Anastasia Lintel never wanted for more than a simple existence, arranging flowers in her father's shop, catering to the soft-palmed elite. However, when tragedy strikes, taking with it the only family she has ever known, Anastasia must adapt to an unexpected new life.
Decreed missive in hand, Nathaniel Fitzpatrick, Duke of Avondale, descends on Anastasia's flower shop like an invading storm, removing her from her ordinary world with little explanation and thrusting her into his extravagant life.
Anastasia quickly realizes the Duke is the least of her troubles when she meets his four scandalous brothers. Each sibling is rivaling in intensity, physical prowess, and the unrelenting quest to see her gone, but none is as dangerous as their leader, Clinton Fitzpatrick.
Anastasia's litany of questions regarding The Duke's guardianship over her will have to wait while she tries to figure out how to manage her new role and the tormenting Lords that come with it.
With their wealth, power and mystery, these Lords set a stage that is far from ordinary. Will Anastasia be able to survive them until she turns one-and-twenty, or gets married, whichever comes first? Or will she lose herself in their glittering world that is anything but what it seems...
Stacy Von Haegert is the International Bestselling Author of two genres: Historical Romance (the White Rose trilogy, and Lords), and Dark-Fantasy Romance (Forged)
Stacy lives in historic downtown Franklin TN with her hubby, son, calico cat, and Belgian Tervuren, where she writes by day and teaches ballroom dance in the evenings. She is obsessed with old houses, good literature, and boogie boarding.
Lords Is a historical romance, I’m not a history buff so if accuracy is your thing I can’t say if it’s accurate or not. Regardless Stacy writes a bunch of well developed first and secondary characters that you can’t help but love. Lords has a perfect flow to keep you glued to the pages. And like I said it’s a romance so warn your heart and body things get hot and swoony at times. Then mix in danger to keep you on your toes. This is a HEA!
It starts when a young Lady is put in a position and house she doesn’t want to be in, and for unknown reasons. Even better she’s now living with a family of guys that woman all want. Although to a lady the house seems more like a cave full of animals. It’s likely she will either be running for the hills or spit out soon enough. If only there was a gentleman hiding in the pack... Since there seems to be as much danger outside as in, what can a female do but save herself. First things first, to do that some questions need to be answered. Or should step one be befriending the enemy. Little did she know that finding answers is on top of everyone’s list, and some think she has them.
Well, I can't say for sure what this is, but it is NOT a historical novel. Fantasy/ alternate universe historical maybe? And this is NOT enemies to lovers it is a bullying story, with lots of irrational, idiotic behaviors of protagonists and side characters.
The cover is basic but delivers a message and secret about what you may read. When I read the blurb I knew it would be an adventure I wanted to be in. Before you even finish with the first chapter the author has entangled you in her historical romance. The writing style was smooth and fluent so as a reader you wouldn’t be bored or confused on what was happening with the story. You can tell as you progress through the novel the author has taken great pride and did her research because it fits perfectly within the time period that the story happened. In honesty there were times where the author fed you breadcrumbs in the middle at the perfect time so you questioned what was going on but still may not have figured it out. As the story unfolds so does secrets well kept. The authors description of not just the characters but also of the people were described so if you closed your eyes you knew what, where, and who at any given time. I loved Anastasia because she was feisty and not one to kneel down when put to the test. Her force is one to be reckoned with by any man or in this case a houseful of them. As much as I just want to go into detail about everything I will not ruin it for others.
I will definitely want to read more from this author especially if all her other work pulls you in to continue reading such as this one did. I will close with this if you have not picked this gem up you need to grab it now. I promise you will not be disappointed.

I had to skim most of the book. The only reason I finished it was because I didn’t have anything else to read right now. I hate insta love. This one was one of the worst I’ve read in that regard. It discredits all of the “romance” because the insta love is so unbelievable.
One big thing that almost made me stop reading was that this book doesn’t feel like a romance. Maybe toward the end but for the most part it didn’t at all. I hate when the first kiss between the love interests comes completely out of nowhere, for zero reason with zero build up and is basically assault as Clinton accosts Anastasia without consent and didn’t do it out of love or anything. They’ve had a handful of very brief, forgettable conversations by this point. So they barely know each other. So that means him assaulting her was based on looks alone. Which is so lazy to me. And weird. I don’t know what would compel an author to call her book a romance and then completely bypass what should be the most special, anticipated moment for the characters. Where is the build up, the tension, the wanting, the love? Getting to know each other and slowly falling? Clinton has been nothing but weird and aloof towards Anastasia. And when he accosts her he gets all smug when she objects to him kissing her claiming she’d be wanting him soon enough. Ew. That turned me so off that I did not want to read about him anymore.
