FBI Agent Paul Harrison has spent the last 15 years feeling guilty about the murder of his girlfriend by the serial killer Doctor X. Her best friend, Abby Winthrop, has felt the same. She and her friend, Cass, had a falling out shortly before Cass' death.

As an investigative reporter, Abby does not believe that Doctor X murdered her friend and she's determined to find the truth ... and the real killer. What she finds is that Doctor X, now in prison, knows who killed Cass. She also knows that the local girls who are now disappearing are the work of the copy cat.

Now if only the FBI will believe her! Harrison has long had an attraction to Abby .. that's what caused the break among the three friends. But now she offers him peace and understanding and salvation ... if she only will.

Abby fell a little in love with Paul when they were all in school ... but he belonged to Cass and Abby wasn't one to intrude.

And now they are thrown together in a hunt for a serial killer that no one knew existed. Paul brings in Xooey, a computer whiz to help. But as they come closer to the killer, the more danger they all face.

And then Abby and Paul's young niece disappear ......

If you like Romantic Suspense, you will really enjoy this one. It's well written with suspense leading the way and a little romance following. There are moments of intimacy, but nothing over the top.

I enjoyed all the characters. Paul comes across as honest, with himself and everyone else. Family means a great deal to him, but his job is where he shines. Abby is a terrific investigator in her own right ... seeing things that the FBI and other law enforcement missed. Zooey is a hoot and a holler. She's very young, but absolutely brilliant. She has a tremendous sense of humor .... I wish she lived next door to me.

Many thanks to the author / Avon Publishing / Edelweiss for the advanced digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

As soon as I read the blurb I was hooked - onto the story and the cover. Yes, the cover is another part which had my attention. I love suspense book covers. Seriously they have me going strong for a good read.

The prologue had me widening my eyes in dread and surprise and that sense was with me till the end. The story started off strong and then it veered off to bring in the characters. I say characters because for me, everyone was equally important.

Abby and Paul were the main root for the story with Paul's steadfastness and Abby's resolute insistence that the killer was still free. All others like Robin and Paul's family were the ones who made the story go forward inspite of their not so centre spaces.

The author made use of words so expertly to weave a tale with great imagery and a very good plot. The words flowed so easily that I was immersed in the book from the start and it was a very easy read because of it. I was very much surprised when I finished the book in a very short time - literally few hours.

The story was geared up to be a suspense read with a bit of romance. Thank god for that, I loved the fact that the romance was lighter since I really didn't want it to overshadow the thriller part. And the thing I didn't like was that I wasn't able to guess at all. I so didn't expect the identity of the killer so I was miffed at the end.

What I got away from the book was that I would love to read more of the author's books. Yes,she has made the top ten list for me. Another great author to follow!

I received a copy voluntarily for reviewing purposes. Thank you for the opportunity.

My one line review : A perfectly plotted suspense with a bit of romance on the side.

My rating : 5/5

My reread factor : 4/5

Be a Good Girl started off with a bang. The prologue had my palms sweating and my heart racing. Not in the way you’re assuming though, I was afraid. We start in the last minutes of a 17-year-old girl who is about to be murdered. It was intense.

I’m not sure there’s a way to sugarcoat it, the prologue was the highlight of the book for me. There was plenty of mystery, suspense, and surprises. I don’t read a lot of thrillers or suspense books so this was a nice change of pace.

One thing I always appreciate in books is a strong female, and this book was packed full of them. From Abby, to Zooey, to Robin there wasn’t a single female waiting around for prince charming to rescue her. Something that isn’t seen often enough in these action packed books.

However, I was promised a romantic thriller and while the thrill was there; the romance wasn’t. The book was good, and I know many people will enjoy it. I enjoyed reading about Doctor X, and all the victims. The book was well written and engaging. I had no idea what to expect which I know from other bloggers is a rare feat when you read these sorts of books often.

Which brings me to the reason I can’t give this book 5 stars. When I read, it is from the perspective of a romance enthusiast. I look at situations and see opportunities for love. Be a Good Girl seemed to forget about the romantic half of it’s genre. It was frustrating to read through the numerous missed opportunities for Abby and Paul to develop the relationship and characters.

I found myself unable to connect with either of them. I didn’t feel invested in their relationship or even their happiness. There was no relatioship developed. This is a prime example of telling rather than showing. We’re told Paul has nightmares, we’re told there’s sexual tension, we’re told Paul is feeling possessive of Abby… but we never see it.

