A Chance This Christmas

Rate this book
Growing up in the Christmas-crazed theme town of Yuletide was fun for fashion designer Rachel Chambers until a family scandal made her unwelcome. Eight years later, she’s home for a friend’s wedding and trying to go incognito… until her old flame spots her.

Snowboarder Gavin Blake wants to make things right with Rachel, and smoothing her way back in Yuletide seems like the best way to do just that. Making Rachel his date for a week of pre-wedding parties is sure to bring them closer. Except he underestimated how long a small town can carry a grudge--or how much the memory of a long-ago kiss could tempt him all over again.

As the wedding approaches, Rachel remembers all she loved about her close-knit, Christmas-loving neighbors. But even if she can win over the town again, will she be able to convince her footloose, mogul-shredding wedding date that they can find happiness beyond the holidays?

A Chance This Christmas is book three in the Road to Romance series by Joanne Rock.

Rachel Chambers left her home town of Yuletide, New York eight years ago with a broken spirit and a broken heart. All in one day, her father left town causing a scandal and Rachel was caught in a scandal herself that left her heart shattered. Now, eight years later, after she and her two friends had all pledged to confront their pasts and make amends so they could all move on, Rachel is back in her home town once again.

Christmas

Rachel’s best friend is getting married and she is determined that Rachel attend her wedding. The man her friend is marrying, Luke Harris, was a part of the scandal all those years ago and he is still holding a grudge. Before the town can ever accept Rachel, Luke must also forgive her.

Right here I want to say that you know when an author is doing a great job with their writing when you find yourself completely mortified for this wonderful young woman and the way this town is treating her. It infuriates me that she wants Luke to forgive her when he is the one that needs forgiving. He could have righted wrongs by just admitting the truth about what happened that day all those years ago but he didn’t. He let the town think the worst. Rachel and her mother suffered not only from the scandal but they both lost the most important man in their lives that day as well. No one seemed to remember that. I wanted to jump right into the book and give Rachel a hug.

snowboarder

Gavin Blake both was and is Luke’s best friend. He was also part of what happened that day. He and Luke have patched their friendship and Gavin is best man in the wedding. When Gavin sees that Rachel is back, he can’t believe his eyes. He vows to help her to pave the road to acceptance back into the town. He owes her that much. Eight years ago, Gavin and Rachel shared one kiss. It was a kiss that rocked both of their worlds but then both of their worlds imploded. He hasn’t seen or heard from her since.

Gavin is a professional snowboarder. It’s just weeks away from the Olympics and he is in training. But he took this week for his friend’s wedding. But now the only thing that is important to Gavin is helping Rachel, and maybe seeing if this could be a second chance for them. He feels the same chemistry as before if not stronger. Could this finally be their chance to see where it could go?

Yuletide is a Christmas town which thrives on it’s tourist business all year long. But it’s also supposed to be a town full of the Christmas spirit. But they seem to have forgotten that. It seems like now it’s just all about the money.

Christmas love

As I said before, I loved both Rachel and Gavin, even though I feel the tiniest bit of anger toward Gavin as well for not setting things right earlier. But these two both have suffered so much. It’s time for them both to benefit from the magic of Christmas and to find love.

This is a quick read and I really enjoyed it as I have everything I’ve read of Joanne Rock’s. This book is overflowing with Christmas and is sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Even if the season just did change to Autumn.

Rachel Chambers left her Christmas crazed hometown of Yuletide eight years before when she was surrounded in a family scandal and felt quite unwelcome in the town. Her father had run off with the town's funds and left she and her mother behind shouldering the blame from angry residents. Now however Rachel feels it's time to mend the fences and return home for her friend’s wedding.

What Rachel didn't count on though when returning to Yuletide was running into Gavin Blake who she had thought was away snowboarding. Rachel and Gavin also have a shaky past that gives those in the town yet another reason to dislike Rachel's return. Gavin however believes it's time to put the past behind them all and vows to help smooth Rachel's way back into the town's good graces.

A Chance This Christmas by Joanne Rock is the third book in the contemporary romance series Road to Romance. Each book in the series features a different couple coming together with the theme of making up for mistakes in the past. With each read holding different main characters they of course can all be read fine as a standalone book if one chooses to do so.

