Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first 'romance,' a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists - and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.

Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women's college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who'd attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, "I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that."

Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she'd again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.

Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-one books for Harlequin, nine mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.

Kathryn has become known for her powerful characterizations - readers say they feel they know the people in her books - and her heart-wrenching, emotional writing (her favorite comments are that fans cried while reading her books or stayed up late to finish them). In testament to her skill, the author has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.

Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. "My life is very full," she reports, "but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams."

This is my first book by this author and I definitely will be checking out the rest of the series.

Isabelle the sister of the POTUS is getting threatening letters from sources unknown so Nick Marino, a secret service agent on the president protective detail is sent to guard her as they try to discover the person(s) behind the threats.

I really enjoyed this because it was well paced, it was a relatively short book but it never felt rushed. I also love the Marino/dwyer family, I liked the interaction with the brothers and Whitney when they were all together.

Will be reading the next book soon.

I am afraid I dnf'd at 28%. Nobody seemed to have the slightest amount of common sense - the President's sister expected the man sent to 'protect' her to pretend he was the joiner and to stay at a B&B down the road. Come ON folks!! Get real. She's not an idiot! Even worse, the Agent in Charge allowed her to dictate the conditions and thereby put her in even more danger.

I thought this might be a fun read, but I suspected it was all going to pot when on the first page I read:

The Oval Office felt hot all of a sudden, although the cool rain dribbled down outside the open window facing the Rose Garden.

Really? The Oval Office, with its bullet-proof glass and air-conditioning and some of the most anal security in the western world has a window that opens?? And more than that, the Presidential security agents LET it stay open??

Duh.

Not rating at this moment. (goes away muttering about open windows and security and air-conditioning.....)

I enjoy Kathryn Shay as I like the grittier and more realistic look at the Secret Service and this is exactly what you get in this book.

Nick is the agent in charge of the protection for the president’s sister and he takes his job seriously, there is no room for mistakes, for errors, or for second guessing that he acted out of emotion instead of training and experience.

And then he meets Isabelle, and he struggles with being in charge of her protection and wanting more with her, fully cognizant of the fact that pursuing a relationship with her could change the trajectory of his career. He can’t be on the president’s detail and involved with the sister of his protectee, nor can he really move forward after becoming involved with Isabelle, who he meets as a protectee.

So, there is a lot going on, and it complicates their relationship and makes it nearly impossible. The issue is that they both really want to pursue the connection they share and it is harder and harder to maintain the distance required for Nick to do his job.

There is a resolution, obviously as it is a romance with a HEA…but it is one that requires a little give and take on both sides. I liked this, and I believed it. The foundation of the relationship was strong enough that I believed that Nick and Isabelle would make the choices they eventually make.

The pacing was a little slow in the beginning, which made the end of the book move a little quickly, although it seems like this was also necessary as there was a need to build up the info, the backstory, of Nick as an agent and what that entailed.

I do recommend this title. It was a gritty and real-feeling look at the world of a secret service agent, with a little romance thrown in.

I was very disappointed in this book. I kept waiting for a dangerous incident to occur and nothing significant happened.

My biggest complaint and the one that will put this author on my "Do Not Read Again" list is Katheryn's use of God's name as a curse and Jesus' name as an exclamation. She never heard about using God's name in vain apparently. Christian readers find this offensive.

Nick Marino is a secret service agent and is sent to guard the president’s younger sister after she has received some death threats.
The sister, Isabelle Barton is a widow with twin sons, and she doesn’t want a high profile protection unit. So Nick and some other family members are assigned to guard her, while they build a deck and his cousin Whitney acts as summer ‘nanny’ for the boys. But of course, the locals ask questions and eventually Isabelle lies that she’s dating Nick.

Ooh the bodyguard trope plus fake dating.
But… it just doesn’t work for me. Pity, those tropes are two of my faves.

Maybe I could have forgiven everything else if I felt the love…
But I just didn’t feel it.