I also didn’t really care for Anastasia either. She was okay but she had one personality trait and that was anger. She was either bland or angry. She was constantly getting mad. And yeah the brothers were gross and were jerks, always trying to make her mad so that didn’t help. And it got repetitive. Sometimes I was hoping she’d react in a different way, just to mix things up. The most personality she showed was where I almost stopped, which was while she was having a riding lesson. I thought, okay now she’s showing some kind of variety and being more interesting. But then the whole thing happened with Clinton so it sort of ruined it.
At first clinton came off as a smug, cocky, gods gift type personality. Someone who thinks all women want him. I don’t like this type of guy. He became a totally different person by the end of the book, and not in a way that made it feel like he had just grown or had a natural transformation. He felt like two totally different characters based on what the author wanted out of him. The author was pretty clunky with his personality.
The story itself was fairly boring. I did want to see how Anastasia and Clinton would get together. That’s why I didn’t care to read anymore when he just kissed her out of nowhere. And then basically the next interaction they have he declares his love for her. LOVE!! Asking to marry her. They’ve literally been in each others presence for a total of like an hour I think. They’ve had like 4-5 very brief conversations. Can you get any more thoughtless and unimaginative with a romance? No you can’t. Why write a romance if the romance consists of falling in deep love for zero reason. If a guy did to me what Clinton did to Anastasia, I would be instantly suspicious thinking he was obviously trying to trick me somehow. It felt so fake.
Also the brothers are gross, sex addicts who can’t get enough depravity. Like one time Anastasia is walking past one of the brothers rooms and he has the door open while he’s having sex, so she can walk by and see him. I mean, a man purposely trying to expose himself in front of an innocent woman is not really the type of characters I want to read about unless they are the villains. Which these men arent the villains. Just “bad boys”. But these guys’ behavior goes beyond bad boys and into sexual harassment/assault. If the author is desperate for us to know that this is a sex book there’s better ways she could go about it.
I was once walking through the parking lot to my work and some disgusting man exposed himself to me in broad daylight. I was repulsed and my boss was so mad and he called the cops. Another time my mom was shopping and a man wearing extremely short shorts squatted down next to her in a way and pulled his shorts up so his wiener would come out so she would see it. These things happen to women all the time and are disgusting and I just can’t believe a woman would write her main characters to be these gross men that sexually assault women and then call them the good guys. Or excuse this behavior because they just didn’t like Anastasia.
Also another example of how gross these men are, Clinton makes a comment that when he was saving Anastasia’s life he was so turned on by her wet body that he had to leave to go masterbate. So like can they literally not think of anything else than having sex with anyone and everyone in any situation? I mean Clinton should have been so worried about her life that the last thing on his mind was doing her. But no. It wasn’t. I’m just grossed out.
Overall I just didn’t like a lot of aspects of this book.
This was a good read. It started off a little slow but I was very captivated by the characters. Anastasia is a shopkeepers daughters who loves flowers and the people in her little town. Her father is killed in an accident, and to her surprise a stranger is taking her away has her new guardian. Nathaniel Fitzpatrick is a Lord and is Ana’s new guardian, and she is not happy with it. She is moving into a castle with him and his four brothers. And he is passing her off as a long lost cousin. These four men want nothing to do with her, because they fee she is just after money and a title. When Ana proves she is not what they think, one of the brothers starts to fall in love with her. Clinton the leader of the four wants to protect, but the brothers fill that she has cast a spell on him. When Ana finds out what they are doing, with helping slaves and young girls being held against their will, she puts herself in danger with her friend Elizabeth. Nathaniel sends for Anastasia one day to introduce her to her real birth father, the Kings beloved son. Ana is shocked and can’t trust what is being told to her. She devices a plan to meet her grandfather the King with the help of her aunt and friend Franchesca. The King sees Ana and instantly knows that she is is relation. At the ball Is when all the men that have been smuggling slaves in are killed and justice is served. Her father is killed also being part of this ring. Ana and Clinton are in love and want to marry. I really enjoyed this book. It takes a lot of twists and turns, but if you keep up with everything that’s going on, you will enjoy the story.