For me this one was an alright romance read with Rachel and Gavin both likable characters and certainly and interesting setting with a town completely obsessed with Christmas. I'd probably think enough is enough with the decorations and celebrating each spring or so but hey it's cute to read about though.

The one thing I wasn't quite a fan of in here though was the fact that Rachel was ever an outcast to begin with... neither of the reasoning given were totally her fault, especially her father's actions which she really had nothing to do with since she and her mother were abandoned too so I kind of thought the set up was slightly lacking there for all the hate she was receiving when returning. But otherwise it's a nice little quick read Christmas romance.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

This story is set in a town which celebrates Christmas 365 days a year. Rachel left town on bad terms years ago, and has come back to make peace with the past. It's a story full of romance and Christmas cheer. I like the characters and enjoyed the story. It's a nice and quick December read.

If you love Hallmark Channel holiday movies then this book will definitely put you in the mindset of a Hallmark holiday movie. You could practically see the movie set as you read and meet the "villains" of the story and the over the top Christmas setup in town. The actual story line was cute but I have to admit that it dragged a little and while I enjoyed it, it just didn't have that zing that kept me fully invested in the story.

I think the biggest thing that kept me from becoming truly invested in Rachel's plight is that the townspeople seemed more focus on the fact that Rachel supposedly "cheated" on her ex. The kicker is her best friend, her ex and the guy she liked all knew that was not true! And yet no one could bother telling people that she never cheated on her ex! I can see maybe her ex because his ego was bruised but her best friend especially I felt could have stood up for her if she was really her best friend instead of basically helping to keep her best friend exiled for years. I think if that whole debacle had been left out and the story line just focused on Rachel's father's embezzlement it would have worked better for me.

Still it's a cute read if you are looking for a holiday romance to get you into the holiday mood.

I received a free copy from the publisher on Netgalley and voluntarily reviewed it.

I've been enjoying this series so far and was excited to delve in the latest book in this series. It was exactly the type of read I was in the mood for. It had that Christmas feel a good Christmas romance has, a solid heartwarming romance and some interesting side plot lines as well. The book grabbed my attention from the start and kept it until the end.

A Chance This Christmas follows Rachel who returns to her hometown to make peace with the past. After a big scandal eight years ago she left and never got back. She not only ran away from her hometown, but also the boy she had a crush on. I liked Rachel, she was a great character and I liked how determined she was to set things right even though it was difficult. The town still shuns her and blames her for what happened eight years ago. It was a lot for her to go up against, but luckily she had Gavin on her side. I liked how the whole scandal and town made for an interesting plot line.

Gavin is a professional snowboarder, who is returning home to Yuletide for the wedding of his best friend. What he doesn't count on is to run into Rachel again and realize he still has feelings for her. I liked getting to know Rachel and Gavin, we get to know a bit of their background and follow them as they get to know each other again. I also thought it was interesting what drove them apart the first time as it was very different from most second chance stories. It was awesome to see these two fall for each other again.

The romance was sweet and the Christmas setting of the town was the perfect backdrop. I really felt their connection and kept rooting for them to figure things out and find a way to be together. I liked how mature both characters where and how realistic their reactions to everything. And I was especially pleased by how low on the drama and miscommunication their romance was. I felt like it fit their characters and the few hiccups in their relationship felt real and believable. The epilogue was the perfect ending and left me with a happy feeling.

Besides the romance there are a few side plot lines going on as well. There is the scandal of eight years ago, the town who still partly blames Rachel, there is wedding between two side characters coming up and a plot line concerning the town council and the direction they took with the town. It was all perfectly interwoven into the story and between the romance. And I liked how the whole town and the side characters all played a part too and became part of the story.

I liked seeing Rachel re-connect with the town and even though it brought up some painful memories, good ones too and make peace with everything and rediscover her love for this town. And it was also fun to see everyone slowly warm up a bit towards her. I did feel one of the side plot liens regarding what happened eight years ago got wrapped up a bit rushed, but I did like we got to know what happened. Although I did keep wondering where one of the side characters was now.

And then there is the Christmas aspect of the book. A Chance This Christmas has that Christmas feel nailed down. It's set in a small town called Yuletide that's basically a Christmas town year round. It was so fun to visit this town and the author really made the town come alive. I could vividly imagine how everything looked. And I loved the Christmas feel of this book. It's definitely a great read to pick up if you're in the mood for a great holiday romance.