WHAT AN EXPLOSIVE START to a new, and AWESOME SERIES! I loved every minute of this story, and couldn't turn the pages quickly enough, so I devoured it in a matter of a couple of hours. Nick Marino is the top dog on POTUS's Secret Service detail, but he's temporarily sent to upstate New York to guard the President's sister, Isabelle Barton, he knows there's no room for mistakes or distractions. She's been getting threatening notes, and he needs to reveal who is behind them asap. But what Nick NEVER sees coming, is his strong attraction to her, and finds his hardened heart getting softer the more time he spends with them. Can he keep his distraction at bay in order to uncover where the threats are coming from, in order to keep everyone safe? WOW WOW WOW! While this is only the first book in a new series, I can tell you that my addiction hit swiftly and hard for To Serve and Protect, and Nick is just yumminess personified. And Isabelle is a fighter, and her feistiness kept me rolling, as she knew how to wind Nick like nobody else. Good thing that Nick is sweet, because the tough widow put him through the paces, which made for some perfectly placed humor that kept me laughing loudly. Their attraction is off the chains intense, so the sparks were flying, in between all the suspense of who was coming at her. Which means that I spent a lot of my time dropping f-bombs while sitting on the edge of my seat. Kathryn Shay has a brilliant writing style that I'm obsessed with, and her new series has my addiction beast howling for the next book! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

A fun, unique, romance, featuring the younger sister of the POTUS and a secret service agent. <- I.was.hooked.

The romance between Nick and Isabelle isn't easy. She's a fighter, that's for sure. She's tough and independent, as she has to be as a widow with children. Nick is patient and kind. He's sweet and protective. I couldn't help but cheer for him. Isabelle and Nick have a beautiful, mature romance, dipped in suspense.

I really enjoyed Above and Beyond. The characters were fun and witty. I'm intrigued by this world, and can't wait to read more. I would recommend to the reader looking for a unique storyline, and romance mixed with a bit of suspense.

I loved the plot of this story and the characters of Isabelle, Nick and the extended Marino family. It seems Nick has always had his eye on the ball, going from Secret Service, Presidential Protection Detail to the top job of Director of the Secret Service, not even thinking of having a personal relationship until the President's sister comes under his radar while he's protecting her and her twin boys. He's always wanted the Directorship and can't see himself having Isabelle as well since she doesn't like being in the public eye. Isabelle has always shied away from the limelight, she's left that to her big brother since he's the President. Having been widowed 5 years before when her sons were only babies she's contented herself to bring them up and run a rare books shop in partnership with a good friend. She thought that before she was reacquainted with SAIC Nick Marino, now that someone is after her and her boys because of who here brother is.

I look forward to reading more of this series.

An action\romance that will hold your interest from beginning to end. The head of the Secret Service Presidential Protection Detail is requested, by the President, to temporarily protect his widowed sister after she receives multiple threats. As he takes control a mutual attraction occurs. While attempting to stay true to his mission his heart is lost. The threat is located and neutralized but career decisions must still be made.

I enjoyed this book and have rated it 4 stars. I look forward to reading other books by this author that follow this intriguing family.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Above and Beyond. It was filled with fun and witty characters. I loved the dynamics set up of the two characters families, especially the Marino family -- such a loving and close-knit family. The scenes of the interaction between the family members were some of the highlights of the book for me.

I also loved that the plot was simple and easy to follow. To me the best stuff happened because of the characters -- their fears, their actions, their feelings, etc. I loved that the reader gets both romance and suspense in the same book.

Above and Beyond was well paced. The length of the book never allowed it to get bogged down and at the same time it never felt rushed.

I look forward to going on more adventures with the Marino family in the series.

It was rather like a fairytale, a sweet love story. No magic etc., but the view like Secret Service etc. works wasn't much realistic, I think.

But, I have a nice time. I don't expect of such novels a real, serious vision of the world.

There wasn't much funny, but I was entertained thanks to the alpha hero who fought with the bad guys ;-)

Nonetheless, I admit, I am not planning to read any other Kathryn Shay's book in the near future. I like much, much more Kristan Higgins' (and a few other writer's) contemporary romances.

This is the first time I’m reading anything by Kathryn Shay and it won’t be the last. So, let’s meet Special Agent in Charge Nick Marino who is assigned to the Presidential Protective Detail of the president of the United States, James Monroe Manwaring. The president wants Nick to go to Catasaga to protect his sister, Isabelle who has been getting threatening notes and could be in grave danger. Nick’s not happy about this babysitting assignment and would rather be in the “kill zone.”

