The Scoop By now you're probably aware that the Alex Troutt thrillers, Ivy Nash thrillers, and the soon-to-be-released Ozzie Novak thrillers are all under the same Redemption Thriller Series umbrella. Why? Because, ultimately, they all connect -- Alex, Ivy, Ozzie. How? That's part of the mystery that I'm slowly unveiling throughout the Redemption Thriller Series.
Through each sub-series, characters from different books appear in the other novels. If it adds suspense, intrigue, or even a good laugh, I've included a cross-over character -- it's a lot more fun that way. Plus -- and here's the real kicker -- I'll write a final six novels that brings all of the major characters together -- Alex, Ivy, Ozzie. It will be explosive and gut-wrenching…in a way that will leave you breathless. At least that's my hope.
Starting with IN The End (Nov. 10 release), I'll be launching a new book every 2-4 weeks. IN The End will segue into the Ozzie Novak Thrillers. ON Edge (book 1), is due out on November 28. From there, it will be non-stop suspense until all six Ozzie books are released. And my editor tells me that Ozzie Novak is my best character yet.:) So, I hope you're ready for some thrilling binge-reading.

John W. Mefford has been writing his debut novel since he first entered the work force almost thirty years ago, although he never put words on paper until 2009. Once he started writing, however, he couldn't stop. Many readers ask John from where he gets his ideas. Well, he's a veteran of the corporate rat-race, a former journalist, and he's always been an astute observer of human and social behavior. On top of that, he's really good at embellishing.
A member of International Thriller Writers, John writes novels full of electrifying suspense -- the same types of books he has loved to read since before he could shave.
Read many books written by this author, he writes captivating stories. Time to time other characters also come in, to do what they can't help Ozzie's quest to find a blood relative he didn't know he had. Really liked the ending.
An excellent story with plenty of action as Ozzie Novak starts to put his life together after all the recent upsets! When immediately he is thrown for a loop again, as he receives a letter from his prom date years ago stating he has a daughter who is in danger. They live in Hawaii, so Ozzie jumps on a plane to start a new adventure! Interesting characters,as Ozzie learns from Denise that she was pregnant after they left school, and she was in Hawaii so figured not to bother him. The girl, Mackenzie, is now nine years old, and kidnapped by local 'mob' outfit, or so the mother believes. Ozzie is lucky to be able to call a few friends, from police and FBI, to assist their search as danger increases with every mile they are told to drive. There is happiness and deep sadness, as Ozzie fights to find his daughter safe. A story I could not stop reading until the end was reached. Ozzie is a great character who is growing and learning as life throws some big blocks in his way!!
Ozzie Novak just got some news that makes him drop everything at his law practice and fly to Hawaii at the summons of his old high school girlfriend. Game On, Book 2 in the in the Ozzie Novak thriller series, picks up where book one, ON Edge, left off. Ozzie’s just found out that MacKenzie – the adult daughter he never knew about – is in danger. Somehow Denise, Novak’s high school sweetheart and one night stand, stumbled up on a money laundering scheme at her job that involves the Japanese mob! Novak must trust old contacts, new influences, and embark on a mission with Denise to solve a mystery and save their daughter. If you have been an avid reader of John W. Mefford’s books, now is when we get to see the characters from the Redemption series start to come together. In their plight to find MacKenzie, Novak must trust Alex Troutt, detective extraordinaire, from Mefford’s AT series! As they follow the clues across continents, Novak is helped by a team of amazing and intense characters, some of which are from previous Mefford books. It is high paced, action packed from the start, with lots of twists and turns. Although it is super cool to see these series start to merge together, they can all, including this one, be read as standalone books and/or series. ***I received this book free of charge in exchange for my review
John W. Mefford is killing it with this new installment of the Redemption Series. Ozzie Novak is my new favorite! Thrillers are my favorite genre of books because of, well, the thrill, of course! Ozzie is so different from Alex Trout and Ivy Nash - yet, I feel the kindred souls aspect of the characters. Being only the second book in, I feel like Ozzie has a huge number of facets (like a diamond) and we've only just touched on who he is, what has made him who he is, and what he will become when this wild ride ends. From page one, this book definitely screams GAME ON!! It takes your breath and still leaves you gasping for air at the final sentence. His life is already such a whirlwind from events in book one and then he's spun into the mystery of his daughter disappearing -- all while discovering that she exists in the first place! As Ozzie-style would have it, he plunges into a whole slew of off-the-wall, crazy situations that, individually, don't make sense, but when the end of the game nears, everything falls into place for understanding. Will this GAME ON become a GAME OVER? You'll have to read to find out!
