A marriage offer obligated by duty; an acceptance, compelled by desperation.

Betrayed once, Philomena entertains no notions of a love-match. Newly titled, Caution: This Regency historical romance contains a jaded lord whom the ladies adore, a scarred spinster, willing to sacrifice everything for her dying brother, a feisty, portly cat, and an audacious aunt who say precisely what she thinks.

What a breathtaking novella from Collette Cameron. She eloquently yet entertainingly takes readers into the lives of high society during London’s Season, creating a fantastically gossip inducing backdrop for this fun & romantic tale.
Cameron has created characters that both understand and flaunt the rules of the ton. They stand out without being too outrageous. I found myself easily imagining being in the characters’ positions. It was chilling and haunting, yet at the same time I truly envied them. Cameron really allowed their emotions to shine from the pages, creating the ultimate second chance romance. The intensity of their feelings, both good and bad, truly drew me in.
Short, sweet, emotional, and endlessly romantic. Once again Cameron has created the perfect tale to enchant readers for an afternoon.

I love most of these novellas of Collette Cameron, though she has become a hit and miss for me. One book she’ll have the hero and heroine as beautiful as I want them to be (keep in mind I’m shallow) and in the next book they are the opposite. In this one Philomena was full figured/plump, however you want to say it, but since it was less than 100 pages I went ahead and read it. I’m beginning to think I should give up on this author. She’s another one that wants to make book characters like the real world and I don’t read for that kind of heroine, especially when she’s paired with a hero who’s drop-dead gorgeous.
Also, I really hated that her brother Giles spent the entire book on his deathbed and he was only 27. That totally sucked. If you’re going to write less than 100 pages put some angst in it but not someone so young being so damn sick. Just sayin’
So, Bradford’s uncle was a piece of work, telling Bradford that Philomena and Giles, as well as their parents, were killed in a fire. Only to have Bradford and Philomena meet in the garden at a ball after seven years. They were found in a compromising situation by Philomena’s brother and as sick as he was he called Bradford out, or Bradford could marry his sister, Bradford's choice. Giles collapsed before the argument could go much further. Then he remained unconscious for the next ten days. It was a sweet romantic novella and also very sad.
Overall, I really did like this story.
There was no sex but there was desire. It really didn’t need sex. And there was no swearing.
AS to the narration: LOVE Stevie Zimmerman. Her voices and emotions while reading are awesome.
Philomena Pomfrett has endured much in her two and twenty years having lost her parents in a fire, a fire which has left her scarred, the betrayal of the love of her life & now her brother is dying from a heart ailment. She would love nothing more than to live a life of solitude but her brother’s dying wish is for her to marry before he passes so he will know she is taken care of. Which is why she is enduring a London season. Waiting in the garden for he brother Philomena escapes further in to avoid a would be suitor only to run into the one man she hoped to never see again.
Bradford, Viscount Kingsley, has returned to London after seven long years. Seven years in which he has tried to forget the devastation of losing the only woman he will ever love. At least he thought he had forgotten until he catches a glimpse of a beauty while at a ball that brings it all back. Escaping into the gardens to avoid matchmaking momma's Bradford is captivated by the golden haired beauty making the same wish he has made on a falling star. He feels he should know her.
Collette Cameron writes an outstanding novella full of betrayal, heartache, anger, tears and her own unique wit. Ms. Cameron’s ability to draw you into the characters will have you traveling the same roller coaster as Philomena & Bradford. So buckle in for a wonderful 5 star+ ride.
Another deleriosly happy ever after story, of course with a little angst thrown in. It starts out at the Whimpleton Ball, and it seems that this is definitely the ball to go to.
In this novella we see another two star crossed lovers, Bradford Kingsley and Philomena Pomfrett. It seems that they haven't seen each other in many years but when Bradford left he vowed ro come back to marry her. Anyway as in all good stories we have a villian who just happens to be Bradford's Uncle Viscount Kingsley and he does some despicable things to try to ensure they are seperated.
As you can see there would be alot of misunderstandings and hurt feelings that six years of seperation would cause. So when they finaly meet again it makes for a wonderfully interesting, heartfelt, agonising road to romance. A definite must read and if you haven't read the prior two books it's not nessesary but you would delight in reading them. they are well worth reading.
