to what she had done to Emma. Now, we are searching to see if perhaps Emma’s biological mother was responsible for the curse on Spellbound. What darkness lays ahead has me ready to delve into the next book of the series.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
Hmmm, this 9th book was interesting. The mystery itself was solvable immediately, but the sudden turnaround of several of Emma’s friends pointing out that perhaps Daniel was not the man for her piqued my interest. Now, I know this is a romance series and the chance of Daniel and Emma not having a happy ever after at this point is about 2%, but imagine how cool it would be to turn the trope on its head like that. I’d love it if Daniel ended up somehow responsible for the curse! Ah, I know that even thinking that way is setting myself up for disappointment in the next and final book, but a girl can dream. And anyway, if there’s not an end point to it, having those doubts raised will just end up being bad writing. *nods*
Emma now is wearing a beautiful engagement ring. She picks the remedial class girls as her bridesmaids as she works on getting things ready for her marriage to Daniel.
Her case for this volume deals with a person accused of trespassing on another's property although there seem to be no keep out signs and no way of telling exactly where the person's property ended.
She also works on manifesting her mother's letters from the other reality she's managed to tie into.
Not everyone wishes her well as she finds out. If that wasn't enough her mother's letters reveal a couple MAJOR things that she didn't expect.
A sort of really wonderful and really terrible things going on in the book. It's well done and really gets the reader wondering what is going to happen next.
Emma Hart is very very busy in this one. As usual, the first thing is that she has a new mystery. A bachelor were-lynk who has been left by his girlfriend is caught trepassing on some neighbors property and has been turned over to the police. So there is a mystery that she needs to solve which gets a bit convoluted.
But as usual, she has other things going on. First she has her wedding to plan for and also the plans to get the curse removed from the town. Both are different tasks which take an enormous amount of time.
However, she finds her way, as usual. Maybe this time, she has a bit more difficulty, but she does resolve it by the end of the book.
Oh, and we get to learn more about gorgons as well. As usual an interesting romp though the magical world.
Emma Hart is a bit of a busybody. As an attorney, I’m sure she knows the term “officious intermeddler.” However, you can’t have a cozy mystery without a busybody, plus, she manages to stay likable. I particularly like how Chase has tied her Spellslingers Academy series in. I won’t say how, because I don’t want to ruin the surprise. As always, a great mystery that kept me guessing until the end. The author either got one point wrong, or another cozy mystery writer did in her books. In another series, caffeine is stated to be an antidote for hemlock. An absolute must read!
With a new client being accused of trespassing, a murder reminiscent of Socrates, and a wedding to plan, Emma is a busy girl! In fact, she has a lot going on- showers, parties, investigating her mother…
A lot going on in this one, and again the subplot takes centre stage as Emma and Daniel’s wedding draws closer. Some intriguing new information about the curse on the town comes to light too.
An enjoyable addition to this paranormal mystery/urban fantasy series, this one has everything set up for the final showdown! Recommended for paranormal cosy mystery lovers and urban fantasy fans.
Emma Hart is finally getting to plan her wedding but not just any wedding. Her wedding to an angel. She is also trying to retrieve letters, written by her biological mother, but she is having issues with it.
Emma ends up with a new case, which seems open and shut, which is anything but easy.
Cannot wait for the next book because I cannot wait to find out how the wedding turns out and also how the Coven is doing on trying to lift the curse.
"Hemlocked and Loaded" is the ninth book in the Spellbound Paranormal Cozy Mystery series by Annabel Chase. Emma is on cloud nine as she adjusts to having a nice big rock on her finger. She's excited to include everyone in on her big day and makes plans to do just that. Meanwhile, she's defending a werelynx against a trespassing charge. And then eventually she gets involved with trying to solve another murder mystery. Overall, I enjoyed reading this novel. As time progresses we're learning more and more about Emma's past. I can't wait to find out what happens next!
As Emma and Daniel plan their big day and try to find ways to include all the people who mean the most to them Emma's still working as usual. Defending Tomlin from a trespassing charge, finding the murderer of Seamus, practicing her sorcery skills and working on the curse.
There's revelations to come when she finally manages to bring her mother's letters to Spellbound.. what is the Warden of the West? and could Emma's bio father be a danger to her?
Annabel Chase is an amazing writer and this cozey mystery series attests to her abilities the array of characters that draw you into this series are bold, compassionate, fun loving and colorful and yet lease we forget it wouldn't be a mystery murder without the schemers as well bringing forward intrigue that entices you further along with the fabulous plot keeping you turning page after page until you reach its unexpected and climatic conclusion. Acquire " Hemlock and Loaded " today so you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. Kat
Still a fantastic series, but sometimes it seems we get more involved with Emma's life (which after all she is the main character and she is finally engaged!) but it takes a bit away from the mystery part of it. Still a good read, but it feels that she has too much on her plate and her focus is not always where it should be. I find it odd that they do not include the remedial witches in the trying to break the curse, especially Emma who was key in getting the golden horn.
I love my visits to Spellbound! Emma, Daniel, and their friends are so charming, and they are such a tight-knit bunch. Emma's big, trusting heart can get her into trouble, but she never quits! She has a wedding to plan, a town's future in her hands, a not-quite-guilty client to rescue...and now, disquieting information about her birth mother! There's always so much going on in Spellbound!
I enjoy Emma. She's a good person and smart, but not condescending. I'm glad she and Daniel are together....however, I had to skim over some of that because it was just too sticky sweet for me. The mystery was good and there are some serious revelations in the end.
I got the first book in the series on kindle unlimited just to check it out and I'm happy that I did I'm now on the ninth book in the series about to read the last and I can't wait to find out what happens. If you like cozy books this is the series for you, I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
This was so good. The end I g has me chomping at the bit for the next. I wish the murderer reveal (which I saw coming even though I don't read to solve) at the ending had gone different but minor detail as my dad says. So gotta get to downloading the next. Ciao.