I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
Just when I think his books can't get any better, John W. Mefford surprises me! This book was AWESOME!
I honestly didn't think Ozzie's life could get any crazier, but it does! He gets news that he has a long-lost daughter and she has been kidnapped! He isn't sure if she really is his daughter, but he rushes off to Hawaii to help save her! He begins his dangerous and twisted search for her and gets help from some new and old friends. This can be read as a stand-alone, but I would highly encourage you to read the previous books in the Redemption Series. John does a fantastic job of bringing some past characters into this book and intermingling them into this story.
The connection between the characters is so well written. Their individual personalities are very clear in John W. Mefford's writing, and I enjoy that the most. John's writing is so brilliant and smoothly written that you will have a challenging time putting this thriller down! Mefford draws you into this suspenseful mystery and you are left riding on this emotional roller coaster with Ozzie.
This is a great read and one that will leave you wanting more! I cannot wait to dive into the next book!
Imagine having just lost your father to what you are sure was not a massive heart attack, but murder - as it was proved. Then, imagine getting a letter from someone you knew in high school that says you have a daughter and she is in danger. All I can say is I would probably be the next one having a heart attack.
Not Ozzie Novak. He hops in a plane and heads to the return address on that letter. He isn't sure what he is going to find at the end of his trip. I am 100% certain he did not expect what he finds. He also probably didn't expect to need to eventually call in the FBI - where Mefford brings back Nick Radowski and Alex Troutt.
The twists and turns in this book are almost unbelievable. I am sure a lot of it was taken from news articles of the past. If you are looking for a good cliffhanger, you need to pick up Game ON from John W Mefford.
I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
Game on is the 2nd book of the Ozzie Novak series. The book is written well and flows nicely from the first book on edge. If you have not read the first book you will not struggle with game on but the first book gives you an insight into the main character Ozzie Novak and his past which this story also relates to. Ozzie Novak finds out he has a teenage daughter that he has never met who has been kidnapped. He courageously goes in search for his new daughter by following cryptic clues left by the kidnappers. There were a few bits of this book that I was not expecting so it was fun to read to find out what was going to happen next. Ozzie Novak a lawyer seems to be getting himself into some scraps and I can not wait to read the next in the series to see what he is going to get up to next.
You would think that life couldn't get more exciting for Ozzie Novak, who up until recently had a mundane but pleasant existence. Suddenly what should be an island paradise, a place to rest and relax, has become a twisted hell where Ozzie must race to save his flesh and blood before all is lost. Over and over again John Mefford has impressed with his ability to seemingly paint his characters into a corner, only to have them use their wiles and resources to escape just in time. But with Ozzie's world on the line, will there be another miraculous solution coming down the line, or will Ozzie lose everything he didn't know he had?
Ozzie is still reeling from his marriage failing, his life collapsing and his father's death. He literally hasn't even taken a breath when he gets a letter from a former girlfriend saying that he has a daughter and she's in trouble.
Ozzie drops everything to go help, and is soon embroiled in a battle with the Japanese mob, not knowing who he can trust. Everyone and everything is questionable.
My absolute favorite thing about this series is the fact that it ties together with his other story lines! I love checking in with my favorite characters from his other books!
This book can definitely be read as a standalone, but you won't want to miss the rest of the series.
After all Ozzie has been through in the past book, you would thing a break is in order. Not a chance. First we find out there is a girl who has been kidnapped. Not just any girl, but his daughter?? Ozzie will travel where ever he needs to in order to save her.
We learn more about Ozzie determination and a bit about his tender side. Plenty of twists and action going on. Pretty much an edge of your seats story. Another great addition to Meffords saga.
Ozzie learns he has a daughter and is on a flight to meet her. When he arrives, he finds his ex in a state of panic, telling him their daughter has been kidnapped. This book is non-stop action that takes you all over the country, finding Ozzie in life and death situations.
I was on the edge of my seat throughout the book and couldn’t put it down. It was a rollercoaster of a heart-pounding adventure. A must-read for those who enjoy suspense novels.
When Ozzie received a letter from Denise, an old girlfriend, stating he had a daughter and she was in danger, Ozzie dropped everything and immediately flew to Hawaii to help. Even though it was a shock, it couldn’t have come at a better time for Ozzie. His perfect life had recently been turned upside down and finding a blood relative gave him hope. Arriving in Hawaii though, Ozzie discovers his daughter Mackenzie has been kidnapped by the Yakuza, a Japanese mafia syndicate. But as Ozzie and Denise follow the clues to find Mackenzie, they find themselves in peril also.
