Crash and Burn

Rate this book
When two strangers are stranded together after a plane crash, they’re in a fight for their lives…and their hearts.

Isabel Delgado refuses to let her fear of flying stop her from accompanying the rescue dog she’s volunteered with on her “freedom flight” from the animal shelter. On the contrary, Isa is determined to take this chance to overcome her fear, once and for all. The flight’s ruggedly handsome pilot is a welcome distraction, but when the plane malfunctions over a forest fire, Isa’s worst nightmare comes true as they crash into the fiery woods below.

Silicon Valley CEO Nate Peters volunteers his time and his private jet for animal rescue missions. After crashing in a remote area, he and Isa are in a fight for their lives, but as the flames close in around them, the flames between them burn just as bright. Isa’s passion and determination ignite something in him that Nate never thought he’d feel again. If they survive, they might have a chance at love.

4 - "Around the next bend..." Stars!

Rachel Lacey begins her new Stranded series with an absolutely rip-roaring adventure. I loved Isabel and Nate’s book so much I read it in one sitting!

Crash & Burn is a pretty apt title really, because they are in a plane crash, and they then have to navigate through forest fires to get back to safety with a husky called Maya. But while all this is happening, their feelings and attraction for each other grow as well.

"I’m glad we’re in this together..."

I really liked this couple, Isa isn't afraid to show Nate she is attracted to him, and although initially reluctant due to his past, he is a workaholic and the fact they live in totally different cities, it doesn’t take long for him to realize that life is for the living, especially with the situation they are currently in and seize the moments they have together.

"You turn me completely inside out just looking at you."

Sweet ending and epilogue, and I cannot wait to see what adventures the author has in store for the next couple in the series.

Crash and Burn is a short (150+ pages) survival romance following Isa and Nate when they crash in the middle of a forest fire. It was a free, easy read with plenty of action, but not a ton of drama. They’re both unattached and attracted to each other, but the romance isn’t instant…since they’re trying to stay alive.

Bottom Line- Ok, not bad…not awesome. I’d call it a solid teamwork romance. Both mc’s are likable, supportive, etc., the main conflict is survival. Short epilogue a few months after the rescue.

sorry but i just cannot get on board with a book where the mc is so purely fucking stupid as to take an ibuprofen when she has a head injury because she "survived the head injury" and "survived a swim in a frozen lake" so she'll "take her chances" with a BRAIN BLEED

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: https://romancingthereaders.blogspot....

I was so happy when I heard that Rachel Lacey was coming out with a new series. I really enjoy her books and wouldn't mind more of them. Then I read the blurb and thought...am I going to like this?

Well to answer that question, yes, I am going to like this.

Crash and Burn is a quick read that is a nonstop thrill. Now, you know it will end well because it's a romance, but that didn't take away from the fact that you don't know what or how it's going to happen.

I found myself more then once crossing my fingers hoping that they would come out of this okay. Silly, I know, but I really couldn't help myself. You really will enjoy both Isa and Nate. You'll also like Maya too.

As a whole I really enjoyed the story and felt the caring and love from both Isa and Nate. Considering the fact that the main story takes place in about five days you believe their feelings. Something that's not always easy with short books.

This quick moving story is very believable in fact. You will feel like you are there with them running from the fire. Scary!

Yes, I really enjoyed the story but I think I would have liked it to be a little longer. Not that I'm sure it would have worked as well if it was. Weird I know. I just really liked them and would have liked to know or spend more time with their families. It's the only negative and I'm not even sure if it is one.

FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE AUTHOR DIRECTLY. HOWEVER, I ALSO PURCHASED A COPY FOR MY PERSONAL COLLECTION. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!

This is the first time I have read anything by this author, so I went into the book with a little bit of trepidation. While I had some issues with the book overall, I was very impressed by the author's writing style overall.

I have to say, I found it very easy to connect with the characters overall, but I hated the fact that we really didn't get in depth with them. I understood that the situation they found themselves in didn't lend itself to a "getting to know you" phase, it is something I would have appreciated seeing upon their exit of that situation. Both Isa and Nate were strong characters, and realistically written, but they felt a little flat to me, probably due to the lack of depth into their backstories.

