Whew, I started this one yesterday and stayed up well into the morning hours reading I was so hooked! This was such a provocative, thrilling story with characters that I just adored!! Set in the late 1700's, An Improper Wife is the story of Lady Caroline Wilmont, a young woman who, when her betrothed dies, is promised to his younger brother. Facing a loveless marriage, she decides to attend a masque and fulfill her deepest desires before handing her life over to Lord Taran Robertson the next day. Little does she know that Taran himself has the same idea, and a chance meeting has these two soon-to-be-newlyweds discovering just how similar their needs are. Blinded by their night of passion, Caroline is shocked to learn that her secret stallion is none other than her future husband. But a man like Taran wants a woman who is proper for a wife...or doesn't he?
Okay, so the hotness factor for this one was OFF THE CHARTS!!! Taran and Caroline have chemistry like you wouldn't believe, and when they get together it was like the fourth of July and New Year's Eve in New York city combined!!! We're talking, 'fanning myself and cold showers aren't working, toss a bucket of ice over my head!!' SCORCHING hot!! And what made it ten times better was that I actually just LOVED these characters!! Caroline is unforgettable, she's this spunky little spitfire who wants nothing more than a passionate, loving, faithful man as a husband and is bracing herself for none of the above. And don't even get me started on Taran; he's so hot there are no words adequate to describe, and he's got this great banter with Caroline that I couldn't get enough of! They were this amazing combination of sweet, funny, witty, exciting, and of course completely hot together, and I couldn't put this story down!!
The plot Scott created for this story was so entertaining, too, I just loved the historical aspects of the setting that she included. The masquerade ball, the pre-arranged marriage, the antiquated views on women, it all came together to make me feel like I was really back in the 1700's for their romance. It was very well-written with perfect flow from one moment to the next, even with the switching POV (which I always love for romance novels). This was definitely one unforgettable romance, and I HIGHLY recommend it to fans of the genre!!

WOW, I brought this book last night and read till the wee hours of the morning, I just couldn’t put it down. So be prepared for a long night of loving and reading, and lusting with this one.
An Improper wife was drenched in romance and hotness that will make your toes curl, panties bunch and have you eager for Lady Caroline and Viscount Blackhall’s escapes every which way and place they choose.
The chemistry between the pair was like a pair of volcanoes, filled with heat, which not only scorched the pages but wafted steam from every crevice. Smokin, boilin and ready to explode at every touch.
I enjoyed the witty humour put forth, Caroline’s escapades to royally piss of Taran, the hat, the dress, I found myself giggling along the way. I felt the tension and passion between the characters; if it was any hotter I thought I may just combust!
Honestly ………………… you will be sighing, your heart pulsating and your loins tingling. The romance, passion and loving between these pair was just SIIIIIIIIZZZZLIN….
The characters scripted and involved within the story were very much likeable, some of course not, for reasons being behind the traits they carry.
Caroline reminded me of a wild horse not wanting to be tamed. She was strong willed, determined and had a sass about her that every reader will enjoy. She is full of fire and certainly gives Taran a run for his money. ** snickers **
Taran is everything Caroline never thought he would be, he is passionate (( phew )) , sexy as sin, and very protective of his new wife and the lust and passion he feels for her he certainly welcomes. I loved this character –a gentleman , brave, strong and had very strong family values towards his sisters. I had to say I felt kind of jealous that Caroline had such a hot Scottish man with a weapon under that kilt that would yield any woman with sense ** blushes **.
The plot and storyline crafted was certainly engaging. I was unable to put the book down. Tarah has put forth all her descriptions well, giving us a feel for the historical era in which she has written in. Everything was put forth vividly = giving the reader great insight into feelings, surroundings and every aspect she has scripted in this story.
I must say Tarah has put forth well the views of woman and what is expected in the 17th century. I have to say that Caroline was definably an improper wife by these standards, but I’m sure that’s why Made Taran love her so.
A fine Romance with that’s passionate and hot, sex that sizzles and sensuality all wrapped in one. An Improper wife is ideal for all readers whom enjoy this genre, but be prepared for a bit of suspense to have you grasping at your reader.

All I want to know is how a woman dressed for a ball, sneaks out of the ball to run away from her husband on horse back, gets kidnapped from a stranger after he chases her, grabs her off her horse and when the husband finds her and chases after them the man throws her on the ground from the horse. Her husband is so happy he saved her they just had to have sex under the trees. Then they go back to the ball and she goes into the ball room and never needed to go fix herself up from her ordeal she just went through. REALLY????? I like having sex in the books I read, but it also better have a good story too. This had a lot of sex and an awful story.

