RNWMP: Bride for Theodore

Rate this book
Jessica Sanderson knows what it means to love unconditionally. She has doted on the same man for over a decade, and she’s in her early twenties. When that man’s mother asks her to be her traveling companion, she gladly accepts. She doesn’t want to spend the rest of her life sitting in a bank, after all. When the plan changes to something a bit crazy, she drags her feet, but finally agrees, only to have her heart broken in two.
Theodore Hughes remembers Jessica from when they were younger, but he hasn’t given her a second thought in years. When she comes to visit him as his mother’s traveling companion, he’s shocked to find out what his mother has up her sleeve. It doesn’t take him long to think that his mother might be right. But could Jess give up the comforts of city life to be a Mountie’s wife? Or will they spend the rest of their lives alone?

A good start to a new series, finding brides for the Mounties.
It felt a bit like if she hadn't of cooked so well she would never have got as far as she did in his eyes.

Jessica has only cared for one person, Theodore Hughes but he left a long time ago to Bec one a Mounty. When Theodore’s mom wants to go travel she ask Jessica to be her companion.

While out they here of mail order brides and comes up with an idea. Mrs Hughes sets them out to go see Theodore and Jessica is prepared to marry him and even has packed a nice dress. She is nervous what if he doesn’t want her. But his mom reassures her that things will work out.

Theodore doesn’t even remember Jessica at first and that hurts her and he surely doesn’t want a bride. They end up staying at his cabin and cook for all the other mounties as well. Can these two come together or will she return wit Mrs Hughes?

I love this series and easy to get into the book and not put it down until you are done.

Clean and very simple romance. I'm not sure if this was so simplistic because it's something of a prequel to the rest of the series or if it's more a reflection of the style of the author. The story had plenty of dialogue but no depth. There was little in the way of descriptive writing to fill in the characters and their surroundings. Motivations were very basic and unimaginative. Every time the female main character went out to pick berries I was hoping a moose or a bear would show up just to give the story a little excitement. Instead, it felt like reading about my own day, some cooking, some cleaning, a bit of laundry. The men were vaguely appealing but other than an over-emphasis on how much they appreciate a good meal they were all just benignly uninteresting.
No violence, no sex, no swearing.

Reviewed at Romantic Historicals

I’m always ready for a new series with a focus on an historical group that I’m not too familiar with. Of course I’m aware of the Mounties, as a police force to be reckoned with during the 1900’s and beyond. Yet, I cannot recall one romantic story that I’ve read about them on a more personal level, so I’m definitely looking forward to more stories in the Mail Order Mounties series.

We begin with a delightful introductory tale of one romance and how this series began… with one inspired, alright, at times meddling matchmaking mother, one stubborn man and a young woman who believes that her young love for a stubborn man could be so much more.

When Hazel offered Jessica the chance to ditch her boring bank job and come be her traveling companion a whole new world opened up. One full of adventure, new things to see and… a marriage to Hazel’s son? Jessica has loved Theodore for years from afar. He really hasn’t seen her in a romantic light but she dreams on. Now visiting the station where Theodore and the other Mounties of his unit are assigned his mother has come up with a brilliant plan. Only Theodore says no, no way, no how. But perhaps he’s been a bit hasty. Jess fits in with his friends so well, her cooking is out of this world… and just maybe there is a spark between them that could grow, if he’d leave his stubborn pride behind and really see this young woman’s worth and her love for him. If it’s not too late…

I enjoyed Bride For Theodore, it perfectly set up the series and gave us a delightful couple to start things off with. This series is definitely on my radar, and I’ll be happily following along for the adventures to come.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Absolutely beautiful! I love this era and the "mail order bride" genre, and this series is particularly a favourite, being Canadian based. Nothing like the Mounties to get your motor running! This is the first in this new series, and I have to say, Ms. Osbourne has done a wonderful job. I love the fact that Jess has been mooning over Teddy for so long, yet no-one has ever realized it. When Ms. Hazel sweeps her off on a voyage of a lifetime, it's no wonder the bond between these two women has strengthened to a point that not only can Jess picture Ms. Hazel as her mother-in-law, but that Ms. Hazel sees the same picture. If only Teddy will complete the vision. But all is not destined to "go as planned" as per the book of Ms. Hazel. At least not so easily.
Beautifully written, this book is not only the beginning, it's the start of what promises to be an awesome series. I am thoroughly looking forward to the rest of the series.