To summarize: I really enjoyed this book with the believable second chance romance, Christmas vibe and great characters. I was sad to leave Yuletide at the end of the book as it was such a fun place to visit. I liked both Rachel and Gavin and they were so good for each other. I liked their second chance romance and also seeing Rachel reconnect with her home town. The romance develops at a nice slow pace that fits the characters, there is little drama and miscommunication. The problems they faced and the hiccups in their relationship felt all believable. I liked how supportive Gavin was of Rachel and how Rachel opened her heart to him and the town again. The book also has a great Christmas feel, I could vividly imagine the town and all the Christmas decorations. If you're looking for a great Christmas romance to read I would definitely recommend this one!

Sometimes it is harder to make peace with a whole town than it is with the one guy that everyone thinks you broke his heart; such is the case in Joanne Rock’s A Chance This Christmas. After turning down a very public proposal (let’s just say skywriting was involved) from her ex-boyfriend Luke, and the revelation that her father had embezzled from the town’s treasury, Rachel Chambers left Yuletide very quickly. Eight years later, after making a pact with her three best friends to let the past go, Rachel has come home. Needless to say, the town does not welcome her with open arms. Though after a few days, and a few expressions of support, including one from her high school crush, Gavin, Rachel realizes that Yuletide is where she is meant to be and Gavin is her forever. Rock nails the Christmas spirit in this novel. The town of Yuletide is over the top, but perfect for the season. Rachel’s second chance is all the sweeter for having earned it the hard way, through lots of effort.

Due to a pact made with her friends, Rachel Chambers visits her hometown, Yuletide, 8 years after a fateful incident that changed the course of her life. Now 8 years hence, she is determined to make peace with the town that wholeheartedly hates her. However, with ghosts of the past (Gavin), dropping again in her life, will she be able to do what she came to the town for?

This book is a typical Hallmark Christmas movie plot. Nice and comfortable read during Christmas (while enjoying some hot chocolate of course!!) However the book falls short in some aspects such as unnecessary stretching of events in some sections, specially towards the end, unexplored interesting plot points (how did the town suddenly gets convinced to revamp and preserve the corousel that Rachel's father introduced to the town, or Luke's réaction to the events unfurling in the end, his equation with Rachel after that or what happened to the charity event, and so on. Overall it's a one time read and will be liked by the niche of audiences who like cheesy Christmas romances and hallmark movie plots.

A Chance This Christmas by Joanne Rock
A Road to Romance Story #

Who knew a kiss could keep a woman away from her hometown for eight long years? With a promise to her New York friends and the goal of righting town-perceived wrongs Rachel heads home to Christmas year round themed Yuletide – the town she grew up in. With Christmas around the corner, the season of tourists and visitors at the highest level, the wedding of her best friend to her long ago boyfriend and her father still at large after embezzling town funds eight years ago Rachel hits town and runs into the man who was kissing her when another man proposed on the day her father absconded with the town money. Rachel and Gavin are given a second chance at finding happiness together and almost all wrongs are righted when a secret is shared by one of the townspeople before the end of the story. If you are looking for a quick easy Christmas story to read and like second chance love stories set in cozy communities this might be for you. It has no big events or unveilings but is a sweet read.

Oh my, I LOVED A Chance This Christmas! Rachel just embedded herself into my heart and refused to leave. My heart BROKE for the poor girl as her history was revealed. I just wanted so many good things for her, and it felt like everyone was just out to kick her while she was down.

Everyone except for Gavin. He's an Olympic snowboarder who is back in Yuletide for the same reason as Rachel, to see their best friends get married. I loved how he tried to protect and stand up for Rachel, while his character was still a bit flawed. He always does things with the best of intentions.

Overall, A Chance This Christmas is a great read for any holiday themed reader. This book is the third book in a series based on a a group of friends, but this book reads as a total standalone.

A Chance This Christmas is a cute, fluffy holiday read. There are some questions raised by the premise (ie the heroine hasn't been home in eight years--where does an 18-year-old with no obvious means of support other than her now-single mother go during college and semester breaks? How and when did she reconcile with the friend whose wedding she's back in town to attend? Why hasn't her father been caught in all that time? Is he really that much of a criminal mastermind??) and more than a touch of insta-love by the story's end (yeah, they were high school friends--but one kiss and then no contact for the aforementioned eight years?) but if you're willing to let go of logic and just go with the feel-good holiday flow, then this Road to Romance series book 3 could be the story for you. At the very least, it'll have you looking forward to hot cocoa and ugly Christmas sweater weather.

