All that up-and-coming musician Jesse Jamison has ever wanted is to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. When a gossip website nearly catches him kissing someone who isn’t his famous girlfriend—and also isn’t a girl—he considers the near miss a wake-up call. There’s a lot riding on his image as the super-straight rocker, and if he wants to realize his dreams, he’ll need to toe the line. Luckily, he’s into women too. Problem solved.

After a decade pretending to be his ex’s roommate, pediatrician Hunter Wyatt is done hiding. He might not know how to date in the Grindr world, how to make friends in a strange city, or whether his new job in Toronto is a mistake. But he does know that no one is worth the closet. Not even the world’s sexiest rock star.

As Jesse’s charity work at Hunter’s hospital brings the two closer together, a bromance develops. Soon, Hunter is all Jesse can think about. But when it comes down to a choice between Hunter and his career, he’s not sure he’s brave enough to follow his heart.

Re-read via Audiobook! December 2018

The audiobook was a bit of a letdown. It was difficult to tell, who was who, no distinct voices for the characters.

The story is still marvelous, i enjoyed it even more. This book still remains my favorite mm romance book.

This was me reading this book.

description

Damn! This book was a breathe of fresh book air.. Once in a while I go through my TBR and pick a book I bought because Amazon had it under LGBT category, that I wasn’t familiar with the author or even read the blurb......“I call it surprise me book” read. And surprised I was. This was a sweet good old-fashioned romance novel. It read like the Indie films that I love to watch.

MC1: Jesse the Rockstar

description

MC2: Hunter the baby Silver fox doctor.

description

Our Mc’s meet on a train from Montreal to Toronto. The two chat for the entire five hour trip, from their chat we learn that Hunter is a Paediatrician, he moved to Toronto for a fresh start and get over his recent breakup. Jesse is a Rockstar who lives up to the rock and roll lifestyle of girls and partying. He is also bisexual but doesn’t tell Hunter. Jesse’s girlfriend breaks-up with him via a text during the train ride. The two bond over that. When they get off the train they say their goodbyes. These two just clicked. And no! it was not the "my dick twitched at the sight of him.. it was more like this guy looks like a cool person let me seat next to him , he might make the 5 hour train ride tolerable." Fast forward two years later, the two meet again when Hunter invites Jesse to the hospital to make a little girl’s dream of meeting her favourite Rockstar come true. From there the two strike up a friendship. And it was a match made in book heaven.

He and Jesse had sort of been friends at first sight, platonically falling for each other that day on the train and then effortlessly picking up their friendship again two years later.

The story is a slow burn, like really slow, the first real kiss happen at around 57% (I say real because the first one was brushed off, the two kiss but decide that to put it under: we were drunk) these two go from strangers on a train to friends to best friends then to lovers, that spun over years. The relationship development was so believable that it sucked me in. The MC’s are also lovable.

Hunter’s interactions with the kids at the hospital was amazing to read, and Jesse was not your typical Rockstar, the bad boy player the label made him out to be. He was sweet, caring and I loved how he made it his mission to teach the kids how to play guitar. So damn! Sweet.

Jesse wasn’t really into cover songs. He’d never recorded any. He’d tried working a few into the band’s live shows over the years—interpretations of songs by his idols, like Lennon and Hendrix and Prince.
But if he was going to play a cover song, never in a million years would it be one of Katy Perry’s.
Except . . . never say never.
“Pick up the pace, girls!” he called as his pupils started to drag. They needed a drummer to really keep them tight. He filed that problem away to solve later as he said, “Okay, here comes the big chord change, Avery. And both of you, keep those vocals energetic! You’re supposed to be roaring, right? Remember, you’re fierce!”

The little things, like just hanging out at the cabin, Jesse introducing Hunter to the band member, Hunter helping Jesse pick out appropriate outfit to wear to the Juno awards, they were like normal things that friends would do and I really enjoyed reading them. And Jesse wrote a freaking song for Hunter...

description

The first kiss, was your typical first kiss.. not perfect, not sloppy just real and hot..

Jesse was kissing him.
Jesse Jamison. Rock star. Famous person. Functional best friend. A straight man.
Or at least a man everyone—Hunter included—assumed was straight.

description

There are only two sex scenes which were not too detailed or drawn out and to my surprise 😮 i enjoyed that because they were still Hot! Hot!

The Band members were amazing and supportive , Colin, Ash, Rob and Billy, the guy obsessed with bedbug bites.

“Will you look at this weird bump thing?” He jutted his hip out and pointed at something near the bone of his hip.
Hunter blinked.
“Here we go,” said Rob.
“Is this a bedbug bite?”
“Pull your pants up, Billy,” Jesse said, though he knew it was futile.
“He’s obsessed with bedbugs,” said Ash to Hunter. “Thinks every bit of dust is one. Sleeps on the bus instead of hotels when we’re on the road if he doesn’t approve of the hotel’s rating on Bedbugs R Us or some shit.”
“I’m not obsessed,” Billy said haughtily. “I had an infestation in my apartment about five years ago, and it was not an experience I would like to repeat.”
“Pull your pants up, Billy,” Colin growled

He cracked me up all the time he was on page. 😂😂😂

“No, it’s okay,” Hunter said, laughing again. He’d been nervous to meet the band, but he found them, particularly Billy, delightful. “Some couples are like that, I think—one person strictly tops and the other bottoms. Some have preferences but sometimes switch. Some don’t do anal at all.”
“Whaaat?” said Billy. His mouth dropped open. “What’s the point of having a dick if you can’t, like, stick it somewhere?”