Overall, Be a Good Girl was a good book. It was well written and engaging enough to recommend to people who enjoy reading thrillers and suspense. You will not find your next book boyfriend in these pages, but the book led to a couple sleepless nights nonetheless.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

17 year old Abby lost her best friend, Cass, when she was murdered. 15 years later, Cass's mother asks Abby, an investigative journalist, to write Cass's story. Abby, after extensive research, comes to the conclusion that the infamous Dr. X didn't kill Cass - her murderer is still out there.

17 year old Paul lost his high school love. Cass's murder is what drove him to become an FBI agent. Now, 15 years later another girl he also loved deeply is digging into this old, solved case and believes that Cass's killer is still out there.

As kids Paul was the first boy Abby ever kissed. They were next door neighbors and shared everything the way true friends do. Be childhood doesn't last forever and other people often become more important. When Cass is murdered it was like a door swung shut on that part of their lives. Paul becomes a elite FBI Agent and Abby becomes an investigative journalist The both have returned to their small town and when Abby discovers overlooked evidence she goes to Paul and together they begin to track down a serial killer who has been hunting girls in Northern California for over 15 years. There is an attraction between them that has never been explored and as they work together it can't be denied. But there are deep wounds from the past and secrets that need to be exposed.

Great twisty plot and characters who are wonderful. I really loved this book even though it was heavy on the mystery/suspense and light on the romance - it worked.

Fifteen years ago, Cassandra Martin was murdered by a serial killer named Dr. X. Her best friend, Abigail Winthrop, is a journalist who has decided to write a story about Cass. But when she is digging through a copy of the police file on the murder, Abby uncovers evidence that proves Dr. X did not kill Cass. Abby turns to her former neighbor, FBI Special Agent Paul Harrison, for help. After learning about the evidence, Paul and Abby know the killer is still out there.

This romantic suspense story started off strong and didn't leave up. The mystery kept me guessing. I also enjoyed the friends to lovers romance. My rating: 4 Stars.

BE A GOOD GIRL was a great suspense that I quickly read through, desperately trying to figure out who the killer was. With a closed case from so long ago, Abby and Paul know they have their work cut out for them and I enjoyed putting together the puzzle pieces even if most of my guesses were wrong. For the most part, this book is concentrated on the mystery and there's very little romance plot. I would have enjoyed a little bit more one-on-one time for Paul and Abby to bond and connect by sharing parts of their lives. For instance, in a previous book Paul had a harrowing experience with a serial killer and it's left him struggling with PTSD. Abby finds out about this experience through another person but her and Paul never actually talk about it themselves. It's been such a huge part of Paul's life and I wanted those emotional moments when two characters share their struggles. However, Abby and Paul's long history as friends helped connect their characters and make their love story more believable. They have a very rich history and both have been suppressing feelings for the other so that emotion is already there in the relationship.

My favorite part of this book was probably Abby and I absolutely loved her dogged determination to find justice for Cass as well as to stop a vicious murderer. Abby refuses to let anything stand in her way, from Paul's protectiveness to her own fragile emotions where Cass is concerned. She knew going in that getting all the nitty gritty details of Cass's death was going to be exceptionally painful but she was willing to put herself through it to find the truth and make things right. One of Abby's greatest traits is her inner strength which is truly inspiring. This book is all about female empowerment and Paul's respect for all of the incredibly talented women he works with is wonderful to read. In fact, all of Tess Diamond's books have strong female leads that are supported by their male counterpoints.

Paul himself is also very intelligent and a great FBI agent but I do feel like he took a bit of a backseat to the story and that this was really Abby's investigation throughout. That being said, Paul is an all-around great guy that you just genuinely like from the beginning. To help out with the investigation Paul brings in his forensic and tech expert Zooey and I could definitely tell that Diamond was setting her up to be the heroine of hopefully the next book. We get to see a little bit more into Zooey's history and how she ended up as an FBI agent, which was a fascinating story, but we also really got to see the young genius at work. I also have my guess for who her hero will be and we'll just say that if I'm right those two are definitely going to make sparks.

Another book I read in like 24 hours.😅 I really enjoyed it but the ending seemed quick as they tend to. All the build up for such a short conclusion. I really thought I knew who the killer was like three times. There were a few loose strings they never fully address which sucks. But overall I enjoyed it.