The plot, while interesting, was a little too fast paced for my tastes. I felt like a lot of things were just glossed over, due to time and/or page constraints. I also felt that there were some story threads that were left dangling, and I really wanted to know what the resolution on them was. It made for a slightly implausible read to me.

All things considered, I think this is a decent introduction to both the author's writing and this series, and I'm looking forward to exploring more by this author.

CRASH and BURN: Book #1 in a new series STRANDED was amazing!!!

When Isa Delgado decides she's going to fly with the shelter dog Maya who will have new home..well she's rethinking as soon as she sees the plane. But the cute and hot pilot makes her change it. It will be ok she keeps telling herself. Nate also happens to be the owner and CEO of the company which is taking her. What they don't foresee are problems.

A wonderful book I couldn't put down. Ms. Lacey has done it again. I just love her books. She made me laugh, and made even cry with so much happiness at the end. It was moving.

Buy the book to find out find the excitement which also comes when reading this book.

What an an amazing book to read driving through Quebec, mountains, water and view that will make one's heart " to crash and burn" for sure.
... reading about a couple struggling and fighting for their survival ... despite the cold nights their hearts quite resistant to the cold but chilled to the bone ... and the fury of the fire so obvious I could smell and feel the choke it caused, the challenge of creative meal menu served up from the land. ... a wonderful faithful buddy to round up this unit of three. ..

Although only acquaintances at the time the small aircraft took off ... their lives change ... for a man, a woman and a wonderful dog ! Their three lives seem up for the challange .... but it seems, then, there is absolutely no hope ~ luck comes in threes .... a perfect matching for readers ... Rachel Lacy has created a perfect trio to keep one reading right to the end of this book ! A creative storyline with lots of suprises, kept me running away from the fire... and fear the unknown in the wild.... my heart pounding ... but struggled to remain hopeful !

What a great romantic book to read on my 40th wedding anniversary ! ... and driving north through this province. ! ... and finish reading it while here in romantic Old Quebec City ! sigh

a big 5star ... launched in a new wonderful new series.

This was pretty fast paced. This book for me was about survival and overcoming your fears. Isa is terrified of flying, which I get because I am too, and her first flight ever does nothing to help her overcome that fear when over a Forrest fire the plane experiences technical difficulties and Nate needs to land it in a non graceful way. But I totally admire Isa because even though her biggest fear came true she stayed strong during her and Nates adventure. She remained calm even though she was scared to death. And during all the drama she falls for her Pilot. Who has sworn off relationships. He's been burned before and isn't looking to do so again. And even though he is attracted to Isa he refuses to fall for her because of his fears.
I have to admit I was scared for them in specific areas. And I also was pulling for them both to overcome their fears. Again it was a short read but it was pack with so much. From fear to lust to relief. So totally loved it.

This was a great adventure book with some sparks thrown in as well.

Isabel Delgado had to fight her fear of flying to take a rescue husky Maya to her new home, taking her on her freedom flight as she was free from the pound. Nate Peters, who is a CEO & flies for relaxation & for fun donates his time & plane for these animal rescues. During the flight they have engine trouble over a forest fire but he is able to crash land the plane.

They have to rely on each other to make it through the forest & get ahead of the flames. They both have qualities needed for their task & sparks fly between them while they work hard to survive. I loved how they both listened to each other & worked together to make it out alive.

I really enjoyed this story! I found the story very fast moving and loved how Nate and Isa dealt with the situation of the plane crash and the forest fires. The characters were reasonable and not overly dramatic with the situations and I really enjoyed that! Maya added a cute aspect to the story! Very glad Ms. Lacey finished the story with an epilogue wrapping up the story!

SPOILERS THROUGHOUT
I absolutely cannot stress how awful this book was. I can't think of a single thing that was done right. If you're looking for a similar book to 'On the Island', don't buy this book. I think I spent less than £2 and it was still a waste.

