Broken Promise by Tara Thomas is the third and final book in the romantic suspense Sons of Broad series. There were also three prequel novellas that helped open up the series before the full length novels began. Each of the books switches the main characters/couple but the overall story has been built from the very beginning so it really is best to read the series in order.
This third book centers around the oldest of the three Benedict brothers that have been the center of the series. Kipling is looked at as the head of the Benedict family being the oldest and now it’s his turn to find love with Alyssa Adams, the very same Alyssa who is a police officer that arrested him in the past.
Alyssa became a police officer after the murder of her older sister ten years before. Now signs are pointing to her sister’s death being tied into the threat that the Benedict brothers have found themselves up against. The pair team up together to get answers and find out who has been after the entire family before it is too late.
I have been following this series from the very beginning and was quite excited to finally be able to get answers as to who was behind all of the danger. The unknown gentlemen and his motives for murder and mayhem are finally revealed in the action packed conclusion to the Sons of Broad series. This was a great conclusion that included all of the previous characters and gave a final look into them all in the wrap up. A great series overall for the fans of romantic suspense.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is the third installment of the Sons of Broad series and this book required the previous books to feel engaged with the storyline. While I was able to read this in one sitting, and the pace of the content was continual, it felt disjointed at times.
The story revolves around the Benedict brothers and Kipling is the center of this book. He is a confirmed bachelor who wants to figure out the events that have happened to his family but soon needs the help of his adversary, Allison, the officer who arrested him from the previous book. The two realize there is chemistry between them and try to prevent a connection but they soon join forces to solve a kidnapping that involves Kipling's sister. As they get deeper into the investigation, they discover there is a link between the kidnapping and the murder of Allison's sister many years ago.
Time is running out as they try to locate Jade, Kipling's sister, but the kidnapper is a step ahead of them and their own lives are in danger. The kidnapper is sinister and devious and has been waiting over 40 years to exact his revenge against the Benedict family. The story has a dramatic ending and leaves an opening to continue the series.
I enjoyed this one quite a lot. In fact, I think it may be my favorite of the series. We finally find out the identity of the "Gentleman" and all the "hows & whys" of it all. Both Kipling <--- god awful name BTW. Every time I read it all I could think of was a kipper (lol), and Alyssa were likable main characters. I continued to like Jade as well, and I really hope we see a novella featuring her HEA at some point.
That said, I had a couple of issues that lowered my rating a bit. Both took place right near the end. I was a tiny bit annoyed that the author never told us what happened to Kipling when the gentleman had him. When they are saved, he appears to have just a concussion and no outward signs of injuries. Then all of a sudden he is almost dead, in a coma, and spends weeks in intense physical therapy?? For what exactly?? A little more detail was definitely needed. The other issue was, we are told Jade got shot, but then she is perfectly OK sitting in the hospital waiting room, and her being injured is never brought up...like AT ALL. Both those issue did have me lowering my rating a bit.
Apart from that, this was a really good book and a really enjoyable series.
Thank you St. Martin's Press for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
We're down on the last book of Sons of Broad series and I'm thrilled how this ends because I want to know who's The Gentleman. This book is about the eldest Benedict brother, Kipling Benedict and Officer Alyssa Adams. These two buttheads each time they meet and now they're on the same side to find a closure to their love ones who'd been murdered and believe The Gentleman is behind of it all.
Secrets were revealed and this finale is great for brainstorming. If you haven't missed any detail, you might easily guess the mastermind. The Gentleman was wicked, selfish and jealous and karma served him right. Shame on him. It's a great conclusion for the series but this one was my least favorite. Not a fan of Alyssa and Kipling.
Slow growing plot that is finally coming to a head with lots of build up and heat between two characters that were at odds. A little heavy on the romance, a little light on the suspense.
I received this ARC copy of Broken Promise from St. Martin's Press. This is my honest and voluntary review. Broken Promise is set for publication June 26, 2018.
Broken Promise was a thrilling and action-packed conclusion to the Sons of Broad series and I really enjoyed it!
Officer Alyssa Adams made a vow to protect the women of Charleston and that she would one day find out what happened to her older sister ten years ago. After more and more of her cases become entangled with the Benedicts, Alyssa knows she should stay away from Kipling, the eldest Benedict son. But when Kipling’s long-lost sibling is kidnapped, the two must work together to find the culprit before it’s too late.