I love the story. Having this series set in Canada in the early 1900's is a treat. We get to learn about how the Mounties work, How life in early Canada was and take flight in a brand new fun series. Jessica and Theodore are meant to be. His Mother Miss Hazel sees this little jaunt out to Squirrel Ridge, British Columbia as the perfect way to marry her son Theodore to Jessica. Jessica is not aware that Theodore has no idea whatsoever that is what is taking place. It is a rocky start for them and this book has a few twists and turns until the Happily Ever After is reached! Kirsten is an excellent story teller and her plot and characters are beautifully developed and written. You will not be disappointed and will definitely want more of this series!

Jess(ica) and Teddy Theodore

If you have watched and enjoyed the Hallmark channel series, When Calls the Heart, you will love this series of Canadian Mounties finding their true loves.
Jesus has loved Teddy for her whole life. When Teddy's mother tricks Jess into traveling to British Columbia making her think that she's going to get married to Teddy. However, when they arrive and Teddy learns why they're there, he is not a happy camper. In fact, he treats Jess rather rudely. Will Jess have to return to Ottawa in humiliation or will Teddy realize in time that Jess is the love of his life and stop her from leaving? Enjoy this tale of love and the dangers of miscommunication.

I'm not familiar with this author but after reading this I probably wouldn't go for any more of her books if they are of a similar vein. I think this is possibly the most passionless love story I have ever read, at no point did I feel how much he loved her. OK he made a gesture at the end but really he could have just not wanted to loose her cooking skills. Shame really because it was a nice concept for a story. From the other reviews this author has fans for whom this was perfect but for me it was just too bland. I quite like a gentle love story but I would have enjoyed this more if I got the feeling that Theodore was madly in love with Jess, which I never did.

Surprise bride

Jess is friends with Teddy's mom in Ottawa. She's been in love with Teddy since she was 10. He's gone out west to be a mountie and his mother decides he needs a bride. She tricks Jess into thinking Teddy has agreed to marry her. He's really upset and rude when they arrive.

Jess decides to forgive him when he apologizes and they get to know each other. She loves him and he loves her but it can't be that simple. He has to ask her to stay and he thinks she doesn't want to because there are no women there and she'd have no friends.

This is a sweet story with affection but no heated sex scenes.

This book starts it all in the Mail Order Mounties series. Jessica has always had eyes for Theodore. His mom gets Jessica to be her travel companion. She has a hair brained idea to fix Jessica up with her son. They travel where he is serving as a mountie. Shocked when Jess gets off the train, he has no intention of marrying her. Sad, but carrying on with cooking and cleaning, she puts her time in good use. Other single mounties sure warm up to her good cooking. Will Jess be a bride after all? Will Theodore come around and change his mind? I know I am going to really love this series.

Jessica Sanderson has loved Theodore Hughes practically her whole life. She worked closely with his mother for church projects and grew to love her as well. One day when his Mother asks her to drop her job and travel the world with her she quickly agrees. It turned into a short adventure after their trip to Boston. While there Theodore's Mother got the idea to make Jessica her daughter in law and marry her off to her Teddy. Jessica isn't sure if Mrs. Hughes plan will work but she would love to be married to Teddy.
Great short, historical, clean romance with a happy ending.

A nice premise.