Gavin and Rachel chose to take the scenic route to love. The trip consisted of regrets, betrayals and heartache, but the endgame proved worth every bump in the road. It's never too early to get in the holiday spirit. Especially when you live in a picturesque town like Yuletide. Ms. Rock takes the best parts of the holiday season and places them in a small town setting. A Chance This Christmas is a Hallmark movie just waiting to be made. On the wings of love, Ms. Rock delivers a story of forgiveness, new beginnings and heartwarming fun.

I loved book 2 of this series, Second Chance Cowboy, and was looking forward to this one. It was entertaining, but for me, it wasn’t as engaging as the previous story.
The series centers around three friends that make a vow to make amends for past mistakes.
This is Rachel Chambers story. She has not returned to her hometown, Yuletide, for eight years. The same day her ex-boyfriend proposes, and she has kissed his best friend, her father disappears after stealing money from the town. She was accused of being involved. Now eight years after, she is back when her childhood best friend invites her to her wedding to the ex-boyfriend.
Gavin, the young boy she kissed, is not only a well know and Olympic snowboarder, but he is also the best man in the wedding.
These two pick up where they left and Gavin is determined to make the town embrace Rachel. An apparent impossible feat.
This is a sweet romance about family loyalties, hope, forgiveness and the spirit of Christmas.
For me it was more of a 3.5 star story but I have a great deal of respect for the dedication and talent of this author , so I will give it a 4 star rating.
I was gifted this copy by Tule Publishing. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

I really enjoyed this story! Such a sweet and fun read.

Rachel hasn't been home to Yuletide, NY in 8 years. Causing a scandal and then her father becoming a criminal the same night makes her feel like an outcast. So she has made her life away from home.

Gavin has made a name for himself. Snowboarding has made him a well known name. But in his hometown the kiss with Rachel has even more impact on his life. But he wants to come home. And he buys the house next to her family's. But he never expected to have a chance with her.

As these two become closer as Christmas season is upon them, their scandal and the repercussions from it still follow them around. No one wants to welcome Rachel home. But Gavin makes her feel at home. His touch, his smile, his heart. The passion they felt all those years ago is still there. And she wants nothing more than to stay home with him. But as her friends wedding dons with the man she supposedly scorned with her kiss with Gavin, something happens that makes Rachel think Gavin doesn't want her. Can she overcome her fears and find out what happiness is like at home, or will the townspeople drive her away once again??

Good quick read. A bit far fetched in the storyline in that the whole town could hold a grudge over a turned down marriage proposal but was still a quaint little romance story.

Rachel Chambers is in the last place she ever thought she’d be again. A pact with her best friends has led her back home to clear the air after a disastrous parting. Negative old feelings and a less than happy homecoming is going to make patching things u with her old home town extremely difficult. Add to it that her ex-boyfriend is marrying her best friend, and her old crush is not only going to be in town, he bought the house next door to her mom. In addition, those old sparks don’t take but a second to flame back up. But Rachel has no intention of staying home after the wedding and Gavin is looking to settle down. A future between the two beyond the week she is in town seems impossible. But Christmas miracles could happen – if she can get off the naughty list.

Gavin Blake is a famed snow-boarder and Olympic hero. He’s still in to the life, but starting to think about his future and settling down in his old hometown. When his long-time crush unexpectedly comes home, he starts to entertain thoughts of a future with Rachel – if he can convince her that they can make it work. The wrong place at the wrong time ruined the first glimmer of what could have been a relationship with them eight years ago and Rachel fled. Now he has to figure out how to redeem her in the town’s eyes and keep her from running again.

