The Slime Book: All You Need to Know to Make the Perfect Slime by DK is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. This is a book I am getting my grand kids! It opens up with showing all the different slime recipes and the tools you will need. Wow, are there a lot of recipes! The tools are simple and most of them you probably have. The slime come in two categories, non-edible and edible! That's right, some you can eat! Some non- edible include: basic, stretchy, fluffy (looks like shaving cream...wanting to put my hands in that myself!), see through (gross, looked like...), putty, starry, crunching, smelly, glitter, popping, shades, gold, unicorn, sand, metallic, monster, snow, fake snot (gross), and more. It looks like kids (and adults) would have lots of fun playing with this. The edible ones include: chocolate goo, sticky icky tasty slime, the bear necessities, and striped slime. At the end it tells you how to store your slime and easy clean up. It also gives you tips if your slime didn't work the way you wanted it to. Awesome close up pictures and step by step instructions. I know my grand kids will love this!
I have been waiting to create the slime recipes until my grandson was over and it was well worth the wait. We have had so much fun using The Slime Book by DK Publishing to mix up crazy creations. Let me recommend the activities be supervised because you sure don't want this stuff dangling from your kitchen lights or smeared on cupboard handles. Our all time favorite is Popping Slime but we didn't have nearly enough Pop Rocks for us and the mixing bowl! Full Disclosure: I was allowed to read a copy of this book for free as a member of NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review. The opinions I have expressed are my own and I was not influenced to give a positive review.
If you’re looking for something fun to make in the kitchen, that’s just a little bit different, slime might be for you. When you want to make the perfect slime, The Slime Book has more than 30 recipes that can help you do just that.
There are two types of slime, Non-Edible Slime, and Edible Slime. You really won’t want to mix these up.
Before everything begins in the book, the Welcome page gives you a strict list of instructions regarding how to use the book. Encouraging users to read all the instructions carefully before starting anything, all the way down to how to handle various ingredients, I believe these warnings cover everything.
Before any of the recipes begin, the Index page includes a list of your Basic Slime Kit. These are all of the essential tools and ingredients you will need for most of the recipes. I found that the ingredients are extremely easy to source and should be found at any local grocery or dollar store.
The fascinating thing about the book is how many different kinds of slime there really are. I had no idea that so many different kinds existed.
Basic Slime, of course, is the first recipe but the recipes go on to include Stretchy Slime, Glitter Slime, Monster Slime, even Unicorn Slime and many more. There are even four different kinds of Edible Slime, and although Edible Slime might not exactly sound appetizing, they actually look kind of cool.
Throughout the book, there are excellent photos of each of the different kinds of slime, and each of the recipes has step-by-step instructions with step-by-step photos to assist along the way.
Each of the recipes includes the time it takes to make them, the difficulty level, and a non-edible warning where applicable. Some also include little tips about different ways of making the slime or the reason why it works the way it does, giving you a little bit of a science lesson.
While only 64 pages long, the book is full of information about slime and cool recipes for slime. It even goes so far as to explain Slime Storage and Clean Up Tips.
This book would be an excellent suggestion for anyone who wants their children to learn about measuring and creating. It’s also great if you’re having any kind of party because the kids would have a ball creating their own kinds of slime.

This book is a great craft source that is not only fun but a learning experience. I gave this book 5 stars because it manages to provide basic recipes that kids can do based on the directions. It also encourages them to experiment to perfect their recipes. I found the chapter on edible slime interesting. The format makes these recipes easy for younger kids yet adds a level to challenge more experienced kids. The addition of difficulty level and time required helps with choosing what slime to make. I didn’t find anything I would consider a problem. It is appropriate for all ages with those recipes needing adult supervision. I chose to review this after receiving a free copy from Netgalley. I plan to buy this book for my nephews.
I have a few slime books now in my collection, and while they almost all have similar recipes, I found that this one was well done in terms of how the recipes are presented and the number of recipes. Not too many for it to become overwhelming, but not too few so that you run out of fun before you're ready to call it a day. The little bits of scinece, the photos, and the really easy instructions made it easy for my kids to follow and to also flip through when we weren't actively making slime. So far, the recipes we have tried worked and made just enough slime. As a parent, I also really liked the quick chart of how long it would take, etc. and the warnings like "may stain." If someone is looking for a good beginner slime making book, I'd go this route.
