I was born and raised in sunny Saint Petersburg, FL on a steady diet of action movies and fantasy novels. After 9/11, I left a career in photography to join the United States Army. Since then, I have travelled the world and done everything from teaching English in China to driving a forklift. I studied creative writing at Eckerd College and wrote four hard-boiled mysteries for Delight Games before releasing the first Jake Noble book. When not writing, I can be found indoor rock climbing, playing the guitar, and haunting smoke-filled jazz clubs in downtown Saint Pete. I’m currently at work on another Jake Noble thriller. My first book by this author, and the first in the series with Jake Noble.

Jake Noble, Special Forces veteran and ex-CIA operative, is living on his boat, trying to scrape together enough money for his mother’s cancer treatments, scraping by as a marine photographer, a couple of years later, he’s approached by the Company with another mission, When the Agency offers him 150k dollars to track down a missing girl, Noble has no choice but to delve back into the seedy underbelly of Manila’s sex trade, before he knows it, he’s right in the middle of the sex-trafficking trade in the Philippines going against the Triads, kidnappers, other special-ops trained killers and his heart.

With the clock ticking on the girl’s life, Noble will need all of his old skills to survive. Every move he makes unravels another deadly secret and what he finds goes deeper than a random kidnapping…

Noble Man is a fast-paced, all-action page-turner. Combine that with Miller’s good storytelling and smooth character and you have a surefire winner. The action the fast pace the fights, car crashes, and shootouts are not easy scenes to write effectively but Miller pulls them off with ease, and aplomb. If you’re a fan of Jack Reacher, Jason Bourne, Victor The Assassin, The Gray Man, Orphan X and many other action authors and characters you’ll love Jake Noble.

Also a great female lead. Four stars

Great action yarn

Jake Noble is an ex-CIA operative who is called in to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a diplomat. He doesn't have much time. His mission will take him into the underbelly of the sex trade in Manilla and Hong Kong. This is a fun novel to read. It is a classic action/espionage story in the tradition of Ken Follett, Frederick Forsyth, and more. There is plenty of action and intrigue to go around. It is an enjoyable book and I look forward to reading more about our Noble hero.

Well written thriller..

This is the kind of story I enjoy. Jake is heroic and noble, his human flaws are few and predictable; give his feet more clay and he'll feel more human.
The underlying plot, human trafficking, is deplorable and too common, even in our country. I appreciate that the author is highlighting this issue, and seeking solutions.

William Miller's anti-hero Jake Noble's an ex- (after a mission went sideways), CIA agent, cum poor man's James Bond. In Noble Man he's re-recruited by his former bosses, as apparently he's the only man for the job - to go the Philippines and infiltrate and take down the gang responsible for a trafficking operation to the US.
So far, so good, but the plot gets somewhat sidetracked when he agrees to take his girlfriend with him, into what prove to be life-or-death situations (and despite her having no combat or espionage experience), just because her missing sister may be a victim. How will it all end?

Noble Man. William Miller

Jake Noble, former Green Beret, SOG operative , CIA operative. One operation goes bad, when he did nothing wrong, but politicians need a scapegoat. The CIA is full of politicians. He is offered an assignment by his old mentor in the bureau. Hostage rescue an extremely prominent politician's daughter. Nothing is what it appears to be. This is an extremely well written fast paced action thriller. Enjoyed immensely!

I don't read a lot of spy-thrillers but this book was recommended by a friend. From the first chapter I enjoyed every moment. The pacing of the book was great, it kept me entertained, and I wanted to find out what happened to the characters. I also appreciated the way the real-world tragedy of women being sold into sexual slavery was addressed - with empathy and insight. I'll definitely read the next one in the series.

It was worth the read, loved Noble's attitude

I'm not sure how I learned about this book series, although I'm glad I did. It took me a little bit to get into the rhythm of the book, and once I did it was a fast thrill ride. It was hard not to root for Noble and breathe a sigh of relief at the end. Human trafficking is a world wide cancer that needs to end. Noble helps put a dent in it in this story, we all need to get involved and do our part.

High octane thrill ride. Former Special Forces member Noble is tapped by the US Government to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a billionaire philanthropist in the Philippines. The plot thickens as Noble goes deep into the dark world of human trafficking. Could be made into a streaming series - has all the elements of a black ops shoot em up chase and destroy mission.