I have had some really good luck lately with Christmas-themed books by some really talented authors. I am happy to say that this book is just as great as the others. Don’t let the Christmas-theme keep you from reading though – this feel-good book about redemption and second chances will give you the warm fuzzies no matter the time of year. The content may seem a bit serious, but the author maintained a nice balance that keeps it from shadowing over the whole story. A bit of mystery comes to light while a love that couldn’t find it’s way eight years ago, gets a chance to shine. My few complaints involve a few issues, including a couple of things that are not explained much – such as Rachel’s mother involving money and feelings following the discovery of reasons behind circumstances. I know that’s vague and lacking detail but I don’t want to spoil any part of the story. It might have been good to expand just a bit on the town completely flipping attitudes also. While I understand the town’s feelings of betrayal, I find it interesting that they could turn on Rachel so quickly, especially given their obsession with Christmas and the fact that none of the occurrences were her fault. The end happened quickly and wrapped up super fast so details, for me, were somewhat sparse. Throughout, there are few things that are somewhat off. The quick attitude changes are definitely one. What the heck happened with the merry-go-round? And where the heck is Rachel’s Dad anyway? So if you want all of your questions answered by the end of the story, be advised – it won’t happen.

Overall, I enjoyed getting to know Rachel and Gavin, as well as their friends and family members. Mostly, anyway. A couple of the characters were callous and lacked depth beyond anger. However, this book is an entertaining read despite the deficiencies, packed full of scandal, redemption, and yuletide cheer. But don’t let the plot fool you, Yuletide has just as much redemption to obtain as Rachel does. I could easily see this book made in to a movie that becomes a holiday favorite. What is the channel that plays all the sappy, cute, HEA movies every year? Hallmark, ABC Family, Lifetime? I don’t know, but I watch them and this book would fit in. A Chance This Christmas is the 3rd in a series, but is easily read as a standalone. Readers looking for a cute HEA with a mess of misunderstanding that causes a local to be cast out, but that gets wrapped up nicely in a cute little bow at the end, are sure to be pleased. 😊

As most know, I have been reading Ms. Rock since she started writing for Harlequin. I still read her Harlequin’s, her indies and now her books with Tule. Who, by the way, is one publisher that you need to be buying books from. You’d be surprised who writes for them and the books are just too good to pass up. Anyway, I never miss a chance to spotlight Ms. Rock on the blog. But, I do need to tell you before I start the review that this is book #3 in a series but they can totally be read as stand alones. I just need to go back and read the other girls stories. And yes, I have them on the Nook.

What really made the story for me is that not only is a second change story but it’s always about redemption. This town is so ugly to Rachel and in some ways to Gavin because of his association with her that I almost didn’t finish it. I know and I NEVER DNF a book but with this one, I seriously thought about it. They didn’t care about the facts about the scandal with Rachel’s dad and let’s not forget about the ex-boyfriend, Luke. Luke is a douche. Yes, I said it and Ms. Rock knows this. There is nothing to like about him at all. He treats Rachel like a piece of gum on the bottom of his shoe and never lets up. Even when his bride to be is forgiving. In fact, she wants Rachel at their wedding and makes every effort for Rachel to be included. Luke and his parents just want Rachel to be gone. Of course, I could tell the “why” but you really need to read the book to find out for yourself. I never saw it coming and in all honesty, I would have liked some more closure in regards to the town and the Harris clan.

Gavin is just too patient at times for me but he never gives up on Rachel and her acceptance back into the town and in his heart. I liked him from the start and their relationship is a slow build and emotional at times. He never had a bad thing to say about Rachel but at the same time, didn’t really stand up for her before she left. He realizes this and makes it his journey to make sure that the town sees how much they were wrong and Rachel is right. Nothing like a man standing up for his woman. I loved it. Rachel, on the other hand, wasn’t so sure about it. She really didn’t even want to be there but there she was. Her mom is a gem, too. I really liked how supportive she is of Rachel, regardless of the past and the possible future.

Overall, do yourself a favor and pick up this book. Heck, pick up any of Ms. Rock’s books. She never disappoints and always delivers the goods. Trust me and you’re welcome.

Rachel Chambers is slinking back into town. Not her way of wanting to come back home, but because a decorated serviceman, Luke Harris is not owning up to his part in the debacle past, this is her only way. Which is sad since it’s his bride, who wants her there. Poor Rachel lives in the book of irony. She was trying to save him from embarrassment by not telling anyone that she had broken up with him way before he came back to town.

And this is what happens, he won’t face her. So she can ask all she needs. This all stems from one kiss. How was she supposed to know her ex-boyfriend was going to propose to her? She didn’t. The groom is living off of hearsay and that is not reliable, the majority is from sheer stubbornness. So, when you hear her story it makes your heart hurt for her and her mom. They were both victims. Because she hasn’t been home in eight years over all the lies and hearsay.