My Thoughts:

This is exactly the type of book I have been looking for when it comes to romantic suspense! As a girl that enjoys a good mystery and also a good romance, romantic suspense should be the perfect blend of the two for me. For whatever reason though, I have a hard time finding romantic suspense books that I really enjoy. This author changed all of that for me now. I enjoyed both parts of this book equally and felt that it was a good blend of the two genres. In fact, I really couldn't stop reading this book once I got going. It was just so good and so hard to put down! In this book, Abigail is searching for the truth behind her best friend's death that happened many years ago. The police believe that they found her killer and he is sitting in prison for his crimes. When she comes across evidence that may prove otherwise, she is drawn into the hunt for the real truth behind her friend's death. The mystery portion of this book was both suspenseful and very intense. Like reading as fast as I possibly could intense to see how everything would turn out. But what also drew me into this book was the history between Abigail and Paul. There was this easy chemistry between them from the very beginning pages and I couldn't get enough of it. I also think that their shared history helped to make the relationship developing between them feel more natural. It wasn't one of those instal-loves that I despise so much. Instead, it almost felt like the relationship that developing was like coming home after being gone for too long - that feeling is the best way to describe it!

Overall, I am so excited to have found this author's books because I enjoyed this one so much! I actually already have another of her books on my shelves waiting to be read which pleases me to no end. I need more romantic suspense reads just like this in my life! I found this to be a heart-poundingly good read and one that I couldn't get enough of. I think that fans of mysteries and thrillers would enjoy this book just as much as fans of romance would. I'm planning on reading more by this author sooner rather than later. I would highly recommend!

Bottom Line: One of the best romantic suspense reads I've read in a long time!

Disclosure: I received a copy of this book thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher.

The images created in the mind of a reader are harsh, intense, and violent. The story takes the mind to the dangerous and deadly road of hunting for a serial killer where no one is safe, where the target is clear, yet the culprit manages to outsmart the law, the best in the field to find the killers and solve the fatal situations. The story is riveting, it is nearly spellbinding in a way it wrapped itself around my mind making it unputdownable until the end was there, in the early morning hours when the culprits were caught, and I could breathe again.
The suspense is savage and cruel. There are the Hannibal Lecter-moments that had me biting my nails, bringing the nightmarish atmosphere to the tale. There are those desperate moments when hunting for clues, the moments of knowing something to be true yet unable to prove it. I was mesmerized by the teamwork and the effort the characters put into the case, their dedication and determination were admirable.
For the perfect balance for the ghoulish serial killer hunt, bringing a different kind of intensity to the stage was the lifelong relationship between Special Agent Paul Harrison and Abigail Winthrop. The chemistry between Paul and Abigail was palpable, yet the tension of the past mistakes, the hurt, and the secrets revealed are like a wall between the childhood friends.
The budding romantic relationship has a solid foundation between the two who had most of their lives been the home, the safe place, to each other. Yet there were issues they needed to solve, to talk through, to heal from, forget and forgive. The attraction between them is as tangible as the connection they have. Being in each other's arms there is a fervent passion but also there are healing powers in the tender touch, in the hugs, and the kisses they share with each other in the middle of the mayhem and commotion.
Could the emotions between them and churning inside of them been taken to another level, deeper depth to bring more angst to the tale - sure, but in my mind, the crimes of the serial killer were such vicious, heinous acts, the new state of the relationship between Paul and Abigail was the counterbalance I needed, just as it was, to be able to truly enjoy the story without taking me completely into a dark abyss of the turmoil.
An alluring tale of two childhood friends who are in the middle of the turmoil with a serial killer on the loose and hunting for the next victim. The crimes are ghastly, violent, unimaginable, yet the tender, sweet, compelling attraction and deep emotion between the hero and the heroine bring the perfect balance to this intense, strong, and powerful romantic suspense story.
I loved it, could not put it down until the end, the smoothly flowing, well-written tale just pulled me in and kept the hold.

Be a Good Girl by Tess Diamond is another one of her exciting trademark romance suspense thrillers. Abby Winthrop, our heroine, is journalist who is writing a book that is close to her heart. 15 years ago, Abby’s best friend, Cass, was murdered by a serial killer, Doctor X, who is now in jail. Abby is determined to find the truth, having suspected that someone else was behind the death of her friend. When she talks to the evil egotistical Doctor X, Abby manages to get him to reveal a mistake that will prove he did not kill Cass.