**A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the paperback book go to the fight against human trafficking.**

Ex-CIA operative Jacob Noble is tasked with the recovery of a diplomat’s daughter believed to be kidnapped into the human trafficking. This off the books op will net him $150,000 is successful. And, he desperately needs the funds to pay for his mother’s cancer treatment. This mission will take him to Manilla where he will find out there is much more going on than a simple abduction.

Millers’ first novel in the Jake Noble Series, introduces us to horrors of the sex slave industry. It is an enlightening story though written in a simplistic manner. For an adult level book as far as content and subject matter it is written on about a 9th-grade level.

The characters are all full of flaws to the point of levity. I can see using humor to take the edge off a tense situation but it was used over and over rather inappropriately. It often took away from the seriousness of the story.

The novel was well edited and the main characters were thoroughly fleshed out. I expected more than a dime-store detective-type book.

3 out of 5 stars.

I am an unusual female. I prefer Sci-fi to Romantic Comedies and Horror to Fantasy and I’d much rather read a Historical Fiction tale to Contemporary Action or Thrillers any day. There are, however, exceptions to every rule. William Miller’s Noble Man (Book 1 of the Noble Man series) is one of those exceptions.

Jake Noble is an ex-CIA agent, a Company man, disavowed when a mission goes sideways and the higher-ups need a fall guy. Scraping by as a marine photographer, a couple of years later, he’s approached by the Company with another mission, one they’re willing to pay a lot of cash to see completed. Noble wants to say no. Yet, just like he’s an EX-agent… he’s also a son with a dying mother. He needs the money. Before he knows it, he’s right in the middle of the sex-trafficking trade in the Philippines going against the Triads, kidnappers, other special-ops trained killers and his heart. It’s awfully hard to fall in love while bullets are whizzing by your head as everyone seems to be trying to kill you…but, somehow, Noble manages.

This is a truly a well written, fast-paced, page turning book; I loved it!

Mr. Miller is a great story-teller. His work is so well devised I could see the action taking place in my imagination. It was like watching a movie on the back of my skull. Gun battles, fight scenes, car chases—these are all very difficult happenings to write for the unskilled author. Mr. Miller does not have that problem. He is incredibly talented and his prose is seamless.

I fell in love with Jake Noble. He is handsome and intelligent, quick-witted and compassionate…brave… and just as hard, cruel and capable of doing whatever it takes to get the job done. I never once questioned his motivations, his decisions or his reasoning.

Jake Noble could very easily be the next Jack Reacher.

Here is my highest praise yet for this book: William Miller managed to bring a very small portion of faith and religion into this story—as a great part of the female lead’s motivation, in fact—without the issue ever becoming a campaign on the character’s part or the author’s. It is mentioned, it is used as a vehicle to get from point A to point B—WITH SKILL AND APLOMB—without beating the reader over the head with it. THIS also takes a great deal of skill. Mr. Miller has it.

Don’t get me wrong. I am a Christian. In fact, I am a Christian author of devotional books. However, even I don’t want to get slammed with religion, or the message, when I’m reading an action thriller. That is not a cause for worry here. My Christian faith (and I’m assuming Mr. Miller’s) is handled adroitly and with dexterity AND with small measure.

Very well done, William Miller.

I usually try to balance both criticism and praise with at least some measure of balance. In other words, I’m not afraid to throw in an honest reproach wherever I find it necessary when reviewing books. However, I can honestly say that I have no real criticism to offer in this case.

Noble Man is a great story and it’s written incredibly well. I liked every minute of it and I would recommend it to anyone.

Once in a while I think I'm in the mood for the escapism of a Lee Child style thriller but, unless they're atypically well-written, I finish them feeling dissatisfied. Unfortunately this book was typical of the genre. If you like that kind of thing then ignore my low rating and go for it. I've read much worse.

I feel compelled to mention the afterword. The author makes some important (noble even) points about human trafficking. He states: "It is the purpose of this book to raise awareness and funds to end slavery". Can't complain about that.

But then he kind of ruins it for me by adding:

"Human trafficking is merely a symptom of a much larger moral cancer in the heart of society. It is a corruption that cannot be cured by organizations, governments, or even heroes like Jake. In this author’s humble opinion, prayer is our best weapon. Keep Praying."

Putting aside how ridiculous that sounds to an atheist (if only it were that simple!) doesn't that kind of let organisations, governments and individuals off the hook?