What she finds is, that Harristown has been renamed to, Yuletide. That part was due to her father embezzling from the city, with the town’s funds earmarked for building a new Santa’s workshop. However, the other part of the scandal underneath, to her, lands on her.

This all happened the summer before, Rachel left for college. Her family went from local saviors to big-time villains, as if they were all, Scrooges that stole, Christmas. What she wasn't bargaining on was the guy she kissed, Gavin Blake, Olympic Snowboarder. Because the last she knew, the groom had written them both off that day. You see at one time, they were all best friends. That day the three left mad at each other.

Gavin had been a guy she had been crushing on in their friend group. So, the whole debacle was a pity. Coming home meant checking out all the variables. Like if, Gavin was in Austria or not. And he was. However, the bride did leave out that he was the best man. Her mom had left out that, Gavin had bought the house right next door.

There is so much to unpack in this story. So much hurt, bruised egos, lost time, accusations, and more. Gavin plans on helping her since he feels back then, he left her flapping in the wind. She came back because her friends from her current life like her had back-home issues they wanted to lay to rest. These were hers. So, does Gavin go from the naughty list to the nice? Read to see. I do have to say it is a little hard in some places to keep up or figure out what's going on. Luke is a pisher. Did not like throughout the whole book.

Christmas is the time for miracles, new beginnings, good tidings, and joy. The town of Yuletide seems to have forgotten what it used to stand for, with its year around Christmas celebration. Instead of generosity, kindness, and team spirits, everyone pulling together, there are a lot of negative undercurrents, greed, and unforgiveness, and false accusations.
After eight long years, Rachel Chambers finally comes back home to Yuletide to face her past. One kiss at the wrong time as a young girl and it seems like the whole town turns against her, taking upon herself her father's sins as well as the blame of humiliating the town favorite son.
Rachel has spunk, courage, kindness, and strength to a great measure. And she is going to need it all to face the town and their allegations. But most of all, she is going to need it when facing Gavin Blake again.
Gavin is about eight years late, but now more than before he is fighting for Rachel, standing next to her as she faces the town and her former boyfriend Luke.
I liked the spark and chemistry between Rachel and Gavin. The connection between them was magical, and the emotions churning between them were delightful. Rachel and Gavin obviously belong together, it was adorable to see them trying to find their way to each other again, after all the turbulent years between them.
While I rejoiced about the connection between Gavin and Rachel, I struggled with the rest of the story. The negativity of the town that they still carried after eight years, the fact that Rachel even felt like she had to beg for forgiveness from Luke, while it was him who cost all the trouble, didn't sit with me well. I felt like that was such a big part of the story, but the resolution wasn't really there, Luke was getting married to someone else yet so focused on Rachel, the past, and all the negativity.
Second chances and forgiveness, learning to move on, accepting your responsibility of the past, and finding a happiness for your future - there's a lot of simmering under the joyful Christmas celebration in the town of Yuletide, and each and everyone has to take a moment and evaluate their lives as Rachel and Gavin are fumbling towards their new beginnings while trying to amend the old wounds.

This book is about not just second chance romance, but a lot of other second chances. Rachel rekindles a relationship with an old flame and puts out other fires all over town, almost from the minute she returns home to the less charitable Christmas-themed town her father helped create then stole from.

A great series launch: the premise that a trio of gal pals make a pact, based on a radio life coach’s advice, to make peace with the past so they can move forward. That means each has to return to the place they escaped. For Rachel, that means clearing
the air with friends and a town that blamed her for her father’s sins, so she can attend her former BFF’s wedding to her ex-boyfriend, who still hates Rachel for the sins he thinks she committed —kissing another man, their other friend, at the exact moment he was trying to woo her back by skywriting a proposal in front of the entire town and her father was absconding with $14,000 of the town’s cash. Hard to overcome that kind of bias from the groom in order to be there for the bride on her big day.

The only person besides the bride and her mom who don’t verbally shun her in public is the man she was caught kissing, Gavin. The groom forgave the Olympic snowboarder long ago for his part in the fiasco, but won’t Consider Rachel was as much a victim of bad timing as anyone else. And groom Luke’s mom leading the town’s pitchfork wielding charge only serves to add flame to the broiling discord.