A perfect love story by an author that has the talent to weave an unforgettable tale. It was so good that I’m looking forward to book 2 in the series. I absolutely not only fell in love with the two main characters but his whole family. All his brothers need a book as I would love to read their stories. Well done!
Really surprised at all the 4- and 5- star ratings. Very light on history for a “historical romance.” Not quite sure exactly what period it’s supposed to be and works better as a fantasy set in an indeterminate time. Didn’t quite believe the characters and never could really tell all the brothers apart. The love story seemed to come out of nowhere and side plots were slapdash and not believable.
What happens when A family of Rake-shell brothers inherit an innocent girl? Lords is a book full of intriguing twists and plots. At first I was not sure I liked the brothers of the Duke of Avolon, but as the story unfolds, I fell for each of them and so did our heroine, Anastasia. Clinton is a true hero and I love them as a couple. I hope each of the brothers as well as the Duke get a story!
So let's talk about this book and how it came to be for me. So this book comes into my feed and I am talking about the kindle cover edition. I dismiss it as a MC/Mafia romance. But the cover haunts me, so the next day I come back to it and take a closer look and realize that the guy in the cover is wearing a neckcloth. Mind you, with the stylized Lords on the cover that alone didn't tell me what timeframe or genre I was looking at, but the neckcloth did. So then I went and looked the blurb and again dismissed it as now a reverse harem and clicked away, as not interested. But the cover continued to haunt me, even when I wasn't on GRs, So I decide the next day to look at reviews, because I looked at the blurb again and yes there were five men and yes the setup screamed haram, but the blurb didn't say that and usually that is very clear. The reviews also didn't say anything about that, so I added it to my wishlist because the price for ebook, not for me. Then I continued to check it every couple of days to see if the price changed...it did not. Then the Patron Saint of Readers, St. Libre smiled upon me and let me be gifted with a gift card and so I was able to buy the paperback edition of the book. It has a nice cover, but it doesn't haunt me. :-) (I totally made the saint up, don't tell my Catholic husband, as I probably just broke eleventy of their rules.
Back to the book, it was good, but if you're a stickler for historical accuracy this book will frustrate you in many ways. However if you are willing to suspend belief that a 19 year old young woman can come from flower shop beginnings and end up with a Duke and 5 brothers and still keep her reputation, then this book might work for you. There is a story to it all, but I am not going to spoil it. The story is told from Anna's POV and it makes it very frustrating understanding where Clinton (our love interest) is coming from and what he is thinking. There are so many SECRETS and we were in the dark with Anna trying to navigate why these dudes were so gosh darn angry ALL THE TIME.
I am assuming that at some point the author intends/intended to write a book about each brother, but there isn't a sequel so far and this was wrote back in 2017. But if there was ever a book that needed to be written that would be Nicholas's (the Duke's book). Anyway, did the book live up to the haunting cover, no, but was it worth the read, yes. Your mileage may vary so don't take my word for it. You might think I am koo-koo for coco-puffs and might want to check it out for yourself. :-)
WTF, did I just read. What was this?! Not a historical romance, that's for sure. More like a New Adult Mafia romance with characters cosplaying a fantasy historical world that doesn't feel historical at all. I mean Bridgerton is super historically accurate compared to this mess!
Of course we got a whole bunch of toxic manwhore brothers (MF romance though) and an asshole MMC who of course was instantly in love with the FMC who literally is not like other girls. And don't get me started on the insta-love because the romance is just coming out of nowhere and is completely unbelievable. Clinton and Anna have absolutely no chemistry.
And for the safety gang, it's not super safe. It's implied Clinton has sex after he met Anastasia. No matter what he definitely didn't behave like a monk. Misunderstandings included.
I can't even fully describe what I'm feeling. This is such a strange, not in a good way, book that made me shake my head too many times. Why the hell is this called a historical romance!? This was just like any other academy/college book including a bunch of shitty rich guys being super cool and mysterious and doing fancy stuff that didn't even fit the story. I'm sorry, there's no way those fucking morons formed this super secret society saving abused children and animals. 🙄
The only saving grace? It's a slowburn romance and the spice is very minimal. Not really super explicit and only one scene.

