NOT YOUR MAMA'S MYSTERIES!BADASS BROADS is an anthology of gripping page-turners—one each from SIX top-rated cozy mystery and female sleuth series, and it just does not get more badass than a vampyre taking down demons and werewolves, a modern-day Delphic Oracle in a race to save the world, “Foxy Brown” with a Ph.D., or even a New Orleans homicide cop doing it by the book … mostly. Six smart, capable, imperfect women, and more than one extraordinary—even “super-natural”— sleuth … all now available in a box set for a KILLER price!
Vol. 1: HOUSE OF BLUES, the FIFTH book in the Edgar Award-winning Skip Langdon mystery series by Julie Smith
Sugar Hebert arrives home from a ten-minute errand to find her husband shot to death and the rest of her family missing—including her daughter Reed, heir apparent to the Hebert restaurant dynasty, and Reed's eleven-month-old daughter.
New Orleans’ favorite six-foot ex-deb badass cop, Detective Skip Langdon, is on the hunt for the murderer. She finds the mob’s involved--and so are family secrets so ugly they’d make Tennessee Williams wince.
Vol. 2: TABLET OF DESTINIES, the SECOND Lisa Emmer Historical Thriller by Rob Swigart
In this action-packed historical thriller, an ancient, extremely dark religion gains terrifying vitality and power, as the pieces of a 3,000-year-old Sumerian jigsaw puzzle fall into place. Current-day Delphic Oracle Lisa Emmer races against an alignment of planets and comets to prevent the fulfillment of a prophecy of demons, a snake goddess, and the birth of a “wondrous child”.
Vol. 3: PARIS A GO-GO, the SECOND Havilah Gaie International Mystery by Tracy Whiting
Elegant Havilah Gaie is a worldly academic female sleuth who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty—a self-described “academic version of Pam Grier’s characters”. Havilah, aka La Belle Américaine, has become a darling of the Parisian media. When a right-wing media personality is fished out of the Seine, two extremist factions start shooting at each other. Both groups try to use her as a pawn in the power struggle. Suddenly she’s a suspect as well as a target.
Vol. 4: LOVE “an engaging, sinister romp” by Adrienne Barbeau, author of the Vampyres of Hollywood series.
Glam movie star Ovsanna Moore is the successful owner of her own Hollywood film studio and the star of 17 blockbuster horror films, plus three, sadly, that went straight to video. She looks pretty great-- especially for a 450-year-old—and though she’s had flings with luminaries from Genghis Khan to Errol Flynn, Beverly Hills detective Peter King’s got what it takes to catch her eye and hold her interest. A cop story with bite…and romance.
Vol. 5: SAMSON’S DEAL, the FIRST wonderfully wry Bay Area Mystery by Shelley Singer
Oakland carpenter Rosie Vicente knows her way around a two-by-four, and she’s known to be handy with one in a fight—a trait much valued by her friend and sometime-partner in crime investigation, Jake Samson. Jake’s been hired by a friend of a friend, a progressive political science professor who’s the primary suspect in his wife’s murder. Jake and Rosie go inside a radical right wing activist group to which the wife is connected. An assortment of garden variety Berkeley kooks and interesting plot twists keep things hopping till the very end.

I really enjoyed House of Blues. I liked Skip. Revealing the killer provided excitement. That story was fun to read. I'm not a big fan of vampire stories. I liked Dracula by Stoker. This story was a magic story where anything that needed to happen happened because of some quality that vampires either control or not. The story set in a future where the USA has fallen apart was disappointing because there was no reason to pay attention. The other stories did not have anything memorable. I liked Skip in House of Blues.
I'd read a couple of these books before and had enjoyed them, so I got the set. Nice to read about women that can take care of business without turning completely butch. Many people forget that when the male pioneers were killing each other off the women were left behind to deal with the reality of staying alive in a harsh environment.
Were wolves, demons, brave police women, Paris and gnomes!!! Exciting, revealing and thrills all the way. Don't forget about the vampyres!!! Great box set of different stories!! 😱
This anthology of books includes a variety of female main characters from many different genres, and I enjoyed them all. I have my favorites, and you will find several yourself from this collection!
