Linx & Bogie #2

A Bogie in the Boat

Rate this book
You know what doesn’t go down well with morning coffee? A body in a canal. But when a neighbor finds a grim discovery in the waterways of Venice Beach, Linx Maxwell gets an unexpected visitor in the form of a new ghost. The only problem? Her new ghost doesn’t see eye to eye with her old one.

Detective Frank Bogle didn’t know what to make of the young victim. Haunting Linx was his job, and he didn’t want company. All the same, he could hardly deny the excitement of an unsolved murder intrigued him. The new ghost claimed that he’d been murdered and the trail leads right to the home of Linx’s new client.

Two ghosts? One was bad enough! Linx will do anything to get rid of the unwelcome company, including snooping around a tech millionaire’s house, posing as the victim’s girlfriend, and catching the attention of the very handsome—and very alive—Detective Lee.

A Bogie in the Boat is a paranormal mystery novella in the Linx & Bogie series by Elizabeth Hunter.

A Bogie in the Boat by Elizabeth Hunter
2nd book in the Linx & Bogie series. Paranormal mystery. Can be read as a stand-alone.
A new ghost appears to Linx when a body shows up in the nearby canal. Frank’s not happy with the company of an extra ghost but helping to solve his murder might be worth his time. The trail leads to the home where Linx is painting a mural and the danger mounts as she plays detective.

An entertaining mystery other than Linx being a little naive in her investigation. The addition of Detective Lee adds a potential love interest in future books in this series.

I love these characters and want to see more of them all! Linx is just fantastic and I can totally imagine hanging out with her and her ghostly friend. Bogie is just a touch of noir for me, or that is how I see him, a bit of Sam Spade in transparent form. The stories are light with enough dark to keep it fresh and fun.

Once again Linx gets pulled into an investigation that she was not looking for. She also gets something she never wanted and something she might have wanted but would not try to get. When a body is found by a neighbor in their back yard, Linx ends up involved even though she would much rather not be.

I want more from this and hope that it will be coming in the future.

I'm loving Linx and Bogie! After reading the first book in the series earlier this year, I knew I was going to need to read book 2. As with book 1, there was no romance in the story but there was a slight indication that there "may" be some coming down the road if we get another book in the series.

Honestly, I liked this one better than the first one. It starts off with Linx getting a second ghost named Vincent. She wanted to get the case solved fast to get her second ghost unattached. This led her down a scary path. She took work for Leo to paint a moral in the library. After accidentally going into Leo's bathroom in his bathroom, she got concerned. She was pretty sure he was the killer. She went there to "finish" the morale and got attacked by Leo. She was saved by Frank and Chris. Leo gets arrested, and Chris and Linx seem to be getting to know each other.

Nice

This story was originally published in instalments in the author's newsletter. Now it is out as a novella including a brand new epilogue.
All the females in Linx's family have various levels of mediumship abilities. Linx has kept company with the spirit of Detective Frank Bogle (Bogie) since she was thirteen.
But she never saw another ghost till her neighbour showed her a dead body behind her house.
Now Linx and Bogie are on the trail of a murderer and so is Detective Sexy.

Audiobook Review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5

This second audiobook in the Linx & Bogie series was just a good as the first. Once again, Melissa Moran did a great job performing the audiobook. Linx now has two ghosts hanging around her and Bogie wants to help solve the mystery surrounding the new ghost. There’s a little more romance in this story as Linx and Detective Lee kind of dance around each other. This was really a delightful book to listen to. I wish there were more books available in this series.

Sensational!

‘A Bogie in the Boat: A Linx & Bogie Story,’ was wildly entertaining. This is the second story to this series and the storyline and characters are brilliantly written! The dialogue is witty and fun, the story endearing, captivating, and suspenseful. Our two main characters, Linx and Frank, stumble upon a murder mystery, when a neighbor comes calling on her Nan. And Linx and Frank, find themselves with another Bogie and a case to solve...

I really enjoy the Bogie and Linx stories!! Having Detective Lee enter the story has great possibilities for the expansion of Linx's ability to help solve mysteries. (With Bogie's help, too, of course!) I would love to see this series grow into novels. If not, I'll keep reading the short stories!

