Carol J. Perry is the author of the Witch City Mystery series and the Haunted Haven series, both from Kensington Publishers. The Witch City stories take place in the magical city of Salem, Massachusetts--the "Witch City." Carol was actually born in Salem (on Halloween eve!) and knows the city well. The Haunted Haven books take place in Carol's adopted home state of Florida. As an experienced travel writer for magazines and newspapers, Carol knows her way around the Sunshine State too. The Salem books are based of course on a real city but Haven, Florida is made up of bits and pieces of some of the Sunshine State's charming older towns--bypassed by the theme parks. Readers of the Witch City books have come to know O'Ryan, a most remarkable cat. The new series introduces Finn, a lovable Golden Retriever.
Carol lives in the Tampa Bay area of Florida with her husband Dan.

It Takes a Coven (Witch City Mystery, #6)
by Carol J. Perry
This book was pretty wild! Lots happening and it was exiting. Witches dying, a wedding to plan (not Lee's), crows invaded the town of Salem, an ex-thief is the best man. Loved the excitement!

I still remember the first time I held the Witch City Mystery book in my hand and fell in love with the cover, and everything about the series. I am a huge fan of Carol J. Perry and her Witch City Mysteries. I feel right at home in them. Absolutely love the characters, the setting is perfectly described and the main character Lee is spectacular. This book is very relatable for me, and Lee, as a character is one of my most favorite, I feel like she and I could be great friends. We seem to have so much in common, I feel like if I could get her to switch from coffee to tea we could even be sisters. I series like this doesn't come along often and when you feel like the series is one you could pick up and move into without missing a beat you know you have found a truly wonderful and special book. This book feels like the first one, with all the magic and charm I found to be so outstanding in the first book. This book is the perfect blend of a paranormal cozy and wonderful whodunit! I anxiously await the release of another in this series. This is so well done and a series I treasure. This book is published by Kensington and is book 6, out February 27.

Let's start with the book cover....I am total sucker for the beach, the witches and the deliciously purple colours. What a treat!

I started reading this series shortly after the first book was released and I have been a fan ever since. It Takes a Coven does not disappoint!!!

Several witches in Salem die within a short time span. Is someone specifically going after them or is it just coincidence? Two of them haven't even officially admitted to being witches. Pete, Lee's boyfriend, who is working on the case is not sharing much information with her so Lee and Aunt Ibby doing their own investigation.

I loved that we also got to meet again with several characters that were introduced in the last book.

It Takes a Coven can be read as a stand alone but I think it is a lot more well rounded with knowledge of the previous installments.

I requested this book from NetGalley and am thankful that Kensington and the author provided me with an advance copy.

The six-book of the Witches City series is one of the q in the series. I have read them all and O'Ryan is one of my favorite cats. He is very active in this story. Lee Barrett scrying ability is back and her visions are plentiful. Crows, Cries and more crows are everywhere in Salem, City. The stripped a quince and apple tree bare. No one has an answer why the crows have arrived in numbers. Three cats set on the fence near Lee's home. The witches in Salem are dying, Is someone killing them Lee has accepted a job as an intern investigate reporter for the local TV. A couple of students at the last class Lee taught are getting married and she promised the bride that she would be the maid of honor. Pete is exceptionally good at keeping police business from Lee and their romance continues. Will Lee find the answer to her visions before another death? The answer will shock you!
Recipes are included. I highly recommend this book and series.

This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series. I read my first Witch City book when it was chosen for one of my book club’s October read. I was instantly hooked. It Takes a Coven is the sixth in the series and does not disappoint! If you haven’t read the others in the series, I highly recommend you do, but this book can absolutely stand on its own. The setting is perfect (Salem, Mass.) and the characters are interesting and colorful. Best of all, the plot is bewitching (pun intended!). There are so many twists and turns and a possible city wide curse which keeps the reader turning the page. I don’t want this series to ever end! I received an advanced reader copy provided to me by the publisher through NetGalley, which did not affect my rating. I have provided an unbiased and honest review.