As the eldest Benedict son, Kipling has always felt an immense duty to take care of his brothers. Family means everything to Kipling and he values family above all else. Due to a past relationship gone bad, Kipling has no intention of being in a relationship and never dates the same woman twice. After losing her older sister in a violent crime, Alyssa joined the police force in the hopes of protecting other women and one day finding her sister’s killer. Alyssa is fantastic at her job but has a tendency to second guess herself after discovering an old boyfriend was a murderer. Kipling and Alyssa work well together despite Kipling’s tendency to be overprotective which Alyssa calls him out for. The two have great chemistry and I really enjoyed the physical scenes between them.
In Broken Promise we finally learn the identity of The Gentleman, the villain who has been working behind the scenes since the beginning to take down the Benedicts. Before the reveal I had a few theories as to who he was and why he was going after the Benedicts and every theory ended up being wrong. The author did an amazing job in regards to The Gentleman and I found his motives quite compelling once we learned them. I definitely found the suspense elements of these books to be the best part as they were very well done.
Ultimately Broken Promise ended up being my favorite book in the Sons of Broad series which overall was a great series. I’d recommend these books for fans of romantic suspense with a heavier suspense aspect.

Broken Promises is the third and final book in the romantic suspense Sons of Broad series. This series got better each book and I am really happy how the author finished it. I think the main reason I enjoyed this book more than the previous ones are the characters. They were adults and acted in a way that made sense. Alyssa is a police officer and her behavior reflected her profession. Kipling is the oldest brother and is very protective. The tension between these two was noticeable in the previous books. I loved seeing how these two came together, and wished there were a couple more scenes showing them being intimate.
In this book there are a couple of twists and turns, and I was happy I finally found out who was terrorizing this family. I loved how everything eventually fit together and having all the answers to my questions. I am really hoping for a novella showing how all the couples are doing in the future. The suspense was perfect, I was just hoping for a bit more romance. The writing was excellent and I loved the writing style, it was really easy to read. I just wished the book was a bit longer, however I am satisfied with how everything was concluded. I am looking forward to reading more books by Tara Thomas.
The third and final installment of the Sons of Broad romantic suspense series was one I was convinced would easily be the best of the series for me. And, it was. Not just because it held all the answers and was the big finale, but because I've been anticipating this romance pair since they were introduced and the sparks started flying.
Broken Promise is the third book in a trilogy that is all one story with the limelight going to each of the Benedict Brothers and the ladies in their lives. It is not a good standalone or place to start the series.
Up to this point, the villain known as The Gentleman has pretty much had it all his own way. Keaton and Tilly slipped through as did Knox and Bea, but that didn't change the fact that he's still operating in the shadows and the family has no idea from what direction the danger is coming at them. In this final segment, Kipling as his sassy cop, Alyssa team up and discover that her family secrets hold the clue that will be the game changer. That said, they have to survive long enough to pursue it. Meanwhile, Jade, the secret Benedict child, is in dire straights and time is running out.
As those who read my reviews might remember, I began this series with a prequel novella trilogy that was less than impressive as were the first two books in this series. The stories were okay with several niggling issues. The villain and his quest for revenge was the most compelling part of the story with the romance and the investigation side being weak and improbable at best. My complaints in the past were improbable plotting, shallow development on the characters and their backstory and instalove with no real development. All gone. This one did it all right.
Kipling and Alyssa had good chemistry and they made a good detecting team. They followed the trail through the past that led to some surprising places even as The Gentleman and his people were on their trail, constantly. They worked smart and had some good sizzling moments as they both learned to get past their issues- Kipling trusted that Alyssa wanted him for him and she started shedding her guilt about her sister and her mistake with her ex. I liked how the family of brother and their ladies worked together and I really liked what came of Jade's story splicing in. The epilogue was sweet and a great finish.
This version came with a bonus novella that was the third of the prequel novellas. It's actually a good one to have if the reader didn't already read them before going into the novels since its the one that gives backstory to Alyssa's ex and some of her work on the case.
