The Guardians is questing for them Infinity Stones but oh durn here come the new Nova Corps to pick ‘em up! And the new Corps has problems - not only are they seen as a joke after losing Thanos in transit, they’re also riddled with Shi’Ar spies! Former 30 Rock actor turned Nova Corps bossman, Scott Adsit, press gangs our heroes (and Ant-Man for some reason) into the Corps to root out the traitors. Also, some weirdo called Adam has just woken up from his golden cocoon…

Goddamn, Gerry Duggan is doing Marvel Cosmic right with All-New Guardians of the Galaxy! Turns out this dude’s amazing at that rarest of abilities - writing team books - masterfully juggling one great storyline after another. There’s never a dull moment in Volume 3: Infinity Quest.

The team splits up with everyone getting something cool to do: Gamora and Ant-Man investigate an Ultron-infested space hulk, Star-Lord discovers Rich Rider’s back from the Cancerverse and the two hunt down an Infinity Stone (which looks VERY different from how they usually do!), Rocket, Groot and Scott Adsit get into some amusing office shenanigans, and Drax deals with the traitors.

Not only that but the team take on the Shi’Ar Raptors AND The Gardener’s evil Groot army and the team’s line-up changes further still as old allies return and mainstays unexpectedly walk away. AND Adam Warlock is introduced AND another classic villain that I won’t reveal here. It’s all happening in this series!

If you’re wondering why the issue numbering suddenly went shooting up into the triple digits, it’s because, like every title, it’s gone back to its original numbering as part of Marvel’s Legacy drive. We’ll see how long that lasts before a new #1 appears (“New All-New”?).

I prefer Aaron Kuder’s art, and Kuder does at least draw the Adam Warlock sequence, but Marcus To’s art is more than good enough. The world-building is solid – I love that the new Nova Corps base is named after one of Michael Bay’s few decent movies, The Rock, and that the Novas are being written as underdogs, kinda like how Terry Pratchett’s City Watch originally were (shoutout to any Discworld fans out there!).

Great art, even better writing, awesome story – three volumes in and All-New Guardians of the Galaxy is only getting better! As far as I’m concerned this is Marvel’s best current title – fans of superhero comics and/or the Guardians movies will love it.

I gotta say this works a lot better when they print the issues in order, unlike the first 2 trades. Scott Adsit of 30 Rock fame has joined the Nova Corps now that SHIELD went belly up and Deadpool broke bad again. The problem is, the Nova Corps has been infiltrated by Darkhawks. So what's an ex-SHIELD agent to do? Hire the Guardians to go undercover and root out the bad apples. There's a lot of fun here, especially Rocket. Marcus To does space adventure very well. (Just check out his work in Joyride to see what I mean.) I do think Ian Herring's color palette was too drab for a fun, space adventure book.

Gerry Duggan is really killing it over at Marvel these days. His work on Deadpool has made me dig a character I've always found one note. Now he's made Guardians fun as well. He's absolutely fantastic at cracking jokes while still bringing in enough story and adventure to keep things moving. The good thing is even though this title has ended, the story continues in Infinity Countdown.

This was so good omg I loved it!

So it starts with Ant-man and Guardians being recruited in the Nova corps and its their mission to find out who the traitors in the corps are who are selling info and leaking stuff and we follow that narrative and ultimately personal stories here and there like Richard and Peter reuniting and that was like one of my favorite moments in the book and its so worth the wait and then finally Drax helping people and then getting a relization, guardians confronting a giant tree and we get some clues as to whats happening with Groot and finally its Nova corps vs Talons and the return of someone big and the setting up of the war of stones!

Its an amazing volume and does well to inject humor in the midst of this galactic battle to take place and Duggan does well to highlight the guardians new status quo and I love the way he writes these character in particular Peter and Richard and sets some interesting confrontation down the line and the new status quo for Drax and I love the crazy actions and fights, its brutal and funny at the same time so yeah I loved it and I'd definitely recommend it!

The end of another great series and the start of another massive crossover event, Infinity Countdown comes next and I feel like this series could be running for a couple more volumes, it was too good to end up so shortly.

Such a cool story. We get more of the Novas and thr Guardians. We get just enough of everyone so theres really no main character. That element is pulled off really well. The art is great. Highly recommend this series. Vol 2 wasnt as good but this takes the cake.