Great historical Regency . It's a standalone Hero is Bradley and heroine is Philomena
Philomena was at a ball trying to find a husband . She has no choice . Her brother is very sick and going to dye . Then she won't have anybody . Philomena long ago love is back with a title . A viscount . She thinks that he doesn't want anything to do with her . Meanwhile Bradley thinks she died in a fire . At one point they both are out in the garden but not together . Philomena sees a falling star and recites a poem and Bradley hears it but he doesn't recognize her . He kisses her . Philomena brother catches them . He tells Bradley he wants satisfaction. Either a duel or Marriage . Grab it and see which of the two will Bradley pick. Has the Brother have long to life . Does the misunderstanding be resolved
A very good short story. The heroine was hurt in a fire years ago and thought her first love didn't care. The hero thought her dead and left the country. Shortly after his return to England, they meet at a ball. No more info as I don't want to spoil this nice story.

Another heartwarming story by Collette Cameron. Philomena Pomfrett has determined she will never marry and become a spinster. Three years ago she was in a fire that took her parents and left her scarred. Here brother Bradford is all the family she has left, yet he is dying from a weak heart and it is just a matter of time. Trying to make her brother happy because she would be left destitute she agrees to attend the balls to try to find a husband. Bradford, Viscount Kingsley, returns to London after several years. He and Phil had been in love years ago and but he believed she had perished in the fire. When he comes face to face with her, what can a man do? Almost faint dead away? Will she be brave enough to again be tied to Bradford when she feels she is scarred an undesirable? You will let be this book and quickly want to pick up the next from this author.
2.5 stars rounded up to 3, because this wasn't bad. It just wasn't great, either. The plot surrounds a woman who was burned in a fire (deliberately started by the H's uncle) finding herself swept back up with him (the H, not the uncle- he's dead, thank goodness) at a party 7 years later. Her brother is terminally ill, and he wants to see her married soon so he can die at peace. Stuff ensues- sort of. The H and h randomly running into each other again after years and especially Bradford kissing Philomena without realizing who she was was a bit...hard to believe. As was Bradford being like,
It's very short (even for a novella), and I think it honestly could have benefitted from being more fleshed out. Had a chapter been added with the MC's in the past and some more pages spent on them getting reaquainted, there would have been opportunity to get to know them and be more invested in their relationship. The H and h were both likeable, but I never really felt like the H was all that developed. There was a brief impediment to their HEA about 3/4 of the way though, but it came and went incredibly quickly. There was also a bit of- dare I say it- cheese factor with this one. It's almost syrupy sweet, and everything just falls together so easily. Not bad if you want something quick and light, but I feel like it could have been better.
A final minor note, but one that bugs me- Bradford was Bradford Kingsley, Viscount Kingsley, which is not how that works. I can deal (as with Meg Cabot's HR's), but it's a mistake that is easily corrected.
I swear Collette Cameron nearly gave me a fit of the vapours with HER SCANDALOUS WISH! Philomena Pomfrett must marry as quickly as possible; her brother Giles has a fragile heart which could give out any day, and they are almost out of funds. Things look grim as Philomena was severely burned in a fire years before, where her parents died. The love of her life, Bradford, now Viscount Kingsley, vanished; she never heard from him, and Philomena’s heart was shattered. And so, trying to choose the less repulsive of her present suitors, who should be attending the Wimpleton’s ball, but Bradford.
This novella is grandiose! The story is extremely complex and fabulously compelling, there are plot twists every few pages, nothing happened the way I expected; at some places, I thought my heart would break. And what about the sumptuous, luminous, exquisite prose! Ms. Cameron is a wordsmith beyond compare! Every word is perfectly chosen, everything absolutely in context, the dialogues are glorious, there are a few quite humorous touches! Sublime!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
* I was given an ARC copy for a honest review. Philomena must wed as soon as possible her brother Giles is very ill and looking to have her settled and protected in a marriage before he is dies. As fates would intervene she runs into her former love whom was suppose to marry whom she feels ignored her after hearing of her scars.
Bradford is back in England just coming into his title, and still morns for the love his heart Philomena whom died in afire. One night at a ball he sees an angel in the garden at a ball. this angel is his love he thought whom had died in a fire. after being caught kissing her by her brother Giles he demands satisfaction, unless Bradford weds Philomena. Can they pick up where they left off seven years ago or has time and misinformation keep these to apart?
Collette has delivered a sweet romance that I highly recommend to anyone to read. its sweet funny (especially Bradford's aunt Muriel ) its not to fast and it not dragged out either. Once you start reading you wont stop till end.
