Would’ve been a five star but when he referenced the past family he messed up the names. He said Lola was the confederate spy but it wasn’t, it was Belle, which would’ve been her grandma. Such a mistake seems ridiculous when there is a family tree at the beginning of each story.

In this latest installment of the House of Winslow series, Jennifer Winslow discovers the corruption of local politics and the prejudices of the local sheriff when she decides to run for sheriff. The bootleggers and the townspeople do not approve of her being a sheriff for different reasons. Other than two men one an idealistic lawyer and the other one is a reluctant deputy. Of course this is in the Deep South during the Depression era where women were expected to get married and have children not work outside the home especially in law enforcement.

10 - I enjoyed this book. Being a woman sheriff in the South (Georgia) during the depression would have been interesting. The author kept it interesting with Jennifer learning all about her duties and the struggles she had with corruption in the government. It was sad when Kermit was shot. I had a feeling she was not going to marry Luke but fall in love with Clay instead. This was a book I didn't want to put down :)

This series by Gilbert Morris is one of my absolute favorites. Each book follows at least one member of a generation in the Winslow family tree and the member(s) gets saved and finds true love. There's also some commentary on the social conditions of the time frame. Truly interesting.