The end to the main run of Gerry Duggan's Guardians is like the rest of the series, over the top and fun as hell.

This has each member of the guardians on their own mission. Actually, it has most of them going in groups of twos trying to all come to the same conclusion. With Ant Man and Gamore teaming up to Quill and Rich becoming best bros once more, and Rocket just being a little Snarky badass, we all come to a big build up for the Infinity Wars event. With everything set in place, new faces, old faces returning, and Drax's new mission, it feels like one big set up but with a lot of heart in it.

Good: Loved the hell out of Ant Man in here. Who knew he'd be one of the best characters in GotG? I also thought the art was solid, some great fight scenes, and funny moments to be had. Groot is f'ing adorable here and a badass, and we start solving the evil groot problems too. Quill and Rider back together is perfect.

Bad: Drax storyline seems a odd place to end up tbh. I also realize it's BIG on set up so it feels like moving pieces instead of always naturally happening.

Overall, fun as heck. While not as strong as say volume 1 in storytelling, the dialogue and art are always up there. A 3.5 out of 5.

Infinity Quest (146-150). How do you get a #146 for Guardians of the Galaxy? You ridiculously mix in the 62 issues of the '90s series set in the far future with the modern-day team created by DNA a few decades later.

Anywho, this volume is the story of the Guardians in the Nova Corps, which sounds really charming because it blends together two of Marvel's biggest SF/space franchises, but which turns out to be a bit less exciting because those stupid helmets cover everyone's faces and because this just feels like an off-brand Green Lantern Corps.

Oh, there's some good stuff such as Rocket's quest for traitors in the Corps and the mysterious appearance of an Infinity Rock and the return of classic characters like Cosmo and Warlock. But the Nova parts are a bit on the dull side [3+/5].

More of the same aight.

World: The art is okay, doesn't really stand out and honestly for this book to succeed it needs something stylish and flashy and so far this series isn't getting it. The world building is in fits and starts. Since the start of the series with the idea of finding the stones there has been little else world building of note. There is the building towards the Gardener and also building of the new status quo of the Nova Corps (but spending so much time on it in a non Nova book is a waste of time). The world is patchy and with a lot of issues hinting at stuff past and future with little context new readers are lost in this world. Who is Ad Warlock, why is Talonar important, what makes Rider important...all these are question marks for new readers and them being moments and big things don't land cause we have no context.

Story: The story suddenly becomes a Nova story and I don't know the point of it, this is a Guardians story and it gets shifted to this and honestly as a new reader I feel a bit cheated, I wanted capers and space exploration and we get a rip off Green Lantern book. The story is choppy the important characters don't really have personalities and the "huge" reveals don't land cause for most readers that are not die hard cosmic Marvel it means nothing. I see why this title was cancelled and changed to Infinity Countdown, it's directionless and just not fun.

Characters: Not a lot of development here, basic and relying a lot of existing knowledge from the MCU. Characters should influence the films not the other way around (a discussion for another day). I said it above already new readers don't know Adam Warlock and the magic stuff inside the stone, we need character background and context to allow for readers to care.

It was aight.

Onward to the next book!

[Read as single issues]
Gerry Duggan, man. This guy knows how to write comics. He's one of a few writers at Marvel that really knows how to make continuity work for him without making books inaccessible to new readers. It's no wonder that he's being entrusted the current Infinity Countdown event; his Guardians run has proven that he can handle the cosmic stage that very few writers have managed to prove themselves on.

Marvel's Legacy blanket inspires different stories in their creative teams; here, Duggan revisits the collection of the Infinity Stones, items that have been scattered and regathered more often than the freakin' Dragon Balls, but puts a new twist on them all as the Guardians attempt to track them down while rooting out corruption in the newly-reformed Nova Corps along the way.

The ending of this storyline springboards right into Infinity Countdown, and the momentum builds and builds as we go along. Some stories reach their breaking point, like the long-standing Gardener/Groot plotline, while we get new ones like a giant Infinity Stone and Rocket's newfound love for working as a Nova Corpsman. Plus Scott Adsit joins the cast after finally leaving Earth to get away from Deadpool, which is a nice bit of continuity too.