I loved Caroline! She was by far my favorite character. She sets off to get one night of passion, to discover a stir of feeling, a hint of decadence, a memory to chase away the cold that will surely surround her marriage. So she dons the costume of none other than Aphrodite herself, and sets off in search of pleasure. Sadly, she discovers she is more nervous than naughty and her blue domino companion just isn't sparking anything but boredom. The last straw comes when she spies a friend and decides then and there to call it a night. She sends her companion for some wine and sneaks off to the back to escape him and her friend. She unsuccessful regarding the second and receives a brief scolding. Mentally preparing herself for disappointment, she trudges off to the gardens to make her way home. It is there that she runs into the man that ignites far more than she is prepared to deal with.
Taran is upset by the fact that he is being forced into marriage. He always assumed that he would be able to marry for love, since that emotion was lost on his father and older brother. A close friend talks him into coming to this masque for a night of enjoyment before the wedding. He reluctantly agrees and arrives just in enough time to keep a certain goddess from leaving. For if he has his way, she will be staying with him for more than just a few hours!
So our naughty tale begins by getting lost in a garden maze, watching an erotic display, to end up in a hired coach so they can discover their passion. Taran is blown away by the mixture of innocence and temptress wrapped up in this small package. Caroline is overwhelmed at finally being able to taste passion's kiss and completely loses herself to her dark fantasies. She wishes to burn herself into his memory. They both feel the pull of something more than desire, but are bound by duty to part ways.
This is an intriguing tale that has you laughing and hanging on the edge of your seat. I thought it was an amazing collaboration, and look forward to reading something from these ladies in the future!! You will not be disappointed in the wild and proper Lady who wins her rugged Scottish Lard. It is indeed a book worth reading more than once!

People in this period did not marry for love but for status and convenience. An Improper Wife is one of those reads where you sit back and take a look at a two people who are being forced to marry and they don't know each other but the laws of that time state if a man dies and he has male siblings the oldest one is to marry his wife and raise the family as his own.
When Lady Caroline's husband dies she realizes that she will have to marry his brother. She is not happy about that because she does not want to enter into a loveless marriage and she knows that this is what it is going to be. So the night before her wedding she goes to a Masque dressed as Aphrodite the Goddess of love. At the Masque she is soon bored with being there because she is looking for one man to have a night of passion with and when she does not find him in the Masque she leaves. While walking in the garden she meets a man and her night of passion explodes.
Taran is being forced to marry someone he does not know. He is to wed this woman and he has no say in the matter. So before he is to wed he goes to the Masque looking to have some fun but he gets more than he bargains for. He finds this woman and together they have the night of their lives. And at the end of the night Taran is a changed man.
What will Caroline do? What will Taran do? Will they marry the person they supposed to? Will they have a loveless marriage? Can they find the right person for them? I would read this again in a blink for sure. Loved how much fun I had with it!
On the other hand, it had a couple too many sex scenes that didn't exactly fit the story due to the fact that I felt they were out of context. I have absolutely no other complaints about this title, it was believable, organic, with a great pacing and a lovely ending. I had an amazing experience since it overcame my expectations- a highly enjoyable and comic read (oh, and sexy too)!

This is one sexy historical romance. I mean we start with a passionate night, that ends in a surprising revelation for our heroine. The plot is hilarious at times in a way that only a historical romance could be. I think the improper wife part makes it feel more modern, but with historical elements. I enjoyed Caroline's strong spirit, and how she just went after what she wanted, yet she has very realistic insecurities. Taran is all over the place, but I really grew to liked him as the story went on. Overall, it's a fun jaunt with secrets, villains, and sexy, sexy times.

3.5 well, I believe that the story started smoothly. however,although the scenes were interesting, they were still too random in my opinion. you wouldn't know where this story would lead, unless you reached the last parts of the book. the author should have developed that part. Instead the author created lots of hot scenes between the MCs.
character development? naaah. didn't see (or didn't notice) it. anyway, it wasn't there for me.

Alright if you don't mind the H and h were both willing to have random sex at a masquerade the night before their wedding and planned to continue the liasion after an heir was produced. Plenty of lying and deception.

I enjoyed reading this book. There is plenty of erotic pleasure in this story. It would have been an even better book if there had been more information about the deception, murder and the cover up. I felt bad for the heroine because she was being married off by her uncle for a reason, I still am not sure why. The main storyline is about a woman seeking a rare evening of pleasure before a loveless and heartless marriage. Come to find out the evening of passion was spent with her betrothed. Now the subplot is a little murky. From what I can tell the uncle is guilty of some serious crimes and has done some horribly drastic things to cover it up. What I don't get is how does the heroine fit into the uncle's plan or not fit. There is room for improvement in this story but I did like the romance plot. I would definitely read another book by these authors. I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What The Highlanders Improper Wife lacks in plot and character development more than makes up for in the verra hawt sex, sex, and did I mention, SEX? So if you are looking for an erotica read set to the background of a regency masque where the theme is “Let’s get it on” and a HEA between a reluctant bride and groom that have a lust to love relationship, then this is the story for you.

