A murder, a wedding, and a teenager in danger, all collide in this fast paced mystery set on magical Madrona Island. Cait is in a terrible accident resulting in a temporary loss of memory. She can remember the events leading up to the accident but cannot remember what occurred or how she came to be on a remote part of the island in the middle of the night. When she finds a dead body on the road which is there one minute and the gone the next she decides she must be losing her mind. Cait sets out to piece together the events surrounding the accident while Cody agrees to watch out for a teenager on the run.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Those of us who also read the Seacliff High Mystery series by Ms. Daley will know that Sarah and Alyson left town in a hurry at the end of their last story, in the company of their Witness Protection Program handler, Donovan. Turns out Donovan is an old SEAL friend of Cody's, and he brings his charges to Madrona Island to stay for a few weeks while he determines whether or not the threat to them is a credible one.
Alyson is able to use her ability to communicate with ghosts and animals to help Cait and Cody solve their latest mystery. She also enlists the help of her best friend back in Oregon, Mac, when they need a computer whiz to solve an encryption.
Of course, as in the other books in this series, a mysterious cat shows up to help solve the mystery. Shadow becomes very attached to Alyson, and will apparently be a part of her future adventures.
This story is incredibly well written and kept me reading--I read it all in one morning sitting. I can hardly wait for the next one, Frankencat, which is due to be released in August.
This book is packed. Cait awakens after a crash and escapes to find a body. She keeps walking to try and get help. When they return the body is missing along with Cait's memory of what happened before the crash. Add a teen with a special gift and her mother who are in witness protection and you have a story that will keep you guessing. I loved all the twists and turns of this book and will definitely continue on with this series. There is the addition of some yummy sounding recipes in the back.
Taming of the Tabby is a crossover between two of Kathi Daley’s series (Seacliff High Mystery and Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery). My attention was grabbed by the first sentence, held until the book ended, and it was hard to put this book down. The mystery is well plotted and the characters are affable and well developed. Ms. Daley’s writing style flows smoothly and this fast-paced book is an easy read. Ms. Daley writes clean cozy mysteries with a perfect mix of sweet romance and intriguing mysteries that contain no gratuitous sex, violence, or adult language. I highly recommend all Ms. Daley’s books to anyone who enjoys a well-crafted cozy mystery.
Caitlin ‘Cait’ Hart barely escapes a fiery explosion when she drives her boyfriend, Cody West’s, truck off the road. She’s trying to piece together the events leading up to the accident but the one thing she knows is that she wouldn’t have escaped without the help of a huge black cat named Shadow, who was sent by Tansy, a local intuit, to help her. Cait remembers she attended her sister’s wedding and drove a wedding guest home but has no idea why she ended up on the other side of Madrona Island. Once she makes her way up to the road, she finds a man’s body but when help finally arrives and she leads them to the place where she found him, the body has disappeared. A friend from Cody’s Navy SEAL days, asks him for a favor and Cody and Cait agree to provide shelter for his distant cousin, Sarah Prescott, and her daughter, Alyson, for a few weeks. Cait’s sister, Cassie, and Alyson are both teenagers and quickly become friends. Cody, Cassie, and Alyson join forces with Cait to help her figure out what happened and with the help of her brother, Danny, and Shadow try to solve the mystery surrounding the missing man.
With the help of a mysterious black cat, Cait awakens in time to free herself and escapte from the wreckage of her boyfriend's truck before it explodes and burns! Finding herself on a rarely traveled road on the north side of Madrona Island, she slowly remembers the events just prior to the accident but nothing about the events surrounding the accident. Walking thru the night to get back to the more traveled roads on the island she discovers the body of a man. Continuing her walk the black cat once again saves her life when a speeding car doesn't see her in on the dark roadside. With the driver's phone she is able to contact help but the stranger leaves before anyone else arrives. The rescuers find Cait but can't locate the dead man's body. As Cait's body heals, she struggles to regain all of her memories of the fatal night. As her memories return she and her boyfriend, Cody, find that the dead man was involved in forgotten Russian era secret installations on nearby islands. Cody is also helping an old friend from his Navy Seal days, who is handling a mother and daughter in the Witness Protection Program. With the help of Cait's family they find a safe haven on Madrona Island. This series is highly contagious and once you start reading it you can't stop. The "special" cats and wonderful cast of family and friends really add depth to the twists and turns of the well drawn murder plots.