Marcus To takes the reins for this storyline; his art remains as consistent as ever, although I do feel like his inker/colourist teams aren't as strong as they used to be during his DC days.

A worthy successor to the Infinity title. Onwards to the Countdown, and whatever comes after that.

Reprints Guardians of the Galaxy (5) #146-150 (January 2018-March 2018). The Guardians are members of the Nova Corps and trying to help the formation of a whole new team of galaxy peacekeepers. Unfortunately, the Nova Corps has been infiltrated by spies of the Fraternity of Raptors and the Guardians must discover who they are before it is too late. Meanwhile, Thanos has escaped and a quest for the Infinity Stones has begun!

Written by Gerry Duggan, All-New Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3: Infinity Quest is a follow-up to All-New Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2: Riders in the Sky. The collection commenced with the start of the Legacy event which reverted to the original Guardians of the Galaxy numbering beginning with Guardians of the Galaxy (1) #1 (June 1990). The issues feature art by Marcus To and Aaron Kudar and were also collected as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy by Gerry Duggan Omnibus.

The idea of “returning” to the original numbering was appealing to me. I was a big collector of the original Guardians and though I knew that the original Guardians weren’t coming back in this collection, it was nice to think of a longer run of the original series…but the whole Legacy thing was handled very strange since it didn’t really seem like an event. This collection pretty much just continues the storyline of All-New Guardians of the Galaxy for five more issues.

The comic has been trying to get closer to the films with characters personas etc, but it still doesn’t feel like the movies, nor does it feel like the characters of the comics. In this volume both Richard Rider and Ant-Man take big roles in the storyline, and I don’t really associate either character to the team (though Nova did have a bigger part in the Guardians initial relaunch when Abbett and Lanning were writing).

The story also feels like a no-direction story. Throughout the issues the characters go on side missions that feel really tangential to the plot, but also don’t feel fleshed out enough itself. The attacks by Groot’s people and the Ultrons feel tacked on. It feels like too much ground was being covered. With the series ending at Guardians of the Galaxy #150, the story feels oddly open and unresolved. That isn’t uncommon, but it feels like a little more resolution is needed to call this a complete story.

Guardians of the Galaxy always holds a soft spot for me no matter what iteration they are in. It was a comic I loved growing up and even when they replaced all my favorite characters with a new team, it was still a team I was interested in. With the popularity of the Guardians of the Galaxy films remaining strong, the Guardians will carry on…someway. The Guardians of the Galaxy comic returned in 2019 with a new title and team line-up.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are back (which shouldn’t be a surprise) and they’re working together with other parts of the Marvel universe in ways I haven’t seen yet. This was a fun volume, with lots being set up for later plots (or series). Do yourself a favor though, read this before you start reading the Infinity Countdown issues that are out there. I made that mistake and ended up reading a couple of things out of order. Nothing major, but I would have preferred to have the additional context given a choice.

I'm really enjoying this series, and the way that the Infinity Gems (now Infinity Stones) are playing a big part. I also love Adam Warlock, so it is great to see him as a part of a major Marvel story again.

For me this was the best volume of Guardians of the Galaxy for a long, long time. Gerry Duggan is so suited to this series.

The Guardians have joined the newly reformed Nova Corps. Gamora and Ant-Man face a load of Ultrons, Starlord reunited with Richard Rider and together they inadvertently discover an Infinity Stone, Drax helps a vulnerable woman, Adam Warlock turns up and the Guardians fight the Flora Colossus Groot clones. Plus Rocket does a fine job at turning the Nova Corps around.

There are many reasons this works well. One is the way that Duggan manages to balance the characters and give most of them a good story. Rocket is a revelation as a member of the Nova Corps and it's like he's finally found his true calling- it's nice to see him given a storyline beyond comedy. Drax's recent storyline comes to a head here and I couldn't help but feel a real sympathy for the character. We also see Starlord's conflicting emotions at seeing Richard Rider again and Ant-Man finding a path to redemption (and doing some really cool stuff too).

Then there's the plotlines. Duggan doesn't settle with one but throws all sorts of storylines together. The quest for the Infinity Stones isn't actually the major plot here but the discovery of one is certainly a terrific moment. The Flora Colossus storyline is pretty good as is the Talons infiltrating the Nova Corps. The highlight for me though was the Ultron storyline. Ultron becomes a whole lot more interesting when you give him a kingdom in space and countless alien people to subjugate and experiment on but there's still the link back to Earth thanks to Scott Lang now being on the team.

