Hearth Motel #2

Knight in Leather

Rate this book
Dasha Maurice isn’t in the market for a serious relationship, much less one with one of the leather-wearing fairies residing at her best friend’s beach motel. Sure, Ethan Gotch is built like a linebacker and tongue-numbingly sexy, but he’s also a smidge intense and has a pesky ex who insists he’s her fated mate. He’s not. He’s Dasha’s. Being the only human in the fairy clique makes Dasha the perfect little soldier to play messenger in the fairy realm. She can’t be detected by raging Queen Rhiannon’s magic, and can help pull more oppressed Sídhe to freedom. The realm is collapsing and the people need a way out. When Ethan’s ex pulls a stunt causing Dasha to get stuck in the realm, she starts to believe she was right keeping her distance from the fairy, but that’s the least of her concerns. If Dasha can’t accept what it means to be the mate of a shapeshifting fairy knight and work a little magic of her own, the two may never make it home alive.

i haven't had the pleasure yet of reading book one but enough is told in book two to not feel left out. the crew is making plans for the the other realm collapses but fate has a way of making herself the prima donna in everybodies life's. from the moment ethan saw dasha he knew she was his mate, but his crew kept them apart. as months pass they finally take pity on him and a meeting is set up. he's warned left right and center not to crowed her, not to overwhelm her and let her decide how fast or slow anything goes. she's new to their world and overwhelmed by a lot of things, that she had bad luck relationship-wise doesn't help either.
as their friends and them work towards some mutual ground, other events around them don't stop from happening.
the meetings feel forced but there are moments when things go smooth. after another set of events things more or less come to a blow and ethan is done with being careful, he's gentle and not threatening, but he can't handle the constant pussyfooting around the fact she's is his mate and refuses all contact or the care he wants to provide as well as protecting her.
but that's not the only troubles that are brewing. there is troubling news from the other realm and dasha volunteers to travel there and back because she's the only one who can get in and out undetected.
this set so much more in motion, moves the story forward at such a high pace it's hard to put the book down. it's a moment where the build gets to the top and the race down and you can't stop until you're at the end /bottom.
really loved this story from end to beginning. was glad to see that dasha grew some balls, eventually!

Marie's Tempting Reads Netgalley ARC Review:

Ok, I have to admit, this was a fun, sassy, sexy read! I loved the characters. Sasha and Ethan are absolutely fabulous together. They have that passion that sparks and is very heated. And there is just the right amount of wit and snark that just has you giggling and fanning yourself. This is definitely a memorable book!

Have I mentioned the sex? Well, it is combustible and sexy as can be. This truly is a fun fantasy book that will leave a reader with a smile. I give this book a SASSY FOUR SHOOTING STARS!!

4.5 stars. Every time I start one of Holley Trent's PNR series, I'm bowled over by the world-building and how interconnected the characters are. So many Easter eggs, plus compulsively readable. I absolutely tore through this one. The fairies were fascinating to me, especially with how matehood works for them. I got a kick out of the marriage license magic! I also loved that we were experiencing everything through Dasha’s eyes. She’s human and this world is still relatively new to her. There’s much she doesn’t understand and that’s well before she finds out Ethan believes she’s his mate.

For fairies, once you figure out you’re mates, it’s basically a done deal but since Dasha has not had the same awareness or understanding, Simone and Heath have been trying to keep Ethan at bay so as not to freak her out. This is even more important because Dasha’s ex was emotionally abusive and did a lot of damage especially as Dasha was trying to break up with him—he’s now in prison and can’t get to her anymore but she’s still recovering from that. Finding out a fairy is keeping an eye on her…well, it’s a little too close to stalking for her comfort. I really loved how Dasha and Ethan’s relationship evolved from there and how respectful he was about her boundaries.

There’s a lot of action in this story and sometimes the relationship falls to the side in favor of plot. But no matter the quick timeline or all that Ethan and Dasha are doing to protect people in the fairy realm, they worked really well together and I loved seeing that play out.

