Joey Darling, actress and detective by default, is reminded of this point daily. If only problems could be solved in sixty minutes, complete with commercial breaks, closing credits, and a catchy theme song.
Joey accompanies Detective Jackson Sullivan to a crime scene, only to discover she knows the victim. After a friend is accused of murder, Joey can’t refuse her help—however bumbling it might be. Unfortunately, she only seems to dig up more questions instead of desperately needed answers.
When a misguided fan offers clues, Joey discovers something much deeper than a single crime. But can she sort through all the various story lines to get to the truth? Or will one blooper after another put not only the investigation in jeopardy but her life as well?
Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
I love Christy Barritt's books and this has to be my favorite series by her so far. Joey is just so adorably clueless and so funny and I laughed out loud like three times in the first chapter alone. She is one of the few authors who makes me laugh.
In BLOOPER FREAK Joey's friend Gabe has gone to South Carolina to get away from some friends who are a bad influence. But when a man witnesses a murder, the murderer he describes is Gabe! Gabe is arrested but pleads innocence, but Joey isn't sure if she can believe him or not. He lied about going to South Carolina!
When another murder occurs another local bad boy is framed and the police begin to realize maybe someone else is getting away with murder. But a misguided fan is offering vague clues and Joey scrambles to figure them out to find the real killer and free her friend Gabe.
If you like cozy mysteries, you will love Christy Barritt. Don't miss any of the books in this series:

I really love this series and Blooper Freak was no different, it had me smiling from the start :) Joey and Jackson are becoming closer and the "friendship" between them was really sweet in this one. There are TONS of movie references in this that were just so funny for me! I understood them all and they are just perfectly written from Joey's sense of humor. I didn't fully get what the crime was about in this one, but I found that Joey's investigation skills are improving; she gets to climb a tree in this one, drive a criminal's car-with permission, and she crashes a car towards the end in a crazy but great way to survive way! NEVER a dull moment with this woman and it's wonderful to see her heart is healing from her abusive ex-husband. Oh and her mom makes an appearance in this one, but it is NOT a happy moment! Am hoping this series continues on, I enjoy it so much :)
Blooper Freak is the fifth installment in the Joey Darling's The Worst Detective Ever Mystery series by Christy Barritt. With mystery and romance, the story centers around a dead body found buried in the sand. Joey continues to use her detective skills from Raven Remington to solve this mystery. With a trail of clues and interviews, Joey is on the way to solving the mystery. But this time around, a friend is accused of being the murderer, so Joey is more determined to clear her friend's name. The romance between Joey and Detective Jackson Sullivan heats up a little more with this installment. Not too cliché romance novel romance, but a romance which grows with respect and admiration as Jackson and Joey learn to trust and learn more about each other. The plot moves quickly as Joey and Jackson work as a team to solve the mystery. I finished the book in a couple of hours, flying through the pages. Overall, Blooper Freak is another wonderful installment in this series. I can't wait to read more of Christy Barritt's writing.
I received a complimentary copy of Blooper Freak from Christy Barritt, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Blooper Freak is the fifth book in The Worst Detective Ever series by Christy Barritt. Joey Darling is entertaining and clueless as she tries to use her “detective skills” to help solve a murder. She lands in the middle of things, of course, causing all sorts of problems and dilemmas. I enjoy Christy Barritt’s sense of humor and the crazy things her characters go through. I’m looking forward to the next installment in the series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I am absolutely loving this series from Christy Barritt. In Blooper Freak, the crime Joey Darling stumbles upon turns personal when a friend is accused of committing it.
More pop culture references (seriously, acting out Chariots of Fire? HILARIOUS), self-deprecating humor, and a swoony protector are just a few reasons why this series is so great. And it doesn’t hurt at all that Joey herself is famous but flawed, and someone I can’t wait to hang out with again.

Joey and Jackson stumble upon a body in the sand. Jackson investigates to confirm the person is deceased and Joey recognizes the man. She has been tagging along with Jackson doing PR for the Outer Banks by tweeting about her adventures with the Nags Head PD. They have also begun dating which complicates things a bit.