The conflict was also so believable, Jesse and Hunter’s reaction was so natural. The aftermath broke my heart. I wanted to punch Jesse but also hug him. My Dr. Baby Silver fox was so heartbroken and Jesse too.

These two guys are complete opposite, I mean a Rockstar and a Paediatrician who would have thought.. but… but..... they fit so perfectly together.

I loved it a lot! What an amazing mm romance novel, I did not want it to end. I am looking forward to reading more mm books from this author.

“Did you ever see that movie Sixteen Candles? My mom was obsessed with it.”
Hunter quirked a smiled. “Yes.”
“At the end, they sat like this, facing each other. He leaned over and kissed her, like you just did me.”
The smile grew. “Yes, and they had a birthday cake between them.”
They both looked down at the condom.
Then, on cue, they both cracked up.
“What do you think they did after she blew out the candles?” Hunter asked.
“Weren’t her parents out of town? Honestly, I think they probably had sex.”

I didn't expect to have this much fun with this story! Sure, I expected to like it well enough but not so much that I couldn't stop listening to this story until I reached the end.

"Infamous" takes us through about four years in total in the characters' lives and though there are a lot of time leaps it still had all the things I crave in a story like that. Learning that a story spans through many years is usually a done deal for me and I read the book immediately. Though, I didn't know about it in this case so it was a nice and highly welcome surprise.

Jesse and Hunter meet on a long train ride and exchange numbers. After that it takes two years and a little fan in the hospital where Hunter works for them to meet again. Through months of visits and dinners they develop a friendship and slowly but steadily their lives start to entwine to the point where they are completely tangled in each other's days.

I was afraid this was going to be an out-for-you story and I never like those - I think everyone should come out when and how they feel ready and comfortable to do it and not as an ultimatum to keep a relationship. It had been going that way but luckily at the last second it changed its course and we got an awesome rock star romance with a HEA.

A thing that bothered me was Hunter's tendency to pick up and leave whenever things got messy in his personal life. Luckily, it was also the reason we avoided the out-for-you trope so I can't be too bothered about it.

"Infamous" turned out to be an amazing slow burn story about an upcoming rocker bad boy and a workaholic baby silver fox doctor who formed an unlikely friendship and managed to turn that into a solid relationship with a bright future.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Michael Fell. He has an amazing voice and did an excellent job with this book. I don't think I need to say anything more about his work because he trully blew me away with his tone. I don't think you'll get what I'm talking about just from the sample of the audio but give it a try anyway. I would have given high praise to the story anyway but Mr. Fell's voice took that to another level.

Highly recommended story - the audiobook version in particular!

Wow!!! Who would have thought that this story would be right up my alley? Not me, that's for sure.

Amazing friends-to-lovers story between Jesse, an into the closet forced rockstar without putting on airs...
.

... and Hunter, the out and proud baby-silver-fox doctor...
Bildergebnis für silver haired man

... all wrapped up in an oh-so-delicious slow burn romance.

I'm so not a fan of public declarations of love, but this time instead of making me cringe, it made me tear up. It was simply perfect!

Speaking of cringe... I listened to the audiobook and even if I loved Michael Fell in #Blur, this was enjoyable, but not his best performance, IMO. I know that it's difficult for a man, but his female and kids voices made me shudder - not the good kind, I'm afraid - and sometimes his voices for Jesse and Hunter were not distinctive enough, so I got a bit confused. Overall it didn't keep me from enjoying the hell out of this book, though.

THIS!! is how you write a slow burn romance. There isn't a single thing I didn't love about Infamous, not a thing. The slow burn teased and captivated me, with nothing romantic happening between them until after halfway through, and I didn't care in the slightest. I was too busy loving every word of their friends to lovers story.

Loved the writing, the pacing, the characters - especially Jesse's growth. Bloody fantastic! Oh and Dr Baby Silver Fox? Absolutely perfect for Jesse.

Loved it!

❝But it all means nothing if I can’t have what I really want. Sometimes, I almost feel like I would trade all of it—just throw it all away—if I could have what I really want.❞
Hunter sucked in a sharp breath. ❝And what do you really want?❞
❝But other times, I think, no. I’m not brave enough,❞ Jesse said, not answering Hunter’s question. ❝Most of the time, actually, if I’m being honest.❞
Hunter asked it again. ❝What do you really want?❞
Jesse turned to look at Hunter. ❝You. I want you.

rockstar romances are my fav and i'm slowly attempting to read each one out there, but in particular this book was rockstar x doctor which is a pairing i didn't know i would love so much. what's unique about this book is that it's a true slow burn of strangers to best friends to lovers done right. i don't normally like books that span over a long time but it felt realistic and it made it that much better when they get together because the payoff is so high. even though it's clearly not platonic in the beginning, they are very much attracted to each other however certain circumstances are keeping them apart, but they spend months getting to know each other and they become each other's person first. in other words, they’re basically dating without saying it 😂 which is one of my fav things to read.