I hate to say this, but I was disappointed by this book. I'm a big fan of historical mail-order bride books. Throw in a Canadian Mountie and I'm hooked. I really liked the characters, but the story lacked adventure, not much of a plot. Normally I will read the first book in a series, before downloading the second book. I broke my rule based on the reviews, many of which were 5 stars, and downloaded the first six! I' m really hoping they improve, as I don't like to say anything negative about a book. But time is precious and I do have sooo many books to read.

Another short story prices as a novel - so I'm done with the series - it's not worth it. As for this story, well the storyline is flat and cliched and so is the characters - not one character was really described, nor was the town or anything. It's hard to imagine the story in your head when you have nothing to go by. The timeline wasn't set as well, so I don't know when the story is supposed to play off. There's no character growth, a lot of things were mentioned and never used, so why mention them at all. The town has a silly name but it was never explained why.

Mail order bride

Kay Dawson put interesting in getting her hero married. She went so far as to have his mother hand pick the bride. Jess was always in love with teddy but with the first rejection to the final i do you laughed , cried, chuckled, wanted to knock on some heads to see if anyone was home . I gave it a 5star because it was a fun read and a page turner, way to go, Kay

Surprise

Boy was Theodore surprised when he found out his mother brought Jessica out from Ottwa to be his bride. How dare she match him up with a wet behind the ears nuisance of a girl he knew as a child. Read how fate bring these two together. Do they fall in love? Read to find out what happens. This book is written for those who love stories about finding love! It is a quick easy on the eyes read.

I really enjoyed Kristen Osbourne's ( Brides of Beckham series ) but this one not as much as I was hoping. Honestly it became frustrating by the minute I kept reading, I couldn't keep reading I had to keep the book so many times. I was really annoying and I didn't understand why was she in love with him in the first place she never knew him nor he ever liked her. Now that she scrubbed his floor and cooked meals that they liked he started to see her as a bride to me he wanted a maid not wife.

Just Delightful!

The opening to a new Canadian Mountie series, all the characters introduced are charming and have their own unique personalities! I loved the interaction between Jess and Miss Hazel, the consummate busybody. But mostly, I loved watching Jess and Teddy fall in love. She'll whip him into shape in no time!

Happy 150 Birthday Canada!!

I love love love this book and can't wait for more!!! What a great start to a new series. Misunderstandings mess things up so often if they are not cleared up right away. That's what happens to our Mountie and his love. Can they put their pride aside and work things out? 2 Thumbs up Ms Osbourne for lots of snickers and grins throughout this book.

This new series is going to be fantastic and Kirsten Osbourne's first book was awesome and I loved the characters. I am glad to see a Mountie series with authors from the Pioneer Hearts Group and I am anxious to read the next book. Great characters, meddling moms and great story, one you will want to read. I highly recommend this book and I think the who series.

Loved this little intro to a long series of Mail Order Brides. I've been obsessed with Hallmark's When Calls the Heart tv show and thought I would further my knowledge on RNWMP.

I like how Teddy and Jess finally got themselves both figured out and how to work out for each other. Look forward to the next group of ladies.

Meddling mothers and all the sweet trouble they can cause.

Mail order brides are some of my favorite stories, so I want to thank the author for the free read. But with that being said, I will tell you I will be looking for her continuing stories of the other brides as I enjoyed this one so well.

This sweet romance is the beginning of a nice little series. Jess is a typical mail-order bride but Theo is a little more interesting. The story could do with some action in between Jess trying to show Theo how perfect a housewife she is and Theo eating like there’s no tomorrow but the story certainly sets up a whole host of new characters waiting for love.

What treachery!

I've read several mail order style books where the groom didn't ask for a bride, but I think this one takes the cake! Enjoy the meddling Mrs. Hughes who is the self proclaimed matchmaker in this fun new series!

Lol

This story was so cute and full of misunderstandings on both their parts. Daddy's mom was wrong about how she went about this but I'm glad she did. I liked how you brought Elizabeth from Beckham into this book.

True love triumph in the end.

Jessica and Teddy have miscommunications from the outset. They went through some hard times before they finally learned how to say what they really wanted to say.