It seems everything is extreme involving Ozzie. He is a very complex character. This series just gets better and better. The action was non-stop and intense. Having read the other Redemption books, I love the character crossovers. This one revealed more of how the Redemption series will come together in the end.
This one will have you biting your nails--will Ozzie be able to save the daughter he never knew existed? How many have to die. Will Alex Trout and others be able to unravel and stop these murders before it is too late? And who is the tribe really after and why? You will have to read this book to find out!!
John Mefford is certainly on a roll with the 'Redemption' series, and the Ozzie Novak series in particular. Ozzie himself is a great character, having flaws (hearing loss and a wife who has cheated on him) like all Mefford's lead characters, but this just makes him more human and believable. In this book he is summoned to Hawaii by an ex-girlfriend, Denise, who's daughter, Mackenzie, has apparently been kidnapped by the Yakusa , the twist being that Ozzie is the kidnapped girl's father, following a one-night stand. There follows a trail of cryptic clues which Ozzie and Denise must follow to find Mackenzie, but he is helped by a team of characters from the previous 'Redemption' books, including Alex Troutt. This is presumably the start of the author's intention to draw the three sub-series (Alex Troutt, Ivy Nash and Ozzie Novak) together. So, Ozzie and Denise will manage to rescue Mackenzie from her kidnappers and everything will end well, won't it? Well as they say, 'that would be telling!' so you'll just have to read it and find out. Suffice it to say that there are twists and surprises all through the book. This book can be read as an excellent stand-alone story, but it is better if ON Edge has been read before, and even better still if all the 'Redemption' books have been read.
Lost and found in Hawaii I have to confess: I am a long time fan of Mr.Mefford's work and have followed his Redemption series since the beginning (this is book 14, but each one can be read entirely as a stand alone). The first twelve stories focused on two very different women as main protagonistts, firstly the feisty FBI agent, Alex Troutt, then the children's champion Ivy Nash, but this new leading man Ozzie Novak , On Edge, promises to be the most appealing of them all, so far.
Continuing on immediately from his introductory novel, On Edge, Ozzie travels to Hawaii to learn the truth about an unknown daughter which a long ago girlfriend says is his. A daughter who would mean he is not alone, after all. A daughter who was in danger. And, though he doesn't know it when he meets up with the mother again for the first time in several years, by going to Hawaii he is flying into danger.
John Mefford's books are well written and easy to read with good characterisations of personalities which, like real life people, grow and alter as they encounter life. Sometimes humerous in part, always visually alive, the thriller stories are also intriguing and exciting. An overall excellent series and Ozzie Novak is definitely a winner.
Once again, author Mefford has created a book that is worthy of reading. Game On is the second in the Ozzie Novak Thriller series and it’s every better than the first. The story had you hooked right from the start all the way to the end. When it ends, you want more. Thankfully that’s possible since there are more in the series.
In this book, Ozzie Novak is still dealing with issues such as his father’s death, his wife cheating o him and no longer desiring to be a lawyer. Then he receives a letter from his highschool girlfriend and prom date,Denise, telling him he has a daughter and she’s in trouble. So off Ozzie goes to Hawaii to help Denise. When he gets there he finds out his daughter, Mackenzie, has been kidnapped and he does whatever he can to find her. During his time trying to find her, it brings a lot of trouble, pain and sorrow and from Hawaii to the east coast of the US. There is a lot of twist and turns and the part I enjoyed the most was bringing in characters from other Mefford series.
I highly recommend this book and the series. Mefford knows how to write a story and keep you engaged.
John Mefford is so on top of HIS game..which is writing masterfully this Redemption Thriller series. He has managed once again to bring us another GREAT READ. I have grown to love his Ozzie character in Game On. And of course grown to trust that every single book, plot, characters, story line, is not ever going to let me down. No weak endings. No bad beginnings. No letting the core of the story down....on and on Mefford secures it all with his skillful writing. It is my delight to recommend Game On and in fact all his books in the Redemption Thriller series. There is I suspect no end in sight ever for the books of John Mefford’s future. My feeling is that the books are going to just keep on coming and all of them will be bound by that same code he writes by which is to take the reader on many journeys through his wonderful characters and plots. You cannot go wrong ever reading John W. Mefford books, so grab this one and begin a journey with Mr. Mefford whereby you are enriched with wonder stories. Definitely a MUST READ. You the reader receives the reward. Always.
Game On is the second in the Ozzie Novak Series and the seventeenth in the overall Redemption Series, all by John Mefford. I keep saying the last book was the best in the series. And so it is with Game On. How John can keep all this straight in his mind is beyond me but he does a remarkable job of creating a better book with each one in the series. Game On is no exception. It will keep your heart pounding and have you on the edge of your seat more than once. Ozzie gets in more life and death situations that you haven’t a clue are going to happen. Nor can you figure out how he will get out of them. Somehow John does a masterful job of making it all happen. He continues to impress me with this large series. You need to start reading this exciting series now. Lee Childs and Jeffery Deaver had better look over their shoulders cause there is a new guy in town and he is coming up fast!