There is a lot of discussion around fertility and how and why fairy families tend to have fewer children. This becomes more relevant because

CW: past emotionally abusive partner, stalking, violence, threat of murder, sick parent, sexist side character, general discussion of fertility and infertility,

Loved Ethan and Dasha
Dasha Maurice is Simone's best friend. The last 6 years Simone has kept her at a distance. Dasha being on the other side of the country and infrequent trips home, haven't helped. A bad relationship behind her, and board with her well paying job she needs a break and some time to think about her future. Dasha heads back to the Hearth Hotel, with some plans to put her talents into helping her Fairy Princess besty, Simone, make her business more profitable.
Learning she has a Fairy mate of her own, in the hot blond Ethan Gotch , is something Dasha doesn't know what to do with. Ethan is trying so hard to make his mate comfortable around him. Dating is a hard concept and something the Sidhe don't do. Ethan is waring Dasha down.
Dasha has found friends in the crew and with the crack down the Queen has made branding them traitors they need a go between and Dasha volunteers.
Meeting Ethan's parents and learning what his father, sister and Ethan can do, is a shock. The immediate acceptance of her into their family is both comforting and unsettling. She wants Ethan and the life he offers, but the past is holding her back.
Dasha has just signed up for more than she bargained for. There is Laurel the half mere/sidhe and all crazy meremaid who thinks Ethan is hers, that needs to be dealt with. An arrogant demigod partner to help her do it. Twins on the way. Executing an escape plan for the sidhe from the collapsing fairy realm with the help of a few gods, under the queen's nose.
loved Dasha and Ethan's story. Love Ethan's family.

This is a book I was able to just fall right into. It's escapist romance at its best. Even better is the HEA for a survivor of emotional abuse. I loved seeing Dasha regain her confidence and trust in relationships, or at least one relationship in particular. Add to that a shapeshifting fairy hero who is out of his depth, Dasha's unwillingness to be a damsel in distress, and all the political tension promised in the previous book in the series, and this might very well wind up being my favourite book of the year!

I really liked Ethan and Dasha together. Even though their partnership is fated, they worked to learn about each other. I also found the over-arching plot advancement really great. The story moved along without being rushed. There's still world-building that I'm trying to wrap my head around, but I eventually figure out what's going on or someone in the story explains it.

I really liked this

Sasha and stagnating favorite so far. I wish he had done more shapeshifting though. It was great that the families were brought into play. I also loved seeing kora again. I hope she gets her own story soon.
Spoilers
I would love a baby shower story. Especially if it starts with Ethan meeting dasha's parents.

(Same review for 2nd & 3rd book in series). I like the Health Motel books best out of these interlinked series, what with all the fairyland drama and the Outer Banks setting. I like how these couples struggle to understand and then accept what they're dealt - with each other (fated mates) and with the whole scenario - and then how they kick ass in dealing with it.

Knight in Leather Holley Trent

Reviewed by SFF Dragon

This terrific, action packed PNR is a real treat. Laugh out loud funny with steam, stalking and HEA. I loved it.

Holley Trent is one of my favourite authors and I love her books. Always well written in the third person and frequently set in places where the paranormal and the human overlap, she never disappoints. Her world building is something really special and her characters, of all types, are completely believable. Loosely related to the Afotama Legacy and Norston Wolves series', 'Knight in Leather' is the terrific second book in the Hearth Motel series and despite not having read the first book yet, there's enough background that I didn't feel like I was missing out, I picked up the story very quickly and it can easily be read as a stand alone. I absolutely loved it, and really didn't want to put it down.

Shapeshifting Fairy Knight Ethan Gotch is one of Heath's crew and they've been living at the Hearth Motel in North Carolina since Heath found his mate, Simone, the cursed owner of the beach resort and BFF of Dasha Maurice. Ethan first met Dasha six months ago when the crew's vagabond existence became a new life, and knew instantly she was his mate, but Dasha lives the other side of the country in San Francisco and his friends have spent that time trying to stop him from getting to her. They even caught him practically on her doorstep once, but Simone knows her friend isn't in a good place right now, and the last thing she wants is another relationship. The previous one nearly destroyed not only her, but her career as an advertising agent. Ethan is pining and getting more irascible as time goes by, but he's got another problem to deal with. He's being stalked by a half-Mer lunatic with the IQ of a salad bar who decided, after a quick coupling at an orgy forty years ago, one of many she had that night, that he was her mate, despite being repeatedly told that he isn't. Then Dasha turns up...

Overflowing with marketing ideas for the loss making Hearth Motel, owned and run by her BFF, and in need of a break from her job, and her life, a working vacation sounds good to her so Dasha makes an unannounced visit to see her friend but her welcome isn't quite what she hoped for. Let the mayhem begin....