I've been a big fan of this series since the first book.
I love reading about witches and since I was born in Massachusetts, I love reading about Salem.
This book has everything I look for in a cozy mystery. The protagonist is a strong, likeable character, the secondary characters are all colorful and fun and the story itself kept me reading way past my bedtime.
Lee Barrett is a fun character and I feel like I would know her if I met her.
This story is well written and the plot was intriguing.
Reading about the crows and the two deaths was interesting and was so descriptive that I could picture it in my head.
I was glad to see Aunt Ibby have a bigger appearance in this book, I think she is a strong character that brings out the best in Lee.
I'm excited to see what's in store for Lee and Pete, I think they make a terrific pair.

I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.

If you enjoy a paranormal, witchy cozy, you will love this story. It is the 6th in the series and this one has the most paranormal action of them all. When Lee finds out that Bridget's spell book was not destroyed in the house fire, she gives it to River to take care of. Right about that time, several witch's end up dead, possibly murdered and crows descend upon Salem in droves, stripping trees and scaring the residents. River thinks she has brought a curse to Salem. Lee's scrying abilities are developing quickly and she is now seeing visions everywhere. Are the witches being murdered? How will they get rid of the crows? What are the witches in Lee's visions trying to tell her?

I am enjoying this series. Lee has really come into her own in this one. She is dealing with her visions better and her relationship with Pete is such a stable, loving influence. Lee and River both have paranormal abilities that seem somewhat believable. The witches belong to the Wiccan religion, not the Wizard of Oz type. I enjoy the wonderful friendship between the two of them and how they support each other. Aunt Ibby is also a great character, with her research, listening and reasoning skills she is always there to help Lee solve a mystery. Finally, the animals, O'Ryan the cat and the crows are able to give Lee a lot of clues and also keep her out of trouble several times. The investigation unfolds with clever twists and turns, but no juvenile hocus-pocus. This books has a well-written descriptive style, fun banter, and a clever story. It Takes a Coven can be read as a standalone book. The author provides Lee’s backstory along with details from the previous books in the series. I recommend this one to cozy mystery lovers who enjoy a paranormal twist. The publisher provided me with a copy of this book to read. The opinions expressed are my own.

This novel started as a fairly pedestrian cozy mystery with witchy elements, but as I read on I developed a good deal of affection for the characters and respect for the author.

Lee Barrett is an involuntary scryer: at unpredictable moments she sees visions in mirrors and other shiny objects. She is not herself a witch but lives in Salem, Massachusetts, so she is definitely witch-adjacent. She has a cat who was a familiar to a witch who died in a previous novel in this series; he works with Lee but hasn’t begun to speak to her (I expect he eventually will). When witches start to die in Salem under mysterious circumstances, both Lee and her cop boyfriend start to investigate—in their own very different ways. Lee juggles the mystery with plans for a wedding in which she is to be the maid of honor and a new internship position as a reporter for the local TV station.

So far in the setup, everything seemed very predictable, right down to the endless descriptions of clothes (one star knocked off for that, it annoyed me) and the cop boyfriend who seems a necessary concomitant to all protagonists in cozy witch mysteries. Unlike most such accessories, however, this boyfriend is almost too good to be true: he doesn’t freak out at the intrusion of the supernatural into his life, he doesn’t make his girlfriend feel bad about her visions. I enjoyed their comfortable, mutually supportive relationship and the absence of another man in the picture for the heroine to waver between. She seemed very normal and grounded, and she had a good network of friends plus an aunt in her corner. I do get tired of the predictable conflicts that get dragged on from book to book in similar series! The absence of such elements allowed me to focus on the unfolding of the mystery, which made the book both relaxing and absorbing.

This is book 6 in the series but is the first one I have read. Only a reader who’s really passionate about reading series in order would mind not having read the previous books; some backstory was mentioned but I didn’t feel unable to follow the character or the storyline at all. The plot felt fully self-contained. Perhaps I’d have a deeper sense of the main figures if I’d read the other books, but I didn’t feel left out at all.

The boyfriend sleeps over but not on the page, so I would categorize this novel as clean. I had fun with it and would read another.

“It Takes a Coven” earns 5/5 Magical Mysteries!

