The Legendary Builder #2

The Builder's Greed

Rate this book
For the first time in millenia, the all-consuming Darkness has been pushed back. Thanks to Arthur and his ragtag army of women, there’s finally a light at the end of the tunnel.

Or there would have been if Mammon, Princess of Greed hadn’t awakened.

Powerful enough to level a town with the blink of an eye and ally to no one, Mammon has one goal and one goal only.

To own everything in Hell, starting with Arthur and his friends.

And if he can’t stop her from taking over while fending off attacks from Hell’s ruling class, well, let’s just say that his chance to stop the Darkness will slip from slim to none.

J.A. Cipriano

When New York Times Bestselling author, J. A. Cipriano was in second grade, his teacher gave everyone in class a journal to write down whatever they wanted. Their first subject was to write about something they didn’t like. J. A. chose to write about why he didn’t like writing. His reasoning was simple. He had bad handwriting. Even then, he was destined to be an engineer due to his messy scrawl.

Unfortunately, he found through the course of this little adventure that he actually liked writing. That year was sort of the high point for his writing career because he won a writing contest for the state. He got to go to a big dinner and his teacher was all dressed up.

He kept writing little stories, year after year, and in sixth grade, won another contest. In seventh grade, he broke his arm and got the cast signed by both Dean Koontz and Stan Lee. It is, by far, the coolest cast he’s owned. That was about the time he found video games and anime. His writing turned mostly toward fanfiction until about ninth grade when he wrote his first novel, a small book about twenty thousand words called Revelations. In sophomore year, he wrote two more books to complete the trilogy because he saw Star Wars that year and learned trilogies were the cool thing to do.

He rewrote Revelations during his senior year, and his wife swears it is the best thing he’s written. J.A. is not so sure. Every time he reads it, he cringes, but then again, he hates everything he writes, so there is that.

It was about that time, he got heavily involved in a fanfiction writing group, but that isn’t one hundred percent accurate. It was a world based on a popular anime but everything was created especially for this world. It made it so that every story someone wrote was unique.

Imagine writing a Star Wars novel set 1,000 years after A New Hope, where everything that happened was a distant memory and you get the idea. You have the force, some distant memories of the past, and that’s pretty much it.

He wrote about a million words (863K to be exact) for them before he decided to do his own thing. He wrote another novel. He put it in a drawer. He wrote another one that eventually became the basis for The Hatter is Mad. His next novel was Kill It With Magic, his first real novel. It’s not bad, but it’s bumpy. This is unfortunate because the books get loads better as the series progresses.

Since then, he’s written six more novels, four of which are in the Lillim Callina Series, and one in the Abby Banks series. The other is stuck in a drawer for time undetermined. He’s writing his next book now which is about werewolves fighting mummies in Ancient Egypt. After that, he will move onto Abby Banks 2. The Spy Within will come out in June or July.

J.A. also has three chinchillas. Two of them are grey, and because of this, they are named Slate and Cadmium. The third is named Jet because he’s black, and Jet is old English for black. See, creative. He also has a cat named Turtle. This does pose problems for his two-year-old from time to time.

Too rushed

The plot is too rushed in the beginning and the male main character remains very flat, he is not dynamic at all and never grows or changes.

The big um... guns are here.

We see the arrival of some big names in this book as the angels get in to the game. Including the fallen. With up and downs for the MC at the hands of those much stronger then he is. His soul will never be the same.

I'm struggling hard to come up with something nice to say about this installment in the series. The story did progress, and that was good, but it seems that in this volume the sex became so pervasive, that it's almost like the story was secondary, and the only point of this book was to showcase more sexual exploits of our hero. What's the point?
Ok, so we get it, hell is filled with women, and only women, no males anywhere, (even though one of the main characters is actually named Samuel, not Samantha, What the heck is all that about?
This book was just plain stupid. I'm sorry, but that's the best I can say for it. Honestly, I'm not a prude, and I don't mind a bit of sex now and again getting into stories I read, and when one of the main characters is a demonic succubus, it's almost expected, but come on, there's supposed to be a story here, and this book progressed the story very little, and by the end of it, I'm actually beginning to hate the hero, the main characters, and even feeling I'd be better off if I never read another book in the series ever again. We did get some background on a few of the characters, that part was good, and we got to see some of the skills the hero gets from adding parts of the armor he's supposed to wear when battling the dark, and that was cool too, but beyond that, if you ripped out all the sex in this book, you would probably have about 2 chapters worth of content, and that makes this one a real slog to get through if all you're looking for is the advancement of the story.
So, if you are looking for a real good story, I recommend you look elsewhere, because it doesn't look like this one is going to get there anytime soon.

