Free-spirited ballet dancer Quinn is sure he made a terrible mistake by agreeing to be Duke’s roommate. The big cop is the most uptight person Quinn’s ever met, and both men begin driving each other crazy from day one.
Before long though, an undeniable spark of attraction ignites between them. But do opposites really attract? Or will their differences prove to be more than either of them can handle?
This gay romance is the fifteenth book in Alexa Land’s best-selling Firsts and Forever Series, but each novel is written to stand alone, so jump in anywhere. Note: contains adult language and graphic sex and is only intended for adults.
I am a big fan of this series. Whenever I feel a bit down and in need of a laugh, reading a book from this series, helps to make me feel better.
I am gonna be honest here, and say that this series is also a bit ridiculous and quite OTT at times, but sometimes....that is exactly what I need !! I have come to love Nana and her crazy antics :P
Now these books are all stand alone stories, but... all characters have recurring roles. This might get a bit confusing, if you jump in somewhere in the middle. I myself didn't mind being a bit confused, so I jumped in with my favorite book of the series "Sky Blue". This is the 6th book in the series and I had no problems following the storyline. Of course after finishing it, I went back and read book 1-5 ;) So I guess it all depends on the person and their level of "reading ODC "
Anyways....I was still halfway through the previous book, when I read my GR friend Line's review. She also informed me, that Quinn had become one her favorite characters in the series and he was just as awesome as Skye....
So I just had to push all books I was reading aside... finish "All I ever Wanted" and read this one... Them's the rules !!
She was right though.... Quinn was pretty freaking amazing !! He was so sweet and crazy and a mess...and damn did he make me laugh. He was the complete opposite of Duke, who's big quiet, shy.
Quinn's a ballet dancer, working as a go-go dancer, Duke is a cop. Quinn is used to going out, having fun and enjoying some sexy times...Duke is a virgin.
These two are nothing alike....yet they fit together perfectly...
I really enjoyed this story. It was sweet and sexy and so much fun...though there were some sad times as well.
But don't worry about the sad parts....cause you know what makes everything better ??
Edible Glitter !!!!!!!!!!!!
At least that's what Quinn thinks and I have to say, that I kind of agree with him here....Glitter rocks !!
So..all in all, another great addition to this awesome series, and I hope Alexa will write many many more ;)
Let me get this out of the way first: I now know why I sometimes have issues with Alexa Land's writing!
It's this: "I exclaimed" "I mumbled" "I murmured" "I said"
She uses these descriptions, almost every time someone 'says' something, and it becomes very 'mechanical' for me. However once I identified that that was my issue, I could ignore all the 'remarks'; enhancing my 'reading-enjoyment' immensely. And I really, really did enjoy this. Sometimes characters are different when they finally get to tell their own story, but Quinn managed to be JUST as crazy as he was in All I Ever Wanted, without it being too much.
And now for the 'gushing-part': SO Quinn... Quinn, Quinn, Quinn. I have to say, that I could not WAIT for your story, after meeting you in Cole and River's book. My dog dude, you were insane, in the BEST possible way. And I think that you are, quite possibly, my favourite character of this series (along with Skye!) Quinn had me laughing like a loon, and I could seriously see the things happening to him, as real-life events. I also loved his story, his family AND his self-awareness in regards to his limitations. He definitely was a 'loveable disaster', with a GIANT heart and lots and lots of noble intentions.
Duke was infinitely more uptight, but I equally loved HIS journey and HIS heart. I did wish for a bigger confrontation with his disgusting parents though, which I thought would have given Duke (and me) some much-needed closure.
But this was the love-story of Quke *heh heh heh*, and how they navigated their (outwardly) differences, in this really FUN romance. Yeah, this will definitely be read again and again.
I was really looking forward to Quinn’s book since I met him in the previous book. I do have to say he was a little less hyper and crazy in this book and I was a bit disappointed about that.
In the previous book he was unapologetically weird and crazy, here he was still crazy, but kept apologizing to Duke for the weird stuff and feeling guilty about it. I liked Quinn a bit more when he was a bit oblivious to what his friends might say about his outfit/wall painting abilities/fascination with glitter/overall weirdness.