I thought the art here was really great too; Marcus To's style is perfectly suited to the series. It's a difficult series to draw for with a range of characters, lots of action and some large landscape panels needed but To does them equally well.

My one complaint- this is the last volume of Guardians for a while with the seeds planted here growing into Infinity Countdown and then Infinity Wars which will both be helmed by Duggan. I'd love to see the series continue with some of the other storylines but at least Duggan can really up the ante from this point.

The Guardians have joined into the next huge Marvel Event, all about the Infinity Stones (due to the popularity of the awesome Infinity War movie). Lots contained here in this graphic novel. Here's the breakdown:
- Ant-Man has officially joined the Guardians, at least for now.
- At the end of the last Volume, the Nova Corps arrested the Guardians. Why? So they could join the Nova Corps! They look awesome in uniform, but only Rocket seems keen on using this to his advantage.
- The Guardians are given missions:
1) Ant-Man and Gamora are sent to answer a distress signal. They end up fighting against an invasion of Ultron-bots.
2) Star-Lord, while given the additional task of finding Infinity Stones, is dispatched with Richard Ryder to find an outpost where there are rogue Novas starting trouble. Inside the base, they come across a group of Novas being led by Eve Bakian, who happens to be pregnant. She explains that they are not the rogue Novas in question because they have a secret that they have been defending against the real rogue Novas finding out. Their base contains a HUGE version of the Power Stone (now purple).
3) Drax and Groot go off to deal with a group of Novas who allowed Thanos to escape. They too end up fighting off Ultron-bots, but also some of the Gardener's "evil Groots'".
4) Rocket is charged with finding the traitor in the Nova organization, but is hilariously using it to gain intel on where something he can steal is. His methods of questioning are unorthodox, and one of the Nova Commanders finds him so hilarious, he rises Rocket up to the rank of Denarian.
All stories reconverge as the Guardians and the Novas take on Talanar and his rogue Shi'Ar agents, the Raptors. Once the Raptors are taken down and re-arrested, Drax continues his pacifist route and quits the Guardians. In effort for his service, and because of his previous affinity with it, he (and Eve) now guard the Power Stone.
But elsewhere in the galaxy, Adam Warlock is being reborn, and is trapped in Soul World. He knows something is stirring... but why is Kang waiting for him outside his cocoon?

Guardians is an amazing book right now, and I always love anything to do with Infinity Stones.
High recommend.

W jednym momencie obserwujemy Gamore i Ant-Mana badającego pewien „opuszczony” statek, chwilę później śledzimy losy Star-Lorda i Adama Warlock’a, aby kilka kadrów dalej móc obserwować Draxa niosącego pomoc pewnej „niewieście”. To i tak tylko część „akcji”, jaką można znaleźć na stronach komisu, dodatkowo całość soczyście doprawiona została sporą dawką świetnego humoru (często absurdalnego).

This is fun, but nothing particularly special. So last issue of last volume the Guardians decided they needed to hunt down the infinity stones. So in this issue--they join the Nova Corps! Great strategy huh?

This bizarre, out of nowhere occurrence opens the book, as the Guardians join the reconstituted Nova Corps to aid them in finding spies and saboteurs who're hiding in the rank and file. Two different plots run here: Rocket tries to root out corruption in the core/find the spies and saboteurs, and Quill and Rich Rider go off to investigate a group of corps members who have gone all radio silent somewhere out in space and are presumed either rogue or dead.

Theses plot lines re-converge as the good elements of Nova Corps and the Guardians battle the rest, along with the people who sent them in as spies and saboteurs in the first place.

There are some fun moments with Rocket playing cop, and Quill and Rider make a good team, but Groot mostly disappears, and Gamorra and Drax don't have much to do other than stand around looking threatening and grumpy. And occasionally killing people.

I'm hoping that the book finds some kind of throughline narrative, some reason d'etre for this team soon, as it feels like they are simply entertainingly spinning their wheels.