Had me grinning from chapter one. It's always fun reading a Collette Cameron story. A heroine with scars on her body and soul, determined to stay a spinster, Philomena believes that her true love left because of her scars. A horrendous fire that left her homeless, and without parents, her only family left is her brother. However, her brother, sickly and on death's door, is determined to marry her off before he dies. Philomena is left without any choices. A wish upon a star brings her love back from the past. Only, she doesn't know that he thought her dead. The dialogue between the characters was fun to read. I loved that the heroine wasn't perfect. She had insecurities and doubts which made her character endearing. The hero, Bradford (after we find out his good reason for leaving) was honorable, sexy, and sweet. What more can we ask for? Shooting stars start the story with a wish and ends with that wish coming true for both of the characters.
I really enjoyed reading HER SCANDALOUS WISH is a wonderful Historical Regency by Collette Cameron. The book is about a lady who is determined to remain a spinster but has agreed to a London Season to “find a husband” because her brother is dying and there will be no one to take care of her and she will have no place to live. Of course she has already given her heart to someone a few years ago and after a family fire where her parents died she never heard from him again.
Will she find a husband during this season? Will her brother make it long enough to see her married? Will she find someone to love her that she loves in return? These are all questions that will be answered in the book so if you want to know the answers, you must get this terrific book and read it today; you will love it!
This novella was well written. And it seemed to stay true to its Regency backdrop. While I wasn't looking for a 'clean' romance, this was definitely one, with mildly sexually suggestive references. So - for those who carped on it being 'not clean'...I don't get it. For the young H/h, some spark should be shown in the book! With that...I didn't find much of a scandal in the story. What little 'scandal' there was, was really nothing big, judging by the characters' reactions. It was like the author tried to milk it, without much success. This book was a tiny bit of fluff, really. It was only part of a book. (I've read other novellas, and even short stories with more meat)... There was a lot of dialog in the book as well. Normally, I love dialog between the characters. But in this case...that's basically all there was. I'm disappointed in this read.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Once again, Miss Cameron’s way with words gave birth to a wonderful and enjoyable story filled with an array of emotions ranging from love to hate mixed with hurt feelings and a load of humoristic moments. I have to admit I laughed out loud quite a few times and, at other times, my heart bled.
I won’t get into the particular of the story as the blurb resumes it rather well. But all I’ll say is that this is a story of betrayals and second chances. Will the two protagonists find love again or will life yet again push them in different directions? Follow Philomena Pomfrett and Bradford, the newly-titled Viscount Kingsley, in a story filled with plot twists, love, angst, humor... it has it all.
This is an adorable novel by Collette Cameron. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the second chance love story of Bradford and Phil.
This is the third novella in the in the Waltz with a Rogue series. Each book begins at the Wimpleton ball, where lost loves are reunited. Bradford and Phil were childhood sweethearts separated by the Machination of another. For 7 years Bradford thought his first Love Phil died in a fire and Phil thought Bradford abandoned her when she needed it the most.
As Bradford and Phil come face to face at the Wimpleton ball the love they thought long buried begins to stir. But they are no longer the carefree youths there once where. Will they be able to find their way back to each other and the love they once had.
Loved the story of the sister who is "defective", her own terms to describe her burns. She loses the love of her life, they were engaged to be married, he supposedly drops her, when he finds out how serious the burns are. Her brother is dying from saving her life. He wants to see her married, before he dies. Finally, at a ball ,but who should appear? Wonderful, love story, true love is when things don't go right, and love does conquer all! Must Read!
I'm not use to reading romance novels but this one is set in 1818 with as lot of morals and insight to that period of time. I think you will enjoy this as much as I did if you have a heart!
A sweet tale of lost love. A little steamy, but not too much. Made me want to read the rest of the stories in the series and I would for sure reccomend this to friends.
Philomena Pomfrett has had a tragic few years. Her parents died in the fire that scarred her body and heart badly, her first love left her after the fire, and her brother is now suffering from a heart ailment that will take him within months. Philomena and her brother only have enough money for one London season, and her brother is determined to see her safe and settled before he passes.
Bradford, Viscount Kingsley, left London seven years ago after he was told his first love and his best friend died in a fire. Returning to England after this long absence, he is thrust into the spotlight that a rich titled bachelor inevitably attracts. While attending a ball, he glimpses a familiar figure across the room. The sweet blonde drew him, even though he'd avoided light haired women for years as they reminded him of his lost love.
