Coveney has been wrongly accused of a crime he’d never commit, and it’s changed him, turning him into a cold, indifferent version of his former self. He lives for his position in the Wyvern Pride: protecting their territory, and serving his Alpha as Head Enforcer. Nothing else matters.
Then, she appears out of nowhere.

Ava is tired of running, but what choice does she have? With her former flock high on her heels, stopping means dying. She has no place amongst her kind, and her best chance seems to be attempting to join the human world.
One drunken decision to apply to the Wyvern Pride later, she’s in Lakesides, in the faint hopes that the feline shifters might invite her for an interview.
But if they did, could they accept a member who might endanger their entire Pride?

My interest in this series decreases with each book read. My desire to read each sequel is less than the desire to read each previous book. My enjoyment, after completing each book, is also less than my enjoyment of reading the previous book.

I don't often get to read a werecat book, and this entire series involves werecats (at least up to now and the next book). That certainly helps keep my interest. And I have not read a were-eagle book before, so that made this book worthwhile. There were two leads, one a weretiger, the other a wereeagle.

The first book in this series has one or more reviews mention that the book promised more than delivered. Specifically referring to the level of danger, on page combat, etc. Most of the books, so far, have had a kind of 'we are all likely to die' vibe. Including this one. This is the first time, though, that keeping most of the combat/violence off page annoyed me. And, quite frankly, other than the part wherein the two leads were shifters, I didn't care about either. So the characters didn't entertain me, nor did the plot.

It is annoying to write a review in the review box, because I can't see what I've written.

While technically this is the third book in the Age of Night series, I think this one can sort of be read on its own. Sure the story picks up on the tail end of a battle that started in the last book, but the plot continues on a very different path from the remainder of the series. This one actually sets the stage for a potential war between the supernatural beings of all species and possibly humans. Looking forward to seeing where May Sage goes next with this series. Will it be an all out war or more battles over the fate of the children??? Either way at least in this instance, Ava and Coveney got their HEA, at least for now.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Audible version. I really enjoyed reading the couple’s romance unfold. The H & h seemed level headed & had clear personalities. As an added bonus the h was the dominant in the relationship that’s a fun change in the typical fated mates dynamic. It’s been my experience the male is usually an “alpha” & a bit of an overbearing bully at times.

On a side note these books can be read as stand alones but you may miss out on character backstories. Also important to note the series was abandoned. If you read books 1-3 It makes for a good trilogy with solid closure when it comes to Ace’s story.

Add’t books in series published at a later date focusing on different couples. Ace’s thread ends here.

Catnip is right... This is a delicious little read.

I had this effusive detailed review almost finished and ready to post when my stupid tablet ate it... So here's what could remember:

There are many things I enjoy about your books... The richness of your characterizations, the inventiveness of your storytelling, the humor and charm you bring to dialogue, but I have a special love for the uniquely wonderful pairings. You had the intense in Rye & Ace. And let me tell you they are INTENSE in bold and all caps, underlined several times with many exclamation points! Passionate, opinionated, sexy, fiery, aggressive... Whew I could go on!

But then you have Clari & Daunte. Talk about a cat and mouse game where no one knows who is the cat and who is the mouse! lol It was sensual yet fun, and I loved it!

And you managed to make Coveney & Ava even more different. Getting to know the man behind the mask was great! A certified genius as Head Enforcer is an unexpected but hot twist. And then there's Ava! The shy, sweet bad ass who didn't realize that she WAS a bad ass! lol It was so fun watching the nerd catching on first! Generally, in love & emotions, it's like Spike said in Lover's Walk: "It's not brains, children! It's blood coursing and rushing begging you to bend to its will." Or something like that. And yet Coveney proved to be the very antithesis of that! It's fascinating and I loved it!

My only issue... And unfortunately, it extends to many of your stories and not just this series... Transitions. The story doesn't always transition well. Its lie we're going somewhere and cruising right along and-- some how we're at an unmarked pit stop with no clue how. Only to get right back on track with the story. Sometimes it's crazy and only makes the story better, but in this book as in others, it can be jarring.

Ms. Sage tried too hard with this one to create a "shy and retiring" heroine, a submissive dominant or something like that. So many of the character decisions and actions go wrong in the second half of the book for the way the character had been defined in the first of the book that all the actions and tension deflates like a balloon leftover from a party - to the point the author calls out her own weakness in the book. "If you could do this, why didn't you do it at the beginning," asks the other characters. "Well, I didn't know I could." (After covering all the training she had undergone all her life. All the life travel. Her family history, etc.)

I liked reading the book - the relationship between the hero and heroine works, so the romance portion of the book is nice. But everything else tripped too far into a Monty Haul Campaign troupe (see TVtroupe for definition).

Purchased as part of the Age of Night book collection 1-3.

Wow May Sage continues to amaze and entertain use with great stories! I love that she does not stick to the stock four or five shifters but branches out! Even the standard feline shifters are not the norm! This time she has chosen the majestic Eagle as her focus to join the Wyvern clan! Just because Ava happens to help out the clan in their moment of need is not part of the plan! Coveney is attracted to her but is not sure what drives him until he saves her from a poisoned wound! Discovering you are someone's fated mate can be rather disconcerting to say the least! The pace of the story is fast the action intense! I love these characters! The scope of the series gets broader after each book and the reader can't help but want more!