Firstly, Nate had the sex appeal of a bag of shite. Creating a hunky, attractive love interest is perhaps the one thing that an author of this genre needs to do, yet Rachel Lacey failed miserably. His demeanour came across as cocky and arrogant rather than mysterious (oh he can't ever think about dating Isa because he doesn't believe in love or marriage and she'll definitely fall in love with him! But he can finger her in a tent though), and his calling Isa 'sweetheart' every five seconds made me want to vomit. I cringed internally every single time. Is 'sweetheart' a sexy, endearing term in America? Because in England it's what old men call you when they stare at your tits when you're 16 at your part-time job in B&Q.

Secondly, the dialogue was ATROCIOUS. I get that this is a survival book. I get that the main plot is that the characters are running from a terrifying forest fire. But surely the dialogue should reflect that the characters somewhat like and know each other? I think there were about 5 conversations before Isa kissed Nate, the first being 'hi', the second being 'the plane's fucking crashing', the third 'jump out the plane into this freezing cold river' and the fourth being 'we should take off all our clothes so we don't catch a cold ;)'. It was just...bad. The first kiss literally came out of nowhere. No build-up, no tension. I think there has to be something stopping from the two main characters from being together. Nate's married? Isa has terminal cancer? It doesn't really matter. But being presented with two characters, who are both of similar ages and both establish a mutual attraction for each other, I didn't give a flying fuck. The awful dialogue made the relationship between Isa and Nate lack authenticity. It meant that I didn't care whether they lived or died.

OH and Nate proposing to Isa at the end? I had to put my kindle down and just laugh. Because of course he did. Of fucking course.

In conclusion, 1/5 (for Isa, who's a queen).

This was a quick read but enjoyable. I love stranded together plot lines because characters can either bond really well or be at each other’s throats. In this case, Isa and Nate bond and find solace in each other. They do fall in love quickly (within a week) but Rachel Lacey does a pretty good job of fleshing out their characters and their romance.

The survival aspects were done really well. There was plenty of tension from external problems (a nearby forest fire, finding food, getting lost, etc.) while also plenty of down time for Isa and Nate to get to know one another. I also appreciated that their survival skills weren’t just something they magically knew: Isa was a huge fan of survival TV shows and Nate had a basic grasp on what to do if his plane ever went down.

Isa was a really sweet and likable heroine who just kept on going no matter what got in her way. She was strong, determined, and knew what she wanted. She never let Nate hide behind his excuses or fear.

I wanted Maya, the dog, to have a stronger presence or bonding moment. She’s the whole reason they’re on the plane to begin with and it’s obvious from the beginning that Isa will end up keeping her. That being said, I kind of wanted her to go into protective mode and be this great companion for them.

As a fan of Rachel Lacey's contemporary romances, I'm excited about her exploring a new side of her writing. And as a reader that has been interested in disaster/survival/adventure romances, I was chomping at the bit for Crash and Burn. I was on the edge of my seat from the moment Isa and Nate stepped foot on the plane. You can feel their desperation and the determination to survive. I liked that they truly had no idea what they were doing and are relying on sheer instinct. That gave the book an element of "holy shit, this could go seriously wrong." Especially towards the end where things got dire. At its core, Crash and Burn is a romance so you know that things will end happily, but how these characters get to that point is by traveling on extremely rocky road. And I loved that Rachel did not go easy on her characters.

What I am most excited about is that Crash and Burn is the beginning of a new series that is totally different from Rachel's prior works. I cannot wait to see where she goes next with the series. How is she going to build upon it? How will they be connected? What disaster or accident will appear next? All questions I'm excited to have answered in the next book.

I received an advance copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

Holy Smokes!!

This was an awesome story. So much packed into such a short amount of time. I would have liked it to last longer.
Isa, Nate and Maya stranded from a plane crash with nothing around them but a stream, some mountains and one raging forest fire.
Isa proved to be quite the survivor and between them both survive they did and even managed to find a bit of humor in a dire situation. Their chemistry was also smoldering.
I do wish there could have been a bit more into their lives at the end, but it didn't deter from a really good read.