Oh my, does Ozzie ever get a break? This story is about Ozzie looking for his daughter. A daughter he didn't know about until just lately. Now it is a game to someone who has a very twisted mind. Ozzie is traveling everywhere and deciphering clues to try and save his daughter. But he is only one person, he will need some help to really get this job done. Can he trust Alex Troutt to help him or will she cause him more problems? This is a nail biting, page turning, non stop story! You really don't want to miss this one. And if you haven't read On Edge shame on you!!!! I voluntarily reviewed this book. The review is of my own opinion. I have read all of John's books so far.....what are you waiting for?
This is book two in the Ozzie Novak series and I couldn’t wait to read this book!
You don’t have to read the first one – you won’t be lost reading this one – but never pass up a chance to read a John Meffors book! They are too good to pass up!
Game ON takes us on quite the adventure as we try to figure out who kidnapped Ozzie’s daughter – who he didn’t even know about until roughly 48 hours before this adventure begins.
There are several key suspects and the list grows as the adventure continues. And what is a John Mefford book without action, suspense and a little (moderate) amount of violence.
Mefford hasn’t let me down yet. In fact, his books keep getting better. I can’t wait to read what comes next!
Alex meet Ozzie. I have read book seven of the Alex Trout series and it has Ozzie in it. I remember wondering how they became friends and the story that alluded to in that book, well now I know! Ozzie hasn’t met his daughter yet, but he does not hold back finding her. The tie back to camp is real and a former Alex story was fantastic as it had suspense, intrigue, crime, relationship matter and started connecting all the main characters.
I love that Ozzie is not a super hero, but is so determined to do his best. The emotions and vivid character development have me rooting for him and his series. Can’t wait to see how his P.I. works out and how his relationships progress.
I find Ozzie to be more and more human. A little trust comes out with Alex Trout's help. I though Ozzie to be very untrusting, a poor excuse for a person, but knew that was because of his background. Can he save the girl? Will either of them live through this tense thriller? What's the truth here...Is she his daughter? Questions and a thrill ride to get answers! John Mefford keeps you on your toes, questions run through your mind, and boy, does he write a captivating story. I am thoroughly enjoying these stories and know that you will too.
The second in the Ozzie Novak series. And the seventeenth in the Redemption series. In this book we find that adopted Ozzie may actually have a biological family. A daughter. And the action begins! This is a fast paced thriller that we have come to expect with John Mefford. And we get to revisit with old "friend", Alex Trout. This is another Mefford "on the edge of your seat book" and I am excited to see where he takes us next. I received this book for an honest review. And honestly I cant put this series down!
Another excellent story by Mr. Mefford! This one is quite a ride (literally) all over the US. Lots of violence but also some very tender moments. Keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat throughout the book. And leaves just enough loose strings to make you wonder how it's all going to fit together in the end. Loved it!!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I have followed John Mefford's books for years & his Redemption series is extremely good from all points of view. His latest hero is a true-to-life character with flaws & strong points. He suddenly becomes involved in a devious plot against him. The action is intense with twists & turns in a tremendous story that grips the reader's imagination. This is top-of-the shelf reading matter.
Its hard to believe such events happen. But you hear/ read it on the news th a t there is another world out there of humans that don't live by basic human values (the underworld). Good story of how they think and the trials one goes through to get a loved one back
'Game ON' was very thrilling. The story line completely blew me away. Full of intense situations. The characters were a mix of dedicated ally's to dedicated a$$holes. Crazy creative. The way it played out was well written and well thought out. Ozzie got his ass handed to him more than once. Then the author called in the big dogs. What a great read. I can't wait to read more. A must read.
This book, Game ON, is in all senses of the word, a thriller, as has been all his books and as much as Alex Troutt and Ivy Nash were thrillers, this is more so. That’s it, no more spoilers from me. Outstanding read! John Mefford has become one of my favorite authors!
Interesting premise, decent writing and story telling..
Ozzie has a surprise waiting for him in Hawaii. His former girlfriend tel!s him something that will stun him. His life changes in many ways as he and his ex travel far and wide looking for answers.
I choose to rate it with 4 stars as the book was and entertaining twist of emotion and intrigue, but it didn't flesh out the characters as much as I would have liked, in order to truly see what made them tick. Yes, I would and will invite others to read.