The number one suspect of the murder turns out to be Joey's good friend Zane Oakley. She doesn't think he could possibly have done it but he's been acting odd lately so something is not right. Joey is determined to prove Zane's innocence and find the real murderer. Once again she works the crime from her own angle against Jackson's wishes while trying not to get dragged too far into the danger.
She learns more about her father and again wonders how her mom is involved in everything. It seems she might be part of the Barracudas, an organization using illegal drugs and guns to fund whatever they are trying to do. Who else is involved? Who are Joey's stalker fan club? Who can she trust?
I'm completely sucked in to the story and really wonder what happened to her dad and whether he's still alive. I want Joey and Jackson to work out but he is entrenched in the Outer Banks and Joey is still trying to figure out whether she wants to return to Hollywood after she finds answers about her dad. Can they find a way to successfully mingle their lives and ambitions?
Joey is finally feeling like her life is back on track. He movie has done so well in the box office the IRS is no longer garnishing her wages so she doesn't have to cut hair anymore, which she managed to do without any major hair incidences but why test it. She is now living in a condo that is more affordable even if it is owned and directly below Winston Corbina. She and Jackson seem to be good terms and it might be almost time to go to the next level, and their working relationship is steady. If she could only find her dad then everything would be just about perfect. Then one day she s at the crime scene and realizes it Billy Corbina's employee that's dead, and it looks like Zane is the culprit. She knows her happy go lucky buddy is innocent, but all the evidence says otherwise, and the fact she didn't even know he was back in town has even her second guessing herself. However, she jumps in head first to get to the bottom of it, once again putting herself in harms way, much to Jackson's chagrin. She can't just let her friend go to prison though, no matter what the people around her think. You can tell the series is starting to get near the end because some of your questions get answered in this book, and you see the pieces starting to fall into place. It is a really fast read, and enjoyable, but my biggest problem is they end so quickly!
These are just getting better by the read!! I see you miss Christy Barritt and I appreciate the growth!
The character development goes several layers deeper for everyone! We see our three main characters stretched a bit further and it's really enjoyable to read through it.
There's also lots more heart and caring in this one than in the previous reads and it just makes your heart gooey happy.
The mystery on Joey's father also takes a dramatic turn and leaves us with a "gasp" that makes you excited to see where things are going... and with absolutely no clue about where they will go! And that is exactly what we want in a mystery detective series!! Another tick for Christy Barritt!
Joey's stalkers also drop a major bomb that has me super suspicious of someone key in the story but also not sure if it's a stretch or not to suspect them! It is just crazzzzyyyyy!!! And I love it!
Of course because of all the above mentioned it absolutely makes sense that I breezed through the book in 2 sittings! (could have been one but a girl's got to live!haha) So in short.. fun, chaos, bombs were dropped, the mystery got thicker, hearts were tagged at and more fun! A very delightful read hence the 5 stars!!
I love a quote from this book, “Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be great.” We all struggle with this from time to time. We think our life should be put together, and every piece put in place, but that doesn’t often happen. Joey Darling is a big superstar, and what might look like it’s put together, isn’t very often. She still has those moments of doubts. Her life is far from perfect, yet she has people in her life who are always there for her. Unfortunately, one of those friends is having a tough time and he asks Joey to help him out. This gets Joey into so many dangerous situations. Thankfully, she has Jackson who is by her side. This book is another one of those books I didn’t want to put down, and when the end of it came I verbally said, NO! I really can’t say enough praise for Christy Barritt’s way of writing. She brings you right into the story and you don’t want to leave. This story has suspense, action, drama, and bits of romance. It leaves you wanting to find out what’s next for Joey Darling. I can’t wait for the next one to come out! I was given this book by the author to give an honest review and I highly recommend it!
Another great addition to the Worst Detective Ever series. Joey is just as entertaining as ever, I absolutely loved her inner thoughts. The time spent entertaining herself at the crime scene made me really laugh. Zane has been accused of murder and Joey doesn’t believe he did it, so she is determined to search for answers. In typical Joey fashion, she end up putting herself in danger a couple of times, but thankfully there is always someone looking out for her (even if one of those people end up being her stalker). I haven’t really been much of a Zane fan, but even I didn’t want to believe that he could be a murderer. There were twists thrown in that kept me guessing who was behind everything. The ending left Joey with some tidbits about her parents that should help with solving the case of her missing father. Each character is unique and I enjoy spending time with them. I am team Jackson and hope for the best going forward. Thankfully we only have to wait a month for the next book to see where her search takes her next.
