I'm sorry this series is just simply boring to me - it's too typical and doesn't make me want to read it. I've read this plot a hundred other times and it doesn't look like this is going to be doing anything interesting with this idea so I won't be continuing.

The amount of times I squealed, giggled, and kicked my feet during this volume was insane.

This is such a cute, feel good, romance manga with an interesting love triangle. I am addicted 💕

Review this manga was so cute I love the friendship she has with the guys and her friend Aya turned out to be a guy omg I didn't see that coming and Towa seems a little jealous . I think this a really light and fun series .

This book took a very exciting turn that allows us to learn more about the MC Mitsuki, especially her childhood friend Aya. Who has returned from moving to America. We see how the two connected and how they pushed each other to achieve their dreams and be able to do everything they wanted like Aya playing basketball. In this volume continues the growth that Mitsuki is making to be more confident and getting more friends. Not only is Aya back but Mitsuki and Towa are so much closer, but that could change from Aya’s arrival. I hope that like in Blue Flag the discussion of feelings becomes more open, but because of the rule of basketball players being unable to date I kinda doubt it. Overall, a really exciting volume and I’m looking forward to the next volume.

It’s an okay series, I don’t think I’m going to read on. I’ve read this story so many times before and I don’t want to get bored tbh 😁

This vol started with a bang that gave it enough momentum to create the romantic and competitive tension and upheld it well throughout. It also managed to neatly balance the tension with some comedic moments that always stemmed from the group of boys and their shenanigans.

The friendship between Mitsuki and the boys solidified itself and their interactions were so genuine and great to see. It was nice to have more than just the romance develop in this.

Updated Review 10/17/21: And I have officially left on the feels train express for this manga! I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!

Original Review 7/19/21: I feel like Reina, but the opposite in the sense of telling other characters DON'T MESS WITH MY MITSUKI X TOMA SHIP!!!! *angry face*

I'm just going to say that out of the manga I've read, this had one of the most sweetest/romantic moment I've ever read. Goodness, I felt like a teenage girl as I laughed and giggled because it was SOOOOO adorable. Just *happy sigh* be still my heart. So so so good!

Once again, I feel these characters have surprised me in that what I THINK they will do, they do not. And that's not a bad thing! I loved Toma's honest with Mitsuki in this volume, though I feel so bad for Mitsuki with the new developments we have, uh, since encountered from the first volume.

And with those new developments, I'll leave it as this…

DON'T MESS WITH MY SHIP, AYA-CHAN!

Wow, further proof that I have great instincts because this bored me, was super cliche, and I had to skim it to get through it. I'm going to skim another volume for the zero to two Ryuji panels per chapter and then I'm out. I am shocked by the hype for this series.

Mitsuki is a shy and socially awkward girl who struggled to make friends in middle school. Now as she enters high school she vows to make an ultimate friend! Towa, Kyosuke, Ryuji and Rui are the stars of the boys' basketball team and not what she was looking for, but after a huge misunderstanding they befriend Mitsuki... whether she wants them to or not! Add in an odd girl with her own ideas about this foursome and a long-haired guy who could give beauty queens a run for their money and we have Mitsuki's new high school life!

This is a review of volumes 1-2 which I read together back to back. See the plot section for my thoughts on the individual volumes.

I'm part of a reading challenge this year to break me out of my comfort zone and since this is only February I really wanted to give it my all and not fail this early in the year... so I had to get creative with the prompt - a sports romance and finally decided I would give a sports shoujo manga a try! I hits the lists of popular sports romance and found Waiting for Spring vol 1-2 and WOW!!!

Waiting for Spring vol 1-2 was so good and actually it is quite a bit more depthful than most manga stories... I loved the combination of the boys friendship with how they interact with Mitsuki alone and as a group. Then we have the girl she does befriend... All of these meet cutes are sooooo adorable!! It makes for an exciting start to these friendships... however another friend is about the rock the nice little group of friendships as a person from Mitsuki's past returns!! I LOVE this person and how they arrive on the scene and totally turn this manga on its head... I've never been so excited by a shoujo manga and only on vol 1 and 2!