This chase to earn a second chance to end her reign as the town pariah is fraught with craziness but Gavin, who’s playin hooky from Olympic training to be there for Luke hiss wedding week can’t help chasing Rachel and a second chance with the one woman who truly stirs more than his libido. He wants to come home to the one town that accepted the poor lonely rich boy and made him a part of their merriment.

I’m a sucker for second chance romance and this one has so many layers. And the big finale wasn’t quite what I would have predicted. The one thing I would have liked was to find exactly where Rachel’s dad ended up, what happened to him in the 8 years following his departure from Yuletide. And, to see justice served.

An enjoyable read that is easy render an honest review: go get a copy and enjoy the merriment, hilarity and force of this holiday read.

A Chance This Christmas by Joanne Rock
Growing up in the Christmas-crazed theme town of Yuletide was fun for fashion designer Rachel Chambers until a family scandal made her unwelcome. Eight years later, she’s home for a friend’s wedding and trying to go incognito… until her old flame spots her.

Snowboarder Gavin Blake wants to make things right with Rachel, and smoothing her way back in Yuletide seems like the best way to do just that. Making Rachel his date for a week of pre-wedding parties is sure to bring them closer. Except he underestimated how long a small town can carry a grudge–or how much the memory of a long-ago kiss could tempt him all over again.

As the wedding approaches, Rachel remembers all she loved about her close-knit, Christmas-loving neighbors. But even if she can win over the town again, will she be able to convince her footloose, mogul-shredding wedding date that they can find happiness beyond the holidays?
this is Rachel Chambers and Gavin Blake's story.
Sneaking back into her Christmas-crazed hometown—the quaintly renamed “Yuletide, New
York”—Rachel Chambers started to sneeze before she even reached her mother’s driveway.
Gavin was an international snowboard cross star. He traveled around the globe to chase
snow.He wouldn’t spend time in the tiny village of Yuletide now that he had a successful career of his own.
will she be able to convince her footloose, mogul-shredding wedding date that they can find happiness beyond the holidays? read this book to find out.
A Chance This Christmas by Joanne Rock is a wonderful well written 5 star book.
I highly recommend reading.

A Chance This Christmas by Joanne Rock was another brilliant masterpiece. This lady, can write well. I have not once experienced anything but heartfelt tales and unforgettable characters. Immediately, this story swept me off my feet. Sent me straight into the book. I felt everything the characters said and did.

A lot of past anger, regrets, and a bubbling romance are found here. I was cheering for the protagonists all the way. Their story started at the same time several big depressing events occurred. A young woman returned back home, and faced the past. At first, it wasn't easy. But with some help, a lot of patience, and some holiday romance, it got better each time.

Rachel was a young woman when her father embezzled money from their town. When her father did this, her past boyfriend proposed to her publicly. But she declined him. With that the town blamed her for her father's actions and for hurting the town's hero. However, that wasn't all. Rachel was caught kissing her former boiyfriend's best friend. And he did nothing to help her. Now, after all those years, Rachel has finally come back home. Facing the past, making amends, and then moving forward...until one man from her past jilts her world upside down again.

Gavin has always liked Rachel. But since his best friend liked her, he stayed away. Until he found out the two weren't together. But just as he finally got Rachel, all hell broke loose. Not once did he go to Rachel's side defending her. Now, with Rachel back in town, Gavin planned to win her over and help her face their town. Nothing comes easy...

A Chance This Christmas is a charming tale about mending the past, forgiving, and second chances at happiness. Joanne Rock created characters that were easy to love. I enjoyed following them as they grew. The romance was hot, the chemistry was felt, and the emotions were everywhere. Even the small characters were believable and enjoyable to read. Overall, I highly recommend this contemporary Christmas novel to all.

“A Chance this Christmas” is book three in Joanne Rock’s Road to Romance series and is Rachel’s story.

Rachel Chambers returns to Yuletide to make amends with her ex-boyfriend while hoping she doesn’t run into a former crush OR get chased out of town because of her father’s crime.
Gavin Blake is in Yuletide for his friend’s wedding while taking time off from his snowboarding career. He also bought a house in Yuletide along Main Street, the Jingle Elf house, and needs to figure out how he’ll set up the house as a tourist attraction so he’ll help bring in more money for the town. His house is also next door to Rachel’s childhood home, Teeny Elf house, and where her mother still lives.
When he sees a figure in the dark, he immediately recognizes Rachel. Regretting how they parted eight years ago, he wants to make it up to her and find out if the attraction is still there. And it is – their chemistry still burns hot like a blazing fire in a cold room.
Gavin and Rachel attend wedding events – the groom just so happens to be the ex-boyfriend – and try to let the folks of Yuletide know that Rachel had nothing to do with her father’s disappearance.