When Nick meets Isabelle, the widowed mother of six years old twin boys, Jamie and Ryan, she is cold towards him and appears not to take seriously the danger she and her children are in. Nick is leery of Isabelle’s friends especially the men who are taking an interest in her (the boys’ teacher – Trey Hanover, the local police sergeant – Burke Olsen and the doctorate student – Oliver Wilson).

Nevertheless, while Nick is protecting Isabelle their attraction heats up after Isabelle runs into his room in a panic because she sees someone on the dock. Nick is naked and she couldn’t resist admiring his body and Nick sees her exposed breast under a thin tank top which he couldn’t resist admiring either.

Furthermore, to explain why Nick is there to fix a deck that doesn’t need fixing Isabelle tells her friend Mary Ellen that she and Nick are dating. A good cover story that becomes a reality amidst the danger surrounding them. Thankfully, Nick has help from his brother, Gabe another agent and his cousin, Agent Whitney Dwyer to crack the case.

Overall, this was a quick and intriguing read with realistic dialogue and strong motivation. I enjoyed the storyline, especially finding out who was behind the threatening notes. Also, I enjoyed meeting the Marino family and the bond they all shared. The author did a good job showing the struggles that Nick and Isabelle went through in fighting their love for each other when everyone around them including the president knew how they felt about each other.

A must-read. Two thumbs up!

Rating: 4 stars

Some of my favorite lines:

“So, how far has it gone?” Mary Ellen was leering a bit, too. “Seen him naked yet?”
Yes. “No, of course not. Some easy affection is all.”
“No kiss?”
Isabelle felt the flush again. She’d been dreaming earlier of bouts of kissing with the man. “Um, yeah, some.”
“Do tell. My love life is zilch right now. I want prurient details so I can live vicariously.”

Nick Marino has one objective, the director position with the Secret Service. This has been his goal and he has always moved his career into that path that would lead him there. Being on POTUS detail puts him in a better position towards that goal, but also puts him in a position in which the President could ask him for a favor. The current favor is “protection detail” for the President’s sister and her two sons. Nothing unusual in that, except that Nick is not a babysitter, and the President’s sister is not exactly happy with having an agent or two in her home.

But history has taught Isabelle Barton that danger does lurk around the corner. Having survived being kidnapped and various threats due to her brother’s jobs, she had had to deal with Secret Service details and being followed by the press. But now she has two sons that mean the world to her and she will do what she needs to too make sure they are protected. But having Nick Marino pose as a handyman doesn’t work the way it should and soon he is posing as her suitor. But the danger is not gone, and when it comes knocking, will anyone survive?

This is the first book that I have read by Kathryn Shay and I was impressed. ABOVE AND BEYOND is very well written. I liked the dialogues and interactions between the characters, but I did feel like her kids were not as part of the whole as they could have been. Isabella’s character appears to be a fragile and she tends to compartmentalize people and she doesn’t allow many to get too close. And I felt that Nick did the same thing. Both characters struggled with their emotions to each other through the story. I really enjoyed reading and learning about the rest of the characters in the Marino family. I will definitely buy more of Kathryn Shay’s work, and that is a guarantee. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a good romance with a touch of mystery and danger to it.

This was the first book of Kathryn Shay’s that I’ve read and I really enjoyed it.

It’s that perfect mixture of romance, mystery and suspense.

I really enjoyed that it included the President of the United States as well as the Secret Service. It gives the reader a different perspective.

Written in third person, the story provides all the different points of view from Nick Marino, a secret service agent on the President’s detail, Isabelle Barton, the President’s sister, and even from the President himself, Jim Manwaring.

The President finds himself in a difficult position as his sister is receiving threats because of his position. President Manwaring asks his top Secret Service agent, Nick Marino, to go and personally protect his sister.

Isabelle Barton hates being in the limelight, especially as she is now a single mother to twin boys, and refuses to have a contingency of Secret Service agents protecting her because of it. She capitulates and allows one Secret Service agent to look after her under the ruse that he’s a handyman doing some work on her house. Isabelle knows Nick from meeting him previously but doesn’t expect the attraction that comes with spending so much time with him.