During the battle to protect members of his feline pack, Enforcer Coveney, is saved by an eagle who catches a poisoned arrow mid-air. Coveney knows the arrow's poison will kill the eagle if he doesn't find her. Ava, the shifter eagle, had come to apply to join the feline pack having run from traitor's in her flock who destroyed her family. Tiger shifter Coveney brings her and all her problems back to the pack. Eagles and cats need to solve an old mystery in order to protect the eagle shifters from extinction and Coveney needs to convince Ava that she is his fated mate. This plot was more convoluted that earlier books in the series and really need more fleshing out. Things seemed rushed. But looking forward to more.

This Book is 4 the Birds!

This book was very good, fast-paced & family oriented.

Coveney is the Enforcer of the Wyvern Pride & during a fight an Eagle came out of nowhere & took an arrow for him & then flew away. After his wounds were healed from the poison that was on the arrows that hit him, he found the Eagle shifter & took her back to the Pride's home to take care of the Eagle shifter.

Ava is an Eagle shifter looking for the 1st Werewolf who currently goes by the name of Knox & she knows that the Pride can help. Not only does she find him but also her mate; but they're not 1 & the same as her mate is Coveney. Coveney is also the 1 to figure it out 1st.

But, you'll need to read the book to find out why Ava needs to find Knox & how her mating goes with Coveney.

21/5/18 - book 4 has just been released so a quick re-read of this one and then a catch up with the other three books in the series. all four are very short, fast reads and there is an ongoing storyline which takes place over a period of approx one year but plenty of history is covered to tie everything together. each book is about a separate couple but the general stories are about the pride as a whole. i love the writing style, the stories and the characters. there is danger, death and treason but there is also love, loyalty and honour and overall .. fun. super quick reads that i really enjoyed

Awesome story about Wyvern Pride

The characters are intriguing, relatable, and boldly sexy. The plot is the aftermath from book two and fast pace drama with a twist.

Coveney is a tiger shifter what was accused of raping a woman. He met Ava when she rescued him from an poison arrow.

Since she had helped protect the alpha son from their enemies, they listen to her story. Will she and her mate revenge herself on her enemies that almost been killed her entire family.

I like this book because it's a continuation from the previous book and goes more in depth with Ava and a mysterious wolf shifter named Knox.

I highly recommend this story.

I’m not sure why I’m rushing through these even though they continue to have the same fatal flaw. Basically the old “and a miracle occurs here” comic panel. Every battle is magically won with little effort or loss.

Book 1: all the shielded allies were revealed included both their fathers.
Book 2: demi-gods kicked ass.
Book 3: the eagle siblings went ninja assassin on the rebel enforcers.

Forgive the sexually explicit metaphor, but ...

I do like the characters, though. After balanced alpha and beta couples it was cute seeing how chill Coveney was playing second fiddle to his mate.

I was all psyched up for the inevitable book hangover when I finished this third book in the series, so imagine my delight when I discovered Books 4 and 5! Catnip was another addictive read in this set. The false accusations against Coveney that nearly ruined his life are extremely relevant and timely in today's world. I enjoyed the creative addition of an eagle shifter into the mix. Coveney and Ava's chemistry was smokin' hot.

This series just gets more & more interesting

I love how the author just keeps adding more and more interesting characters while keeping the heart of the Wyvern Pride intact and as a central feature of the series and each book. There were some crazy powerful supes in the last book, but this one was full of some of the oldest and most powerful shifters ever. Love these books! They’re just so fun to read.

I love May Sage, I one click all of her PNR books. She has a way with words that by the 3rd chapter (Usually before that) you are so sucked into the world and out of your own, that nothing can break your focus.

You need to read all of this series, it's quickly become, and stayed one of my top 5 favorite PNR shifter series!

A wild, fun ride

Another corker, I enjoyed every moment. The myriad of characters are well defined, unique and interesting. There's plenty of violence, romance, great sex and laughter. The plot is intriguing, you never know what to expect next which is such fun. And yes I can't wait for book 4.

Action! Adventure and Sexiness

I love this entire series. It's so sexy. Coveny and Ava are adorable. She's so shy and timid...But Coveny give her everything she needs to let her true self shine. She's royalty he's a genius they bring the best out of each other. There are some cool fight scenes, and a lot more history in this book. Can't wait to see what comes next

Not as expected

I found "Catnip" sorely lacking compared to the previous books. There's none of the magical feel and the "fated mates" finding each other fell flat as well! It was sort of "Hey, she's mine. You're mine. Okay. Let's go have sex.". As you may be able to tell, I found this book to be unimpressive. It's upsetting!

Catnip (Age of Night 3) by May Sage – Coveney know the arrows being fired in his direction are poisonous, so when the eagle that warned them of the coming danger gets hit protecting him he goes after her. Ava may be on the run, but she can’t seem to stop herself from saving the tiger. The pack is going to get dragged into yet another mess with fated mates! Happy Reading!

Oh, Ava is so awesome. It was such fun geting to learn more about how the shifter world works. Coveny is such a quiet character, it was really cool to see him out of his shell. All in all, an amusing read.

This time it is an eagle shifter meeting to tiger shifter. The characters are great, and I really enjoyed the plot. There is romance, action and steamy scenes.

Catnip was a great read by May Sage. This is book three in the Age of Night series. Coveney was accused of a crime he didn’t commit. He is the Head Enforcer of his Pride. That’s what he lives for until he meets Ava. I absolutely loved reading Ava and Coveney’s story.

This series just keeps getting better and better! Though I'll be in the poor house after buying everything Sage pens, I'll be happy. And talk about blowing the mythology wide open - I'm betting there'll be spin-off stories galore. Huzzah!

Good paranormal

Not as good as the first book in the series, but still a very enjoyable read. We learned a bit more about shifter origins in this story and about Knox who was introduced in earlier books.