Taming of the Tabby, the 12th in the Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery series written by Kathi Daley. The beginning of the book finds Caitlin Hart, one of the continuing main characters in this series, involved in a crash with Cody's truck. Suffering a head injury, Caitlin tries to remember what happened while struggling out of the truck. A kitten taps her on the face and leads her away from the truck to the road. Walking down the logging road Caitlin finds a man, dead. She fears she may have hit him and that's why she crashed. Struggling to walk down the road and find help, a car approaches with a man with an accent. He offers his cell phone for Caitlin to call for help. After help arrives and Caitlin is treated, she is restricted and not allowed to be on her feet since she injured her feet walking on the road. While recuperating Caitlin keeps trying to remember what happened and why the man she found on the road looked so familiar. Ms. Daley also crosses over characters from her series Seacliff High series, Alyson and her dog Tucker, who is Alyson's service dog. This book take a slightly different track then previous books which kept me alert for new items in the storyline. I hope we will see more books written with twists like this.
Any Kathi Daley book is automatically on my must buy list. The characters in each of her series feel like old friends and I can not wait to catch up on their lives. This time the most recent book in the Whales and Tales series, featuring Coffee Cats Books and Harthaven Cat sanctuary is a cross-over read from two of my favorite series which appeal to young adults, the Seacliff High Mystery series and the Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery series.
In the last Seacliff High book Alyson and her mother were having to run from danger. They appear on Madrona Island, where Cait and Cassie Hart befriend them and help keep them safe. While there, Alyson's special ability to talk to the deceased helps Cait and boyfriend, Cody, unravel a mystery that has world wide repercussions. What seems to be an adventurous investigation ends up in a life and death struggle.
Another wonderful addition to the cozy mystery line up that will appeal to all ages.
Caitlin finds herself in a car accident after her sister’s wedding but does not remember what happened.. As she frees herself from her boy friend’s truck she finds a dead man body near the vehicle but has no idea who he is. When help finally comes they look for the body but none is found as they think she made it up.
A newspaper article with a photo about a missing man sudden disappearance triggers Cait’s memory as he recognized the missing man as the dead body. Soon she will stumble across the missing body as she finds herself investigating who the mysterious guy.
Thrown in another of Ms. Daley’s character from another a series into the mix. A fast paced read.
This story starts off at a fast pace and continues throughout. Cait awakens to find herself alone and trapped in Cody's truck, which apparently had been involved in a crash. By her side is an adorable black cat, trying to wake her up. As she makes her way away from a vehicle that may explode at any moment, she tries to remember where she is and what she was doing before the accident. This sets her on the road to another mystery (and dead body) that includes a crossover visit from Alyson and her mom from the Seacliff High series. As always, an enjoyable read with twists and turns before a final conclusion. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing this book.
Another great read by Kathi Daley. I really enjoy the crossover books. This one brought us Sarah and Alyson from the Seacliff High Mysteries. They are on the run with their handler Donovan in witness protection and end up on Madrona Island. With Alyson's special gifts she is able to help in solving a murder mystery with Cody and Cait. And of course, a magical cat named Shadow. Can't wait to see the next adventure with all of these characters. I recieved a copy of this book from the author for an honest opinion.
Another awesome tale from the Whales and Tails series -- includes lots of mystery, romance, suspense, and intrigue -- loved the well developed plot and getting to know about the characters. This crossover mystery has Cait and her friends with the help of Alyson (from Seacliff High) solve a murder mystery and develop a deep friendship with other.. If you love mysteries along with romance, this is definitely a story you don't want to miss reading.
Taming of the Tabby by Kathi Daley is book #12 of the Whales and Tails series which is a favorite of mine by this author. I seemed to have missed this one when it was first released but was so glad I had the opportunity read it now.
This was a complex mystery that not only included the usual Madrona Island crew but also Allyson Parker from the Seacliff High mystery series. Ghosts, cats and murder in a well-crafted plot kept me turning the pages until the end.
As always Kathi Daley did not disappoint. Once I started I could not put it down. The story had suspense and romance. This is a great crossover from her two series (Seacliff High Mystery and Whales and Tails Mystery). The twist and turns had me from start to finish and I can't wait to see what happens next!!!
This story is well written and full of mystery and adventure. The story is written to keep the reader guessing what is happening and has a second plot in the first one. I always enjoy reading anything by Kathi Daley!!
Taming of the Tabby is a really fun book, crossing over between two great series, Seacliff High, and Whales and Tails. Ms Daley has a flair for crossovers, introducing the characters from another series seamlessly and delightfully. I loved this book and actually all the books in both series.