Second time: 10.17.2020 / Hoopla Audio

I want more Linx and Bogie stories!!! Come on E.H....give us more!

I love historical events like this.
Boats and historical events are what make me love reading. Could you please share the sequel books of your series?

In fact, even though I started reading very late, I'm getting more and more immersed every day.

It is a great chance to read the books of important authors. I know that. I'm looking forward to your new books.

I am writing the importance of reading a book here for friends who want to read this book. I hope it will benefit sellers and customers...

Are the top 10 benefits of reading for all ages:

1. Reading Exercises the Brain

While reading, we have to remember different characters and settings that belong to a given story. Even if you enjoy reading a book in one sitting, you have to remember the details throughout the time you take to read the book. Therefore, reading is a workout for your brain that improves memory function.

2. Reading is a Form of (free) Entertainment

Did you know that most of the popular TV shows and movies are based on books? So why not indulge in the original form of entertainment by immersing yourself in reading. Most importantly, it’s free with your Markham Public Library card.

3. Reading Improves Concentration and the Ability to Focus

We can all agree that reading cannot happen without focus and in order to fully understand the story, we have to concentrate on each page that we read. In a world where gadgets are only getting faster and shortening our attention span, we need to constantly practice concentration and focus. Reading is one of the few activities that requires your undivided attention, therefore, improving your ability to concentrate.

4. Reading Improves Literacy

Have you ever read a book where you came across an unfamiliar word? Books have the power to improve your vocabulary by introducing you to new words. The more you read, the more your vocabulary grows, along with your ability to effectively communicate. Additionally, reading improves writing skills by helping the reader understand and learn different writing styles.

5. Reading Improves Sleep

By creating a bedtime routine that includes reading, you can signal to your body that it is time to sleep. Now, more than ever, we rely on increased screen time to get through the day. Therefore, by setting your phone aside and picking up a book, you are telling your brain that it is time to quiet down. Moreover, since reading helps you de-stress, doing so right before bed helps calm your mind and anxiety and improve the quality of sleep.

6. Reading Increases General Knowledge

Books are always filled with fun and interesting facts. Whether you read fiction or non-fictions, books have the ability to provide us with information we would’ve otherwise not known. Reading a variety of topics can make you a more knowledgeable person, in turn improving your conversation skills.

7. Reading is Motivational

By reading books about protagonists who have overcome challenges, we are oftentimes encouraged to do the same. The right book can motivate you to never give up and stay positive, regardless of whether it’s a romance novel or a self-help book.

Comics, Collectables, and a Cold Killer!

Elizabeth Hunter is one of my favourite authors. I love her writing style and her stories tick all the boxes for me. They have an intelligent writing style that’s easy to read. Protagonists with personality traits that feel credible. A range of supporting characters that earn their place in the story. Plots and settings that feel believable – even when based in a paranormal world. And finally, a balanced mix of relationship, tension, action, humour and mystery in the plotline.

A Bogie in the Boat had all the elements that I look for in an engaging story.
Linx is a young woman and a great character. She’s already exhibited many of the personality traits that I love; resilience, humour and self-reliance. Being born into a family of mediums has its own list of pros and cons but I loved how Linx handled the situations life threw at her. Bogie is also quite the character.

I truly love this little world that Elizabeth has created. I don't usually enjoy the traditional "ghost" stories, but there is nothing traditional about The Bogie and the Boat. It is funny characters, one sexy cop, and a real murder to solve. Linx isn't like any other character I have read, and I adore that about her. She has an edge all her own, and definitely marches to the beat of her own drum....and she nails it. This is the same story that was sent out in the newsletter, but with a bonus scene at the end that my favorite detective had a part of. I am keeping buy fingers crossed that we will get a glimpse of Linx, Bogie and Detective Sexy again in the future, and get to see what may become of them!

Linx and Bogie are proof positive that a book doesn't need romance to grab a reader's attention. Linx is now a little older, a bit smarter and adulting in the world. When a neighbor comes over with talk of a body in her grandson's boat: Linx can't ignore her.

Under the direction of the great detective ghost, Frank Bogle; Linx has a new mission to solve a murder. She will have a little more help in the way of Vincent. His body might be lying in the boat but his ghost is standing next to Linx. Hold on to your hat as Linx puts herself in danger and flirts with Detective Lee. Oh the possibilities....