Quinn doesn’t have a place to live when his roommate River marries the love of his life, Cole. Since Cole’s roommate now also needs someone to live with, Quinn moves in with Duke. Super serious, virgin, Duke.
Of course Quinn really knows how to spice things up for Duke. And even though Duke asks Quinn to leave after two days and a ruined house, Quinn ends up staying longer than expected and the two are an unexpectedly good fit. So when Duke asks Quinn out, Quinn says yes. Of course Quinn expects Duke to tire of him quite soon…
I love this series. These books are like a hug, cookies, tea, a warm fire and a hot bath all rolled into one. I do have to say that I liked this just a tiny bit less than the previous book, but that’s because I was missing some more action with Nana and the clan. There’s one silly parade, but that was it. I love Nana and all her shenanigans, but she wasn’t all that present here.
But it was still a fun read. Even though the end was waaaaaaaay too OTT. I loved the Elvis wedding though, that was awesome.
**** Awesome addition to the series !**** Quirky, sassy banter, big laughs and some tears, make this a magnificent story of two opposites who find common ground ! Quinn and Duke. Quinn, 25, a ballet dancer/go-go boy is an adorable mess. He was adopted by Japanese parents and has strived to make them proud, but manages to cause issues wherever he goes. Duke, 28, is a 6'8" solid muscled cop, and is staid and quiet, until Quinn shakes up his domain by becoming his roommate.
Did I mention Quinn likes glitter ?
The mishaps that begin are making Duke think he made a mistake letting Quinn move in, but they work it out. Duke bakes to relax and cookies are his specialty. Quinn shakes up his thinking on owning his own business. They each learn more about the other, and manage to become friends, that leads to more. Duke, being an anal sex virgin is in no hurry to go that far yet, so they get their sexy times other ways.
They meet Duke's crappy folks, and Quinn's amazing adoptive parents who are both extremely successful. Of course we see the main gang of nutty people at Nana's, and she holds a crazy parade to advertise the LGBT fund raiser and the new ballet troupe's first production. Meanwhile, Quinn and Duke are slowly working on themselves and begin to fall for each other. Halloween birthdays !
We see their unusual dates bring them closer, and Duke opening up to be more fun.
He expresses what he'd like to accomplish, but still needs the security of his job. Quinn opens up as to why he turned down the huge ballet company, and finally gets through to his Dad why he turned it down.
Marvelous guys, terrific, deep and thoughtful tale, plus a fast paced plot that will embrace you. Wonderfully written by the great Alexa Land. I have read EVERY book in the series and I just want more. Highly recommended. ENJOY !
What an enormous and eclectic menagerie of characters Land has created. I grew to love Quinn's absolute chaotic nature, mostly because they led to many hilarious moments. I loved Duke's strength, kindness, and sheer patience with Quinn (and he's a virgin!). They're complete opposites who perfectly balance each other. As always Nana Dombruso makes a couple of appearances and is as eccentric as ever. This is a fun read series.
Single POV, contemporary, opposites attract romance with a lot of humor and a very happy ending.
Quinn the walking disaster has moved in with Duke the anal-retentive man mountain and sparks fly. Actually a lot of other stuff flies before Duke realizes Quinn can teach him to relax and have some fun. A whole lot of happenings in this story and it’s a long one. Parents, both fabulous and crapulous, assorted wildlife, a little Nana and a sprinkling of old and new characters are entertaining as only Alexa Land can make them. Also ballet and cookies! I think the series is getting close to winding down but there are still a few more more couples to match up. Fun and squishy and adorable all the way through this one.
Starting a new Alexa Land book is like meeting up with old friends. Never fear, this one can be read as a standalone, though characters from prior books make plenty of appearances.
Both men need someone to take a chance on them. Duke, the uptight cop and Quinn the lovable mess. They couldn’t be more opposite on the outside, but beneath the surface they have more in common than you would think.
