The Zee Brothers: Zombie School … Grivante
Oh what fun to read a Zee brothers tale. Zee Brothers book. Since reading this book, I went ahead and purchased the short stories and the other ebook. Oh what fun. The concept of Xanadu is hilarious. Judas & Jonah are the Zee Brothers and their friend and sidekick is an ill-tempered, insecure and abrasive female named JJ.JJ is the owner of the dog Xanadu, who is quite the little character all on his own with an amazing talent. This is not you normal Zombie Hunting team, they are tongue in cheek, slap stix funny. In this story the Zombie Exterminators are called out to the Savini Charter School, by the time they arrive on site things have gotten a little out of hand. With their gear left in the truck, (No guns and such allowed in schools.)they need to make due with what they can find. This outbreak started with one boy not feeling well and quickly escalated to involved other a few of the first being the Principle and his mistress. I found several of the kids and support staff entertaining as well as the Zee brothers themselves. If you want a funny quick read I suggest you pick up one or all of Grivante’s books.
The Zee Brothers: Zombie Exterminators (Volume 1 & 2 Box Set) by Grivante and narrated by Ian McEuen is a must listen/read for any zombie lover. I listened to this straight through and honestly, it made my day. There’s an amusement to it reminiscent of Ash vs Evil Dead mixed with Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (and maybe a hint of The Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse).
Some things to expect: a variety of stories that revolve around the Zee brothers and their zombie service, humor, death (nobody is off limits), a variety of characters, references to other Z shows/movies, and a bit of romance (for lack of better word).
The narrator, Ian McEuen, did a good job. Sounds like he had fun with this one. I have not listened to him before, but would try another book narrated by him.
I do not want to say too much due to spoilers, so I’ll leave it at if you are a zombie fan, you MUST check out this book.
Parental guidance/trigger warnings: This is a book for adults/older teens. There is swearing, sex, killing, or like things throughout. If you are easily offended or prude, this is probably not the book for you.
*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!
Volume 1 - Zombie Omelet Bert, from Pest Be Gone, left the crawl space access door open after his inspection and now there’s a zombie infestation to clean up at Winter Oaks complex. The Zee boys to the rescue! Volume 2 - Zombie School Lockdown The young lad Tommy Tucker wasn’t feeling well and was sent to the nurse’s office at the Sevigny Charter School. Secretary Bobbie comforted Tommy as nurse Janet was absent. Little girl Wendy was sent to the nurse’s office and saw Tommy sleeping. She couldn’t resist poking him. Janet, the nurse came to check on Tommy, found Wendy as well, and bandaged her bleeding finger. Unfortunately for Principle Hotchkins, Bobbie was servicing him when she turned. Ouch! As they say, one thing led to another; Tommy to Bobbie to Wendy to Principle Hotchkins, which led to the Zee boys being called to stop an outbreak. I was wondering, why did they have Larry strung up? Anyway, the two tales are a fun romp through the zombie universe. Enjoyment to be had by all.
Very tongue in cheek, zombie series about two brothers who after working as pest exterminators become zombie exterminators through a series of mishaps. In this box set, I listened to books 1&2. I found the voices a little out of sync with the covers as well as JJ's voice being a little annoying. This series as very cliched zombie instances and doesn't take itself very seriously. These two deal with a gated community built on a graveyard and a school exposed to an "accidental" outbreak. Apparently in this time zombie outbreaks are not uncommon. I enjoyed he story more than the performance. Xanadu the dog is an hysterical addition to the trio, though I won't sat his addition. I received the audiobook free and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
( Format : Audiobook ) "Can I get a bang bang for my boo boo? " Gross, gory and gloriously funny. Meet the Zee Bothers, Jonah and Judas, and their girlfriend J.J. plus the remarkable dog, Xanadu. The Zombie Exterminators - think Ghost Hunters with extra crazy. The brothers are constantly quarreling. The enraged zombies come thick and fast. The narration, complete with extraordinary voices, is excellent - what's not to enjoy. My only complaint? I was so absorbed, the reading time rushed past and all too quickly it was over.
My thanks to the rights holder who, at my request, gifted me with a complimentary copy, via FAFY. Thank you so much for those fun filled hours.
My review is based on the audiobook. This Box Set contains 2 different stories that can be read as standalones but to get the full effect I recommend reading them in order. The Zee brothers and JJ are fantastic characters and don't get me started on how amazing Xanadu is!!! The humor, action and pop culture references make these stories extremely enjoyable. The narrator is perfect at bringing story and characters to life with distinct and easy to understand voices. I look forward to more in this series!!
These books were funny and weird. I liked them for the most part. The characters were rather cookie-cutter but ridiculously fun overall. This was the type of book that makes me appreciate the diversity of the horror genre and the various takes on it. I read a lot of horror that takes itself incredibly serious and tries to terrorize the reader in-between reading sessions. This is not that kind of book. It knows it is not serious and it grabs hold of that stance with both hands and rides that pony to the finish line.
Both book 1&2 was absolutely amazing and funny!! For zombie exterminator's they don't do very good job of maybe they do lol. Still confused by jj dog that's just one weird pup that's for sure.
Fast paced, funny set of stories about two brothers who run a zombie extermination company. The brothers are goofy, gun toting, hillbillies who share a girlfriend who has a magical dog named Xanadu. The stories are a bit off the wall but gory and entertaining all the same. The narrator did a great job portraying the characters and drawing out their personalities. He really brought the story to life and made it a fun listen. I’d definitely continue this series on audiobook. This two book set was a quick, fun read. If you’re into zombie books with a comedic edge this would be a good choice. Solid 3 stars.