“A Chance this Christmas” is about second chances – for Rachel on a person level, for Rachel and Gavin and their relationship, and for the town itself to once again be what Rachel’s father initially envisioned.
Ms. Rock very creatively named the houses and locations to fit into a Christmas-themed romance as well as engaging this reader into wanting to find out if Rachel does make peace with the ex-boyfriend, with the residents of Yuletide, and with Gavin.
This story brings all the warmth and coziness like a mug of hot cocoa with marshmallows and that sometimes the best Christmas present someone can give is their heart filled with love.

I love Christmas and this book was the perfect book for me. It was a mix of "IT's a Wonderful Life" and "The Grinch Stole Christmas" all wrapped up in one really good read.

What if you lived in a town called Yuletide and it celebrated Christmas all year long. Not only that BUT your home was like Christmas threw up inside it. Think about this for a minute. You wake up and look downstairs and instead of a breakfast table and chairs you see Christmas display all year long. Elves, Mrs Claus and Santa. Too much oh so very much. Then to top it off something horrible happens to your family and you all become outcasts. I would take off and never return for sure.

Rachel has the idea right and does leave for a long time only to return for her best friend's wedding (by invitation from her best friend by the way). Only problem is her friend is getting married to Rachel's old high school boyfriend. Oh yes some things you need to read for yourself to understand but he is part of the reason she left Yuletide so quickly and never wanting to return.

Her mom is still in Yuletide did I forget to let ya know that. Yes she is there. So is another special someone. This was one of those books I cracked open at bedtime and read until I finished it wee in the night. I plan to back up and read books 1-2 in the Road to Romance series and well just to catch up...hope they are also in Yuletide as this town well, I happened to fall a little in love with it.

Rachel Chambers must face her past. Gavin Blake is the superstar come back home to put down roots. This is one of those books that you could see being a movie on the Hallmark Channel or even the new Passionflix channel.

I thought this book was a great way to get excited about the Winter Olympics that will be starting in about four months. I love watching Gavin’s sport and had no trouble picturing him out on the white powder performing for the crowd. With very little cold wind in the air it was a little tough getting excited about the holiday but I would do a re-read, as we get closer to December.

The author is very creative in how she created this story. Instead of one person being a Scrooge, we have a whole town. She then takes the time to create a character that you have no choice but to feel sorry for. Then we have the scenery. Ms. Rock has created a town that I could picture myself walking up and down the streets doing a little window shopping. The Epilogue leaves me with both a smile on my face and a feeling like things are just beginning. And the author was sweet to give her readers the titles of the other two books in the series. So if I want to give myself a Christmas gift I guess I know what it will be and I’m glad that I have the week between Christmas and New Year’s off – I can hunker down and enjoy my gift.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I truly enjoyed A Chance this Christmas by Joanne Rock, the third book in her Road to Romance series. When Rachel left her hometown the timing couldn’t have been worse. Her dad fled after embezzling money from the town, her ex-boyfriend hires a skywriter to propose to her, and she is caught kissing ex-boyfriend’s best friend Gavin. It was a relief for Rachel to reach design school and leave her troubles behind. Gavin attended a nearby prep school training to become a world class snowboarder. He enjoyed getting to know the teens in the town and interacting with them. After college and winning Olympic medals he returned to the town that never forgot Christmas, bought the house next door to Rachel’s mom and never forgot that kiss he shared with Rachel. When Rachel returns to Yuletide for the wedding of her best friend to her ex-boyfriend she hopes that the town will forgive her and to make amends with said ex-boyfriend. The chemistry and attraction Gavin and Rachel once shared is still there if not intensified. The more time these two spend together makes Rachel wonder if she can leave her dreams of NYC and give Gavin a second chance to explore the attraction and possible love they still share.

I really enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down, reading it in one day. Ms. Rock drew me in and did not let go until I read the last page. I definitely recommend this book to other readers.