This is a bully high school romance dropped into regency. If you're going to write a period piece stay within the realm. I am not a fan of the blatant bully for no reason and that's what this is they apparently attempt to make these horrid brothers who bully a young girl because they don't know why she's there by turning them into some sort of noble heros. It is too much of a stretch to treat an innocent girl as though she is a common wh*** based on zero evidence and then say they were doing it for noble reasons, contradictions. Not to mention based on the era they would never behave this way to her even if she were the brothers mistress. Too frustrating to finish, made it to 10% then skimmed to the end.
All right, I admit that I was aware that Stacey had written Lords and I hadn't read it yet. I fully admit that I was missing out on some prime Von Haegert writing.
As always the story weaved and the world built kept me turning the pages. I liked Anastasia even when the brothers were using her for their own amusement again and again. She's a strong woman in an unlikely situation and I admit that if I was in her shoes I probably would have cornered Nathaniel sooner and demanded answers... But that's just not how things were done so Bravo Anastasia for making the best and continuing to think even when it seemed that the odds weren't in her favor.
Clinton... At first not only didn't I like him but I most definitely didn't like his name. It was just stuffy, much like himself. Until I got farther into the story and realized Clinton and his brothers had a purpose that was much greater than making Anastasia's life miserable. Clinton had honor and morals when it served his purpose.
Put the two together and you have a very passionate affair with twist and turns and I was left questioning who was truly the villain and anticipating the chapters that would answer all of my questions!
Rest assured that my questions were answered. Including the sad fact that Clinton's brothers will not be getting their own story, much to my sadness.
LORDS is a fast, exciting read full of characters built to love and hate and love to hate, passion and a little bit of mystery. It definitely ticked off all of my boxes.
This story is a little bit theatrical and exaggerated with emotions all over the place, like in a teenage drama. Also, all the customs and social rules relating to the historic era are very loosely applied. The whole drama looks like a very modern suburban story in historical costumes.
I had no idea what to expect when I started to read Lords and I it is an understatement, that I was positively surprised!
Lords is a historical romance, and I loved how Stacy Von Haegert portraits the period. The food, clothes, surroundings and how people behave... Von Haegert has done her homework well. Reading this book, it felt more like watching a movie in my head rather than just reading. Lords is a literary time machine.
The plot is constructed ambiguously, keeping the reader interested all the way to the last page. I like how the novel carries many storylines intertwining them into a perfect book. Anastasia is a shop keeper's daughter. She loses her father in an accident, and suddenly she is wrenched from her familiar surroundings, and she finds herself living in a household of lords, all unattached and free to roam. She needs to find out what is behind this peculiar and unconventional arrangement. As it turns out, there are others after the same answers, and there are many twists and turns before the truth is out.
The characters are vivacious, and they have a depth to them. Anastasi is feisty and smart, yet delicate and feminine. Oh, and the Fitzpatrick men... they are strong, hard-headed, loyal and ready to fight for what they believe in.
I really enjoyed this book, the characters are likeable (even when they're not!) and the heroine isn't the usual damsel in distress but has a backbone. The story flowed easily so I didn't find myself getting bored but read without noticing the time passing which is always a good indicator if a book is worth reading or not.
We first meet Anastasia and her father in their flower shop but due to an accident she's soon moved to the home of the Duke of Avondale, Nathaniel Fitzpatrick. The Duke doesn't feature as one of the main characters but his 4 younger brothers do and it's these men and their reaction to an interloper that forms the story. All the Lords are supposed to be young, even the Duke isn't that old, but due to how they're written and their adventures in my mind they were all a lot older. I guessed who Anastasia's HEA would be with early on but because of the story line it made it an adventure. Definitely a book I'd recommend in this genre.
That's a question that weighs heavy on our heroine, Anastasia's mind. Raised as a shopkeeper's daughter, Anna is no stranger to hard work. But her world is turned upside down after her father's untimely death.
According to a legally binding document, Anna falls under the care of an elusive Duke and his four rakish brothers. She's thrust in to a life of decadence and debauchery. A completely different world than she is used to. Can she come out of this unchanged? Or is change not that much of a bad thing?
I absolutely loved Anna's story. She is such a strong character and she definitely holds her own against her tormentors. The romance is very sweet but not overbearing. A story like her's needed to be told with few distractions. And it was marvelous how Stacy handled it.
I can definitely count this among my favorites now.
*I recieved this novel for free in exchange for an honest review by way of Voracious Readers Only *
Anastasia is the daughter of a shopkeeper. The day her father gets killed in a freak accident, everything starts to unravel for Anna. Nathaniel is now appointed as her guardian, he is also a Duke. Clinton is Nathaniel's brother and from the moment he sees Anastasia he falls for her. This book is to awesome to give anymore away.