In this second installment of The Legendary Builder we find Arthur making some progress against the Darkness, but at the same time taking some losses. It’s like two steps forward, one step back. We did get additional background on some of the women and Arthur got a couple more toys to play with; items not women. I suppose with the Builder being the only man in centuries with an all-woman population the sexual writing had to be present unless the author made the Builder a dyed-in-the-wool homosexual. I mean, otherwise all of us would wonder wouldn’t we? I know it would raise questions in my male brain. All in all the story did move forward, but the book felt short to me. I’m still looking forward to the next volume to see how this pans out. This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.

.....Eh, that ending is just....I don't know brah

I'll give you a seven out of ten for the decent opening and minus two stars for the cliff hanger and needing, however temporary it is....this story was as solid as usual but the way it's packed it felt like right as it was about to get satisfying you took away some elements...it's like if I if offer you a really great sandwich but it lacked the sauce and meat to put it over the top...then just as you started adding the sauce and meat, you hid the lettuce and cheese somewhere and ended the book....5/5 but only because the homerun start got it out of the park before things started dropping off.

Arthur and the girls are back, kind of... The demon princess of greed Mammon is accidentally released by Archangel Gabriella, most of Arthur's people disappear and then Arthur starts running around Hell. Arthur ends up searching for items to help him in the next battle. There were quite a few funny scenes as Gabriella is a hoot and definitely blonde. Well written I could feel like I was right there. Though I did want to slap Arthur more in this book then the last one. I received a free copy and I liked it. Cannot wait to see what happens next.

I really, really like this author, and this is another great book by Mr. Cipriano. This book was filled with action and great writing. If you love books revolving around LitRPG, you will love this one. I have to admit I really like the characters, but sometimes they can be a bit dense. And, I'd really like another male character (why, you ask? Read this and find out!)! LOL! If you haven't read the first one, I'd start with that one before reading this one. Recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-copy with I voluntarily reviewed.

In this, my eleventh read from author J.A. Cipriano, it all comes together! Outstanding & enjoyable read, especially for fans of FRP and so much more. The book continues seamlessly from book 1. So good I can't wait to delve into the next book in the series. Narrator Gary Furlong again lends his incredible talents to the reading of this book, his varied voice inflections add greatly to the enjoyment of the book.

Can't wait for more.

The story is starting to heat up. If you made it this far you know the premise behind this book. It has alot of references to other stories. It takes after mostly king Arthur. Now as reading this I was starting to wondering when he was going to get a Merlin. I mean has has Guenivere. He has sword. This book also introduces to what bleve to be the seven sins or at least there representation.

Very entertaining. Complete wish fulfillment and a premise which could fairly be described as really fucking stupid, but the author plays it so completely straight that it manages to loop around to be unironically entertaining. Definitely above average for LitRPG, which admittedly isn't saying much.

Expansive and Interesting

A very good sequel although meandering / confusing at times. There's a distinct tone difference between the first book and this one too. Recommended. I suggest reading the two books back to back for best results. The next book should be very interesting...

This book was... alright. Aside from a few grammar or spelling errors I noticed my main problem is the fact that in both Heaven and Hell everyone is a female. It feels that they are only female to have the protagonist sleep with them. Also it feels as though some of the females are written poorly, however that might be that I just don't care for strong characters who suddenly play hard to get.

One trip to Montana

So I started this book immediately after reading the first. It took me a little reading before bed and one early morning flight to Dallas and onto Montana to finish it. Couldn't put it down! I can't wait to see what issues we can get into now that Lucifer is awake!!! Can't wait!!

Things escalated to quickly

Challenges quickly evolved from mundane to overwhelming. This makes it feel like the rules are not set and the games is not fair.

The year of training was well done. The relationship withMammon evolved in an interesting way. I’m tired of the protagonist using me I’m stupid line to escape character development.

On to the next book in the series.

The Builder's Greed is the fantastic action filled second book in this series that combines fantasy with Gamelit elements and a harem story. This series is not for the easily offended as it takes place in hell, has plenty of violence, and it includes a harem, but the sex scenes are more of the fade to black variety. The narrator of the audiobook is terrific!

Great 2nd book!

Totally a cliff-hanger! So the dark horse of the story finds that he is constantly in over his head! Sheesh, seems like my life without all the powers!
Awesome read!

Good Read.

A LitRPG story. This continues from the first book. The story takes a big step back and slowly take a step forward and outlines on how future books will take. The story ends on a small cliffhanger.

Stepping up

This is a lot better than the first one. The MC is still an air head, but honest. Also, the pacing was a lot better this time too.

A little sophomoric at times; still it was entertaining. I would have given it four stars except for the the excessive use of profanity.
