Life in a small town can be dangerous indeed, a chilling reality newspaper reporter Beth Hudson is experiencing firsthand. Following the leads on two seemingly unrelated stories, she’s surprised to find herself entangled in the midst of a deadly web.  When local farmers are plagued by a rash of midnight visitors and police make the discovery of ritualistic altars in their fields, rumors of devil worshipping and animal sacrifice swirl. What Beth discovers is more chilling and more deadly than she ever could have imagined.

As Beth is drawn deeper into the mystery, it becomes clear that she’s in the crosshairs of a dangerous stalker. Even as her contentious relationship with Detective Ethan Moore takes an unexpected turn, her investigation leads her straight into the clutches of a killer. Before she and Ethan realize the risk, everything is on the line, and it might not be possible to keep Beth from becoming a victim.

Previously published as Under the Moon’s Shadow by T. L. Haddix, this works well as a stand alone. Warning: There is a small cliffhanger at the end which is picked up in Book 3 ... VANISHING POINT.

Beth Hudson, a newspaper reporter, is following what she believes are two unrelated stories. Local farmers are being visited by strange lights and sounds in the middle of the night. Ritualistic altars are found leading residents to wonder about devil worshiping in their midst.

There are also some mysterious disappearances that no one seems to have noticed. Those who have disappeared, are high risk, illegals, ladies who walk streets for a living, people with no family, no friends.

Beth must be getting close to something .. or someone. She has attracted a stalker. Her home has been vandalized, unwanted flowers delivered, her underwear which was stolen before is now being mailed back to her .. piece by piece.

Detective Ethan Moore and Beth have known each for years. Although they act more like oil and water, there is a strong attraction. Ethan will do anything to keep her safe.

The first half of the book is all about the crimes and the stalker. There are several suspects, but it was easy to pinpoint who was responsible for the stalking. The second half of the book is all about the romance. They both have issues and they're both working toward a future together.

There are some twists and turns along the way, and the cliff hangar is a small, but important one. The story premise is not unique, but it is well written. It's not terribly suspenseful, but the characters are likable for the most part.

Many thanks to the author / Streetlight Graphics Publishing / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Opinions expressed here are unsolicited, unbiased, and entirely my own.

It was an okay story. Had trouble believing some of the character motivation. Too many misunderstandings that could have been avoided if they would just use common sense or open their mouths and talk to each other. I have low tolerance for that kind of thing.

A yo-yo of a read.

I'm not really sure what the author was trying to do with this one. I really enjoyed the first novel in the series, Homecoming, but with this one, I just felt like the author was playing with the reader like a yo-yo. One minute I was really captivated by the storyline, and the next, I just couldn't figure out where the story was heading. And so... the yo-yo effect, I was pulled in, and then pushed back out.

I'll start with the main characters of this novel, Beth and Ethan, while we are familiar with these characters from Homecoming, I honestly wasn't sure that I really cared for their story. I didn't quite connect with them the way I did with Lauren and Charlie. I can't say it was the chemistry so much as it was the characters themselves. Beth is portrayed as this spoiled, yet independent woman, yet somehow, it just doesn't work for me. Ethan, on the otherhand comes from a difficult background, he struggles with alcohol abuse, he seems to have a complex about his nationality and being accepted by others, yet, all the while he can maintain a career as a cop? It didn't quite jive for me. Because the characters were flawed in my eyes in terms of development, I didn't quite buy into the romance. I didn't love their love story. There was nothing about Ethan that made me swoon, so I couldn't see what it was that Beth would want in the man.

Now, while Ethan and Beth are discovering their new romance, there's also strange things happening within the town... reports of devil worshipping, and people have also gone missing. Are the two connected? Okay, so a couple of things here... I thought the devil worshipping and reports of ritualistic altars in cornfields was a somewhat bizarre and corny choice. I didn't really care for this and it didn't fit into the storyline well. But, I will say, with this novel compared to Homecoming, I was glad that the suspense was turned up a notch. Even if only for a bit we aren't aware of who is behind the "killings", we don't know who is stalking Beth. This made for a better read, at least at first.

BUT... all is revealed... and rather early in the novel. I thought... Okay... this is strange. Where is this going? There must be some other big finish ahead? Uhhh... nope! Instead we get several chapters of Beth and Ethan going through rehab. I wanted to understand where this was taking the story, but for the life of me I could not get into it. Surely it was meant to strengthen their characters and their love, but to be honest, by this point, I don't think I was connected to them, so it just didn't work.

Lastly, we get a very small glimpse of a cliffhanger... I guess you could call it that. An insight into what the next novel could pertain. Only it was rather convoluted and I can't say that I really even took anything away from it. Perhaps it was the fact that by this point I had already checked out of the novel. I'm not sure at this point if I want to continue with the third in the series, but at the same time I'm torn... I really did enjoy the first one in the series, and I didn't completely hate Hunted... it was just all over the place. I'm just afraid that they get worse as you go. Hmm... something to think about.

I want to thank NetGalley, Streetlight Graphics Publishing, and T.L. Haddix (aka Alex Collins) for allowing me the chance to read this novel in exchange for my review.

