The core has been transferred to an airship crashed deep on the Rim. There Emma and Anna will encounter feuding factions, terrifying monstrosities and new powered foes in need of becoming research experiments. With a badly damaged vessel they must steal, scavenge, and fight for what they need to upgrade to survive.
⭐⭐⭐ This is only the 2nd dungeon core book I’ve read but in my opinion when is a dungeon core not a dungeon core when the dungeon moves then it becomes an ordinary adventure. This book was short and action packed so no character development to speak of.
This series is less Dungeon Core and Litrpg than it's Steelheart with GLaDOS. As expected, Grant continues his chaotic frantic pace through this book. If anything, it's worse since the 'dungeon' can move around as the airship, literally jumping from one encounter to another. Worse, GLaDOS is kind of loosing her character, regularly being a human so she can interact, and most of the time she's loosing to stuff.
The best part of this book, is like the last part of a different book he did, where he kind of drops the premise entirely and throws in an a different type of video game the characters have to work through. He's got a real skill with short bursts of creativity. The problem is, when it comes to full stories, as short as his are, it comes across like a creativity slurry fired out of a cannon.
Still the best dungeon core story out there. The second book is a great continuation of the previous book. The third book is going to be even more insane with ending of the second one. Great sequel. Cannot wait or he next one. I've been looking forward to 11/17/17 for a while now. I was actually up at 12 am to get this book. It was totally worth the wait. 2 and a half hundred pages never seemed so short!
This series has the frenetic over-the-topness of a Tarantino flick. There's violence, slick characters and Gorgeous set pieces that remind of Nolan's work, and the good Mr.Grant puts in some litrpg goodness with a little of his own style that just pushes it all over the top. A great read.
I really enjoyed this book almost in spite of the giant mishmash of Portal, Girl Genius, and Warcraft. I keep giggling every time I read SCIENCE! ...if you don't want to read this book based on that, well, fine. But it is the most creative concept of dungeon core books I've found. (The execution could use a bit of polish.)
It was a fun read. Chewing gum for the mind; lots of flavor, no substance. It was snark on snark, go, go, go. Lots of laughs, and enjoyable. And I was throughly frustrated that it ended. Enjoy.
strangely fascinating. Violent, treacherous, and intentionally insulting. Still I kept reading, and then picked up the next one. Kind of like a zombie movie where the zombies are all killed in grotesque and messy ways. Except the zombies are living people.
Love the unique take on the dungeon core concept! Intelligently written, with a solid flow and an interesting plot. Certainly plan on picking up book 3!
I was extremely happy this series continues and I am completely addicted. I can not wait to read future books. They have been rather short so far but very enjoyable.
I really liked this the first time I read it, but it's far too fast paced and action sequence based for me to enjoy now. The author relies far too much on deus ex machina to progress his plot. I suppose I won't be finishing this series after all.