Bradford sneaks out of the ball and meets this mysterious blonde in the garden. They both unknowingly make a wish on the same shooting star, and Bradford steals a kiss that is returned with interest. Her brother finds them there in a compromising position (what ISN'T compromising in Regency England?) and demands Bradford duel or marry. Bradford is happy to make the honorable offer, but Philomena is afraid to trust him and leave herself open to abandonment again.
The book is #3 in a series, but is read easily as a stand alone book. I haven't read the previous two and had no trouble, there weren't numerous references to other couples in the series.
This one kept me entertained and happy. It was short and sweet, and even though we didn't spend much time with them, the characters were lovable. I did enjoy the relationship between Philomena and her brother, and think that the book could have been expanded easily to include more of their relationship. I'm giving it three stars because it was an enjoyable read without any editing issues, but probably won't read it again. I would definitely recommend it for someone with a spare hour or two to spend!
When I first started this book, I didn’t think I would accept whatever reason Ms. Cameron came up with for keeping these two apart for so long – but I was wrong! Philomena and Branford were in love, but 6 years ago, he believed she perished in a fire and he was heartbroken. Over the years he has become a rake, but no woman has touched his heart and he knows that no one ever will. Newly returned for the Caribbean and still adjusting to the title he never expected to inherit, he attends a ball with his sister and is shocked to find out that Philomena is still alive. Philomena is trying to grant her brother’s wish to marry before he dies, she spies Bradford and slips out on the terrace to avoid him, she was badly burned in the fire that killed her parents and almost died herself, but what hurt the most was Brandford’s desertion. When the two share a kiss and are caught by her brother, he demands the Branford either meets him for a duel or marries his sister. Unwilling to fight, he offers for Philomena, who begs her brother to retract his challenge. When her brother collapses, she frantically agrees to marry. These two must get to know each other again and there will be many obstacles in the road to their HEA – but what an amazing journey it is!!
*I received a copy of the collection from the author in exchange for my honest review
This is my favorite so far! Many emotions and a few twists I didn’t see coming. It was a whirlwind of events and I loved it. I did not expect the twist of what he thought had happened to them or the stuff about his uncle. I loved that they were drawn together in the dark. His aunt again adds to everything.
Philomena thought no man would ever love her because of her scars. I loved her because of how much she loved her brother and wanted to make him happy. She also spoke her mind at all times.
Bradford was left heartbroken because of his uncle’s lies. I felt for him as he thought about her and then when he saw her. I loved him in the first book and more in this one because it told his story more.
A wonderful tale about second chances! Philomenia is considered a scarred spinster! Having lost her parents in a fire, she must marry! Her brother is dying and he wants to make sure Philomenia is taken care of. The only problem is Philomenia has met the man of dreams and was betrayed! Bradford the new Viscount Kingsley loved Philomenia and after the fire was led to believe (by His own Uncle) she also died in the fire. While attending a ball he sees her and kisses her! Her brother finds them and forces a marriage. They must learn to put the lies behind them and trust again. For neither one had stopped loving the other!
1. I find it stupid that Bradford wasn't able to recognize Philomena's voice. Granted that he didn't know she was alive, but at least he could say that the woman he met in the grover sounded like his dead beloved. Was she a dream/illusion because he kept thinking of her? Or is it because of his wish an angel that sounded like Philomena made an appearance? Something like that.
2. I find Bradford's reasons for not marrying Philomena immediately shallow.
3. It wasn't explained how they settled the contract with the Southwarks. I'm sure the father will ask for a compensation or challenge a duel. Especially if they went to great lengths on stopping the two lovebirds from getting married.
This engrossing story is about a fire scarred young lady and a newly titled Viscount who very luckily have a second chance at love because of the clever scheming of her dying brother. The Viscount's aunt also plays an important role in their lives. I spent a good few hours reading and thoroughly enjoying this well thought out and written story which has a re-blossoming love affair at the fore, the sadness of watching a brother die day by day and an aunt who is quite wonderful and very funny in the background. Collette Cameron has done a great job of entertaining me with this novella and I am very happy to recommend it.
This was a lovely novella that sent you on an array of emotions from hurt feelings, to sick/dying brothers, humor, romance and loving families. Philomena Pomfrett and Bradford, the newly-titled Viscount Kingsley made a delightful couple and I also, loved his family - what a hoot they were!
I won’t get into the the details of the story, as it has been done several times by other reviewers but this is a tale of second chances and betrayals of the worst kind. I highly recommend this book and the series - you won't be disappointed!