The setting is Newcastle, England, 1798. Lady Caroline Wilmont is due to marry Taran Robertson, Viscount of Blackhall, the very next day and become Viscountess of Blackhall. But this night she is Aphrodite, attending a Masque for a last chance at feeling any kind of passion before entering her passionless and loveless marriage to Taran. While fleeing to the gardens of the estate, Caroline meets the "kilted god" and he shows her a night of passion she'll never forget. But as the night winds down and it's time to part ways, Caroline recognizes the eyes of the "kilted god" as those of her soon-to-be husband. Now Caroline needs to deceive her husband into believing her to be the proper wife she's expected to be, not the passionate lover her had in Aphrodite at the Masque.
Taran Robertson has not hidden his resentment in being forced to marry is deceased brother's fiancee. During his last night of freedom, he attends a Masque at his friend's urging. The woman he meets in the gardens dressed as Aphrodite is a mix of "innocence and sin, Heaven and sweet Hell," and manages to bring him to his knees. But his Aphrodite has secrets. And as Taran is returning home to Strathmore with his new wife, Aphrodite's secrets hint that his wife may not be as proper as she seems. But who ever said that he wanted a proper wife?
I loved Caroline as the heroine. She's strong, opinionated, and stubborn. She stands up for what she believes in and doesn't back down from confrontation. And at the risk of losing everything, she tries to take her future into her own hands. That's what the night at the Masque is all about.
I was glad that Taran turned out to be the exact opposite of what Caroline thought him to be. I really liked how he would do pretty much anything for his family. And let's not forget that he's a gorgeous Scottish man with a delicious accent and wears a kilt. I mean, there's just something really hot about a man in a kilt. I'm sure you can all agree ;)
I really enjoyed Caroline's antics to get out of the marriage. My favorite was her black mourning clothes at her wedding. That was just too funny and took a lot of guts.
And the mystery surrounding Caroline's family and her father's death add a little something extra to this romance story.
An Improper Wife has it all: action (both in and out of the bed), adventure, and romance. I would read this book again in a heartbeat!

I loved Caroline as the heroine. She's strong, opinionated, and stubborn. She stands up for what she believes in and doesn't back down from confrontation. And at the risk of losing everything, she tries to take her future into her own hands. That's what the night at the Masque is all about.
I was glad that Taran turned out to be the exact opposite of what Caroline thought him to be. I really liked how he would do pretty much anything for his family. And let's not forget that he's a gorgeous Scottish man with a delicious accent and wears a kilt. I mean, there's just something really hot about a man in a kilt. I'm sure you can all agree ;)
I really enjoyed Caroline's antics to get out of the marriage. My favorite was her black mourning clothes at her wedding. That was just too funny and took a lot of guts.
And the mystery surrounding Caroline's family and her father's death add a little something extra to this romance story.
An Improper Wife has it all: action (both in and out of the bed), adventure, and romance. I would read this book again in a heartbeat!

This was a light, fun read. Very steamy, even though the author used some of my least favorite euphemisms for sexy things. The resolution of the big misunderstanding was anticlimactic, and I wish there had been more character development. I liked the hero, but I really wanted to know more about him. I also liked that the focus was on the couple, although there was a side story. It just wasn't very fleshed out, which might annoy some people. I give it 3.5 stars but rounded down to a 3 for excessive use of the word "cream".

I recently read Lord Keeper by Tarah Scott and I was blown away by her imagination, creativity and writing skills. Since then, Ms. Scott has a new fan and I was eager to read more stuff from her! An Improper Wife was (also) one of the best stories I read this year from a new (recently) author to me. Didn't know about/from KyAnn Waters either, but this, didn't stop me from reading this awesome and delicious story!
I love everything in this book, the characters fit their personalities, the scenes were well described (like I was there, standing beside Caroline and enjoying Lord Blackhall), the plot was truly entertaining and I love the mystery around Caroline's family. I was surprise at the end to discover the truth about Caroline's family; I didn't see this one coming!
I liked to read about Lord Blackhall's behaviour when he finds out about Caroline's attending the masque as Aphrodite. Some comic scenes come out of this little misunderstanding and give the story an enjoyable reading!

Goodness, more sex than you can shake a stick at! lol. There was also still plenty of story though, not just a series of sex scenes loosely strung together. I don't think the authors were overly concerned with being realistic, not so that it ever got in the way of the story they wanted to tell anyway. The premise for the main plot-progressing secret was a bit weak to start with, and kind of got sillier as it went, but I could shrug that off for the most part. And lots of little instances of inconveniences just being glossed over, circumstances that would, without a doubt, make someone appear extremely disheveled, but somehow no one happens to notice, or a character who goes from sobbing to chatting without ever needing to blow their nose or anything, that sort of thing. It pulls me out of a story, personally, but it might not be as distracting to others. The plot, character development, etc. wasn't terrific, but I was entertained despite its flaws, so I give it 3 stars. I would consider reading something else by these authors in the future.