After two great Guardians of the Galaxy volumes, Infinity Quest sees our heroes bogged down with a largely meaningless quest to root out corruption in the Nova Corps. Sure, there's an Infinity Stone involved, but the vast majority of this volume ignores its title. And that's kind of a bummer! After Vol. 1: Communication Breakdown especially, I was excited for this series to get into some great cosmic weirdness. Instead, everyone's in a stodgy Nova uniform, even Rocket. And the number of tertiary issues the Guardians are dealing with keeps growing with the re-introduction of Ultron's menace. I feel like I need a spreadsheet to keep track of the plot threads.

Of course, Infinity Quest is still pretty fun, even when it's following an unnecessary tangent. Gerry Duggan is a skilled action-comedy writer, especially with Ant-Man joining the team. The art is very above average as well. I'll gladly follow these Guardians into another volume, although the Adam Warlock stuff at the end of this one doesn't seem promising for future heist-style adventures.

The Nova Corps is rebuilding and have hired the Guardians of the Galaxy to keep their new recruits in line! Star-Lord and Richard Rider reunite to check out a lost group, Drax is weeding out some traitors, Rocket is cleaning up the riff-raff and misconduct, and Gamora and Ant-Man are on a rescue mission. Yeah, Ant-Man is here. And he's actually my favourite part? Unlike Brian Michael Bendis adding a bunch of Earth superheroes (like Iron Man and Venom), Ant-Man is adapting well. I mean, not WELL well, but he takes lead on action plots for this arc and isn't any more the butt of jokes than he usually is in his solo comics. He also uses his Pym particles in some neat ways that work well in the sci-fi adventure setting of the Marvel cosmic universe.

This is called "Infinity Quest" but it doesn't really feel like a quest. It sort of addresses the raptors plot, but doesn't resolve all of it. It sort of addresses the infinity stone plot, but is more of a cliffhanger than a main focus. Duggan has an event or two lined up to address it all so this is a set-up volume.

The Guardians of the Galaxy have been hired to go under cover with Nova Corps at one of their new stations after their planet was destroyed. Nova knows there are spies in their midst, and they need to find out who they are. Rocket is put in charge of flushing out the spies. While hunting for spies, they also uncover a HUGE secret that must be kept out of the hands of well...just about everyone.

This was a very fun mystery/adventure for the Guardians. I questioned their sanity putting Rocket in charge, but the result is very entertaining. Ant-Man is a good addition to the Guardians, and works well as part of the traditional team. I could see this kind of plot line being used for their next movie. Recommended for those who like the Guardians movies.

Notes on content: Occasional minor swears scattered throughout with stronger swears being replaced by grawlixes. No sexual content. There are some violent clashes, cartoonish style with minimal blood and gore.

Trochę to powtarzalne. Niemniej "za miedzą" już kolejny event. Ciekaw jestem co się tam na wyczynia.

So, there's this giant (spoiler-free) object sitting on the floor, and they're standing there looking at it and one person says "It's so large and powerful, it's generating its own gravity field. The nearby star is actually orbiting this planetoid." THEN HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU JUST STANDING THERE LOOKING AT IT? The nearby star is caught in its gravity, but you're not? Holy shit! I'm all for suspending my disbelief, but this hurt my brain.

Anyway . . .

The Same Ol' Guardians and Ant-Man join the Nova Corps, which has recently been revitalized and still has room for improvement. It's always difficult to follow a bunch of mostly new characters who are all wearing the same outfit. The Guardians are looking for the Infinity stones, rooting out Raptor spies in the Nova Corps, and Rocket may be planning to steal everything.

The art is tolerable.

I liked this. I really did. I genuinely feel Gerry Duggan's short lived run on Guardians was such a delight with constant moments I found myself laughing out loud at.

Rocket and Peter Quill are written so comical. Ant-Man was an added bonus for an already well equipped team. I need to give credit to To for his artwork too. He draws a perfect Rocket. Couple that with forcing all Guardians to wear the standard uniform of the Nova Corp... so friggin hysterical.

I needed to google one thing once I realized Scott Adsit lives in the Marvel universe. Even better is the fact by issue 2 Rocket is already twice promoted above Adsit's rank.

I wish Duggan's run would have continued but I know there seems to be an internal crunch to get into the Infinity Countdown story arc.