I am a “better late than never” fan of Carol J. Perry’s “It Takes a Coven,” the seventh book in her Witch City Mystery. My fascination with the title font, book cover illustration, and setting of Salem, Massachusetts, got me to open up the book, but it was the well-written descriptive style, fun banter, clever story, and fascinating characters that have made me a fan. There were enough references to background and character connections to keep me engaged, and Lee Barrett and her cat O’Ryan are marvelous. Several mysterious deaths have residents of Salem, Mass, on edge. Is it a curse? Something worse? The investigation unfolds with clever twists and turns, but no juvenile hocus-pocus. I love magic and magical creatures woven into my cozy, but newbies should not shy away…it is very entertaining! You can definitely start here, but you'll be find yourself compelled to go back and read the rest of the series.

It Takes a Coven by Carol J. Perry is the sixth A Witch City Mystery novel. Lee Barrett is finish up the semester at Tabitha Trumball Academy for the Arts where she teaches TV Production and investigative reporting. Lee has agreed to be maid of honor for Shannon Dumas in her upcoming nuptials to Dakota Berman and imagines a relaxing summer with cake tastings and getting fitted for her dress. Then she is offered the opportunity of an internship (in other words an unpaid position) at WICH-TV as an investigative reporter. This gives Lee a chance to look into the recent deaths of witches and the crows that have descended upon the city. The crows have stripped all the apple and quince trees of their fruit. River North is afraid that she has caused these incidents to occur. When another witch is shot at, Lee dives into her investigation. Lee has the aid of her scrying ability, O’Ryan (her cat), Pete Mondello (her boyfriend and local detective), and a crow named Poe. It seems, though, the cause for the abundance of crows by have a more sinister, supernatural explanation. Lee must work in her sleuthing between her numerous maid-of-honor duties (isn’t that what the wedding planner is for). Will Lee get a fix on the killer before he strikes again?

It Takes a Coven can be read as a standalone book. The author provides Lee’s backstory along with details from the previous books in the series. The story contains good writing, but I found the pace to be a too slow in the first half of the book. It does pick up considerably later in the novel. I did feel there was a significant amount of repetition (it gets tiresome). Lee’s car was mentioned sixteen times (her corvette). I was happy to see more paranormal elements in It Takes a Coven (finally). It also seems that Lee is starting to accept her ability (about time). The characters are well-developed and established. There are a couple of quirky characters like River North (though she can be a little over-the-top at times). It was great that Aunt Ibby had a bigger role in this story. She is my favorite character, and I hope she continues to have a prominent role in future books. The setting of Salem, Massachusetts is a delight (I have always wanted to visit). I appreciate the author’s descriptions of the area and landmarks. There was not enough focus on the murder of the witches (of course, there is a quite a bit jammed into this one book). I would have liked more active investigating and action. Two pieces of information provided me the identity of the culprit. The paranormal element behind the crows was more complicated (I do not want to say too much and spoil it for readers) and overshadowed the witch killings. I did feel that the author tried to put too much into one book. The wedding, crows, the murders, Lee’s new job, a talking crow, a funeral, cooking, scrying, eating, romance and so much more. All the loose ends are wrapped up at the end of It Takes a Coven and there was a good epilogue. There is a preview of Bells, Spells and Murder included. It Takes a Coven is a lively book that will bewitch readers.

It Takes a Coven is the 6th book in the Witch City series which takes place in Salem Massachusetts.
I feel a reader should start with book one to follow along with Lee Barrett with her career and life with her Aunt Ibby. The first book was my favorite where Lee fills in as a TV call in psychic. However, Lee says that is her least favorite position in her career. She was not a psychic but was filling in for a deceased psychic.

This book has witches dying. Are they being murdered? Why do 20,000 to 30.000 crows arrive in Salem? Some quince and apples trees are stripped. There are funerals, a wedding and a new job or career opportunity for Lee. To top it all off, O'Ryan her cat, plays a character through out the book and is not just a cat image on the cover to draw readers in. There is so much more. I like the idea that Lee is returning to the TV studio where she started as a psychic. I am looking forward to the next book.

It Takes A Coven, the latest book in one of my favorite cozy series, Witch City Mysteries, brings back all our favorite characters Lee, her aunt Ibby, boyfriend, Pete and BFF, River, in another crackling good story. Seems that a number of Salem's witches have died while a murder of crows have descended upon the city. Lee gets involved in investigating while trying to make sense of her latest visions. Maybe a little slow getting started for me, but it was an excellently plotted story and one I didn't want to put down.