I don't want to give any spoilers and ruin this fantastic story for anyone. This is a laugh out loud funny full-length novel packed from cover to cover with action, steam, love, frustration, anger, pain and a happily ever after for Ethan and Dasha. Filled with terrific characters from cryptic Goddesses to sick parents, Elves hiding at the North Pole with the appropriately named King Nick, bats**t crazy merpeople and a demi-god named Colin, together with some hilarious moments so totally true to life I couldn't help but laugh, all combine to make this story a real gem. There's an on-going and action packed background story revolving around the power hungry Fairy Queen, Rhiannon, and her many plots to control everyone and keep them in the collapsing fairy realm. Fighting against her are many others lead by her escapee son, Heath and his crew. Set between the Fairy Realm and the human one, I think I would have gained a lot in terms of lead in to the story by reading 'Prince in Leather' first, and I've actually got two copies of it in different boxed sets, but for various reasons I didn't have time and it didn't detract from my reading pleasure or my understanding and enjoyment of the story in any way. I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review and I absolutely loved it, but I came to the conclusion that, for me at least, it's better to read the books in order, and it was recommended that I should, although each book can easily be read as a stand alone paranormal romance. This is definitely worth more than 5 stars and is on my list of books to rescue if the house was burning down.

Knight In Leather (Hearth Motel #2) Holley Trent
Ethan Gotch may be built like a linebacker and tongue-numbingly sexy, but Dasha Maurice isn’t in the market for a serious relationship in this electrifying paranormal romance.

Readers can’t help but get caught up in this electrifying romance as sparks fly in every direction while Ethan tries to convince Dasha what it means to be the mate of a shapeshifting fairy knight. The chemistry sizzles from every page with vivid intensity and while some of it is scorching passion a lot of it is the way the characters fit together, making things really interesting as Dasha fights the attraction and Ethan tries to understand Dasha’s reasoning which has quite a bit of emotional turmoil flowing from the pages while these strong compelling characters draw you into the fast paced and smooth flowing plot full of suspense, excitement, romance and a bit of humor due to some snarky dialogue and easy comradery between characters.

Not only does this relationship keep readers on the edge of anticipation but Dasha being undetectable by Queen Rhiannon’s magic makes her the perfect messenger to the fairy realm which adds quite a bit of excitement and tension to the story while Ethan’s pesky ex adds a bit of chaos and danger. There is never a dull moment to be found as the Knights continue to thwart Queen Rhiannon and this well written story is full of great details that make it easy for the readers to picture each and every scene.

I have to tell you, that this is the first story that I have read in any of the three connected series but I will be remedying that. There are so many interesting elements in this fascinating world that have sparked my imagination and the characters that I have met so far are a wonderful mix of charm, fun and sexy that I really want to get to know them all, so of course I can’t wait to visit this world again.

This is the second book in the Hearth Motel series, which is intertwined with the Afotama Legacy series, also by Holley Trent. This book is my favorite of the two series so far, ranking up there with her irrepressible Shrew and Company series and both shifter series, Desert Guards and Norseton Wolves.
Book one, Prince in Leather, lays the groundwork for this book, introducing the characters and revealing the overarching storyline. Knight in Leather opens with a surprise visit to the Hearth beach motel by Dasha Maurice, bff of Sidhe Princess Simone, the Hearth's innkeeper. Simone is mated to Prince Heath Horan, leader of a motorcycle riding band of assassins and son of the paranoid and power hungry Sidhe Queen Rhiannon.
Dasha, still reeling from the aftermath of an abusive relationship, has decided to move back home to coastal North Carolina. But unknown to her, one of the crew imprinted on her as his mate during her visit six months earlier. Ethan Gotch is tall, blonde, intense, and a shifter. Simone and Heath have kept Ethan from actively pursuing Dasha while she was in California, afraid he'd send her running. But now that she's at the motel, getting him to take it slowly will be a challenge. Throw in a persistent mermaid hybrid ex acting in league with Rhiannon and her minions against Ethan, and even Dasha will be pressed into service to save not only Ethan from a crazed ex lover, but the realm based Sidhe from collapse and annihilation as Rhiannon's reign crumbles.

Well the Hearth Motel is looking good, but Dasha has an idea to keep potential guests from wanting to check in. And it's not gonna look pretty!

Dasha Maurice swore to never ever let a man into her life to control her again and she is very untrustful of any person of the male faction. She decides to surprise her BFF Simone at the Hearth Motel with a little visit. Until she discovers that she has had a stalker for the past 6 months and he is a fairy! They are too touchy feelly for her and she wants no part of Ethan, although he is all hot as h#@&.

