*****This is a must read for fans of A Shade of Vampire, Twilight and The Mortal Instruments.******
Meet Atlas Morgan; the hero who just found the villain of her dreams… A ruthless, demonic army stands ready to attack; to bathe in the blood of all mankind. The only thing that has protected us from them is a mystical river which will run dry by midnight of the winter solace.
The paranormal community— referred to as Shadows—has been given seven chances to complete a quest that will replenish the river. They have failed six times. So, for the seventh and final time, the Shadows look to an unlikely source--seventeen-year-old human girl--Atlas Morgan.
Atlas has just lost the only person in the world that ever truly loved her—her mother. Though she is drowning in grief and sorrow, when she learns she is the chosen one, she gathers up the courage to agree to the quest. However, Atlas encounters something far more frightening than Werewolves, Vampires and Witches—love. His name is Kane and she’s shocked to learn that, like her, Kane has been chosen too--not to save the world but to end it…
I had such hope when I picked up Kissed by Shadows by Lola St. Vil. The title was interesting, the cover was gorgeous, and to be honest, the plot was interesting, what little I read of it.
But here's the issue: The writing itself made me put the book down. The author had a penchant for letting the characters ramble on about things that weren't necessary or even part of the plot - gigantic spiels about small facts that had nothing to do with what was going on, and frankly, weren't that interesting. The character's actions and dialogue didn't feel genuine. There were plot holes where characters suddenly knew the names of other characters they'd never met or been introduced to.
But the absolute worst part of the writing was that the narrative was unforgivably dry. It had a staccato pattern to it where long passages were cut into tiny fragments of sentences. There was no poetry to the word choice - and look, I'm not saying the writing needed to be flowery prose - but it felt like I was reading a textbook. There was no life to it... no flow to the passages.
I stopped at 3% into the book and was ready to put it away.... but I kept thinking that the story itself sounded interesting. I didn't necessarily hate the characters or the story itself... so I pushed. I stepped away for a while, and then I went back to it, thinking that maybe I was simply tired. Maybe I needed to give the book a second chance. At 9% I threw in the towel. I don't know if the book was simply over-edited to the point that all of the soul was sucked out of it, or if the author was somehow uncomfortable in her writing - all I know is that I didn't want to keep reading it. It wasn't good.
I'd love to pick up this book again and give it a third chance if it is ever edited and updated, but for now, I have to put it away. The inner copy editor in me (because yes, that is what I do for a living) simply can't abide by the narrative style.
It started out good, but then it got boring, espesially when the characters were going on and on about nonsense. The characters and story just fell flat and boring to me.
Every one of her books have kept me at the end of my seat! Hee twist and turns and how she can keep you captivated is amazing! This one is by far my favorite. Hurry and write the next one I'm in love!
Meet this brave young women who is the LAST hope out of all the creatures in this world, to save it. And nobody likes the fact that it is a weak, pathetic human. Atlas is a seeming normal human, who lost her mother and seems like her world feel apart in the first few chapters of her books, all because of her father. But it doesn't stop there. She learns of another world that she has become unwilling part of.
When she is whisked away after seeing her friend ripped in half, she meets Kane. A very sexy looking guy, who throws her a$$ out the window. Yes, out the window. All she knows is that Sadie sent her to him, and he is supposed to keep her safe. Not the way to start that off. But she slowly learns more and more of why all this stuff is happening to her, and what all the consequences of her actions will be and she still accepts. To save everyone. This author is new to me, and I love her. I love how descriptive she gets in some spots, and I have one clicked her next book to come out in this series because I have to read more. When the world for the most part is against you, and you are in love with the one demon you should not, and the angels seem shifty. You don't cry, you suck it up and get moving. Only so much time to save the world and all. All because boys will be boys.
First let me say BRAVO to the author for putting in warnings in places someone may want to skip!! Here is said warning. "Please note the rest of this chapter contains mature content. Younger readers can skip to the next chapter without missing any plot points."
That is not to say the story is not twisted and hold your breath as you go for a ride. As it is!! these scenes are a tad "hot" so its great she gives you the option to skip them.
The author did an amazing job building the angels, the "devil" workers.. even the worlds. So much so that you are transported into those beings and locations with out thought.
But this author seriously needs an editor to catch the some of the spelling and grammar mistakes.
With that being said it does end on a cliff hanger and you will need to buy the rest of the story for the full book!
This book had all my favorite elements in it! Mystery, intrigue, paranormal romance, I loved it. I thought one of the main characters, Kane, in particular was fantastic. Atlas was great too. Their romance is steamy yet rocky at best! LOL. Soo much going on at once in this book. I just found out it’s going to be almost a year until Book 2. Sooo disappointed!!! It leaves you hanging on the end of a snapping twig!!!!!
Don't start unless you have time to finish. This book had me hooked from the very beginning. Strong, unique characters. Creative, fast paced, emotional story line. One of the best I've had the pleasure to read recently! I can easily give it all five stars. Looking forward to the plans, and obstacles, in store next for Atlas and Kane.
I have read many of Ms. STtVil's stories. I've enjoyed each thoroughly. This one does not disappoint. Angels fighting demons for humanity. Sorry, I've got to go. The next book is calling me. Highly recommend this author. Her stories will immerse you in the world she has created. You won't be sorry!
Another great series by Lola StVil..... the story line kept me intrigued and wanting to turn page to see where the angels and demons a n d humans were doing, fighting playing or making love.... now I wait for next book

Ugh. I loved loved loved this book!! Snarky heroin badass, smart ass demon. Awesome characters all around. Secrets, action, love...had it all. Was really hoping the other book was out but then I realized this was just released. It's going to suck so bad waiting for the next one.
I loved this book, didn’t seem like I was reading a novel from her other series. But it’s t still had everything in it that I liked about the other series. Lola Stvill is an excellent author keep them coming!
I have to first say this book moves fast and is action packed. It deals with witches, demons, Angels and a lot of fighting to save the world. I couldn't stop reading. I want to read every book that comes with this one. It is that good.
Oh Lola! She has done it again. Created a world with totally authentic characters. A storyline with twists and turns and lots of drama! I am completely hooked and can't wait until the next book.
Once again I've found another series I'm in love with!! I can't wait until the next book comes out... anyone know when that'll be??? Lol I need to know!!! 😀
