After Dred laid waste to Heaven, defeated Lucifer, and kidnapped Gabriella, Arthur will do anything to stop him, even if it means teaming up with Hell's greatest enemy.
Armed with a sword more powerful than ever, Arthur has one chance to rebuild Heaven, forge an alliance between the angels and demons, and find the Holy Grail.
If he succeeds, he may just have the power he needs to defeat Dred and rescue Gabriella, but if he fails, well, at least the convenience store is still hiring.
When New York Times Bestselling author, J. A. Cipriano was in second grade, his teacher gave everyone in class a journal to write down whatever they wanted. Their first subject was to write about something they didn’t like. J. A. chose to write about why he didn’t like writing. His reasoning was simple. He had bad handwriting. Even then, he was destined to be an engineer due to his messy scrawl.
Unfortunately, he found through the course of this little adventure that he actually liked writing. That year was sort of the high point for his writing career because he won a writing contest for the state. He got to go to a big dinner and his teacher was all dressed up.
He kept writing little stories, year after year, and in sixth grade, won another contest. In seventh grade, he broke his arm and got the cast signed by both Dean Koontz and Stan Lee. It is, by far, the coolest cast he’s owned. That was about the time he found video games and anime. His writing turned mostly toward fanfiction until about ninth grade when he wrote his first novel, a small book about twenty thousand words called Revelations. In sophomore year, he wrote two more books to complete the trilogy because he saw Star Wars that year and learned trilogies were the cool thing to do.
He rewrote Revelations during his senior year, and his wife swears it is the best thing he’s written. J.A. is not so sure. Every time he reads it, he cringes, but then again, he hates everything he writes, so there is that.
It was about that time, he got heavily involved in a fanfiction writing group, but that isn’t one hundred percent accurate. It was a world based on a popular anime but everything was created especially for this world. It made it so that every story someone wrote was unique.
Imagine writing a Star Wars novel set 1,000 years after A New Hope, where everything that happened was a distant memory and you get the idea. You have the force, some distant memories of the past, and that’s pretty much it.
He wrote about a million words (863K to be exact) for them before he decided to do his own thing. He wrote another novel. He put it in a drawer. He wrote another one that eventually became the basis for The Hatter is Mad. His next novel was Kill It With Magic, his first real novel. It’s not bad, but it’s bumpy. This is unfortunate because the books get loads better as the series progresses.
Since then, he’s written six more novels, four of which are in the Lillim Callina Series, and one in the Abby Banks series. The other is stuck in a drawer for time undetermined. He’s writing his next book now which is about werewolves fighting mummies in Ancient Egypt. After that, he will move onto Abby Banks 2. The Spy Within will come out in June or July.
J.A. also has three chinchillas. Two of them are grey, and because of this, they are named Slate and Cadmium. The third is named Jet because he’s black, and Jet is old English for black. See, creative. He also has a cat named Turtle. This does pose problems for his two-year-old from time to time.
This book is the fourth book in the Legendary Builder series. Arthur is frantic to get Gabriella back from Dred, even if it means going to Heaven and reuniting it with Hell to help in that goal. Unfortunately, nothing is ever easy for Arthur, and he must use every tool at his disposal, even taking a bath in lava. I just think this series is so much fun! Mr. Cipriano does such a good job at keeping the reader entertained from the beginning to the end. Yes, sometimes I do roll my eyes at Arthur’s cheesy comments/thoughts about the females that surround him, but I think that’s part of his charm. We do find out a little bit more about the villains in the book, and what Arthur will face after Dred. I, for one, can’t wait to see what’s going to come next! If you are fan of this series, you’ll love this book! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.
Of the four books currently in the series, this might be the best one. While in some places it does feel a little awkward for the most part the author seems to have found his groove with the characters. There are parts that seem a little weak, some characters from the previous books get the short end of the stick in this one. For instance, Gwen is only in it for a few sentences. New characters are introduced and they seem to fit well with the universe. The book doesn't go on a large sexscapade like the previous and is more action oriented as well. One of the only complaints I still have is that at times the description of events can come off as a GM describing a scene poorly.