Throughout the book, you meet Nick’s three brothers and his cousin, Whitney Dwyer. They all become involved with protecting Isabelle and her boys and trying to figure out who is threatening her and why.

The plot twists were amazing in this book! However, the only downfall was I felt the ending was really rushed. The first 90% of the book was excellent with plenty of character development throughout all the characters and not just the main ones either. It was just the last part of the book that became really rushed and there wasn’t much explanation to go with it.

Overall though, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to others to read.

Above and Beyond by Kathryn Shay
“Suspense with a side of love, 4 stars”

Nick has one goal and one goal only to become a Director of the Secret Service. The closest thing to a family man he is being close to his parents and siblings, otherwise he doesn’t do relationships. They are a conflict of interest with his job. But when he spends a little time with Isabelle the POTUS sister that may change.
Isabelle is a widow with two twin boys. Her life hasn’t been easy between the death of her husband and always having a target on her back because of her brother. When threatening notes start to show up at home and at her business she knows it’s time to tell her brother. When her Secret Service detail shows up she has a few demands, will those demands work or will they put her and her children’s lives in danger?
Nick and Isabelle have a decent relationship throughout the story. There were times he was the head strong female and he was all alpha. My only issue was I didn’t get as much of the romantic feelings as I wanted out of the two. They were both very affectionate people with others, except each other. I know they were stuck between a rock and a hard place and no one could know, but I just didn’t connect with them when no one was around.
Nick is a diehard family man when it comes to his siblings and parents. His siblings play a huge roll in this story which I thought was fantastic. Isabelle and her sons really did just fall into the sync with the Marino’s. The suspense was spot on where the romance lacked. You could become invested in finding out who was after sweet Isabelle. If you’re looking for a quick suspense with a side of romance then I would go with Above and Beyond.
Plot- 5/5
Characters- 4/5
Heat- 4/5
Writing style- 4/5
Overall- 4/5

I received this book from Bookbub, for free.

I wanted to like it. I just didn't.
It was well written, grammar wise (hence the two stars).

I didn't like the characters (names, actions, behavior, traits, backstories)... just none of it.
So, if this was book number one in series? How is it, that they mention Isabelle & her mother being previously kidnapped? It's just an odd thing to bring up. And oh, because of that... she has bulletproof glass and a safety shelter (which, btw... should've contained storage food/water, bucket, and a fold out couch/cot... not just mat and blankets). Just so weird.

And its like everyone, in the city, are just complete idiots. How the hell, do you not know a government suv? Isabelle sure did surround herself with noisy people, I just couldn't stand. Isabelle behaved like a lonely sheep. Oh, oh... I guess. But then, she gets some from Nick and decides to make him jealous. The kid's teacher, again creepy & noisy. I can't believe she would bring him to D.C. because all of sudden he is planning a trip for his next class. She already determined the his house is well above his paygrade... minding his business and all, discussing it with the dude's mom. Even that was a bit much. Oh, "I want you to meet my mom." Attachment issues, I would say.

Oh yeah, it's all okay. Meet my brother's, my cousins, my mom & papa... gotta keep you safe.
I didn't find any of it believable.
I hated it. All of it. I would not recommend this book.

The blurb recaps the storyline perfectly well, no need to rehash. Generally speaking a sweet and carefree read. The Marinos clan offered a lot of subcharacters who enriched the plot nicely but I could’ve done with a bit more depth or plot elaboration.

The chemistry between Nick and Isabelle was just fine. I appreciated that Nick made the decision to focus on his private life and that it wasn’t Isabelle’s call, as it seems to be the usual way in this genre.

I know that my major point of criticism is definitely my”issue” and has nothing to do with the book. In any case, when reading a suspense romance I usually like to be involved in unravelling the suspense part. I like it when I’m offered a glimpse at the villain early in the book and when the plot is such that I can project myself into the villains sick brain.... does that make any sense? However, the suspense part in this book was elaborated differently. More specifically, there were a lot of candidates as “villains” but finally somebody completely unexpected made the race. Not that there were any loose ends, no! But I would’ve appreciated to participate in finding out who it was, whereas now I was just being fed the villain.... as I said: completely my “thing”.

Generally speaking a nice, sweet and carefree read that offered many hours reading pleasure.