A man, a woman and a dog - stranded in the wilds. I was reading the moment I finished the synopsis. Even though the storyline was somewhat predictable (it is a HEA), the flow of writing made an enjoyable 4 1/2 listening pleasure.

This book was not the usual Rachel Lacey book and I should know, I've actually read all of them. This is a story I've not read before and it puts to light what your brain thinks about when you think that you're about to die.

Isa Delgado is terrified of flying and now she has to step foot into her first ever plane ride to help a rescue dog that only responds to her.

The rescue is a husky dog named Maya who likes to run away when things get rough. This does not help Isa with her fear of flying but the hunk who was her pilot might help matters a bit.

Take off was not so bad and it relaxed Isa to see Maya calm during the flight. Just when she thought that flying might not be so bad, everything goes horribly wrong.

Nate lives to fly. He's been flying for as long as he can remember. That's why he did not foresee any problems in flying a lady and her dog to their destination.

Things don't go as planned when in the middle of their flight, shit hit the fan and Nate was forced to land in the middle of a lake. He was able to get everyone out okay, but another complication arose when it became glaringly obvious that they landed near a bush fire.

Now Isa and Nate are stuck with a nervous dog that can take off at any moment? How are they to survive with barely and food and water?

This book was a different approach than the other Rachel Lacey books and I thought that is had potential. I know how that sounds, but she missed so many opportunities to push this story to new heights.

First off, there was no conflict in this story. The only obstacle was that they were walled off by a fire and they had to keep moving or die of smoke inhalation. That's good and dandy but she could have played on the part of how Nate wife left him and used that as a shield of a growing romance between them.

It can also be used as a reminder for Nate why women are bad for him at the moment and start a fight anytime he finds himself wanting to kiss Isa, and no matter how mad they are at each other, they have to work together to survive. This would have made the story way more interesting.

Also, I think that it was unnecessary for Nate to be rich. Rich playboy had been done to death and it did not add anything to the story. It would have made more sense for his job to be a pilot and that his plane was his only source of income and that would have been something that was constantly on Isa's mind that made her feel guilty on Nate's behalf.

I know that it's totally easy for me to say this since I did not write the book. And judging by my five unfinished novels, I know how hard it is to write a book, much less to finish it AND get it published.

Don't get me wrong, this book was still a lot of fun to read, it's just that I could not help noting so much missed opportunities to make this book much more tension filled and exciting both emotionally and physically.

I really love Rachel Lacey and her work and I can't wait to read the next book in the series, since 'Crash and Burn" was a good start to an interesting series.

Isa is determined to get over her fear of flying. She's applied for a job that requires frequent traveling. In preparation for the job Isa volunteers to take Maya, a rescue dog, to her forever home. Nate, a CEO, loves to fly in his downtime and offers his services for the freedom flight.

While flying around a wild fire, Nate's plane suddenly loses power and they're forced into a crash landing. The "softest" place Nate can land the plane is over the water. Using the parachute helps the landing not be as rough, but they only have seconds after landing to get out of the plane before it sinks. Isa soon realizes flying is the least of her worries!

Since they had to fly around the wild fire, search and rescue won't know exactly where to look for them. They have very little food, no way to make a fire, cold/wet clothes, a slowly encroaching wild fire, wild animals, and they are STRANGERS! I believe this was the best Rachel Lacey novel I've read to date! The action, the fear, the hunger were palpable. I loved the fast paced adventures! I enjoyed the talks and moments they shared. Nate's realization that being a CEO and making more money than he could ever spend was NOT as important as family and love, was life changing. Holding Isa and making sure they made it home so he could take her on a date, was more important than his next breath. Of course, Maya was an awesome dog! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