Jake Noble, the main character in William Miller's first novel in his planned series, Noble Man (Black Pawn Publishing 2015) is a tip-of-the-sword operator in the CIA's Special Operations Group with a reputation for always getting things done. Until things went wrong. To save a group of women brought to the country to be sex slaves, he ends up killing a well-connected diplomat. He had just cause for the death, but that didn't matter. He is disavowed by the CIA and forced to reinvent himself as an underwater photographer. He finds this a gratifying job which he enjoys despite barely making enough money to pay his bills. Four years later, when his mother gets cancer, he can't afford the expensive treatment that might spare her life and accepts an off-the-books offer from his old CIA boss to find the kidnapped daughter of a diplomat in return for a hefty fee. The downside: If he fails, the CIA will deny all knowledge of him. He picks up the woman's business partner as an uninvited assistant and together, they track the kidnappers around the world, each stop more dangerous than the last, each step bringing them closer to either saving the woman or being killed themselves.

The story is well-planned and superbly detailed, making this a highly believable and satisfying plot. Jake Noble is likable with a strong moral compass and the ability to make decisions that can mean life and death. I must say, I am thrilled to have traveled with him. Noble Man is a gem of a find from an author I've never heard of. Well, that's over. I'll be looking for all of his future books. Highly recommended.

WOW. I really like this new action-thriller author. I agree with other readers who have describe Miller's NEW HERO - Jack Noble to me as good as Mitch Rapp, Scot Harvath, and I would add Kyle Achilles (Tim Tigner) and Sean Drummond (Brian Haig). Noble is a disgraced CIA operator who comes back as a contractor to get money to pay for his mother's cancer chemotherapy. (Not sure why she didn't sign up for Obamacare?!) But there is tension and suspense from the very beginning, since Noble takes on the mission to save the daughter of a wealthy Filipino diplomat, a young Filipina who has been kidnapped and happens to be diabetic and needs insulin to prevent going into coma. The book is one of the best FIRST novels I have read in a long time. The book moves very fast, and the combat scenarios are very violent. And the main subject of the novel is a true but tragic one - human sex trafficking, and kidnapping of children of the wealthy. Jack Noble is a flawed hero, but brave, loyal, and very likeable. I will look regularly for BOOK TWO from this author.

Jake Noble was ex-CIA, but currently living on his boat having a nice, quiet life. That was until he was asked to find a young woman who was kidnapped.

There was a problem with Jakes's last mission with the CIA. When he had to kill a diplomat, it made the Company look bad. They put the blame on Jake to save their own image. Years later he's got a new career as a marine photographer but just making ends meet. When the Company approaches him with another mission - to kind the kidnapped daughter of a diplomat, he has to agree because he needed the money for his sick mother. His search took him to the Philippines where he found sex trafficking, drug smuggling, and arms dealers.

This book gives us a look at the very real and sad look at human trafficking around the world. While it was very enlightening, I found it confusing. There were so many villains, that I couldn't keep them straight.

While this book wasn't for me, a lot of other reviewers loved it, so if you like thrillers in an international setting, give this a try.

This is the first book of the series. I did not know if it was something that I would like. But, as I got more into the book I saw that it was exactly that type I like reading. It is a story about an Ex CIA agent the was thrown out because of a mission went wrong. So he is live on a boat in Florida taking underwater pictures to sell to make a living. then he finds out that his mother is running out of treatment options in her cancer treatment. and Jake does not know were he will get the money to pay for more treatments. then he is giving a chance to help a kidnapped girl and earn money for the treatments. it turns out the problem of the kidnapped girl is a lot bigger than he realized.
This book will have you turning page after page to see what happens next. I recommend this book to anyone who likes reading about spy craft.

4 years ago Jake was a top Special Forces and CIA operative. Then he shot a Foreign diplomat who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The fact that the diplomat was knee deep in sex trafficking didn't matter and now he is living on his boat in Florida. His mother is dying of cancer and he is running out of funds to help pay for her treatment. When the Company comes around with a $150,000 job offer he needs to accept it. The Philippine Ambassador's daughter has disappeared and Jake needs to find and rescue her. Bati is a missionary in the Philippines who works with sex trafficking victims. Jake has his work cut out for him as he isn't the only one looking for her and their reasons are not so good. There are more than a few surprises and lots of action! Not everybody is what they seem to be. I will definitely be reading more in this series.

Great Plot! Too many similes.

The plot and character development are excellent. The story is realistic, unpredictable, action-packed, and exciting. My only negative is the author’s overuse of simile. He uses several similes per chapter, and some are so wildly creative that it takes me out of the story. Like, in the middle of a gun fight, he’ll compare something to a sad circus clown or something else completely unrelated to the topic, and it takes me out of the story and just feels like a college freshman’s creative writing assignment that earns more points per use of descriptive language. I did learn a lot of good vocabulary words from this book, but I could have used fewer creative analogies. I still plan to read the other Jake Noble books and I’ll look into other works by William Miller. I recommend this book!