Paul Harrison, our hero, is an FBI agent, who also has never gotten over Cass’s death, as she was his girlfriend. When Paul goes home to visit family, he runs into Abby, and accidently sees her information board revealing her investigation into Cass’s death. At first he is appalled that Abby has not moved on, but when she shows him all the clues, Paul will join hands with Abby to find out the truth. He will pull in his tech and forensics expert, Zooey, who was a fun addition to their team.

As the investigation get deeper, clues will be found that during the past 15 years, more missing girls have been discovered with similarities to Cass’s disappearance. As they realize a serial killer is still out there committing murders on young girls, the hunt is on to find the murderer.

In the background of this suspense thriller, is a slow build romance between Paul and Abby, who both have had feelings for each other for a long time, though they did not act on it due to their respect for Cass. That will change in time, as the past rears its ugly head, and the killer is closer to home than they realized.

What follows in an intense exciting pulse pounding adventure to find the killer and resolve the ties to Doctor X. Tess Diamond once again gives us another wonderful, well written suspenseful thriller, as I could not put the book down until I reached the end. I loved Abby, who was smart, savvy, tough and a great investigator. Paul was an excellent, fearless and tough hero, who has his own demons from bad cases; but when the killer threatens his family and Abby, he will pull all stops as we race to the exciting climax.

Being a thriller with a number of surprises, I will not tell too much more, which could ruin it for you. Tess Diamond again knocks this out of the park. I loved every moment of this book. If you like exciting intense romance suspense thrillers, with a bit of romance, then I suggest you read Be A Good Girl.

This is my first read by this author, and I wasn’t impressed. Maybe it’s rhetorical genre. I’ve simply ready better thriller/mysteries out there.

This one was an easy, simple read. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it felt simple and easy.

The romance was fine, but also another eye roller for me. It was the same old annoying “i can’t be with you because of i guilty i wanted you when we were teenagers” blah blah.

When they finally do get together it’s not felt . It’s just a thing that happens .

And i like my books wrapped up nice and neat, and this one wasn’t. There’s no explanation for how Abby and Paul are going to make their relationship work. Is he staying with the FBI? Are they going to do long distance? He is moving to her orchard?

Too many questions and I don’t like that.

The whole plot was just blah and it was clear the author was trying to be drastic and dramatic with it, but it fell so short.

I won’t be reading another one of this author’s books. Maybe if she just stuck to romance, but even then, it lacked depth.

Also can we take a moment to talk about the editing?? Was there even an editor? Like, the things i saw were so basic that I don’t know how a professional editor could have missed it.

This is the first so called suspenseful romance I have read and it was very good. Not to much mush just a bit and some I just skimmed over. The main part of the story was of a murdered teenager that had been killed by the notorious Dr. X and the case is closed. ( I would love to read a story about this Dr. X.) back to the story, so the case is closed or is it?
This is the main story line of this whole book, the murdered girl two long time friends which happen to be the best friend and the other the boy friend. So, yes this story weaves itself through periods of time but the way it is written it is easy to follow and a fast read. Totally enjoyed this book still want the Dr. X book. Is there one? I have no idea.

I like this author, and I really like this series, it reminds me a bit of Laura Griffin {who is one of my top 3 favorite authors}. However, with that being said, this book was barely fleshed out. The premise was excellent, the twists were excellent, but the depth was lacking. It needed to be about 100 pages of tight writing longer and I would have given it at least 4.5 stars.

So much promise, I was just a little let down. It had the potential to be much better than it was. I’ll definitely keep reading the series, though.

My backstory is that I found a copy at Dollar Tree, one of my favorite places for reading treasures. Tess Diamond is clever and fast paced, in league with Tom Harris, Patricia Cornwall, J.D. Robb, James Patterson, and Tami Hoag. Dr. X is certainly the love child of Hannibal Lector, and he, in turn, has a diabolical child. My only quibble is that the unsub turns out to be not very interesting. I'd like to see more of his backstory, or hints of his personality, as Joseph Wambaugh has done in The Onion Field. still, it's a page turner. I'm going to seek out more of Diamond's books.

I had a hard time getting into this one. I kept waiting for it to pick up speed but it never did. It just seemed to drag. I loved the author's previous work but this felt incomplete, maybe even rushed. The plot was one everyone's familiar with and one I usually enjoy but the characters were weak and the story never really got off the ground.