If you adored Quinn as much as I did when he was introduced as River’s outrageous and lovable roommate in the last book, All I Ever Wanted, you will love him here because that’s just who he is. He works as a go-go boy at night, but he’s a classically trained ballet dancer and is the lead in Dare’s new dance troupe. He is a sweetheart and just wants to be happy, living each day to its fullest. He also wants everyone around him to be happy. Of course Quinn being happy often results in a mess of epic proportions, but everything he does is done with all his heart.
The Duke we’ve met before as Cole’s roommate and Finn’s partner on the job is pretty much the anti-Quinn. He is big and quiet and a bit of stick in the mud. Even Quinn can’t understand what would possess Duke to allow him to move into his pristine home. It turns out Duke is also pretty insecure and worries about everything. He didn’t grow up in a warm happy household and his dating life has been nothing but a disaster, something he blames himself for.
I truly loved these two together and the way they progressed from strangers to friends to lovers. As much of a handful as Quinn is, he brings out something in Duke that no one has before. Duke’s emotional walls are pretty high but Quinn’s light is infectious and Duke soon succumbs. Seriously, who could resist a guy who has a moving box labeled “happy stuff”. Their romance is slow and sweet. Duke gives Quinn the most perfect, swoon-worthy first date imaginable and they were destined to fall in love from that moment on.
Since the two are roommates, they bond over everyday things. Baking cookies, watching TV, talking about work. Soon they are sharing their families and their pasts, both of which have some horrible moments that left them a bit scarred. Just as the two men are different, so are their families. I guarantee you’ll love one and hate the other. Duke becomes an unconditional support for Quinn while Quinn helps Duke see that he needs to let go of some things and start living the life he wants for himself, not what others have thrust upon him. Both men experience plenty of firsts here and I was happy to be along for the ride.
This wouldn’t be a Firsts and Forever book without appearances from Nana and the gang. Nana is gearing up for a fundraiser for her LGBTQ shelter and concocts the perfect way to make money and the perfect way to get attention for both that and Dare’s troupe’s first performance. That can only be topped by a Halloween weekend in Las Vegas, sexy costumes included. There is also time spent with the younger men in the series, especially Darwin and Elijah, who quickly works his way into Quinn’s heart (I cannot wait for an Elijah story – that boy deserves a lot of happy).
As usual you’ll run through a gamut of emotions with tears (both happy and sad) and uncontrollable bursts of laughter. The ending provides the guys with a Christmas miracle and drops a surprise about the next couple up for their HEA. If you’re looking for a light-hearted romance that will leave you with a huge smile, I highly recommend this one.
This book made me happier than any book for a long time. I snort laughed my way through it. It is way, way silly but I loved every moment of the mad capped romp.
In this opposites attract roommate romance, we have the very talented accident prone Quinn and the uptight cop Duke who bakes and it turns out has a huge crush on Quinn.
And go! It is nuts and fast paced with a great cast and so fun plot.
The romance is really sweet and hot and it made me smile. If you want some joy, try this on.
This book was so sweet and funny. Quinn is so adorably ridiculous! I loved him. And Duke was awesome too. This book made me laugh and go awww! So much cuteness. Low steam, but I loved it.
This is a fun, sad and funny read about a couple who came together when their prior roommates got married. This is their story of how they learned to come together since they seemed to be such opposite personalities. Throughout this read, prior families make an appearance and add to the fun. And my day is made when Nana shows up and shows out, lol. Enjoy I did.
I have loved all of the books in this series. That being said I have waited with great anticipation for Quinn and Dukes story because when Quinn was introduced in a previous story I fell in love. Alexa didn't disappoint with this amazing love story. When you first meet Duke and Quinn you think how in the hell can these two possibly work. Quinn is quirky spontaneous fun and disastrously accident prone. Duke is straight laced OCD clean and orderly. However they learn that on a more emotional level they are very much alike. Through this book you will laugh until you cry and cry with sadness rejoice with happiness and you may like me be in the kitchen making cookies wishing you had a Dragon cookie cutter and edible glitter.
