Noddy has to be very brave in this lovely new Enid Blyton story. His little car gets hurt in an accident and horrid Mr Honk, with his big shiny clockwork car, tries to take Noddy's job as taximan in Toy Village. But dear old Big-Ears helps Noddy to be brave and manages to put everything right again.
Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.
So Noddy's car left Golly's Garage by itself and nobody paid Mr Golly for the repairs. And Big Ears stole the clockwork key from Mr Honk's car so he wouldn't be able to use it as a taxi (or at all presumably). This book should've been called "Be Sneaky" not Be Brave.
In the new editions for sensitive readers Sid Golly the fruitseller became "Gilbert Goblin" and Mr Golly became "Bobby Bear". Also Big Ears didn't steal the clockwork key from Mr Honk's car. Mr Honk supposedly lost it himself and the car suddenly became rusty so it stopped working anyway. There was no mention of his gay yellow coat either.
Not the worst Noddy book although Noddy's Brave Song was getting a bit tedious.

A great story about facing challenges with a good mindset and dealing with the nastiness of others when they do their best to undermine you. I do think there may have been better and more appropriate ways for Noddy and Big-Ears to deal with Mr. Honk though.
Enid Blyton is my favourite childhood author. It’s such a beautiful nostalgic moment reading her books. It’s funny reading some of the language that you wouldn’t see now says but I still love how happy and uplifting they are for kids to read.