Gripping prologue, rocky start, goes wrong early on.

The premise and the story, the twists, are all old, and play out weak. This has been done better in many TV crime shows - L&O Criminal Intent (several episodes), Dexter, Lie to Me, others.

Here interesting characters are written in but used only as plot devices, and not very credible ones. .

Characters do stupid things for plot convenience.

This is ... a story. Not a great one, not as romance, thriller, crime novel.

There are some cool things in there, but they are just mentioned, window dressing. Reading this is like accessing the memory of reading a story, here's a few plot points, a specific interaction between two characters, and its done. Now, what was the title about? It's like the myth of Antaeus used, obscure, doesn't enrich the story.

I believe in giving credit where credit is due, and this book does several things very well with regards to its mystery plot and suspense elements. Though not as intricate as something that is meant to be just a mystery and not a romance book, I think it holds up really well in keeping enough of a focus on the problem at hand rather than getting sidetracked with shoving romance in the readers' faces.

That being said, it's also why I did not give it the full five stars that the good writing would otherwise deserve: because the romance, which is what this book is classified as, it just unsatisfactory. Not so much in that the characters aren't believable or that you don't want them to get together or anything, but it's a situation in which the characters already have a history connecting them, and the romance element of the story relies on the readers taking for granted that they care about each other and have tension and all that other good stuff that they would otherwise develop during the course of the novel in a purely harlequin book. While it keeps the focus on the mystery and doesn't distract from the main plot that they're searching for a serial killer, at the same time it was kind of unsatisfactory to just have them get together but not really flesh out the emotions leading up to that.

So, for that, all I can conclude is that Diamond was really interested in writing more of a mystery than a romance, but either she couldn't get publishers sold on the idea of a mystery long or complex enough to merit being cast into the genre, or she really did want to write a tamer non-harlequin romance, but in any case, the blending of genres works more in favour of one than the other in this book.

That's not to say that I didn't enjoy it though--just that if I ever plan to re-read it, it'll be with a mystery plot in mind, not a romance one.

A must read

Abby is a reporter and is doing a book about her best friend who was murdered years ago by a serial killer. Paul is a FBI agent and it was his girlfriend that was killed. Abby and Paul have known each other since they were toddlers. Abby goes and talks to Doctor X, the man who claimed to have killed Cass, her best friend. When she finds out he lied, she realizes the killer is still out there. Her and Paul investigate and find out seven others girls are missing and they were probably killed by the same man that killed Cass. They’ll do anything to find him, especially after another girl turns up missing.
First time reading this author and I absolutely loved it. She makes her characters relatable and it feels like you are right in the story too. Suspense, a little steamy, and best friends to lovers. I couldn’t stop reading it.

Another top notch book! WOW, did this book had me guessing who the killer was! I love how the author described both Paul and Abby's emotions for each other, their past, Cass's unsolved murder that gave them distance but also a deeper bond that made them who they were today. I absolutely loved the ending especially when Abby went to see Wells for the last time, she was a total bad ass. My favorite part of the book was when they both finalllly stopped denying their feelings for each other, stopped letting the past affect them and just went for it, and the way the author put their feelings to words? Fan- tastic!! Overall, an amazing book, I would definitely read again!

an excellent thriller takes the reader down till the last page. writing is good though could have been more crispier and shorter by atheist 50 odd pages. at some point the story felt slackening in pace but the plot gist was really new and exciting.
Abigail lost her close friend 15 years ago when Cass was murdered. A serial killer was caught and he admitted to murder Cass, but did he really do it or is there a twist to the story.
Paul and FBI agent and childhood friend of Abby joins her to unravel the truth.
overall good writing, nice plot, a new idea and keeps the reading pacy....

The last book in the series is fast paced but not as good as the first. It is a clash of egos between the teacher and his protégée and how a murder affected the lives of those who lived. I think it is predictable but an enjoyable read for this busy period. I do hope there will be more books in this series soon and that the author will add more depth to the characters. I felt that I got to know Maggie (from the 1st book) a lot more than Abby.

I really enjoyed this story, but I have been reading the likes of Cornwall, Slaughter, Rose etc for years now, and Tess Diamond is a new writer for me. As I said, loved the story, but could have used more descriptions, as it would draw you more into the story, more as if you were there instead of just reading about it. I will be reading more of Tess Diamond, as I think she is one to watch.