Love this addition to the series! Lee is busy, busy in this one. She is maid of honor for a former student and has a new job, but witches are dying in town. Is it murder, a curse or just accidents? Also, it seems the town has been taken over by crows.

Lee has really come into her own in this one. She is dealing with her visions better and her relationship with Pete is such a stable, loving influence. O'Ryan and Aunt Ibby are both great supporting characters. Can't wait to see what is next for the series!

I was given an eARC by the publisher through NetGalley.

This book tied up some previously loose ends, which was nice.

I have started to feel the side-effects of binge-listening to a series by now. Some repetitions take brute force to ignore - like all the copy, paste comments about how Lee would make a really good cop. (Would she though? I'm not sure. Sometimes she doesn't even make a convincing reporter - which is supposed to be her actual occupation after some degree of serious education and all, but oh well...)

I approved of her leaving the very boring teaching job, however, this book didn't have the TV station charm of the first book. Fingers crossed for the future.

A complaint: My absolute favourite pet peeve nickname of all times is "babe". I for some reason cannot stand it. It sounds so unbelievably silly. So - of course - Pete keeps calling Lee "babe" - a.k.a. no matter how much I actually like Pete I have now started to want to slap him every time that word leaves his lips. (That is to say: OFTEN.) #sendhelp

Orion is still the best thing about the series, but I enjoyed Poe the crow as well.

Next book up: Christmas! Woo!

Another great read in the Witch City Mystery series! This time Lee is maid of honor for a former student in a very interesting wedding party that includes a talking crow as ring bearer. Three members of the local Wiccan community have died or been attacked and Lee uses her new position as an investigative journalist to find out what's going on. There's a twist involving the motive for the attacks that makes a nice conclusion.

L love this series and it gets better with each book. 2 witches die, it looks like accidents, but is it, and what has drawn a murder of crows to Salem? Lee and her Aunt Ibby and Detective Pete Mondello and the cat O'Ryan get tangled up in all of this and more. An excellent read.

It Takes a Coven by Carol J. Perry is the 5th book in the Witch City Mystery series, and another great book. I really enjoy this series, and there is always something new in each book to keep you suck in to Lee Barrett's life. Lee is the maid of honor in one of her former students wedding, witches are dying at an alarming rate, and Crows are flying around town, just like in the movie the Birds. Lee's psychic visions are expanding to the point where she doesn't know if she can believe what she is seeing. This book has everything you want in a cozy mystery, plus a little paranormal thrown in. The story kept me intrigued and kept me reading page after page. I am looking forward to reading Lee's next adventure. I strongly recommended this book for cozy book lovers, you won't be disappointed.

Newly hired Investigative TV Reporter Lee Barrett is a friend to Wiccans, aka witches, and when they start dropping dead, her friend, River, is convinced she had something to do with it. That and Lee's own special psychic powers tells her she must get involved. I really enjoy the Witch City Mysteries. They definitely make me want to take a trip over to Salem, MA. This was written this year so I guess I'll have to wait a while for the next one:(

This a is cute cozy series with a touch of magic and a coven of witches that are happy to assist law enforcement in their small town. Lee is happy to help plan a friends wedding but gets distracted when 3 witches die very suddenly. Lots of side stories help along with a talking crow have Lee and boyfriend Pete working hard before another witch dies. I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I love these books! They are so cozy and home-y. I love the characters and they have started to feel like family. Being from Mass, the Salem setting is so familiar. The mysteries aren't super complex but I don't always guess the outcome. Hope she keeps releasing them quickly! I always come back to this series when I just want something I know I'll enjoy and just want to cuddle up and return to the Winter Street house.

**I voluntarily read this ARC**

I found this book to be a little eerier than previous ones. The wedding planning did help offset a little bit of the creepy feeling. The mystery was well written and surprising. The ending was a little bit confusing to me. I really enjoyed the extra paranormal parts added in to the story.

Someone is murdering the witches of Salem.

Swarms of crows are appearing in town, reminiscent of Hitchcock's "The Birds" Lee believes it has something to do with a powerful witch who was hanged 300 years ago.

Lee accepts a temporary summer job at WICH-TV as an unpaid intern investigative reporter.

Shannon and Dakota get married on the beach of her father's property.