OMG! I'm in love, love, love with Quinn and Duke was super sweet and a tiny bit awkward but that was totally part of his charm.
This story had exactly what I love in my romance.....great MCs that make me laugh, make me smile and fall in love with them and if one or both of them experience their first time that's a big bonus. I'm a bit sad Quinn and Duke's story came to an end, even if it was a beautiful happily ever after, because I'm going to miss these guys!
This is a wonderful installment to this series. The characters are intriguing and the interaction with previous characters is well done. There are very sweet moments and some real hilarity, good stuff.
I have so much love for this series. I am a huge fan of Alexa and just as big a fan of the Firsts and Forever series. It’s a series that is undoubtedly OTT and sometimes almost fairy-tale like but the characters are amazing and have come to feel like family so I always find myself eagerly awaiting the next instalment to see who will find their Prince Charming whilst surviving the Dombruso family craziness and Nana’s antics.
This is Quinn and Duke’s story – roommates with absolutely nothing in common or so it would seem. Duke is a Police Officer and lives a rigid life and is the most uptight person you are ever likely to meet. His life is dictated by his OCD and his job, his home and his personal life run to strict regimes. There is no fun or joy in Duke’s life. There is no colour or spontaneity – just dull, stark and organised – until he takes in a new roommate and Quinn really shakes him up.
Quinn is fun, colourful and full of positivity. He’s like a tidal wave sweeping through Duke’s life and home and initially it is touch and go as to whether they will even end up friends. Quinn was just what Duke’s sterile home needed but it takes a while for Duke to be convinced. They are different in every aspect of their lives but somehow, with a lot of talking and a bit of compromise, they turn out to be just what the other one needed. I enjoyed the slow burn and was glad they didn’t just roll into bed with each other. The pacing felt right and necessary as both men had very real issues that needed to be dealt with.
It was great to see the rest of the characters from previous books and of course Nana but really this story is all about Quinn and Duke and whether they are both brave enough to take a chance on each other.
Delightful and - quite literally - laugh out loud funny. I mean big belly laughs that last. Quinn Takahashi, a 25 year old, brilliant dancer, must be the reincarnation of Lucille Ball from the old “I Love Lucy” show: he’s a lovable mess.
The jams Quinn gets himself into start right away as he moves in as Duke Blumenthal’s roommate. A 6’8” cop, Duke could be nearly any twink’s fantasy guy except for his caution-filled, regimented life. But these guys were made for each other.
There are some serious childhood issues both men have to confront, and the book doesn’t shy away from the hard realities faced by LGBTQ kids.
While some of the dialogue can at times feel stilted and the author makes good use of a few well known tropes, there’s enough sparkle and undiluted fun in this inventive book to make it shine. I probably won’t read the entire series but I have gone through and picked out the books that seem most closely related to this one, and I already have the physical copies in my Amazon cart. This is good book for when you’re in-between more serious or complex books that demand careful attention. It’s simply delightful.
I so loved this couple! I think I missed a couple of intallments from this series but rest assured that this could be read as a standalone.
Quinn is such a character. He is quirky, has no filter and just full of life but deep inside, there’s an insecure little boy who doesn’t realize his worthy.
Then there’s Duke. All his life, he’s got to live in his dead brother’s shadow.
They both have heartbreaking backstory so, them getting together is destiny itself. It’s like they’re so opposite that they’re so perfect together. Odd but true.
My only criticism is the characters overload in the story. There’s just so many names in it and updates about the previous couples in the book. I mean, I loved reconnecting with them but it feels like there’s not enough space for Duke and Quinn here.
Overall though, it is still a wonderful addition to the series and Duke and Quinn are very easy to fall in love with.
Such an amazing story! Alexa did it again! Squirrel!! All the emotions in this book got me laughing histerically one second, then bursting in tears the other, then finding another happy place; the roller coaster of perfect emotions while reading a book, from my pov. I love all stories in the Firsts and Forever series, but this one squished its way inside my "happy box" and "amazingness box" and "definitely reread box" from the start. Now I have sooooo many characters I would love reading about in the series!!! Also, besides Nana, I want to be Quinn when I grow up! His and Duke's souls are amazing! Take a Chance on Me captivated me to the point where I was in the book, walking alongside the characters. I will recommend it to everyone!!!!