Above and Beyond is the first title in the To Serve and Protect series, and features Isabelle and Nick as the hero and heroine. As with all of Ms Shay's work I found this title to be a heartfelt romance, with a great blend of romance, suspense and intrigue.

Isabelle is a widower and single mother to twin boys. She's quite shy and unassuming, but also very headstrong and craves a peaceful existence, which is incredibly difficult when her brother is the President. Nick is a secret service agent, and is focused on his career and goals, and is put in charge of protection for Isabelle and her two boys. He's a true alpha and expects his dictates to be followed, to the letter.

Their realtionship and story is full of twists and turns and I was enthralled with their story, although I felt the ending was a tad rushed. Their romance is forbidden, and at times I felt like the connection and chemistry between the pair was missing, that I have felt so strongly in previous pairings Ms Shay has created.

Above and Beyond is told from multiple points of view, and has a strong focus on family. I cannot wait to see more of the Marino family and will be eagerly anticipating further books in this series, featuring the siblings.

A great start for a new series that promises to be another winner for Ms Shay. I started reading her books around 1996, and even now she never ceases to amaze me.
This new series is about a family of men and women dedicated to public service and medicine.
This first book is about Nick Martino, a Special Service Agent in charge of guarding the President. The President's sister is getting threatening notes so he sends his best agent, Nick, to protect her and her sons. Isabelle is a widow that lost her husband years ago and has dedicated her life to her twins and her business.
Needless to say, in the midst of the threats, the suspense, family dynamics , and not knowing whom to trust, these two have an attraction that is hard to miss. Even though on the onset , they seemed like night and day. Nick is determined to work up the ladder of the Secret Service, and is willing to give up his chance at love to accomplish it. Or is he?
In addition to the storyline, it was thought provoking . You get a glimpse at the honorable and dedicated men and women who put their lives on the line in order to protect those in their care.
Once again, kudos to the author for her eye opening stories.
I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Kathryn Shay has created another great family for us to fall in love with. I have already fell in love with the Marino family - beginning with Nick Marino's story.Nick, like his three brothers and female cousin, has chosen a life of service. He is a Secret Service Agent on the Presidential Protection Detail and his dream has been to rise to the top of the Secret Service. He has always believed that in order to make his dream a reality, he would have to sacrifice his personal life. Isaeblle Barton is the President's younger sister and once she has begun to get threats, the President sends his best man - Nick - to protect her. Along with his cousin Whitney and brother Gabe, also Secret Service, Nick sets out to protect Isabelle and her twin boys. Isabelle is a young, smart and beautiful widow who has not been in a relationship since her husband passed away 5 years ago. Neither Nick or Isabelle is initially looking for a relationship, but they can't deny the sparks that fly and eventually give in to their desires. Nick doesn’t believe he can protect Isabelle and build a life with her after the threat to her life is gone, so it all so it will take a little intervention to prove to him that he can. I can’t wait to read Gabe’s book next!

"Isabelle felt like a wet noodle. She was totally drained by the constant tension and mistakes she knew she shouldn’t be making."

This was a free download from an author unknown to me. It is not unusual to be offered book #1 free to attract readers unfamiliar with an author's work, and I liked the scenario and was hoping to have found a new series to read. Unfortunately it felt rather lacklustre from the start, and by 44% not much had improved. Our hero is wooden and our heroine is a bit silly for my taste, I prefer stronger sensible female leads. When I looked at the publication dates I saw that they were churned out at the rate of one a month, most of my favourite books are from authors who often publish only one book a year, and the difference is very clear.
I thought about giving it one star as I couldn't be bothered to finish it because I couldn't care less about the characters, but I have read (or part read to be more accurate) far worse so have given it two. Had I been stuck on a long flight or rail journey with nothing else to read I would probably have made it to the end, but I have lots of other books to read so I won't wast my time. My first and last by this author.

When his sister is threatened the President of the United States brings in the best and that being, Nick Marino. Nick along with his brother, Gabe and cousin Whitney all pull together to keep bad guys away from Isabelle Baron and her two sons. Nick doesn’t look forward to babysitting but he takes his job very seriously and does what his asked of him. Along the way Nick has to figure out if a life without Isabelle is worth giving up the job he has always had in his sights.