I read this book in one go, I loved it so hard and it was so compellingly written, I’m just in awe of Rachel Lacey's writing abilities. Without much of a décor (although the wilderness and a looming wildfire is décor enough) the story between Isa and Nate is about attraction, tension and the fight to stay alive. They’ve come to know each other thoroughly in a short time frame, and while reading through it, I was on the edge of my seat all the time and wondering if they could make it.
Terrified of flying, Isa Delgado is determined to conquer her fears. Agreeing to accompany a dog on her "freedom flight" from the shelter, Isa gets ready for the journey of her life, boarding a plane with a sexy and rugged pilot.Silicon Valley CEO Nate Peters volunteers his time and personal jet for animal rescue missions. Flying the stunning and compassionate Isa is just an added perk of the job. But when the plane malfunctions over a forest fire, Isa's biggest fear comes true as they crash into the fiery woods. After crashing in a remote area, Nate and Isa must find sanctuary in the midst of the forest as flames threaten to engulf them. Nate and Isa fight for survival as they seek comfort in each other's arms. With time running out, will they outrun the fire that burns around them while igniting the desire that heats up between them?

Rachel Lacey is coming out with a brand new series, “Stranded”, with “Crash And Burn” leading the series as Isa Delgado and Nate Peters are stranded in the wilderness with danger and flames chasing them.

Working as a volunteer, Isa agrees to kill two birds with one stone; accompany a dog to its adopted home and get over her fear of flying. Silicon Valley billionaire Nate Peters volunteers his time and jet for animal rescue missions and having Isa, as his co-traveller is an added perk. But then as fate has it and Isa’s worst nightmare come true, her first flight ends in a crash in the wilderness as forest fires rage around them, and it becomes a race against time as to who is going to win the fiery battle.

A different path for Rachel Lacey from her contemporary romances, “Crash And Burn” sure brings out her creative side as she explores the wilderness romance, survival and developing a relationship between Isa and Nate with no supporting characters or sub-plots. She sure does a good job and if you’ve read her previous books, you’ll definitely relate to the change in her writing and narration, and she keeps it interesting and captivating.

Isabel's first time on a plane and she's nervous. Nate's the pilot who reassures her.
Only the plane had other ideas.
They crash land right near a forest fire.
The story was their survival, and budding romance that started during the crisis.
There was action. And I'm sure if you were one of the MC's that action would be a lot to deal with.
No angst. I would say no drama, but I guess an encroaching fire that you are trying to escape is pretty dramatic.

There wasn't a lot of back story. Which, I guess when you are on the run, and worrying about finding food to eat, you might not feel all that chatty. But I have no idea if they fit together well, or if it was just the adrenalin from the high-stake situation.
There was some talk about making a long distance relationship work. One thing that could help is getting to know each other when it's not life and death.

I didn't care for the ending. I felt like they weren't at that stage in their relationship yet. Between the life and death rollercoaster ride transitioning to long distance, they didn't know each other enough. And now what? Do you magically agree on where to live?
But it was a nice read.

Stranded! We embark on a ride of adrenaline rushed panic giving way to lusty connections being forged in the face of danger. The characters are well developed and grab your attention from the start. The plot, while obviously dealing with a short time-frame is face paced and satisfying. I enjoyed taking this journey with Isa & Nate!

Of all the days Isabel Delgado has to decide to face her fear of flying and actually get on an airplane, it has to be the day sexy CEO Nathaniel Peters has to make a crash landing! Just her luck!!

Isa set out to accompany a dog on her flight from an animal shelter to her rescue home in Oregon. Nate was on his way from one business meeting to another and volunteered his time and plane to do the transport. When a mechanical issue causes him to have to bring the plane down, they are left to forage the countryside to try to make shelter and survive until a rescue crew can find them. Only problem is, they crashed near a forest fire and before long, they are running for their lives!

3.5 stars.

This was a fun short thing.

We meet Isa and Nate, these two have the crappiest of lucks when their airplane goes down and they land in the forest where there’s a fire going on, lol.

Anyway, this is when things get real and you can show what you’re made of; in Isa’s case, that means she showed she’s a badass. Super calm and helpful and boy how did she stay so positive, I’ll never know. Loved her!

As for Nate, he was a cool guy; a little jaded in his life, but someone who really needed the right person to let go of the past. I liked that they both worked their issues and were even able to get a little something in the midst of being stuck in the woods.