(I received this book free from the Ms. Barritt; opinions expressed in this review are my honest opinion and completely my own.)
Joey Darling really is The Worst Detective Ever, but, that is precisely why I love this series, and her, as much as I do. Her life is messy, she gets herself into the absolutely craziest situations, she's funny and frequently clueless, and she drives Jackson crazy with her stunts. But, oh, that's what makes this series so much fun to read!
Blooper Freak, all of the books have such fun titles, is the 5th book in the series and a delightful addition. It's a screwball comedy and murder mystery, with a dash of romance, all rolled into one.
Reading Blooper Freak only continued to solidify my growing belief that this is quickly becoming my favorite Christy Barritt series. And while Joey did manage to solve this mystery I am now even more anxious to find out more about the overarching mystery; where is Joey's dad, who is her Super Stalker Fan Club, and just what has she accidentally gotten herself into??? Only time, and more Christy Barritt books will tell...
(I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are entirely my own.)

Can I just say how much I love the narrator for the audiobook version of Blooper Freak? Her voice is perfect for Joey Darling and truly brings Christy Barritt's wonderful Worst Detective Ever Mysteries to life. The sound and production quality is excellent, couldn't be better, and provided the perfect listening experience. Loved this audiobook and the series...can't wait for more!

I’m giving up on this series. Can someone who didn’t please tell me:
1. What happened to her dad? 2. Did the dowager aunt-in-law have anything to do with it? 3. If not, did she exist solely to own a souvenir and give Joey a job…or did the author ever do anything interesting with her? If so, what? 4. Did Joey end up with the cop who lets her do whatever she wants for no reason? 6. …or was there a sinister reason??? 7. What happens with/to Zane?
Side note: a book series has to be pretty disappointing for someone with THIS MANY burning/unanswered questions to give up on it exactly halfway through…just keep that in mind.
Edit: feel free to add me as a friend if you prefer to pm the answers. I acknowledge the slight possibility that the series may take a turn for the better, rendering it worth not-ruining for someone who share its values
Blooper Freak is the fifth book in the Worst Detective Ever series. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record here, but, seriously, this series just keeps getting better and better. When a friend is accused of murder, and with more and more evidence stacking up against him, Joey will stop at nothing to prove his innocence. The mystery had many possible leads and I never figured it out. The last half of this book flew by. I couldn't read it fast enough. A little bit more information is brought to light concerning Joey's dad and it feels like we're inching ever closer to finding out what happened to him. I'm beyond exited to find out what happens next in Flaw Abiding Citizen! Highly recommend this series!
I have really enjoyed this series and am happy to report that Book 5 is still as good as Book 1. The story is still moving along well without getting old. Joey still finds herself in the middle of trouble, and her involvement becomes a bit more clear in this book (I can’t go into detail without spoiling anything). I really like her interaction with Jackson. Zane has a much smaller role in this book, and that’s ok (don’t get me wrong, I like his character, but I like the direction things are going). This was a quick, clean read. The ending was a perfect setup for more without being a cliff hanger. I liked how the main issue in this book was solved with clues about things to come.
No one can make solving crime, especially murder, more humorous than Joey Darling in the Worst Detective Ever series. This time, Joey's good friend Zane is in the crosshairs and accused of murder and more. Since Joey is a true, loyal friend, she agrees to investigate which leads to more tension with more-than-friend detective Jackson. Each case leads closer to danger, stalker fans and hopefully her missing father. Here's another must-read page turner from the talented Christy Barritt.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
So I had a little time today and I picked up Christy Barritt's latest in her "Worst Detective Ever" series. I expected a great read and I wasn't disappointed.
Joey begins to get some answers about her parents, what happened to her mom more than twenty years ago and why her father disappeared. Zane finds himself in trouble. Jackson and Joey keep getting closer (though something is said that makes me think Jackson is being set up to be revealed as one of Joey's RELENTLESS stalker fans).
I'm eagerly awaiting book 6; so glad it's coming soon!