So, that leaves me with a dilemma. I loved this book and could definitely recommend it, but.. its book three and I can't say I'd heartily recommend the first two. They were okay and had some good points and they led into this one. Maybe, I'll just say give the series a try. Every reader is different so maybe others will do better than I did through the first ones. Slightly spice romantic suspense with a strong premise, family of brothers, and strong ladies are what is on offer.
I rec'd this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
2.5 stars I received a free ARC from the publisher.
Broken Promise ended this series with some excitement, and I enjoyed it. I never felt fully involved, though, and I think that's partly because the pace was very slow in places. Also, there were quite a bit of grammatical errors that made my reading flow difficult. Hopefully those errors will not be in the final version. I also think that this author's writing just doesn't really work for me - the story was good, as it was in the previous books as well - however, I didn't really feel the characters. And I also didn't really care very much for any of them.
The final book in the series is finally here and I couldn't be more happy about it. Finally, we get to see who the gentleman is and why he is killing people and is after the Benedict family. His mind is sick and I am surprised no one found out what a monster we truly was before his identity was revealed in this book. He went cuckoo a long time ago, but you will see more of that when he reveals everything in this book.
For most of this book, I was worried about Jade and her fate. I ended up liking her over the time and I didn't want her to be dead. I won't say what happens to her in the end and I will let you find out yourselves. I liked how the author connected her to some of the mysteries we need to solve. I know that she is a killer, but she was suffering under the thumb of a serial killer and she was raised to be the person we met for the first time. She realized that she was poisoned by the lies of the gentleman and tried to help in her own way.
For me, the author did a good job at tying most of the loose ends and wrapping the story in a beautiful bow. We solved a few mysteries such as the identity of the villain and the reasons why he started acting like the sick man he was and we got a sweet epilogue that ended the series on a happy note. Alyssa and Kipling might not have the best romance out of the four couples, but they worked together very well and I wanted them to end up together. It wasn't as strong as the other two novels, but it was mostly good stuff so I am recommending it.
My Review of “Broken Promise” by Tara Thomas, St. Martin’s Press June 26, 208
The Genres for “Broken Promise” by Tara Thomas are Fiction and Romantic Suspense. This is the third in the Sons of Broad Series. I would suggest that you read the other books, so that you understand this novel better.
The author describes her characters as complicated and complex. Charleston Police Officer Alyssa Adams has made a promise to protect women from harm. Alyssa has a dark secret that she is looking for answers and closure to. When Kipling Benedict realizes there is a kidnapping in his family he contacts Alyssa. The Benedict family has a powerful enemy, and they are yet to find out his true identity
Alyssa and Kipling have had an attraction for years, but now it seems that it has sparked. Will Alyssa and Kipling be able to find the kidnapper and give Alyssa her closure?
There is danger, and some twists and turns. This was a very fast read, but I wanted something more. Without giving any spoilers away, I will mention that I was disappointed with certain things. I would recommend this for readers of Romance and Suspense. I would also recommend that you read the other books.
Broken Promise by Tara Thomas is book three in the Sons of Broad series. This book does need to be read in order I feel to full enjoy this book and the series. With this book we continue the love story of Ashley and Kipling along with finding out who the 'Gentleman' was. This has been a good mystery series with a underlining romance story going on.
Broken Promise is book 3 in the Sons of Broad series by Tara Thomas, and it finally brings us the answers we've been waiting for from the start. The Benedict family and those close to them have been targeted and terrorized by the Mysterious "Gentleman" all through this series, with no clue as to why. Through a series of flashback information, we find out who The Gentleman is, and how he came to be what he is today.
Book 3 focuses on the eldest Benedict brother, Kipling and police office Alyssa Adams. We actually first met Alyssa in the three novellas that accompany this series, which is actually where we first met The Gentleman as well, and we met Kipling in book 1 of the series, Darkest Night. From the very beginning, Kipling and Alyssa have been doing this dance around each other. Kipling constantly teasing and throwing sexual innuendos at Alyssa, which she has been brushing off. She can't have anything to do with him, she's a police officer who arrested Kipling at one point in time during her investigation into events that have all been orchestrated by The Gentleman. But that part is behind them, and Kipling is determined to pursue something with the beautiful officer.