The story moves a little fast, but still is able to develop these characters. I’m not a fan of characters falling for each other too fast, but I understood that these circumstances were not normal for these characters.

This was a short, fun story. Loved Maya as well and I’ll check the rest of the series.

*Thank you to the author for providing an ARC in exchange of my honest opinion*

Heart stopping, fast paced, and completely swoon worthy!

Absolutely riveting!!!

I have never in my life wanted to get into a plane crash and stranded in the wilderness with a complete stranger while a forest fire is on the loose.... but Rachel Lacey makes it seem so exciting and so darn sexy!!! This is exactly what happens to Isa and Nate. They are in complete survival mode, their emotions are high, and there is a whole lot of chemistry! Wowza! This makes for an absolute page turner.

I could NOT stop!!! Rachel Lacey took me on an emotional roller coaster. It was completely gut wrenching at moments and then I would find myself laughing out loud, reading with a smile on my face. The nail biting anticipation had me on the edge of my seat, while the lust and love story of Isa and Nate had me swooning out loud. Gah... this story has EVERYTHING!!!!

This is an absolute MUST READ!!! Please tell me there is more to come in this series. I NEED more!!

Sizzling Attraction! Isa And Nate's story pulled me in, left me a little bit breathless, and kept me in its grasp until the end. This was a smoking hot romance, beautifully written, intensely suspenseful and the chemistry between Isa and Nate is electric.
As these two strangers survive a plane crash, they then realize they are in the path of a forest fire. As they struggle to find their way, through the wilderness to safety, they must face, hunger, desperation, suspense and danger at every turn. Their sizzling attraction to one another comes alive, as they struggle to survive. You don't want to miss their journey. A fantastic story about survival, romance, and perseverance. This had a fantastic mix of suspense, heart and a whole lot of sweetness. Awesome story. Loved it!

When I first read the description of this book, I'll admit, I was a bit hesitant and could not figure out how this book would keep my interest throughout. I mean, how could a forest fire be that interesting? Yah. Let's just say that Rachel Lacey proved me SO WRONG with this book!

Nate and Isa were fantastic. Isa was terrified of flying, and wouldn't you know it, her first flight goes terribly wrong, and she and Nate end up crashing in the mountains near a forest fire. The two of them need each other to survive this crazy and dangerous adventure, AND ensure that they were saved at the end.

The mixture of heat between both characters, and the heat of the fire, made for one absolutely addictive story from start to finish! Literally couldn't put it down until the very end! Well done, Rachel!

A humanitarian mission turns into a fight for survival. Isabel agrees to accompany a dog named Maya from the shelter she's been in to her new home. It requires a plane ride which Isabel is afraid of. Nathaniel volunteers his spare time flying for the organization Pilots for Pets. His company has made him enough money that he has his own plane.

I enjoyed this story. Isabel is tough even though you think at the beginning that she isn't. Nathaniel is determined not to fall for another woman. He's fighting the hurt & disillusionment of a divorce. Maya is lovable & really was an integral part of the story.

This is the first book in the Stranded series by Rachel Lacey. In this book you have pure adrenaline running to keep two humanitarian's alive as they try to survive a plane crash and forest fire. Isa and Nate are complete opposites yet drawn to each other for many reasons in which neither one of them are able to explain. I felt that Isa and Nate were left with no choice but to fall for one another with the excruciating paths they had to take in order to survive the horrid journey they had been placed in. They learnt so much from one another in less that a weeks time. It was no wonder that they ended up together. The chemistry and their survival depended upon them working together as one.

Crash and Burn (Stranded #1)
By Rachel Lacey

**I have received an ARC for an honest review! **

Rachel has done it again! I have read many of her books and this one sure didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to read the next book in the new series.

This is a story about Isa and Nate. Isa has a rescue dog, Maya to take to her new home. Maya boards a plane in which Nate is the pilot. When they fly over a forest fire a lot of tragedies happen. There journey made me sad, happy, and suspenseful.

You will love this story. You won’t be left disappointed. Even though I received an ARC, I also purchased the book. It was that good!!