I liked this installment a lot. Quinn is both chaotic good and a serious dancer. Duke is open to goofiness. There was a bit of swallowing disbelief about how open Duke is to chaos and how he’s so nice despite being a cop with a lousy childhood but it’s not out of line with the series generally. It’s successful at being a fun, whimsical romance.
For a book not featuring animals, there sure are a lot of them popping up. Alpacas in top hats aren’t even the top animal scene.
I’ve read about half the series, out of order. While there are plenty of references to secondary characters I think this makes a pretty good stand alone read. (The prior book w/River & Cole was a character reminiscence fest.)
Another great add to the series. Quinn catch my heart from his first scenes in 'All I ever wanted #14' so getting to know more about him made me read fast! Duke I wasn't sure I would like, I was worried how this book would flow together and the couple connecting because I couldn't see it myself. Then I told myself 'Self, you know Alexa Land knows what she's doing you've loved every book' and of course she delivered. The more you read the more you see these two grow closer together, I fell in love with Duke! Both of these guys have a heartbreaking back story so to see them heal together was beautiful. Quinn was such a joy, I was cracking up with everything he was doing. Duke was too adorable with the cookies, you couldn't ask for a better couple. At the end (Epilogue specifically but don't want to give away spoilers) I was so happy with this little twist for them and can't wait to see what happens next.
I have really enjoyed this series and this book is probably in my top 5! I absolutely loved Quinn! So much fun, so sweet! And some of the situations he found himself in were hilarious. Duke...yeah he was a bit uptight at first but when he relaxed he became awesome. They were a perfect match. I loved everything about their trip to Vegas. And Quinn's parents were so cool. Its always great to see the couples from previous books show up in the stories. I liked that Nana showed up but not so much that she took over the story like she has in a couple if the other books. I am really excited for Mike and Yoshi's story!
Funny, sexy, heartbreaking describes Duke and Quinn
The beginning of this story had me in stitches, I was laughing so hard, Alexa Land you have done it again! Duke and Quinn are such opposites and yet they are so similar with their heartbreaking stories. There are so many places in this story where I laughed so hard and so many places where my heart was breaking for each of them, this is like riding a rollercoaster blindfolded, and yet it all flows seamlessly! Will read this over and over again, love your story Alexa Land!
I have read and re-read every book in the First and Forever series, but this one is my most favorite. Filled with tough but shy Cop Duke and fun and crazy Quinn and their misadventures. My husband thought I was going crazy because I would laugh so hard for parts of the story. And then the awe moments just leave you a puddle. Plus the recipe in these back of the book I just had to try and it is totally worth it.
Quinn's character/story are equal parts poignant and exuberant; which is a REALLY hard combo to pull off, but Alexa Land does it; seemingly effortlessly!
I'm SO happy for him when things finally work out in the end! His is a very much welcome HEA!
And then there's Nana...
Seriously, I LOOOOOVE her in this book! A 'flash parade?' Really?!! LMFAO!!!
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well written. I had wondered how these 2 characters that seemed opposites would fall in love. I have to say the author showed us how well they belonged together. It was such a sweet read.
The main character Chance is a ballet dancer and I really loved the descriptions of the dancing. I was really happy with the whole book and strongly recommend it for readers of m/m.
I fell in love with Duke and Quinn . Quinn is so outrageous it's epic . Dukes orderly life get turned upside down , Duke finds love and family he has always wanted and Quinn finally learn to love himself . With the support of Quinns family and friend they both get a happy ending.
I've been saying this since the last book in this series... Quinn is awesome. He's one of those people that I would love to hang out and be friends with. Oh, and Duke is pretty cool too. I'm glad I got to know more about them and look forward to getting updates in books to come. Well done Ms. Land and kudos to your dedication.