Fairy Ethan Gotch has known for 6 months that Dasha is his mate and he has made a herculian sacrifice and not approached her, but how long will he be able to stay away. He understands that she is human and does not roll like fairy's do, but that makes it no easier. Will he be able to win her over while controlling his baser instincts, especially with such a hard subject to win over?

Lots of things going on in the fairy realm, all the fairy's are ready to migrate to the human side, but have to find a way to trick Rhiannon, so they can do it and Dasha will play a big part in it all.

I truly enjoyed reading this story, you will too.

Received this book from the author for an honest review.

Ms. Trent has struck the right tone with this book balance warrior like dragons living in the human world that hunt rogues and trying to save their family and friends in another realm. The story line reads so smoothly that I could not put the book down until it was done.

Now mix in a human (Dasha) whose best friend (Simone) found out she was a powerful fairy and watch her grapple with learning about the "others" in the world. Little did she know that she would soon be traveling to the other side to help rescue others.

This story is not sugary sweet but sassy, tart and determined. These characters are more than they seem.

Read the book Prince in Leather book 1 of the series Hearth Motel to find out how this all started.

This is the 2nd in the Hearth Motel series although I haven't read any of the other books in the various series that exists in this world I could still follow the story just fine.  The book was good but does come with a warning that it is for adults only and a little to much on the s*x with less focus on a story so it is slow in a lot of places and it took me a long time to even finish the book since I got bored often and would put it down for a while. This review was originally posted on Books In Brogan

Dasha is getting more and more involved in the fairy world since her friend discovered her true origins. She is trying to escape from her job in LA which is no longer fulfilling and her past relationship that still causes her so much pain. Her friend has been keeping a big secret. One of the fairies wants her for his mate. Ethan is sure she is the one for him and he doesn't want to wait any longer for his mate.

I love this series about the Hearth Motel fairies finding their mates. It also ties into other series from the authors. The characters are a lot of fun and the storyline is very interesting. I look forward to the other stories to come. I definitely recommend you read the first book in the series before starting this one.

I received a ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. The first book I read by Ms. Trent the Shrewsbury and company start, so I wanted to read knight in leather. Ethan Gotch has found his mate and she is Dasha Maurice. Ethan is a shapeshifting fairy knight and Dasha is human and she is recovering from a very bad relationship. There were times in the book I wish I had read the previous book to know more about the secondary characters. Any part with Ethan and Dasha was pretty clear The way the author wrote the story made it easy to see it in my mind as if it were a movie

This is a very intriguing read. I have not read anything by this author but was pleasantly surprised. Ethan was without a doubt a man about his business and the woman that was destined to be his mate. Dasha wanted love not commands like her previous relationship. Together they equaled undisputed love even with a deluded Laurel determined to have Ethan. This is a great love story that conquered many trials and tribulations. No one ever minds he complexities of life if they have their soul mate along for the ride.

Less of a fan of this one. I haven't read the other series about the Afotema (too lazy to check the spelling) and because of that, I felt like I was missing out on a lot of information in this book. Everything still made sense, but... it wasn't as cohesive. Because I'm not reading the other series, while I like the Hearth Motel books, I probably won't pick up the third when it's released. I also didn't feel like the romance was the focus of this particular novel, more the other things that were happening in the world.

I might've found the whole Afótama Legacy thing a little confusing since I haven't read any books in that series which makes this Hearth Motel cross over a little confusing but It's doesn't make the story hard to follow though. I definitely like the antics of Heath crew each and everyone of them are freaking hilarious in there own way I can't wait to see what going to happen next in the series. I'll be definitely checking out the Afótama Legacy looks to be and interesting read.

Good God you had to love Ethan, the man was full of surprises, “go ahead. Put your hand in my briefs and see for yourself. Tell me if you’d rather toss me back for someone smaller.” He bent and pointed his knee upward as if to improve her access." I liked Ethan, he had no idea what to do with his human woman and it was entertaining watching him trying to figure it out. I liked this book.

This is the second book in this series, which I read as a stand alone. I didn't have many issues reading this without reading the first in the series, but there were some moments when I didn't really get things referenced from the previous book. Overall I really enjoyed it. It was a fun and sweet book.

There was no real chemistry between the characters... I was so not into the plot.