Another Arthur adventure as he runs around trying to save the day. Some funny scenes and some sexy scenes and don't forget the battles and quests. This time Arthur hopes to save Gabriela while uniting heaven and hell. Some funny scenes and some slap Arthur scenes made the story entertaining. Just had to read it to see what happened this time. My honest review is that I still find the series just fun to read and not too LitPRG. Plus the creatures/angels/ whatever else he runs into.
As the Darkness continues to encroach on Hell, Author does all he can to get Gabriella back from Dred, even managing to get Heaven and Hell to work together! But Author also realizes that Dred was not the only enemy... Great plot and characters, very well written. Action and twists kept me reading straight through to the end! Next book soon, please?
I'm going to be honest with you on this one. The MC is quickly becoming a dick. I really liked the story and the set up that's going on, but the MC is REALLY starting to become a huge dick. He is under a LOT of pressure to get a LOT of things done, and instead of listening to the people around him, he's gotten this hero complex where he think he can defeat someone who's literally been kicking ass for over a millennium that's literally being backed by a goddess...I know I know, he will prob end up doing something and pull this win out of his, because that's generally what happens in Fantasy books, but I was really hoping that the care that was given to the other characters would help out here. It's becoming more of the traditional hero getting to his breaking point where he's going to lose something major that ends up re-aligning him back to what he's supposed to do that could have all been avoided if he would have just listened to the people around him. But nooooooooo. He's going to be a huge dick.
What I honestly liked the most about this book was the interaction between the MC and the different people that were around him. He use to generally talk and learn something from each of them.
That LAST thing that's really getting on my damn nerves is the fact that HE STILL HASN'T FIGURED OUT HOW TO TALK TO ANYONE. Like, you would think by now, if he's lived around the demons in hell for as long as he has, he would have figured them out. It's almost as if he's willfully playing ignorant. If you've read this series, you get what I'm talking about. I'm not saying he should go around and just break everyone to his whim, but I am saying, at least acknowledge the elephant in the room. We are literally going into book 5 without it being addressed.
I'm calling it now for book 5. This is quickly pissing me off, the whole shonen approach when he literally had an entire kick ass crew to fall back on is grinding my gears. Everyone who should be shoulder to shoulder with the MC has become nothing but background decorations and it's a major loss to the book imo. I really hope I'm wrong about book 5.
Beside repairing or forging a new sword Arthur was given five achievements, similar to quests, to complete gaining reputation with Heaven. Rebuild Heaven, outfit the troops (upgrade equipment), those who are lost are found (the Ancient Warriors are lost, return them to Heaven), restore the Hallowed Host (the Holy Grail is lost, return it to Heaven), heal the rift (join the forces of Heaven and Hell). These are no lightweight tasks and Arthur will be taxed to the limit to get these completed. Working through these tasks will consume the majority of the book. I find that most of the sexual innuendo is just plain fun. The routine with Michele in the mess hall had me in stitches. The next book is an absolute as I must learn how this pans out. In this, my fourteenth read/listen from author J.A. Cipriano, it's all coming together! Outstanding & enjoyable read, especially for fans of FRP and so much more. The book continues seamlessly from book 3. So good I can't wait to delve into the next book in the series. Narrator Gary Furlong again lends his incredible talents to the reading of this book, his varied voice inflections add greatly to the enjoyment of the book.
Character development really exploded in this book of the series
In part by taking away the mcGuffin that allowed the introspection into the game, this book of the series was forced to rely a lot more on plot and characters.
I enjoyed the continuing breaking of archetypes with angels and demons forced into cooperation for the greater good.
I'm really glad the author didn't pull a "your princess is in the other castle", the story was tight and flowed well. There was a good feeling of progress so it never felt like a waste of time.
It continues to be a solid story told in an alternate realm where all of heaven and hell are women, and all of them want to screw one man. There are mistakes, and big stupid plot holes, but it’s still fun.
Arthur is almost someone i would not kill within an hour. Now i need around half a day. That's better than before. He goes and does some Builder stuff which i appreciate. This part of the series is whole, things happen: starts and finish. Is truly a good work.
J.A. has written another fine chapter in the builder series. Full of action as we follow the battle for the afterworld. And doing so in a format that gamers world wide are familiar with. Keep them coming.
A good consistent story about the heroes that is feeling there way through one difficulty after another! I am looking forward to the next book in the series and hopefully the hero stop doubting himself.