A new ghost, a new mystery and a new man take the stage in the second installment of the Linx & Bogie series. Linx, with some help from Bogie, Raul and Nan, attempts to solve a mystery surrounding murder and a set of missing baseball cards; even getting some help from Chris Lee, a sexy-serious police detective.

Looks like there may be more mystery and mayhem on the way for Linx and Bogie. We even get some hints at what appears to be an emerging ghostly superpower triggered by strong emo. A very specific emo. Maybe even emo for one person in particular? Hmmm....

I really like Linx and Bogie, their stories are always fun and different from the paranormal that I usually am reading. Unfortunately I wish there was more suspected people to look into over just the client. Or I wish we got to know more about his creepy side. And it may have felt like it was fast because I read the book really fast for my normal. I still really enjoyed the book I just want more because I can never get enough of Linx and Bogie’s adventures. Overall this is a fun, quick read, and a good story and I can’t wait for more.

Linx&Bogie2 4.5 ⭐️

I had seen parts of this offering before in newsletters, but it was still fun to see where EH went with it. I loved that in her larger life Linx has successfully made a life and reputation as a muralist. That she is so socially adept is really interesting, because the bullying that characterized her middle and high school years could have made her stunted emotionally.
That was handled without fanfare, by the author and that matter of fact manner, let us concentrate on Linx’s unusual nuances.

Another enjoyable story with Linx and Det. Frank Bogle, ghost of the 1950's. Linx and Frank are drawn to a dead body and now Linx has 2 ghosts tagging along which is 1 ghost too many. Enter sexy Det. Chris Lee to complicate the mystery and it's another fun mystery to solve. I adore Linx's bf Raul, who ends up finding out Linx sees ghosts. They have a bit of spat, and with family help, the make up and vow to never to discuss again. So cute. Anyway, I hope to get more from Linx and Frank. Highly recommend Audio

Who Killed the Ghost?

The narrator did a fantastic job with the character's voices and personalities. I was completely captivated throughout the story, except for Linx running around the storage facility and her client's (Creepy Leo) home without a care for cameras or alarms. The creepy dude is a millionaire with house alarms. So you would expect some high-end security. Other than that. I loved the story. I especially enjoyed the addition of Detective Sexy (Detective Christopher Lee).

A satisfying mystery!

Once again Elizabeth Hunter manages to fit a full plot into a novella (or whatever this officially is). Its fun to watch Linx adjust to having a second ghost attached to her when she's only ever had contact with one ghost before (Bogie, the detective ghost we know from book one). Bogie is happy to have a mystery to solve, even though he worries about Linx's safety. It's a fun read.

So good!

First of all, Linx and Bogie, are funny, around the bend interesting, and original:) The story line is interesting and well developed, the relationships, both old and new, are quirky and lively. I am pretty well addicted to this series. No doubt in my mind that anyone picking this story will be as enchanted as I.

Fabulous read, definitely need more!

I absolutely love Linx and Bogie and don’t know why it took me so long to read it as I have read everything else by Elizabeth Hunter. I hope she writes more in this world as I want to keep following Linx’s life and adventures, see what happens with Detective Sexy and see all the good things happen!

Linx and Frank solve another murder

I really enjoyed this mystery and I love the characters. The bad guy came across as very creepy and not all there, and the new detective came across as very smart and the perfect boyfriend for her. I hope there are more stories with Linx, her ghost Frank and the rest of her family.

Is there anything better than finding a book on your shelf that you haven't read (even though you're sure you did) by your favorite author? This is a fun short story with vivid characters, a murder mystery and a sexy detective! Everyone should read this, even if its just to giggle at the "passive aggressive flirting"!

I love the premise of this series--a hard-boiled detective ghost haunts an artsy millennial and urges her to be an amateur detective. This story lived up to my expectations, with great voice and characterization in a fairly straightforward murder mystery.

Loved this shorter story! Ms. Hunter combines sharp dialogue, fast-paced story telling, and a romance that satisfies without sex. I found all of the story elements highly satisfying, the characters well-defined (and happily quirky), and the violence brief.