Hunter squeezed him tighter, and it felt so good. Jesse wanted to stand there forever, safe in Hunter’s arms. Screw the tour, screw the label, screw his image, screw everything.
😭😭😭

when jesse's gets a new manager because his previous one let their band go due to jesse's antics, the new manger makes jesse agree to clean up his image and definitely no men (since jesse told his new manager he is bisexual). so he can never be more than friends with hunter. then enter major pining and tension. hunter was in a previous long term relationship but they broke up because his ex-boyfriend kept their relationship hidden for years. so this brings some difficultly to jesse and hunter's relationship bc jesse is not out and has to "be straight" and the last thing hunter wants to do is hide again. and did it ever bring the angst, i actually teared up at a certain part (iykyk) and the book immediately got extra points for making me cry bc i did not expect it to rip my heart out like that. i wanted to punch tf out of jesse, but his groveling definitely made up for it! and when hunter called jesse sweetheart? yeah, i also cried at that. idk why that pet name makes me so weak. 🫠

i do wish the band dynamics were written better. this is totally a me problem because it's what i seek out in rockstar romances specifically. i'm all for the found family. but jesse was all like "this is my band and i can do what i want" and i wasn't the biggest fan of that. i wish there was a more equal ground between all the members and just in general, they didn't seem to have the best relationships with each other. yes, jesse is the front man and who people immediately think of when the band is mentioned but his attitude and how cocky he was regarding that didn't sit well with me. while it takes a bit, he does go through a lot of character development by the end. i found the book slow at times but overall the romance was swoony, the pining was insane, and the sex scenes were hot. hunter was the star of the show for me, that man deserved the world and i'm glad jesse realized he wanted to be the man worthy of hunter.

what to expect:
🎤 rockstar x doctor
🎤 major pining
🎤 slow burn
🎤 strangers to friends to lovers
🎤 jesse spending 200k on an auction to show his possessiveness towards hunter (yes i'm serious 🤭)
🎤 swoony swoony swoony
🎤 GROVELING
🎤 he writes a song about him 🫠
🎤 grand gestures

Loved this book! I read it so fast I could hardly put it down - although there was one part I got a bit annoyed at Jesse and had to take a break 😂 he was a bit frustrating at times, I almost gave the book four stars because of him, but the ending completely redeemed it.

Also - I cannot get over Billy constantly pulling his pants down and asking Hunter to check his random bites 😂😂😂😂

This book does have one of my pet peeves in it though:

spoilers:

I hate when books end the second the couple gets together. Can we not get one or two chapters of them together?? (Not including the epilogue of course.)

Reread 2023 with my reading buddy Alicia. Still in love with this underrated book. Rock star/pediatrician, friends, pining and beautiful grand swoony gestures. I know it’s not KU but this book really deserves more attention. WAY more attention.

Reread for the 3rd time. Well, browsing for the goodies 😀.. Gosh, I still love this book so much.

I'm really surprised more of my m/m GR friends haven't read this! It was friends to lovers with a perfect slow burn! I like that this book starts with Hunter and Jesse meeting, then gradually becoming friends and then best friends before anything happens between them. Lovely progression. Also, I'm not a big fan of "rocker" or "celebrity" romances, but this didn't have that feel. This was just as much, or more, about Sick Kids Hospital and Hunter's life there.

And another thing ... I don't know if it was just because this was set in another big Canadian city (and really felt like it) but I related so much more to these characters and their world then I normally do in m/m romances.

Re-read time! Still love me a Baby Silver Fox doctor and
his wayward "Bad Boy".

-----------------

Overall book rating: 4.5
Audio Book: Michael Fell: 4
Book Cover: 3.8

I really liked this one. I don’t know, it just worked for me.

It was a slow burn but in a good way and I absolutely loved the MC’s.

Jesse was just enough of an “ashole” to make me want to fight for him and of course, the moment he secretly visited Avery I was sold on him 110%.

These days I’m on the low with “drama” I know, such a sissy girl. But what can I do.

That being said, I felt the “drama” in this story. It was needed, because this could not just turn out to be instant hearts and flowers, and after all Jesse was still Jesse. The guy who really wanted to be a Rock Star.

Problem was, he also really wanted Dr Baby Silver Fox. And who could blame him right? Who wouldn’t want Hunter? Heck I’ll wager I’m not the only one reading this who would stand in line for a chance with the hunky big hearted Doc.

I enjoyed the rest of the band members. I really liked Avery and her abundance of LIFE. The story was really sweet and slow and just overall GOOD.