This was my first experience reading a romance with a suspenseful theme, so I was pretty apprehensive when I started to read it. The blurb describing the book was very intriguing and was the key factor in my final decision. By the end of the story, I was a firm believer in the power of a well-written blurb because I would have totally missed reading something that thrilled me with its action and moved me with the depth of emotion found in its characters and the journey of a couple that had to go through the pain of separation and betrayal only to find themselves come a full circle.

The author did an incredible job in writing a story that held me firmly in its grip. I loved the pacing of the book because it gave me the opportunity to enjoy what I was reading and the time to picture in my mind everything that was happening. What I especially appreciated was the way she put the story together because it felt as though it was two books in one.

The first part had me following Beth, the lead reporter of her small town paper as she tried to uncover the truth behind a series of disappearances and discovery of ritualistic altars. It placed me straight in the middle of conflict and as the story progressed and tension built, I was totally hooked on knowing who was behind it all. The implication that Ethan, the potential love interest for Beth, was involved lead to some interesting scenes and I loved the excitement it had me feeling.

The second part of the book was what really touched my heart and moved me at one point to tears. Without giving too much away, it tells of Beth's journey to recover from the trauma of earlier events and her struggle to repair the damage to her spirit. To me, the storyline was realistic and I liked what I could only describe as the extra touches that made connecting with Beth easy. I enjoyed the obstacles Ethan and Beth had to work through before finally accepting and knowing what they wanted from each other. One thing for sure though – the last few sentences of the book blew my mind and has me somewhat impatient for the next book.

I loved the different characters of the story. I enjoyed reading the way they interacted with each other and how they were able to deal with the different challenges they faced. I admired the courage Beth showed in working through her fears to slowly put her life together and how after everything that happened, she was able to grab hold of what she wanted and claim it. Her relationship with Ethan was rocky at the best of times and I felt for both of them. Poor Ethan tugged on my heartstrings because through the many choices he made, disaster always seemed to follow. I loved the growth I saw in his character, the vulnerability I was eventually able to see as he pushed through it all. Watching all the tension, the betrayal, the anger and hurt made me want to cheer for the couple all the more loudly. I couldn't help but fall in love with them.

Looking back, I really enjoyed the experience and aside from a little confusion about the abrupt disappearance of a subplot, it was a terrific read. Oh and just so you know, the confusion turned into an "OMGSH" at the last moment and the excitement from it will lead me into the next installment. For me, this was a well-written book and one that I think readers will enjoy a lot. UNDER THE MOON'S SHADOW is definitely a book worth getting a hold of and reading. Enjoy!

This book was given to me as a ARC (Advanced Reading Copy) but the opinions in here are all my one and unsolicited. This said i want to thanks the author, Streetlight Graphics Publishing and Netgalley for this copy.

This is a new to me author so i was a little bit surprised when i see that this book was originaly published as another title and that Alex Collins is really a pseudonime for T.L. Haddix. This said i see also that this is the second book of Olman County series and that let me a little bit apreensive, what if i need the first book to understand parts of this one?

Luckly my fears are not justified this time, though this is a book series, it stands alone quite well and i do not need anything from the previous book to understand this one.

When i request this copy i was expecting it to be a heavy mysterie book, again i was surprised to see this really is a romantic suspense and i like that genre a lot.

For those of you that are familiar with the Nora Roberts books and movies i have to say that this book reminds me a lot of that style and i think it will give a pretty decent movie itself. The writing is simple enough yet you get so immersed in the plot you almost forget the world around you, as for the main characters i love that they are not the perfect specimens that sometimes we get to see in books, all the faults and the small details just makes them more real to me and i really enjoy seeing their story.

The book was divided in two parts.

First we get all the mysterie and i was expecting it will last until the end, so i was a little bit surprised when more or less at 60% of the book all that was solved. The idea of the plot is not a mind bloing one since i discover pretty easy who was to blame and the motivations behind the crimes. However at the very end of the book we get to see some twists and there are a question left open for the future which makes me want to read the next book of this series.

The second part of the book i can call it the more romantic part are about how the characters react to what happens in the crime and how they fight all the demons within. Personaly i like this glimpse into their lifes but i fell this section of the book to be a little slow paced.

I gave this book 4.25 out of 5*, i intend to catch up with the first book and later read the third to see what will happen to the character's. I recomend this book to someone you like some suspense but also like to have romance and real life struggles in the misture.

I enjoyed Hunted. I actually have read the earlier version of this book published by T.L. Haddix, which I also enjoyed. I do feel that this shorter version and rewrite actually made this a stronger book.

I did really like the main characters Beth and Ethan. I like Ethan quite a bit more in this book. (In the original version he was a pretty big jerk much of the time.) I found the book entertaining and well paced (even though I knew a lot of what would happen).

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance with an element of suspense or mystery.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book, but once I found out the author was T.L. Haddix there was no doubt that this book was going to be great. Beth is a news reporter on the trail of a surprising lead that puts her in the path of Ethan the police detective and man that she has found attractive for years. Beth uncovers something that rocks the core of the town and puts her in the way of unforeseen evil, Will past troubles impact the relationship that was possibly developing between them or will something else altogether interfere? Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this book and write a honest review.

