Arrow of Desire
It is a dangerous time with an uncertain the late eighth century in the land now known as Scotland. For hundreds of years, the Picts have fought with the Irish across the sea and in Dal Riata, the Irish colony on the western coast. But now the Picts face a new and barbarous enemy--the Vikings. To save their society, they arrange a political marriage between their best warrior, Drosten mac Gormach, and Mhoire ni Colman, a beautiful Irish princess who has inherited her mother's fort in Dal Riata. But Mhoire, skilled with bow and arrow like the Irish warrior-queens of old, is determined to live alone. In a magical land of tall, glistening waterfalls and mystical standing stones, their story, and their love, unfolds.

I was surprised how much I liked this sweet story. I just liked the characters and the history, that I wish I had gotten a little more of. The story moved along well. There were some great story twists. This was a great romance with lots of good tension. Totally worth the 4 dollar kindle price. This book is an Adult read but clean. Nothing behind the bedroom door. Very well done.

A historical romance set in the eight century tells a story of a political marriage and romance between a Scottish warrior and Irish princess and of course a lot of fighting!

I really wish I would have reviewed this when I first read it. I guess this will be short. I liked this one, I think more than I was expecting. I love the setting, I love anything medieval. I liked Drosten and Mhoire. I did think Mhoire was a little naïve and had a weird double standard. She has lived a very sheltered life, but thinks she can survive on her own, traveling across the countryside and taking up command of her castle (I can't remember the name). Why would anyone there believe she is who she claims? What leader woman would just show up all by herself? That's just one example, I know there were a few other times that she had me rolling my eyes, but aside from those I still liked her. I liked the story and thought it was a fun read. I loved that it was clean, but the romance was still good. Overall, if you like medieval stories you should check this one out.

I read this book about six months ago and therefore I am not going to be able to give as many details as I would like in this review. I bought it very cheaply on Amazon and was drawn in by the subject matter. I had no idea how much I would love it. I do NOT give out five stars lightly. But this book met so many requirements for me that it had to be a five star! I love stories about Ireland, Scotland, and Vikings. This one includes a really sweet, CLEAN, medieval romance (which is not easy to come by) and has relationships that build within it that are strong and believable. I was totally invested in the characters. We are given a strong, brave, beautiful heroine in Mhoire and a good, kind, yet fearless warrior in Drosten. This book is very well written, well researched and completely drew me in! I only hope to see more books in this genre by Elizabeth McBride.

I wished I would of reviewed this book right when I finished it. My brain is full of holes these days.
I am a huge fan of Droston. I really enjoyed the development of Droton's and Mhoire's relationship. It was real and I loved how strong Mhoire was. I think it was close to getting five stars but it was just not quite there. It just wasn't completely swoon worthy.
I still think this might be a book that will bounce around my head now and then.
I meant have to look more into this author!

This is definitely one of my top ten favorite novels of all time. It has fantastic history, passionate romance, exciting adventure--really, what more could you ask for? The main character is easy to identify with--she's like the original (and far better) Merida (from Disney's Brave.) I enjoyed every detail of this marvelous book. I just wish the author had written more fiction; I would have loved to find another gem like this one.

Kindle edition. I would have given this at least 4.5 stars up to about the 80% point. At this point, things got a bit murky for me in terms of my star rating. I disliked how the story kind of devolved into a lot of mushy dialogue. Additionally, there were twists and turns in the story after that but I did not feel like they were fully developed but rather seemed rushed.