I enjoy coming of age stories about girls finding themselves and trying to figure out life. This time I feel like Waiting for Spring vol 1-2 has a focus on what's important, finding the courage to be friends with others that Mitsuki really likes. The romance is slow burn and that's good! That's how it is in high school honestly. And I really enjoy how everyone is quite nice as people too. This isn't just some squeeeee romance where the girl is really ditzy and crushing on a boy. Mitsuki is in earnest about making friends and overcoming her social shyness. At the same time she is wondering if she's found a boy that she wants to be more with. It's quite well balanced!

The art accentuates all of this!! First we have these four boys who are admittedly cute and VERY WELL DRAWN! Hahahaha I feel like they are really an excellent group of friends and that comes out through the art very well. Their character designs totally support their star status and you can see why Mitsuki is intimidated at first, but then she sees that they really do have a dream about basketball and she admires it so much. I feel like Reina, Mitsuki's new "girl" friend really comes to like through the art too, I totally love how odd and yet totally perfect socially Reina is.

Talking about balance there is this wonderful tension that starts right away from the moment we meet Mitsuki. She has set herself up in a situation that is HARD! She has a goal though and is trying to realistically maneuver toward it in Waiting for Spring vol 1-2. The boys totally complicate her life but at the same time are a fun and lively addition. They become motivation for Mitsuki to continue to push herself and step out of her comfort zone. This with vol 2 we get a new character (yes, already! that is how well the other boys are developed!) and he ratchets up the tension and totally complicates things further.

Waiting for Spring vol 1-2 are the BEST start to a sports romance that has slow burn, a love triangle that makes total sense, a coming of age where friends, a sports passion and an awkward girl combine for a shoujo manga that is fun and full of unexpected depth!! I will TOTALLY be checking out vol 3-4 next and see what happens with this mix of friendships and potentially more...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art

This is a multi-volume series and there may be references to the plot of those volumes... SO READ WITH CARE! Here is my review of 1 | 2 |

Very cute but kind of boring. Mitsuki and Towa are really cute and aya is a weirdo sorry.
the basketball team is awesome and I'm sad they aren't going to spend more time in the coffe shop with Mitsuki. Also her moments with Towa were really cute and we love a guy who respects the girl and doesn't invade her personal space.
Also she's uncomfortable with Aya now but i think that's gonna change to create some drama. However i hope she will support Towa and his friends during the HS games.
Also i would like to know what's the deal with Reina. I think she's obsessed with guys and m/m relationships and she's fethisizing them?. That's why she didn't want Towa to confess his love for Mitsuki and was relieved when she didn't.
Also I wasn't a really big fan of the guys talking about Mitsuki and saying she was average and not a goddess. Like they can do better but whatever.
I'm excited to read the next volume but i think Aya is going to ruin it, ughhhh.
PS: I felt really bad for Mitsuki. She is trying to make friend but people don't want to be friends with her or ignore her all the time. It's really heartbreaking to see and I related to it on a personal level.

I'm not going to lie to you guys, I love this series. It's my little dose of fluff and humour whenever a volume comes out and I genuinely look forward to each new volume. It's the only shojo manga I've ever read, so I'm not brilliantly versed in the ways of them so I could have missed/be missing something. That being said...on to the review and my feels about what happens in this volume....

So, we're a day or so on from the events of the last volume and we do get the rest of that scene in a little flashback and it played out kinda similar to how I assumed it would. Towa is giving Mitsuki the cold shoulder because he's mad, about what...well that's up to you. I figure he's jealous or upset about her friendship with Aya.

Now, I ship Mitsuki and Towa so hard, it's not even funny. Things where going so well last volume, way too well for a first volume now that I think about it. So of course, along comes Aya to screw it all up. Which was fine because Towa makes his little declaration...interpret it as you will. I think I know how we're all interpreting it. Mitsuki and Towa do get a little closer in this volume, she's more relaxed around him to an extent, although the author does keep faking us out. Like when I thought we where about to get a date but it's like nope...group basketball time!

But....I just can't figure Towa out. The guys do end up grilling Towa a little bit about Mitsuki and his feelings, and I can't decide if he realises his feelings or not. It becomes obvious in this volume that he's pretty dense. But it's also obvious he likes Mitsuki and they have mutual feelings for each other. I just cannot for the life of me work out if Towa realises how he feels or not. Because at one point it seemed like he was pushing her towards Aya at one point and I was like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! HOW DUMB ARE YOU!?". So I haven't decided if he's actually as dense as he seems, or if he hasn't realised his feelings or what. I guess we'll see.