This book throws in a lot of twists and turns, Kipling and Alyssa being connected to all of the events happening in ways they never could have imagined. And slowly through the story, through the flashbacks we are given, we find out exactly how they and their families are involved in this huge tangled web The Gentleman has created.
I really enjoyed this third book the most in the series. I have enjoyed them all, but I think I liked this one the best because we get answers! We find out exactly how Jade, the mysterious girl who had been under the tutelage of The Gentleman, is connected to BOTH Alyssa and Kipling. The drama and suspense certainly ramped up to new levels in this installment. And the sexy times between Kipling and Alyssa were hot!!
I had been in a sort of reading rut prior to starting this series by Tara Thomas, and moving to this romantic suspense series was just what I needed to get out of that rut! I highly recommend it as a great series to get your feet wet with if you have not ventured into romantic suspense yet. And if you've started this series but have not read the three accompanying novellas that tell the story of Janey and Brent, I highly recommend reading them as well. Very enjoyable, all of the books have been! I am excited to see what Tara has in store for us next!
NetGalley and St. Martin's Press provided me an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
This was a thrilling conclusion to the Sons of Broad series! This is the third book of a romantic suspense trilogy focusing on the influential Benedict family. This book highlights Kipling, the oldest brother, and police officer Alyssa Adams, and their steamy relationship as they face the evil and mysterious adversary, The Gentleman.
I enjoyed the previous two books and recommend that this series be read in order because key information is revealed throughout the series as the mystery and suspense builds. This may be confusing to read as a standalone.

REVIEW: 3.75 stars--BROKEN PROMISE is the third full-length instalment in Tara Thomas’ contemporary, adult SONS OF BROAD romantic suspense series. This is Charleston Police Officer Alyssa Adams, and billionaire businessman Kipling Benedict’s story line. BROKEN PROMISE can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading the series in order for cohesion and backstory as there is a continuing premise and theme throughout.
Told from several third person points of view including Alyssa and Kipling BROKEN PROMISE follows the building but forbidden relationship between Charleston Police Officer Alyssa Adams, and billionaire Kipling Benedict. Weeks earlier Officer Adams arrested Kipling Benedict on suspicion of murder but in the ensuing time Alyssa is all too well aware that there is more going down than meets the eye. With the body count rising, and each successive murder linked back to the Benedict brothers and their significant others, Alyssa’s own family history begins to unravel as threats against our heroine finds Kipling and Alyssa working together to reveal the truth. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Alyssa and Kipling, as they are pulled into a game of cat and mouse wherein Alyssa and Kipling have been targeted by someone from the past.
BROKEN PROMISE is the culmination of several story lines including the original three-part serial that focused on deception and revenge; jealousy and envy. The Benedict brothers have been pulled into the ‘Gentleman’s’ game of vengeance, a game that involved murder, torture and the ultimate act of betrayal. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the characters are charismatic; the romance is passionate and fated. I did struggle with the slow progress of events throughout the story; I am hoping the author has plans for Jade.
This is the final book in the Sons of Broad, however when I requested this book I wasn't aware that this was book 3, so you will need to read the other books first, as I felt that I was missing a lot - and that is nobody's fault but my own.
I enjoyed the writing, the story flowed and was very action packed. I adored the relationship between the brothers (again though, I know I was missing so much) and love their commitment t0 family.
For me though, I just didn't feel the romantic connection between Alyssa and Kipling. Sure I felt friendship and love of sorts, but I didn't get the romantic thing - well, except for the lust. However this is probably just me.
I know this makes it sound that I didn't like this book, however that is not the case. I know that if I had read the previous 2 books and their noveallas I would have felt different about this book.
Don't make my mistake and not read the earlier books, and I am sure you will love it. I will be going back and reading the earlier entries in the series and will come back and reread this one again later, and am sure I will enjoy it more.
Again, nothing wrong with the writing or anything, this is all on me.