Kathryn Shay always writes stories with a lot of heart, laughter, tears, bad guys and edge of your seat scenes. I love her style of writing that brings in big families with strength, love and lots of support for each other. They aren’t always perfect but they do stand together. I usually have to read her books very quickly, anxious to find out who the bad guy is and how will the H&H find each other. This was a beautiful story about family, starting over and lots of strength and love. This is a great start to a series and I look forward to finding out the stories behind all these great characters.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Kathryn Shay
Above and Beyond is book one in To Serve and Protect series by Kathryn Shay. Wow, what a story. Shay captured me right at the start and I was hooked. I love the story and the characters, both was well developed. This is a great start to a new series. The Marino family knows how to serve and protect. The President’s sister, Isabelle, who is a widow with twins, is being threatened and Nick Marino , who is the top guy on Secret Service. He would love to have the Directors of Secret job and he has no time for romance. Nick has his hands full with Isabelle .Why would someone want to go after the President’s sister? This is an action filled romance suspense thriller story and will keep you on the edge of your seat. Shay has written a page turner , I could not read fast enough to see what was going to happen next. Shay did not disappoint .
I was given a complimentary copy of this book, buy was not told that i had to give a positive review.

This is the first in Shay's new series, called Serve and Protect. The Marino siblings are all dedicated to the Secret Service, military, and medicine. Nick Marino, the main agent on the President's Protection Detail, is asked for a personal favor by President Manwaring: to protect his sister and her twin sons after some credible threats reach her.

Isabelle is a young widow and is not inclined to accept the restrictions Nick will place on her. The team has also decided to guard her covertly so that the people threatening her will continue and they can be caught, instead of going underground again. Nick is torn because he is more and more attracted to the young mom but he has aimed to become Deputy Director of the Secret Service and the relationship will put an end to that. Isabelle has a lot to say about that, though.

In Shay's hands, the romance and the danger become more and more urgent, and a true conspiracy is uncovered. The siblings make appearances throughout the book, as do the magnificent Marino parents. I look forward to seeing them through the series.

Above and Beyond, the first book in the To Serve & Protect series by Kathryn Shay, is a fantastic, comforting story. Ms. Shay has written well developed characters with real life goals and struggles, as well as angst in the form of the main female character, Isabella, being threatened by unknown persons.

Isabella's brother Jimmy, the president of the U.S. in the book, pulls his best agent off the President Protection Detail to protect his sister & her twin boys. Nick's cover is he's been hired to build shelves at Isabella's rare book store, as well as extend the deck on her home.

This story is well thought out, well laid out by Ms. Shay. Her research into the Secret Service is obvious and adds a wealth of depth to this book. Lastly, I know when I read any book by Kathryn Shay, not only is it going to be enjoyable and hard to put down till I've finished the book, I know I'm going to feel content at the book's end.

I look forward to the rest of the books in the To Serve & Protect series.

Isabella is a strong independent woman and a widower with two twin boys. She has been receiving threatening notes and when her brother, who is the President, finds out protection is arranged.

Nick is a secret service agent who is invested in his career as he would like to be Director of the Secret Service and has no time for relationships or romantic entanglements.

Isabelle will only allow one agent to guard her and her boys as she doesn’t want their lives disrupted and it will appear that the agent is Isabelle is assisting with home repairs. As Nick investigates who is threatening Isabella they become closer however getting involved with her would be career suicide and it could affect his ability to perform his job objectively.

I liked the combination of plot twists and suspense and the characters and I look forward to the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Neither Nick or Isabelle expected a security detail would cause such upheaval in their lives. I thought Nick and Isabelle had great chemistry. I liked both of their characters. I initially thought Isabelle was going to be kind of wimpy, but I loved to see that she had a backbone.

The book was fast paced, and suspenseful. I also enjoyed all of Nick's family having a part in this book. The whole Secret Service aspect was pretty interesting too.

There were a few creepy characters in the book, and there was no real shock that they were creepy. The twist was in how it all came together. There was one person who really seemed to trip the radar and I kept waiting for something to happen. Another surprise.

Overall, it was a really enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and give it a 4.5 star rating. I am looking forward to the other Marino siblings books.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