This book was so sweet and so cute and did all of the things I adore in a rock star romance (hello cheesy grand gestures that made me grin until my cheeks ached). I loved Jesse and Hunter's friendship and how they looked out for and took care of each other. The slow burn between them was perfection and made the declarations feel both earned and believable. There were some typical rom-com choices made that weren't my favorite and I do wish we would have gotten more time with them as a couple, but, regardless, this was a fun and heartwarming book that pulled me out of a Mood™. I could not have picked a better time to dig it out of my deep pile of unread Kindle books.

REREAD OCTOBER 2021
Awwww. Still love these two. This is one of my “go to” faves when I can’t find anything to read.

Reread October 2019
I’ve had a spate of disappointing 2 star books recently so I needed a sure thing to help get me back on track. Love these two. Still want to kick Jesse in the nuts toward the end but he gets his shit together.

Reread December 2018
Well I'm increasing my rating to 4.5 stars because I read this a bit differently the second time around. I still love these two together, love the way their friendship evolves. So, when shit went down I was less ragey about it, and that made the ending all the more sweeter. I'd really love a follow up on these two.

Original review
I stayed up till 2am because I couldn't put this down. I liked the setup. The characters. The tentative friendship that turns into Jesse and Hunter becoming best friends. The slow burn from strangers to friends to both men having underlying feelings was spread over an almost 3 year period and I was totally cheering for them both.

And then something happened. And I had to put this down because

So, I regrouped, and then I picked this up again and was able to enjoy the ending for what it was. Sweet and easy with a nice HEA, but not enough grovelling for my tastes.

This was really a nice read. Glad is wasn't predictable as the blurb could suggest.
Jesse a real rockstar meet the real nice pediatrician Hunter.... on a train trip.
They talked and talked and Jesse gives his number.

Two years later Hunter calls Jesse for a favor... he has a very ill little patient who is a big fan of Jesse. The next day Jesse is at the hospital.
There blooms a friendship between Jesse and Hunter.. a deep friendship

You'll guess it yess Jesse can't give in to his feelings but he can't hold back to kiss Hunter.
Surprisingly their friendship stays strong....until they both can't hold back anymore.

And there is the moment of truth...not.... Hunter is deeply hurt and is gone...far away... nowhere to reach...
Jesse has to make up his mind.. and he finally takes a stand.

Around these men is more story, good ones... family, friends/band members, management... fans... patients, work...it's all really put down well.
It wasn't predictable thank god... Solid written story, entertaining and smoothly put down.

Call me impressed!

The first title in this series was very good but Infamous goes even further. Not only does Holiday give us compelling characters, she puts together a great story. It really has it all: friendship, true obstacles, and likeable/relatable main protagonists. I just couldn’t stop reading, totally invested in Jesse and Hunter’s story.

4.5 stars rounded down because still no 1/2 stars here on GR.

First off let me just say...

"THIS ONE TAKES PLACE IN CANADA!!!!!!!" and I didn't even realize this until I got listening to the story...yeah, I know it says 'Toronto' in the blurb but I admit it, I skimmed the blurb and listened to the audible sample and then said 'yes please' I'm not even sure why because on of the MCs is a rock star...not my favorite. I have one series that I love with rock stars in it...just one...that's it and I read a lot so I think that speaks to how much I like rock stars...usually.

'Infamous' is the second book in Jenny Holiday's 'Famous' series and while I'm pretty sure that one of the MCs from book one is connected to Jess Jamison, I truly did not feel lost or like I was missing something at any time while I was listening to this story.

When Jess boards the train...yes that's right, the train...hey, don't laugh those train tickets aren't cheap...anyways, Jess's goal is to get on the train and have a quiet ride home...well, it was until he spots the very handsome, young silver fox sitting alone and before his brain can censure his mouth he strikes up a conversation in which he discovers that his seat mate's name is Hunter Wyatt and he's a Pediatrician who works as a hospitalist (in plain speak he's a doctor who works strictly out of the hospital managing patient care for children who are critically ill...that's right children, Wyatt's a doctor at Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital and yes, it's really a place. They do a lot of amazing work there. Meanwhile Wyatt discovers that Jess is an up and coming...hopeful, wanna' be rock star. Plus before their train arrives at Union Station in Toronto they also discover they have one other thing in common they're both getting out of relationships that didn't work...

Wyatt when he realized that his 'roommate' of 10 years was never going to step out of the closet and make him more than a dirty little secret and Jess while they're on the train to Toronto and his current girlfriend sees the picture of Jess playing tonsil hockey with someone who's not only not her but not 'a' her at all. A few hours and several small bottles of wine later. Jess and Wyatt exchange contact information promising to stay in touch and move on...fast forward...

two years and Karma brings Jess and Wyatt back together and a friendship is born.