This is the third in the Sons of Broad Series by Tara Thomas. I received this book from Netgalley and after I started it, I knew I had to start from the beginning. I hunted down the first two and finished them before diving back into Broken Promise. I did not read any of the prequel novellas which may have been helpful for some more backstory. Each of the books in the series focuses on one of the Benedict brothers. In the last book we are introduced to Kipling. I had a feeling the older mature and seemingly playboy brother was more deep than he let's on. The romance begins between him and Alyssa, the police officer from the previous books. The romance isn't a surprise, there's a lot of playful banter and sexual innuendos from Kipling in the other books but the feelings behind them aren't introduced until this final installment. A lot of questions are answered in this one. We found out the who and why of the Gentleman which fills in a lot of blanks. I wonder if there's a novella from the POV of the Benedict's mom? That would be an interesting read.
I would definitely read the series in order, otherwise the finale built up in the first two is spoiled in book three. I liked Alyssa. She was a strong heroine but not perfect, you saw the flaws too. I do wonder, whatever happened to her partner from the first book? She originally has a partner, then he just stops coming and no more mention of him. Generally if a department runs two deep, they don't just stop. I also felt her decision to leave the department felt pretty rash. I definitely saw her leaving, but there wasn't much in the way of her decision, just that she made it. I will say each of these girls seem to come from a home with a rough father.
SPOILER ALERT!!! SPOILER ALERT!!!
The loose ends from the other books all seem to tie up at the end. Some questions I had with the ending is Kipling's injury. We aren't ever really told what happens with him, he seems alright, like he's faking but then ends up in a coma and needing physical therapy? For what?! Also, Jade seems to have no problem being shot since it's no longer mentioned again. The part with Tilly's dad is a bit confusing. It's talked about that he's a hindrance to the Gentleman, but then that's it. So did he plant the evidence? It wasn't very clear. And the decision he made for the Benedict parents was surprising, considering his motive behind it all.
In the end it was a good book, a good series and I am definitely interested in reading more from this author, and perhaps I'll check out the novellas as well.
Thanks for the opportunity!

I was waiting for Kipling’s story and wasn’t disappointed.
Kipling is the oldest Benedict brother and when you first read about him he seems really cold and distant but he is the opposite. In fact he is smart, sexy and generous. When he learns of Jade there is no anger towards her but wanting to know her. The only person that throws him is Alyssa. She is someone he is insanely attracted to and wants but doesn’t have. In this book, they are in a race of their lives. Trying to figure out who is after the Benedicts and why. But also trying to help Alyssa rest her demons and complete her promise made to her sister all those years ago.
Alyssa is the detective who has worked the Benedict’s cases from the beginning. She is sharp as a tack and has a tongue to go with it. She is kind and devoted as well. Her attraction to Kipling is one she fights at first due to him being a Benedict which has her coming off looking like an elitist but she isn’t. She is more afraid than anything else. After the fallout from her last relationship she is scared and less confident in herself in this arena.
Now they are together trying to solve murders and put a stop to the danger surrounding them and it is a wild ride.
The attraction and interaction between Alyssa and Kipling is sensual to say the least. Kipling banters in innuendo with her most of the time but has a healthy respect for her. He trusts her with him and his family’s lives which says a lot. He also is serious when needed with her. He takes her opinions very seriously and listens to her. Alyssa dishes out as much as she gets and it makes this a fun relationship to watch blossom. Their romance is a sensual balm that has you smile.
The story and how Alyssa’s past intertwines into the danger and who they are hunting is amazing. Well written, addictive and intriguing. I love where we see what drives the Gentleman and how deranged he really is. When it comes to a head wowza just wowza. And that ending so amazing. You see family and love shine through but the love for Kipling Alyssa has is just a beacon for him and beautiful.
A great story from start to finish that keeps you on your toes as Alyssa and Kipling play cat and mouse with the Gentleman as they find out who he is and work to bring him down and end it all while falling in love.
Broken Promise (Sons of Broad #3) by Tara Thomas 4.5 stars M/F Thriller, Romance Triggers: Kidnapping, Murder, Torture I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
This is the third book in the series and I would suggest that you read the previous books in the series or else you might feel lost. There is a lot that happens in them and you might not understand the whole plot without having read them.
Kipling was not my favorite character in the previous books. He seemed hard and without sympathy a lot of the time. I really wanted to see if he evolved in this book. Then you have Alyssa. She was a kick butt, take no prisoner police officer - she even put Kipling and his family under the microscope a few times. She has her own dark past and doesn't trust easily.