Good, but not great

This was a good mystery. Very dark, but a good book. I liked Beth and her family. I never really warmed to Ethan. I do like Gordan though. It was a very in depth and long story. A lot of detail in it. I'm glad things happened the way they did and the story dragged out some though. Not overly thrilled with the ending for Beth, but maybe it was just because I didn't like the other character involved.

DNF - seriously? What the heck did I just read?!

I don't think I've ever witnessed a relationship more abusing than this book's couple seemed to have - and that's saying something! Apart from the fact the plot was obvious as hell, and the sex happened behind closed doors - really now, why would you do that, when the suspense isn't that thrilling, and there's no real reason like there was in the previous book to NOT show the reader the yummy parts?! - the book was nearly traumatizing for me. As in "please, dear God, never let me fall for a guy like Ethan, I'm not that much of a sinner to deserve that, right?" kind of traumatizing.

I couldn't care less if Beth ends up with Ethan at this point, too. Truth be told, I hope she doesn't because no woman deserves that kind of treatment! This guy not only ruined it for me, he made me disgusted enough that I don't even want to touch the rest of the books! Verbal abuse, sleeping with someone then re-abusing them, letting them in danger, good Lord, I don't care about his excuses, this was cruel! And before any of you decides to get on my case about it being realistic, well, let me tell you, I don't want THAT much realism in my romance stories. If I wanted realistic, I'd be observing all those fucked up relationships around me to pass the time, I wouldn't be reading books. Even I have a girl's heart, damn it!

This is the 2nd book in T.L. Haddix's series of Romantic Suspense novels and it is as well-written and enjoyable as the first. Beth Hudson is a journalist in Leroy, Indiana and the best friend of Lauren Grant from Secrets in the Shadows. People are disappearing from around Leroy and Beth thinks she has figured out what is going on. The problem is, she may be the next victim.
The more you read of this series the more you begin to view this characters as people you know. They don't have supernatural deductive powers or pull rabbits out of their hats. They are simply people doing their every day jobs and living their lives. These are people who could live down the street.
Now granted, this is the Great American Novel, but it is definitely an enjoyable read and not so predictable that you have everything all sewn up before you get a third of the way through. Really enjoyed it.

I AM READING THIS SERIES OUT OF ORDER SO I MET THE CHARACTER ETHAN IN A PREVIOUS BOOK AND I LIKED HIM. WHAT A DIFFERENT CHARACTER HE IS IN THIS ON ESPECILLY SINCE IT’S HIS AND BETH’S STORY. I REALLY DISLIKED HOW HE WAS HIS CHARACTER CHANGED INTO A REAL A-HOLE. I THINK THAT EVEN THOUGH THESE ARE STANDALONE’S IF NOT READ IN ORDER IT CAN COME AS A SHOCK THE WAY HE WAS ACTING. BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY CHARACTERS TO KEEP UP WITH (way-to-many) THEY WERE CHANGED TO MAKE THE BOOK MORE INTERESTING AND IT DID. I STILL ENJOYED BUT THE STORYLINE IT WAS TOO DRAWN OUT. ;D

Second shadows

I've just finished the second shadow in the series, and enjoyed it as much as the first.Ms Haddix writes a good story , keeps you interested from first to last .good story line with enough details, so that you aren't left wondering or you have to fill in yourself . if you like a book to hold your attention, and you have the time for one you can't put down ,then this is the series for you. Enjoy.

Another winner

This is the second book in the series that I have read in two days. Serial killers, demented woman who can't accept the word "No", and love put through the ringer. Same basic characters as the first book, but new interesting ones introduced. Nice clean romance, not cluttered by sex scenes used as just a filler in a story. Starting third book, so glad I took a chance on some free reads from an author new to me.

This book was better than the first one but still lacking. First and foremost, please hire a new editor. There were so many grammatical/nonsensical sentences. The book started off okay and then started building a good storyline only to fall through at the end. The ending was just "okay." I was expecting more of a storyline with Ruby the way the author had built her up in the book. Anyways, this book was an improvement on the first one so I am hoping the rest of the books only get better.

I love this book! I'm on my third and fourth time reading it (once to my husband and another time for me!). Anyway, damn you, T.L. Haddix, every time I pick up the book, I can't put it down. You can't really say a lot about the book without ruining it. Just pick it up, you won't be able to put it down!

Another great addition to my Shadow Collection sagas!

I love the storyline behind the Shadow Collection stories. They are filled with suspense and romance with a little danger thrown in for good measure. The push and pull of a blossoming romance has great charm and the intrigue with criminal activities give you a wonderful mystery inside.

This was an interesting little story. It wasn't quite a mystery and it wasn't quite a romance, but the character development was fantastic, to the point that I didn't care *how* the story was classified--I just wanted the characters to end up happy. It's definitely more mature--PG-13, probably.

The second book in the series, more enjoyable than the first because the characters are like old friends. However, I thought Ethan's moodiness and temper were a little too extreme.