Merged review:
Love, love, loved this

OH. MY. GOD!!! How on earth did the author manage to create such a magnificent story is beyond me! The characters are so powerful you can realate and feel each and every one of their feelings. You find yourself actually living their experiences with them. And the epilogue made me cry my eyes out! I swear the marriage proposal is as romantic as, if not more romantic, than Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice one!!! It was absolutely breathtaking! Lords has become without a doubt my favourite historical romance and I was convinced that the author could not top Perkin's story in the White Rose Trilogy. A must read for sure!!! You will absolutely fall in love with Ana and Clinton!!!
Firstly, I am a fan of Ms Von Haegert and have read all of her books so I may be slightly biased, but I have to say that this may be my favorite of all her works. From the first page, I was drawn in to this story. Anna is the sort of character that I believe most readers will relate to. She is tough yet sensitive, feisty yet feminine. The chemistry between Anastasia and Clinton is absolutely sizzling but this is more than just a romance. The action and intrigue will keep you turning pages till the very end! Trust me, you will not be disappointed in this book and it will definitely leave you wanting more of the Fitzpatrick brothers!!
Purchase My first book by this author and I look forward to reading a lot more. The main character Anastasia looses her father in a tragic accident. I could not imagine what it would have been like to learn that your father gave your guardianship to a stranger a lord now you have to leave the only home you've ever known to a place you've never been. Being accused of being a loose women by his brothers and the help and learning to be a lady. That's just a small taste of the phenomenal romance weaved by this author. I highly recommend this book to historical romance readers. Loved loved loved it.
I really enjoyed the White Rose series by Stacy but I got the impression that this book was not entirely written by her. The use of words like kids and fun and the phrase what you going on about are simply too modern. I also had a big problem with the use of Christs name for swearing by two young women in the story. I have read hundreds of nineteenth century stories and have NEVER seen this happen. So while the story itself is credible, some of the language is not.
This is a fun Historical romance with twists and turns. Anastasia finds her herself alone after her father is killed in a freak accident. Not sure what she is going to do, she is surprised when a stranger shows up with paperwork showing he is her guardian. He takes her to his castle where he lives with his four brothers and the fun begins. The brothers resent her and give her a hard time. But Anastasia is not what she seems and even she doesnt know who she really is.. You will enjoy the twists and turns in this book and of course the ending is pure magic
I totally love this story and especially the Fitzpatrick brothers. Anastasia's life is turned upside down (or is it right side up) when her shopkeeper father is fatally wounded in an accident. She is left as a ward of a Lord she has never met, who has 4 very obnoxious brothers. What the brothers don't realize is they do indeed need Anastasia's female influence in their lives. If only she can convince them she is not what they think. But then maybe Anastasia is not what she thinks, either.
I was completely captivated by this book. It reminded me a lot of Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella, but in all the good ways. Just a magical fairy-tale, whimsical and beautiful. That is not to say it is a Disney type story. Oh, no. Not at all. It is simply just filled with all the excitement CL Lewis was talking about when he told his daughter that she would one day be old enough to read fairy tales again!
I loved reading Lords. Read the book in three days as I was unable to put the book down. It was intriguing, full of suspense as you did not know what was happening next until you turned the next page. The characters had their unique personalities which was intriguing in who they were and how they interacted with each other in their daily life. I hope there will be a sequel to this book . I am definitely going to enjoy reading more of Stacy Von Haegert books.
I'm sorry but I'm short & sweet regarding my reviews. I have been mesmerized by this book from the beginning. A woman who think she's 'Just a lonely commoner'. To a gentleman that is star struck from his first look upon her. Awesome, awesome read. Stacy is an awesome & talented writer.
This was a great read. As always Stacy Von Haeget delivers a very captivating tale with plenty of plot twists to keep you interested in her characters and what happens to them. I was not a big fan of these cocky bothers in the beginning, but eventually I surrendered my heart to Clinton. It was a terrific book. Thank you, Stacy for entertaining me yet again. Looking forward to the next one!
What men! This was one of the best story I've read this year! The characters were so riveting. I started as soon as I got it and couldn't put it down to the end. I can't praise this book enough. It everything you want in a story. If this isn't a series I will be heart broken. Thank you for a great book!