It's been a while since I have read a romance not based on paranormal and supernatural characters. I love the fact that Lady Caroline sneaks off to attend the masque the night before she is to wed Lord Blackhall. The story has lots of twists and turns which made my eyebrows raise a few time thinking 'Oh yeah?', at other times thinking 'really?'. The hot and steamy loves scenes were well written. The only drawback is that there was so many sex scenes with the same wording that I tended to wanted the to hurry up and move along so I could get back to the plot. Given the time frame the story was written, I'm not quite sure of some of the terminology that is used and even though she is considered "An Improper Wife" would a nineteen year old woman really use that kind of language back in the 1700's? Getting past that, I really did enjoy reading An Improper Wife and look forward to reading more works from these authors. I would give this story 3.5 stars.

This book was amazing and I wish it was a little longer
For the first time I read the summary I said I want to read this and I wasnn't dissapointed when I did.I liked the story and it reminded me of the book Her Husband's Harlot(one of my favorite historical romance novels) in some parts.The book had a little bit of mystery towards the end and a last chapter that was like an epilogue.Caroline isn't like the usual heroines in this kind of book.Hell even in the 21rst century books the heroines aren't like Caroline.Taran is the usual male character though he doesn't freak out when he realises that he is in love which gives him more points.

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed it. I think the only thing keeping me from giving it a 5 star rating was that it ended a little too quickly.
I couldn't put this book down. The story was fast paced, the main characters were lovable, and the chemistry between Caroline and Taran was intense. The love scenes were both tasteful and hot. I was rooting for them from the beginning. Definitely a great romantic read.

I loved this book, it was full of excitement, adventure, romance and tons of passion. The way it was written was perfection. You immediately form and emotional bond to all the characters. The book was not just a love story, it was a crime adventure too. Danger one moment, passion the next. It was pure bliss. Can't say enough amazing stuff about this novel. Tarah Scott has some serious talent!!

This was a surprisingly well written novel. The plot was evolved and characters 3D. The love story between the main pair was delicious. The secondary characters were quite endearing as well...especially the sister. My only complaint was that the novel was not very neatly tied at the end. It needed a good epilogue to deserve the 5 stars in my opinion. Nonetheless a satisfying read.

Very silly, if sexy -- that about sums it up for this book.
I think there might have been some issues with having 2 authors (Scott and Waters). Some of the situations and even personalities didn't always match up. The shifts between romance, action, menace, family drama, etc. jumped around with very little to sustain them.
I like a fun "romp with one's disguised intended" plot, and made myself overlook a lot of the inherent goofiness, which was certainly in abundance here. As others have pointed out, the post-life-threatening situation sex was done a lot here, and didn't help the story-line, really. They could've worked in the sexy bits in other places. I'm all for the idea of adrenaline, "fight or f**k" reactions, but several of the instances were just so, so silly!
I felt generous enough to give a 3-star review, because I'm a sucker for HEA, and the sexy bits were definitely sexy. But compressing a story needs to be done with some finesse, which was lacking here. It felt like I had suddenly become immersed in ADHD -- or the literary equivalent.

Loved this sensual, erotic story! Caroline is set to marry in one day, but decides to live one night for herself. She meets a very sexy man at a masked ball and ends up in some very descriptive sexy scenes in a horse drawn coach. Turns out she realizes afterwards who her dashing suitor really is. Taran is supposed to wed his brothers fiance, since his brothers death a year ago. He meets and seduces a beautiful young woman at the ball, and feels there is a real connection, unfortunately it doesn't prevent the wedding from taking place the next day. I loved the feisty, independent woman that Caroline is! She doesn't allow anyone, including her new husband to run her life. Their sparring back and forth is fun to read. Definitely recommend this book if your into erotic historical fiction.

Whew. This book is STEAMY! But it's not just sex scenes. Unlike many steamy books, the plotline is actually really interesting.
Caroline wants one night of passion the night before her wedding to the brother of her late fiancé. Her fiancé died in a horse riding accident and she is being forced to marry the brother. While she accepts her "duty" she understands that as the Viscountess, she will be expected to be a proper wife. She attends a masquerade ball in the hopes of one night of passion before her sex life turns into duty. The man she meets ignites her passion and curiosity and she has a night she will hold in her heart for all the boring nights of her marriage. As they are parting, she realizes he is the man she is supposed to marry the next day. Drama ensues.