This book is a great way to introduce slime making to school age children. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The illustrations support the content well. Different slimes may entice children to make them first based on glow in the dark, sound effect, edible, or other qualities. Warnings are present when necessary. There are plenty of options and "fixes" if your slime is not behaving as expected. This is sure to appeal to young scientists, and parents will appreciate the reminders to keep things clean (including your hands) and dispose of any mess.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Make no mistake, The Slime Book: All You Need to Know to Make the Perfect Slime is written for kids. This is not high art, but the kind of books kids will find great. Part science, part art, and mostly a book to occupy a pre-teens time, this is a practical how-to on making slime. What I loved about this book was it showed both edible and non-edible slime. Who would have figured edible slime? Lots of pictures with lots of ideas on different kinds of slime. Good stuff!
This book is so much more than a list of slime recipes. For each type of slime, there is a nice science bit. This makes each activity fun and educational. As a mom, I love opportunities to teach my kids. The book is colorful, keeping a kids attention. I am also a fan of the warnings that some of these may stain clothing. This allows me to properly prepare prior to making this fun slime. There is also a box stating how long each takes to make, the level of difficulty, and that it is not edible. My six year old wants to try almost every single one of these! Looks like we will have tons of fun! There is a slime for everyone in this book.
A very easy and nice book with done 30 recipes to make different themed slimes. There is snow , monster, strechy, puffy, unicorn, clear ,glow in the dark slimes for non edible and chocolate goo, sticky icky tasty, gummy bear as edible slimes . It will keep your slime crazy kid busy if your kid is able to prepare these slimes by himself/ herself ( probably 8 and older ) . My kid is only 4 so I just tried basic slime and goop to begin with. I will be sure to use these recipes for next few years slowly and steadily . As always DK never disappoints
Can't wait to try this recipes with our kids at the library. The recipes are easy - perfect in words and pictures. And I love all the little science bits to share with the kids too. The recipes are simple and easy to follow. And most of the supplies are easy to find it you don't already have them.
requested from Netgalley and will be recommending this to as a book to buy for our library.
Awesome book! Just in time for summer, too! The kids are gonna love this stuff! Lots of recipes for various types of slime- even edible! if it's kept outside, there should be no issue with the stuff getting onto furniture, carpeting, etc... I can't wait to make it with my kids!
I received a Kindle ARC in exchange for a fair review from Netgalley.
This just might be the definitive book of slime.. Many recipes including instructions for making glitter, glow in the dark, edible and even bubbling swamp slime!. Wonderful detail illustrations accompany each recipe as well as scientific information and facts.
My 12-year-old daughter has been making slime for a while now, so I thought she'd enjoy this book. She did find some inspiration and ideas to add to the recipes she was already using, but nothing really brand new. If you haven't tried making slime yet, this would be a perfect place to start.
I really think kids and parents will enjoy making the slime in this book. It includes many different recipes including glow in the dark ones and edibles ones. The book is bright and colorful. Easy to follow and the steps are clearly labeled. I haven't read any other books on slime but so far this one seems really easy for kids to follow even without parental help. Good book for families to use together. Just wish it had more recipes.
This seems like a good choice as a gift for a preteen who is fascinated by slime. While your preteen/teen has probably been swapping recipes with friends, this book has a few more kinds of slime and some more ideas for making slime even fancier. Well, if slime can be fancy. Most of the stuff looks like it's fairly obtainable. Expect your kid to need a bunch of clear craft glue and saline along with the fun stuff like glitter and food coloring. I only tried one of the recipes in this book, but, the others looked similar to ones we've used in craft programs. There are also tips at the end of the book for troubleshooting your slime if it doesn't turn out as expected.
Our thoughts: This book is a collection of slime recipes, both edible (about 4 of the 30 featured) and non-edible. The recipes are not that different from each other, just a variation of the couple of basic slime recipes featured in the book. It does contain tips, interesting science facts, and the variations mentioned are fun.
While this book failed to meets its mark at our home, with me and my daughter, who is the acknowledged slime-expert, in our house, I think it will help those who are new to the making of slime, especially younger ones.