So that's the gist of things and really it's only the barest of outlines. Now where do I start in explaining how much I enjoyed this story...well first off let's start with how much I loved the interaction between Jess and Hunter...this one's slow folks, I mean seriously these two men are not rushing to dive under the covers...they're friends. Jess has had his wake-up call...remember the train ride? Yeah, his band was riding the rails and the new management flat out told him...NO MEN! Jess is bi so no problem right...no problem except for a certain young silver fox...but, Wyatt's not a problem he's had his fill of straight guys...so as far as he's concerned Jess is friendship material and that's it because there's no way in hell that anyone's putting Wyatt back in the closet again. No matter how much of a sexy, tattooed, bad-ass rocker they are or seem to be just because they're hiding a kind and gentle heart that's willing to visit a kid with a bad heart and teach her how to play guitar and help her and some other sick kids have their own rock band...or MC a charity fundraiser and then donate $200,000 to said charity and if you want to know how this happened you really need to read the story because...'Oh my god!!! So freakin' sweet.' and that's all I'm saying about that.

Now, just to tease a little more we have the ending...and can I just say the ending on this one was "so freakin' melt my heart good". Yeah, it was a little bit over the top but in all the right ways and don't get me started on the secondary characters...like Jess's band and his sister and his nephew and Avery...the kid in the hospital...seriously they're all so awesome...You know, I really want to go listen to this one, again...oh and I almost forgot this one was narrated by Michael Fell. While Michael Fell isn't exactly a new to me narrator, this is my third audio book narrated by him and he's done a solid job on every one of them...this one had kids in it and if you know me you know how well I do with kids in audio books and folks I have to say Mr. Fell must have done ok because my ears didn't bleed, I wasn't running for the brain bleach, I didn't want to hurl my tablet (yeah, that's right Karen's got a new toy) and nope, no bad experiences so let's chalk up an extra point for this one because kid's voices and me are usually a really bad...like bad as in this book just got tanked and as you can tell by the 4.5 stars that didn't happen here.

So hopefully there will be more from Jess and his band because truthfully, I'm dying to know if Bobby finally gets those bedbugs that he keeps obsessing about.

Audio Version

This was one of my favorite books from last year and when I had a chance to review the audiobook I jumped at it. So glad I did. This was even better second time around and on audio. The narrator does a great job and his Jesse was fantastic. The story made me get all teary eyed a couple times (which I didn't when I read it). When Jesse says “You come here. That’s where you come. You come here.” I was all teary and swoony. I think this is one of my top 5 friends to lovers stories.

****original review here***

I tried this book on a whim and it ended up being one of the best things I've read in a long time. Jesse is an up and coming rock star who gets caught by the tabloids kissing a guy. His agent tells him that if he plans to make it big he needs to push his bisexuality aside and only date women. Jesse decides success is totally worth the sacrifice.

What Jesse doesn't count on is Hunter. The two had met a few years before and Hunter works with critically ill children and has asked Jesse to visit one of them. From there the two men become good friends. At some point Jesse realizes he loves Hunter but he's not sure he can give up his career. Hunter loves Jesse too but he's not willing to go back in the closet for anyone.

I should have hated this book. I can not stand the "coming out for you cuz I love you" trope. I bash it in almost every review I've done w/it as a plot point. (It's such bs imo. Not everyone comes out. It's ok when people choose not to. It feels like the m/m equivalent of the m/f "I'm pregnant & therefore we will live hea") Anyways.......I'm a total hypocrite cuz I ate it up here. I absolutely loved these two and their relationship. It was such a well written friends to lovers story that I was able to put my dislike of that aside. The slow burn here was great. I loved that the author had them take the time to really build a solid friendship and relationship.

This is a totally new author for me and I'm really glad I tried this. It was one of the better written stories in this genre and I can't wait for more from this author. I'm also going to go back and read the first book in this series which is a m/f romance. I highly recommend this story. It's a gem.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book up to 75 percent or so.

Jesse's journey of exploring his bi-sexuality is lovely (lots of firsts!) and Hunter is just a sweet cutie.
The way they meet, them becoming best of friends and then discovering there is more was really nicely done with some good UST. It was obvious where the plot was going, but I was happy with the execution of the theme.

However, the inevitable twist towards the end felt a bit fabricated and Hunter's reaction made me frown in confusion
I also thought that the way their conflict is resolved was way too simple after the dramatic events beforehand.

As for the epilogue - maybe I am in a funny mood at the moment, but it was a teeny bit OTT. But I admit this one is probably on me!
What surprised me was that the book ended at an early 85%, then advertising other books. Hmmm.

All in all though this was a very good read which I would happily recommend.

Review from 2018

I've given this a B+ for narration and an A for content at AudioGals

Rock Star romances really aren’t my bag and that, together with the unappealing front cover of this one, would have been enough to make me pass on Jenny Holiday’s Infamous without a second glance. BUT. One of my fellow AAR reviewers absolutely raved about the book when it came out towards the end of 2017, so when I stumbled across it at Audible, I thought I’d give it a go. And I’m SO glad I did, because it’s wonderful; sweet, sexy and gorgeously romantic, featuring two strongly drawn, attractive principals, a colourful secondary cast and the sort of HEA that is guaranteed to give the listener a serious case of the warm fuzzies and all the feels. Narrator Michael Fell is new-to-me, so I’ll admit to a little trepidation, but I needn’t have worried – he delivers a strong performance that was sufficiently engaging as to enable me to get past the few minor problems.