Mitsuki does come out of her shell a bit more in this volume thanks to said group basketball time, and she's attempting to put herself out there and make more friends with the help of Reina. Aya provides an interesting change in Mitsuki, previously her BFF, upon finding out that Aya is in fact a boy, Mituki becomes quite uncomfortable around him and isn't really sure how to act. Which is going to prove interesting next volume. So we kinda get two Mitsuki's....more relaxed Mitsuki with Towa and co...and then old school Mitsuki with Aya.

Reina continues to crack me the hell up. I love her so much, she's such a shameless boy's love fangirl and I know full well she's shipping each of the boys with each other. It's becoming more and more glaringly obviously, except Mitsuki still hasn't figure it out. It genuinely cracks me up so much, like the whole "I hold in my rage" bit and when she's so happy but trying to cheer Mitsuki up and she's like "Shake it off" *Big smile*.

Anywaaaaayyy, Aya surprised me this volume a little bit, because I spent most of last volume looking at Aya and trying to decide if Aya was a tomboy or was actually a boy...I went with tomboy and then the reveal happened in this volume and I was like "Oh". So it was a nice little twist that some may or may not have seen coming. We get to see some more of what Mitsuki and Aya's friendship was like when they where younger, and how they met and so on, which was really adorable and totally hilarious because Mitsuki realises all the things they did and discussed only because she thought Aya was a girl. Mitsuki is so relatable, I love her! I can empathise with her as well, with the bullying situation and how she feels. We get an....interesting scene with Mitsuki and Aya towards the end and all I can say is...love rival much Towa?

But fear not, fellow Mitsuki/Towa shippers, we get plenty of cute scenes with her and Towa, that will provide the warm and fuzzies, and move their relationship/friendship along a little bit. However....that may be it for a little while as I have a feeling the next volume might be a little bit Aya centric. Just a hunch.

Rui, Kyosuke and Ryuji are such little shites. That's my take away from this volume. No I'm kidding! I mean it's true, but more than that we do get to know them a little bit better this volume and see how they interact with each other and what makes them tick, although I think we get to know Towa the most this volume, with Kyosuke a bit behind.

Speaking of Kyosuke, so Towa might not have realised his feelings for Mitsuki himself yet, but you know who has realised? Kyosuke. He's living for this entire situation, he looked way too happy at one point. He's going to meddle so much, I can tell. He's like a gossipy old biddy, sticking his oar in. I mean I'm sure he's Team Towa, but...I don't trust him not to relish his newfound role as Chief Meddler too much and screw it up. I'm not even surprised he's the one who's on to them.

Waiting For Spring Volume 2 is even funnier than the first, and I was outright cackling more than once. Reina is struggling to hide her little obsession, and Mitsuki is starting to come out of her shell. Not very successfully but she's trying. We get a lot more character development, delving deeper in to some of the characters and their backgrounds. The romance moves along too as it becomes obvious about Towa and Mitsuki's feelings, whether or not Towa realises his feelings is another matter entirely. He's either self sabotaging on purpose, subconsciously or he's just really dumb. Who knows. But either way the plots moving along, we get some cute scenes, we get some trouble in the form of Aya and it's shaping up to be a dramatic third volume in our future.

Buckle up kiddies, we're heading to love triangle territory and it's going to be a bumpy ride. Kyosuke said so and everything.

Mitsuki’s childhood friend Aya-chan has finally returned from America and Mitsuki is shocked to know that the little kid that she assumed was a girl (due to the long hair) is actually a boy. And quite a handsome and accomplished one at that. As Aya-chan makes no qualms about the fact that he is extremely fond of Mitsuki, tiny tendrils of jealousy start rising in the usually complacent and perpetually sleepy Towa’s heart.

As I mentioned in the first volume, this series is a fluffy feel-good manga. And honestly what can I review about a beloved trope that we are all familiar with?

*3.5/5 (before i talk about my rating, can i just say how lovable my man riu is on the cover???) this was the cutest and it’s really amazing! i’m still at that stage where i’m trying to figure out what makes it unique from the others since it follows the typical shojo trope, but we’re getting more substance! love it <3