These two characters have been quasi-dancing around each other with a ton of tension for a few books. When it looks like Kipling is going to need Alyssa's help, both have to learn that sometimes, trusting someone is the only way forward.
Alyssa has a past that has driven her to become a police officer. She also has a family life that is less than ideal. When those two reasons collide, sparks will not only fly, alliances will change and her childhood will make so much more sense!
Kipling is struggling with the revelation from the previous book. When someone he cares about is in danger, he will enlist Alyssa to help him figure out why this has been happening and who is behind it.
There is a lot that happens in this story - it's fast paced, but the love story is more back burner, which I appreciated. With the mystery so complex, it is a great guessing game until the end.
I ended up really liking this story and even though Kipling still isn't my favorite character, he definitely grew on me. I hope there are more stories to come!
This is the third book in the Sons of Broad series, and I enjoyed Broken Promise a great deal. I had eagerly waited for this conclusion of this series. I received a digital ARC from the publisher, via Net Galley, with the promise to read and review in advance of publication. My opinions are my own and are not influenced by that fact.
Broken Promise is a fast-paced, exciting read. While it doesn’t meet the traditional criteria for a romance, it definitely does as a thriller. I totally enjoyed the plot and the building of tension. The story pulled me in from the start.
I met Alyssa if the previous books and enjoyed her character quite a lot. In this book, her character becomes fully developed, and I fell in love with her. She is so dedicated to finding “The Gentleman” to the extent she puts her life in jeopardy in a big way.
I also met Kipling in the other books in this series. I really loved his character. He is willing to do whatever it takes to save his half-sister, especially after his actions in the previous book. I could really feel is anguish over his actions and his desire to right his wrongs. Ms. Thomas does a great job of redeeming his character and giving me the reasons behind his previous decisions.
The romance between Alyssa and Kipling is blazing hot and I could really see why they are attracted to each other. The emotions are strong and when they come together it’s amazing. I truly wanted them to find their well-deserved happy ending.
If you enjoy a book with plenty of action and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then you will love Broken Promise as much as I did. You will want to read the other books in this series first to really appreciate the diabolical, evil villain! But never fear, they will definitely be worth your time. The first two books are awesome as well. Happy reading!
Broken Promise by Tara Thomas is Sons of Broad #3. This story picks up where the past two books left off and they really should be read first. Knowing that it is no surprise that this is Kipling Benedict and Officer Alyssa Adams story. This has been a long time coming with hints throughout the previous books. The witty banter and battles between Alyssa and Kipling continue but more has developed between them. We get more of Alyssa's story as we continue to find out about the Benedicts, Jade, and The Gentleman.
I liked that Broken Promise had a nice balance. We got the relationship building between Kipling and Alyssa, and we got the continued story arc into all the unanswered questions that have haunted throughout. Alyssa remains her tough self, even as we peel back her layers and reveal emotions and complications. Ms. Thomas does not disappoint in this conclusion and this book was not rushed and even though there were answers that we have been made to wait for since book one, this was the right book for the reveals.
Overall I very much enjoyed Broken Promise by Tara Thomas and felt the book brought things full circle in a satisfying way. The Sons of Broad series has been fun, with twists and turns, great characters and amazing romances.
(I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book I received for free from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my open and honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.)
Broken Promise by Tara Thomas is the third and final book in the romantic suspense Sons of Broad Trilogy set in Charleston, South Carolina. This book highlights Kipling, the oldest brother, and police detective Alyssa Adams. They have history, not really that pleasant history, but there is an undeniable attraction as well. Alyssa is the only one he can turn to when his half-sister is kidnapped. What follows is another gritty, suspenseful, fast-paced story in a gritty, suspenseful, fast-paced series. "The Gentleman," who has been targeting and terrorizing the Benedict family for so long, is back, as evil as ever. Charleston is back, too. You feel as if you are there, enveloped in the atmosphere.