All Jesse Jamison has ever wanted to do is make music. Well, that and be on the front cover of Rolling Stone – and he and his band, Jesse and the Joyride are steadily making a name for themselves. Unfortunately however, while Jesse is hot, charismatic and extremely talented, he’s also something of a loose cannon, and his latest PR disaster – being photographed kissing someone other than his popular supermodel girlfriend – is the last straw for his manager, who promptly dumps Jesse and the band. Jesse has just boarded the train that will take him home to Toronto from Montréal, where he’s been visiting his sister and his nephew, when he sees the photo online and gets the bad news. He promptly decides to commiserate by consuming as much of the refreshment cart’s alcohol as possible, and invites the attractive man with whom he’s been chatting to join him.

The “baby silver fox” as Jesse mentally dubs him (he might be grey-haired, but can’t be more than thirty-five) is paediatrician Doctor Hunter Wyatt, who works at the Toronto Children’s Hospital. He’s had a bitch of a day, too, having just learned that one of the kids in his care will be unable to get the transplant he so desperately needs. Hunter isn’t averse to drowning his sorrows in the company of a charming, attractive, almost-famous rock star – although he has to keep reminding himself not to crush on the straight guy. Hunter has not long since ended an eight-year relationship with a guy who wanted to keep one foot in the closet; he wouldn’t admit publicly to being gay or to the nature of his relationship with Hunter. As the journey comes to an end, Jesse impulsively gives Hunter his contact details – and goes off to continue his bender.

But he knows he’s got to find the band a new manager and that if they’re to have any chance at the sort of success he’s always dreamed of, he’s going to have to change. He approaches Matty Alvarado, Canada’s most famous artist manager, and suggests a deal. If he’ll agree to take them on, Jesse will be the model client. He’ll sober up, go where he’s told to go, be seen with whomever he’s told to be seen with – and under no circumstances will make it known that he’s bisexual. Matty makes it clear that Jesse Jamison is a “brand” and everything he does has to be on message.

Two years later, and Matty has delivered on his promise to get them signed to a major record label and Jesse and the Joyride is one of the biggest bands around, with two successful albums under its belt and a North American tour coming up. Jesse has held to his side of the bargain, too – no drunken binges, no scandals… for a rock star, he’s squeaky clean. Out of the blue one day, he’s surprised to receive an email from Hunter Wyatt asking if he would consider visiting one of the children in his care – and Jesse is only too pleased to go. It’s the start of something that will change Jesse’s life.

Okay – this is a romance, so I don’t really need to tell you where things are headed, but… *sigh* the journey is beautiful and totally swoonworthy. This is slow burn romance at its finest; Jesse and Hunter are attracted to each other, yes, but it’s subtle and low key with none of that overdone mental lusting that is prevalent in so many romances these days. Jesse and Hunter embark on a genuine and strongly founded friendship, one that grounds Jesse, curbs Hunter’s workaholic tendencies and provides the sort of companionship and emotional closeness neither of them has ever experienced. And in spite of their very disparate professions and lifestyles, the friendship is completely believable. Both are dedicated and hard-working, and quickly they become indispensable to one another; they talk to each other about everything (well, except the one thing Jesse can’t reveal), they come to rely on each other and have each other’s backs in a way that’s just wonderful to see. Both recognise that they have something truly special – but Jesse’s Faustian pact means he can never be more to Hunter than a friend, not if he’s to continue on the career path he’s set out for himself. The roadblocks strewn in the path of true love may be predictable, but fortunately for the listener, Ms. Holiday doesn’t stretch things out unnecessarily and the eventual HEA is immensely satisfying – with quite a few lump-in-throat moments along the way.

Narrator Michael Fell seems to be a relative newcomer to audiobooks, with just fifteen titles to his credit at Audible, but he acquits himself more than creditably here in an engaging, well-paced performance. He differentiates well between the two main characters and between the various secondary characters and bit-parts, and although his female voices aren’t great, they’re not terrible either; fortunately, there are only a handful of female characters in the story and they don’t have a great deal of dialogue. He has a nice line in “teenage squee” – when it comes to portraying Avery, the superfan Jesse visits at Hunter’s request – and the bed-bug obsessed band member, Billy, is a hoot. Most importantly though, Mr. Fell really zeroes in on the emotional heart of the story and imbues his performance with all the tenderness and longing Jesse and Hunter feel for each other.

Infamous proved to be an extremely enjoyable listening experience and is one I recommend wholeheartedly. It’s one of the best romances I’ve listened to in recent months, and I’m sure I’ll be re-visiting it in the not too distant future.

Audiobook update - loved it! Very good narration by Michael Fell, he gets the voices and characters of Hunter and Jesse just right. A few minor word mishaps but overall a great performance. I'd definitely listen to more of his work.