Truly a noble guy in action filled thriller-ish story.

The author filled the story with all the requisite action scenes. A former US covert operator is engaged to save a pretty American girl kidnapped from her job running a Philippine religious shelter for former sex slave girls . But ..wait l, there's more. Her best friend and co-shelter manager, another gorgeous young lady somehow joins the action to free her. Lots of bullets. Clearly, the author knows guns, and how they operate...he writes abundantly about many of 'em. And he's concerned about the international sex trade 'cause that's the central issue. And of course the CIA is helping their former fired agent out...with LOTS of $, why wouldn't they?
If you're an early Vince Flynn fan, this may be a step down. But, he is Noble.

Plot 12a for action thriller authors. Former CIA agent, terminated for political reasons, is hired under contract to that same CIA, for political reasons. Noble accepts the job because he needs the money to cover his mother's cancer treatments. If he fails in the mission, there will not be any backlash to the CIA.

The theme is sex trafficking. While there certainly is enough action (3 stars for that), the author used no imagination while setting up the dialogue between characters. Seems like he wrote the story to fit the lowest common denominator instead of readers who are very experienced in reading the action thriller genre.

Maybe he changed his style in subsequent novels with this character. I'll never know as I am not going to try the next one in the series.

Please do not confuse this series with the L.T. Ryan series with the character of Jack Noble

Bati Ramos, daughter of a Philippine diplomat, has been snatched off the street in broad daylight. She is diabetic and will die without insulin.

Very enjoyable. I liked the action and movement. The two primary characters well developed. Could have perhaps built a couple of the others, a little more, although that would not be critical to the overall storyline.
The other thing that I appreciate in this particular volume is the authors desire to make people more aware of the issue of sex trafficking, which is a much larger problem than I think most people understand. And
Finally, I like what the author says regarding the first thing needed. In addition to awareness of the sex trafficking problem. "Keep on praying."

I certainly recommend this book individually. I will certainly be getting the next title.

Jake Noble is a former CIA operative who was disowned by his organization when an op went sideways. Now he's unemployed but works as a marine photographer to pay the bills. One of his old teammates shows up on his boat and brings him one more job. A mercenary job to rescue the daughter of a diplomat who was kidnapped from the Philippines while working to stop human trafficking.

There aren't many plot twists, but the action is good and the characters are interesting. A solid read. I'd go 3.5 stars if I could.

My two new heroes:

Samantha and.... uh... oh, yeah, that Jake guy also. Jake could just flip off the government that failed to back him up after his last mission went south; however, the money they offered him to rescue the missing girl could pay for his mother's cancer treatment...so... Little did he know that the bad guys - also looking for her - were the best at what they did and Jake's backup team...? Well, zero experience, but she had a good sense of humor and was almost too cute when a guy who needed full concentration.

Nonstop Adrenalin Rush!

Jake Noble, a no nonsense unstoppable ex CIA operative is in a race against time to find and return someone very valuable. Also in the mix is the opportunity to help his mother or at least the chance to do so. Jake has seen a lot in his past but nothing can prepare him for what he us about to experience. Can he come through with so much on the line and so much at stake?

fantastic book with great action and characters!

I was intrigued when reading other reviews and decided to give this a try. I read a wide range of genres, and when reading action novels, I enjoy characters such as Scott Harvath, Mitch Rapp, Bob Lee Swagger, and The Gray Man. Now I’m adding Jake Noble to the top of that list.

The author does a great job with deep characters and a good plot, but also brings in some very positive aspects that many people will appreciate and that are sadly rare. I will definitely read more of Mr. Miller’s work!

I highly recommend.

Noble Man is a solid entry in the action/thriller genre. Jake Noble is a believable tough guy, and the story is well developed. This was the first book I've read from William Miller, and we delighted that the quality of the writing was on par with the more established big names in the genre. Fans of Jack Reacher, John Rain, and John Milton would do well to add Jake Noble to their regular rotation of series thrillers.

Another Noble Victory

This Jake Noble volume presents a side of Noble that I hadn't seen before. Jake has deep love for his mother and Courtly love for another character in the book. The author handles it well.

This well written novel is about human trafficking and the disease as well as corruption that it fosters. I urge all readers of this review and of this volume to keep praying.