As the eldest of the Benedict brothers, Kipling will stop at nothing to protect his family from a threat that aims to destroy them once and for all. Broken Promise is a well-written, fast-paced book with lots of twists and turns. Even if you haven’t read the first two books in the series, the flashbacks Tara Thomas provides are enough to help you understand, and feel, the danger. I recommend you read the entire series to fully enjoy and appreciate all the backstory and the tales of the other brothers, but Broken Promise ably stands on its own, with good character development and well-thought out plot and scenes. And while this story focuses on Kipling and Alyssa and the current danger, it answers all your questions about “The Gentleman” and very nicely wraps up all the storylines.
I enjoyed Broken Promise. The atmosphere is lush, the danger seems real, and the attraction between Kipling and Alyssa is steamy. But the best thing, the thread that runs throughout the entire series, is family – just how important family, and those brought into the family circle – is and what lengths they will go to to protect and care for each other.
Note I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
This is the final book in this series of full length and novellas and definitely is NOT a standalone. The author does a good job of tying together the trailing strings from the series and we find out the identity of The Guardian and the back story of how and why everything came about. This story pairs up the oldest Benedict son, Kipling, and even though in the previous stories he has been brash and hard to get to know he has a playful side and Alyssa brings that out in him. Alyssa has been pursuing a serial killer and as a police officer has even arrested Kipling. There have always been underlying chemistry between these two but when they finally give in, all bets are off. This has been a fun and riveting series and I am sad to see it end. I definitely recommend this one.

4 Star Review Broken Promise (Sons of Broad #3) by Tara Thomas
Tara Thomas is a new author to me. I had no idea going into reading Broken Promise that this was book three and the final book in the trilogy. I do believe that this is a series that needs to be read in order as I was a lost whilst reading, not knowing the back story that had occurred in books 1 and 2.
I really liked the characters of Alyssa Adams and Kipling Benedict. Running for their lives, whilst trying to track down a missing sibling and a killer bent on revenge, Alyssa and Kipling are drawn together more and more. The chemistry between the two was strong and sizzled.
There was certainly intrigue, mystery and suspense and I found the writing to be solid. The characters were likeable and the storyline was gripping.
This is the third and final book in the Sons of Broad series and the conclusion to the mystery that has been building throughout the entire series. The author does a good job of getting us up to date but I do recommend you read these books in order to get the full effect of the mystery build up. The identity of "The Gentleman" is finally revealed as is his motivating factors for the things he does. Jade's circumstances are also fully explained so everything gets wrapped up nicely. We also get caught up on all our favorite characters from the previous books. This is definitely a book and series I recommend.
I read the first book in this series, not the second yet so going into the third was a little bit of a leap, but not so confusing that I was lost because I wasn't. This last book was such a great suspense romance hot, tense and twisty just the way I like them. I enjoyed the writing and characters, with lots of action and adventure and it definitely makes me want to read book#2 even though I might already know the answers.

This book was a heart-pounding, action-packed, wild ride. Broken Promise is the first book I've read by Tara Thomas. I really liked the way it flowed, and getting flashbacks into the bad guy's past. My only negative was that I did not realize this was part of a series when I started to read it. I did feel confused a couple times, but mostly was able to read it as a stand alone. I did like it enough to want to read the other books and more from her in the future. It also is a love story, which is always key for me. I love the love!
This is the final installment of the Sons of Broad series and in my opinion probably the best of the series. All of the books featured their own couple as the main characters and each couple faced danger in that book. While we knew that the danger was being inflicted by the "Gentleman," it isn't until this book that his identity and motive are revealed. Plus we finally see Alyssa and Kipling act on their mutual attraction that was evident in all of the other books. While I did like this book the most in the series, I think the books are best read as a series and in order to get the most out of the story line.
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) I have to say that this book was my favorite of the bunch, we finally finally got some answers. And while I had wondered about this character before, since it was barely mentioned I discarded this individual. What I liked about this book, was the going into the past and why this person did what they did. And I am glad that we got an HEA and everyone and everything was tied neatly in a knot..
Although this is the 3rd book of the series I was able to understand the story. I really liked this story and thought the author did a fantastic job. The interesting part in the story was how Kipling and Alyssa were able to work together and finding a common ground on solving who was behind the killings. Sometimes I love to see a happy endings. Now I have to go back and read the others. Thanks to the publishing company for netgalley-ARC copy for my honest opinion.