.....................

Though romances starring rock star heroes or heroines aren’t usually on my list of favorites, I may have to make an exception after reading this latest romance by Jenny Holiday. On the strength of my enjoyment of previous stories of hers, in particular the 49th Floor series of romantic comedies, I ended up reading Famous earlier this year. It’s a terrific story about a pop star princess who takes a break from the spotlight by staying with an old acquaintance. While Infamous is indirectly linked to that novel (the main character here is friends with the heroine of that one), it’s a very different story. In Famous, the heroine was trying to escape the spotlight; by contrast, the hero of Infamous is an up and coming rock star seeking it out. Sometimes you start a new book and you know within the first few pages that you’ve found a winner. Infamous is that story.

Jesse Jamison doesn’t discriminate when it comes to hooking up with fans, though the ones with males have been restricted to a few make out sessions. When a paparazzi photographer catches him kissing someone in a dark alley, only Jesse and his manager know the ‘someone’ is a guy, which is not at all in keeping with the image Jesse is supposed to be presenting to his mostly teen girl fans. It just so happens that a stranger on a train, Dr. Hunter Wyatt, is present when Jesse finds out about the existence of the photo. Hunter has just had his own bad news, a result of his work as a pediatrician with kids who require long term care. The two share some simple confidences (though Jesse keeps the gender of the person in the photo a secret) that mark the beginning of their friendship. But it’s one that’s put on hold for the next two years, an exchange of email addresses put aside but not forgotten.

For two years, Jesse has faithfully followed all the dictates of his new manager. No drinking to excess, no public scandals, and above all else, no hint that he’s bisexual. It’s women only, enough to cement his rock star image, until out of the blue, he gets an email from Hunter. One of Hunter’s patients, an eleven-year-old girl with a heart defect has a poster of Jesse and the Joyride on her hospital room wall and, hoping Jesse will remember their meeting, Hunter asks if he will consider a visit to buoy her spirits. Jesse does remember Hunter, and is happy to make the time for the girl. It’s the start of a very rewarding philanthropic relationship between him and the hospital.

Hunter is out as a gay man and has no interest in being hidden out of sight, his last relationship having failed because of his partner’s reluctance to go public. And as far as he knows – as far as Jesse has ever said – Jesse is straight. But meeting each other again rekindles the spark they’d felt at their first meeting and they have something worth nurturing. As Hunter becomes an integral part of Jesse’s life and vice versa, the subtle feelings they are developing for each other become stronger, leading to a more intense and intimate relationship. But things can only go so far before they must come to the crossroads and decide whether or not to make their feelings for each other public. Will Jesse be willing to risk his career for the man he’s come to love?

This story is set in Canada, with Hunter and Jesse initially meeting on a trip between Toronto and Montreal. Jesse has a cabin in a popular cottage area outside of Toronto where he and his band can relax and brainstorm song ideas. The author lives in this area of Canada and is able to showcase the setting authentically (plus, it’s a nice change to have a story set outside the US).

What is interesting about this story is how believable Hunter and Jesse’s friendship is, despite their very different lifestyles. Hunter is a competent, dedicated doctor who sometimes struggles to keep his emotions in check when it comes to his young patients. He’s a workaholic since his last breakup, spending most of his time at the hospital or bringing work home with him to his modest apartment. Jesse has a loud, exuberant and brash personality, and he brings this with him to the hospital, delighting the young patients with whom he quickly develops a rapport. He keeps these visits away from the press, quickly realizing how shallow his lifestyle is when compared to the life and death situations faced by the children.

Hunter and Jesse are opposites, but find they can bounce things off of each other, including Hunter’s desire to find a new partner. Jesse isn’t sure quite how he feels about that (and questions why he feels anything about it at all). Jesse has a sister who is in an abusive relationship and Hunter is an invaluable help to them as they figure out a way for her to get her life in order. Hunter becomes someone Jesse can rely on, someone he can text while away on a tour and can introduce to his bandmates as a friend without suspicion. And even if he refers to Hunter in his mind as ‘Dr. Baby Silver Fox’ on account of Hunter’s prematurely gray hair, he keeps it to himself.

This is a slow burn romance, setting the stage for some steamy scenes once the couple realizes there could be something more there. Jesse is inexperienced with men and in this avenue Hunter can take the lead, which quite enjoys. But he’s wary of becoming the man Jesse will come home to from a tour, but not take as a date in public. The conflict is fairly predictable and is set up from the start, but the fallout and how they deal with it leads to intense scenes (and yes, I cried). The eventual happy ending is immensely satisfying and Infamous is one of the best romances I’ve read this year.

So I've never read Jenny Holiday before, and it seems she's mainly an M/F romance writer, so this may be her first M/M book? Who knows, but if it is was a wonderful M/M debut. I loved this.

This was like...super slow burn but not at the same time. Because Jesse and Hunter actually fall in love fairly quickly, over a few months of friendship, and the book skips over time several times in this book, but nothing happens between them until around the 40ish percent mark? But then Jesse plays it off - a kiss - and Hunter accepts and then it skips seven months ahead of them not having done anything then.