Poor Joey, just when she thinks that things are going to be normal, her friend is accused of murder. She realizes that she needs to do what she can to help him, but it might come at a cost with her boyfriend as he does not want her to get involved. As Joey bumbles on, she finds herself involved in more than she bargained for. I really enjoy seeing how Joey manages to keep finding herself involved in things as she tries to stay out of it, but instead just finds herself deeper and deeper involved.
I love this series because the main character, Joey, is very relatable. Joey is very kind hearted, puts others first above herself but lacks in confidence. She is always getting involved with solving a murder and this time it is to help her friend Zane. She gets into situations before thinking and Jackson seems to always get her out of a jam. A very fun read with humor and heart. This is one of my favorite series of books by the author. I received this book from Christy Barritt My review is my own opinion and words.
I absolutely love the characters, the story, the humor, the series! I am so glad the whole series is out because I started reading when just the first three were out and decided I wouldn’t pick any of them up until the whole story was out because I hated waiting to know what would happen next! Once they all came out, I reread the first three (which I usually don’t reread books), but the humor made it easy to reread! Plus, there were plenty of details that made it great to review. This author is quickly becoming a favorite! Love her sense of humor!
Blooper Freak by Christy Barritt is book 5 in the Worst Detective Series. In this book, Joey goes with Jackson to a report of a homicide and discovers that the victim is someone they know and all indications are that Zane was the culprit. Zane left town recently and has just returned. But what was he up to? Jackson is convinced that Zane is guilty and Joey is determined to set him free. This is a great addition to this series. It can be read as a standalone novel. But don't miss any of these wonderful books! They just keep getting better and better!
This is the 5th book in the Worst Detective Ever series and I am beginning to feel like Joey Darling is a friend of mine. In this book, a friend of Joey's is accused of murder and she feels like she has to help. In true Joey/Raven(the detective she played on TV) fashion, she begins to ask questions and gets in trouble! If you have read any of the other books in this series, this is a "must read" because of several events (and 1 special appearance) that happens. When you read this, remind yourself to breathe - it gets that intense in parts!!
Blooper Freak, the newest in Christy Barritt's Worst Detective series, definitely will not disappoint. Only Joey Darling could make solving crimes a laugh out loud hilarious time. Even though she tends to get herself in some pretty sticky situations, her actions and inner thoughts will keep the reader entertained. Can't wait for book #6 to see what happens next!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Christy Barritt writes the best cozy mysteries. I have read every single one of her books. The 'Worst Detective Ever' is her newest series. Blooper Freak is the 5th book in the series. When her friend Zane is accused of murder Joey becomes intent on proving him innocent despite the fact he is looking awfully guilty. Likewise, she wants to find her father. A lovely mystery with a sprinkle of romance and a bucketful of humor.
I loved this book! I loved all the intertwined happenings throughout the book. Joey Darling is once again getting involved with the investigations of a murder. I really like the way her close friend is pulled into the murder as a suspect. Joey’s support of him throughout the book is touching. I also like how the relationship with Joey and Jackson is developing into a strong connection between them. A great book to read. I highly recommend it.
These stories are a quick read and very addictive. I love the characters and Christy Barritt keeps getting Joey into lots of pickles with at least of them life threatening. I'm enjoying the dynamic between Jackson and Joey. I'm usually pretty good at picking up the clues and putting them together working out the culprit before the big reveal but Chrissy Barritt keeps me guessing in every story.
Yay!! I just finished the latest Joey Darling book. My problem is I have to wait until next month for the next one. Each book canbe read as a stand alone but reading in order adds to your enjoyment. I love the vivid characters, the suspenseful storyline and the Nags Head beach setting. I recommend this book to those who love cozy mysteries with a romantic twist
Man oh man. I could not put this down. I love how well Christy writes her characters and draws you in from the get go. I can not wait to see what happens next with Joey and Jackson. How will Zane play into the mix with everything? November can not get here fast enough to find out.
Another great installment in The Worst Detective Ever Series, but Joey does seem to be getting better at finding clues and solving the crimes! There were some surprises in this book (some good, some not so good), as Joey came face to face with someone from her past, and her relationships with Zane and Jackson went through some changes. Looking forward to Book #6 coming out soon!