See, Jesse gets signed by this big wig music producer, but before he does that he admits to the dude that he was kissing a guy in a photo taken of him with someone (but you can't see the guy's face in the picture and he had long hair so everyone assumed it was a woman and Jesse lets the public think that) and the producer guy tells him he has to be straight if he signs with him, and Jesse agrees, like an idiot. But of course he did. He met Hunter once on a train and probably didn't think he'd see him again, and he's bisexual, so he can handle just being with women, right?

Obviously, wrong...I mean, even if a bisexual person doesn't fall in love with someone of the same sex, you're still hiding who you are. Even if Jesse had fallen in love with a woman, he'd be hiding part of who he was from her, from the world, and it's just not that easy to hide half of your sexuality.

And of course, in this book, Jesse falls head over heels in love with Hunter, a doctor he meets on a train ride, who he gives his email and phone number to, but they don't contact each other in two years, until Hunter learns that one of his kid patients has a celebrity crush on Jesse and he contacts Jesse to come see her, and from there a deep friendship develops - of course, they're falling in love, but Jesse does nothing about it because of the contract he signed with his label, and continues to play straight with Hunter, so of course Hunter thinks nothing can happen.

But as they spend more and more time together, the more they fall in love. But the bigger Jesse and his band gets, the more in the closet he becomes.

But these two together...the combination of slow-burn-but-not in this was very frustrating, but it was awesome seeing them fall so deeply in love. And to see when they finally give in. These two were amazing together.

But I did give .5 stars off for them not quite communicating how they should have - it wasn't miscommunication, per se, just basically a lack of communication - and how the story had Hunter and Hunter never properly cursed Jesse out for what he did or even made Jesse even have to remotely work for his forgiveness. I mean Jesse does do a grand gesture and but as someone who holds grudges, I just wanted Jesse to have to apologize and work for it more than he had to.

He still does a sweet thing, and he makes up for being an idiot somewhat, but I still didn't forgive Jesse as easily as Hunter did. But hey, that's just me.

These two were still *happy sigh* together. The epilogue was heart-melting worthy and sweet and adorable and everything you could want.

This book is actually pretty long, but it was never boring, it was actually really hard to put this down to sleep. These two together were exciting enough for me to have to see what happened next. For the first half of the book it was "when are they finally give in!" and then the second half was "when is Jesse going come out so they can be together, damn it!" and it was as frustrating as it was wonderful. It was a good kind of frustrating lol.

I loved this book, though, and I felt Jesse and Hunter's love, and it was intense and passionate and sweet. They just had to go through some shit to get there, and they got through it (even though Jesse still should have gotten a dressing down or two more than he did *humph*).

Definitely recommend this. This is my first book from this author, and I very much enjoyed it. Two happily given thumbs up :D

“You come here. That’s where you come. You come here.”

¡Oh, me encantó!

In that instant, it seemed like anything was possible. Like the rules hadn’t merely been suspended; they’d been transformed. Like Jesse and Hunter had been transformed, made into something new and unnameable…

Personajes: Estuvieron bien desarrollados, sobretodo, Jesse y Hunter.

“Thank you. I don’t know what I did to deserve you.”

Romance: En una palabra, adorable. Desde el principio, lo supe. Sabía que me encantaría y no me defraudo. NO insta-love, NO triángulo amoroso.

Quite enjoyed this, with some minor niggles. Good chemistry, agreeable characters, a plot that kept my interest. I didn't like the topic of the pivotal scene towards the end, but the finale it lead to was sort of ok at least.

Jesse the rock star was appealing; with his charisma, his swagger, his hidden private life and also how he realistically prioritised his career as number one in order to achieve the level of success he had. Hunter was pleasantly written too, although at times I wished his inner voice had been a bit more academic and self confident to reflect his line of work as a doctor, and to differentiate it from Jesse's inner voice.

The romance began as a casual friendship, gradually growing into best friends that wants more. One of the best executed parts of the plot was how Hunter's past relationship had shaped who he had become, and how he ended up torn between what he knew was the right thing to do for himself vs. what his foolish heart kept hoping for.

I'm so glad that I took a chance, this is a new to me author, and the first book in the series is a m/f and that wasn't what I was in the mood for, but I just went for it. Thank my lucky stars, this was just the kind of tortured love story I was hoping for. I totally fell for Dr. Silver Fox and Jesse and the Joyride were a pretty hot and entertaining bunch. I will admit I felt a profusion of emotions, from swooning to highly pissed off, I did understood the deep fears that the led to some awful decisions, that in turn had me so angry. Underneath it all both MC were really good people that always seemed to put other before themselves. And let it be said, Jesse won me over with the way he was so wonderful to the kids Hunter was treating. I'm not going to lie, I love a good epilogue and this on was pretty awesome.

I highly recommend.

No rating since I didn't make it very far. This one is not for me even though I really hate bailing on a Buddy Read. :-(

At 30% it's not really working for me.