A bit different to most of the mysteries in this series, and also a cross-over with her Seacliff High series. This one involved an ex-KGB spy and a deserted island, rather than a straight murder mystery.
“Taming of the Tabby” earns 5+/5 Encrypted Secret Files!
Caitlin is suffering from memory loss and physical trauma from a car accident that also included a thumb drive and missing body. She finds a new report about a missing cybersecurity CEO and discovers the identity of her missing body. While trying to clear up what happened that night, Cody has offered a safe haven to his NavySEAL friend’s so-called cousin and her daughter. Cait is right to feel that their situation is a lot more dire than everyone lets on. Alyson, a soon-to-be senior in high school, is really in witness protection, and for safety, her and her mother had to find a secured place to stay for some quiet time. Well, quiet is a relative term, since Alyson seems keen to help where she can. She has a friend who can help with the encrypted thumb drive, has a sensitivity to Cait’s new cat, and can see ghosts…yes, seeing ghosts can come in handy. But, then there are the secret identities, secret locations, and just plain secrets…all on board for this mystery!
OMG! I am such a big fan of Kathi Daley, and Whales & Tails Cozy Mystery with Tansy’s magical cats is a favorite series. This time in the twelfth book of the series Kathi has out done herself with a delightful twist by adding characters from a new favorite series Seacliff High for another wonderful crossover read. Tying in the recently released “Seacliff High: The Shadow,” Alyson Prescott and her mother were forced to flee their home, and here, Cody, helping out a NavySEAL pal, has agreed to provide them protection. Welcome Alyson, whose special “I see dead people” gift provides additional entertainment to an already very full story. This story is extremely engaging, nail-biting at times, and the characters are well developed with a real family sense. The community of Madrona Island and ‘ins and outs’ of the cat sanctuary play out in the background along with providing tasty, easy-to-follow recipes from Kathi’s Facebook Recipe Group: One-Dish Broiled Shrimp, Tomotoes, & Green Olives; Baked Lasagna; Chuck Wagon Casserole; Sweet and Sour Chicken. You are set for your next book club…and the next, and the next!

Review:
This book grabbed me from the first page and took me along for a tension filled ride. The first chapter had mystery and suspension, wondering what was going to happen to Cait. Once that was resolved there was another mystery waiting in the wings right away.
The characters are well developed and well rounded. Not only did we get to spend more time with Cait and Cody, we also got to spend time with Alyson, a character from another on series of this author, The Seacliff High Mystery series. The author does a very good job of writing a crossover book that is entertaining..
The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book I felt like I was right there, watching all of the action taking place. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read.
I really like the paranormal aspects of this book. Not only do we have Shadow, the mystical cat that has appeared to help Cait solve the mystery, but we also have Alyson, who happens to be able to see ghosts. These two things combined made for a bit more paranormal than usual in this series, which I enjoyed.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. The author continues to write great books for her readers to enjoy.
Taming of the Tabby is the 12th in the Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery series written by Kathi Daley. Taming of the Tabby is a delightful, entertaining book, with a cross over between two top notch cozy mystery series, Seacliff High, and Whales and Tails. Ms. Daley has the talent for seamlessly integrating the characters from two series smoothly with no awkward breaks in the flow of the plot. Caitlin ‘Cait’ Hart loses consciousness during a fiery accident involving Cody’s truck and is awakened by a black cat named Shadow. Cait struggles to remember what happened or where she is. Add to that stumbling across a man’s body only to have it disappear and this story continues at a rapid pace. A friend from Cody’s Navy SEAL days, asks him to provide shelter for his distant cousin, Sarah Prescott, and her daughter, Alyson, for a few weeks. Cait’s sister, Cassie, and Alyson quickly become friends. Cody, Cassie, and Alyson join Cait to help her figure out what happened as try to solve the mystery surrounding the missing man. Alyson has the ability to communicate with ghosts and animals which helps Cait and Cody solve their latest mystery. Together they learn that the dead man was involved in Russian era secret installations on nearby islands with worldwide implications. Unanticipated twists and turns abound to keep the reader guessing. This story combines the best of the Seacliff High Mystery series and the Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery series. If you love cozy mysteries with sweet romance, this is a book you don't want to miss reading.
Not sure I read the same book as everybody else, the book that is getting 5 stars and rave reviews. The book I read was an obvious 'first draft' of Kathi Daley's attempt at a Hardy Boys/Famous Five adventure pretending to be a Whales and Tales story.
I don't know why Kathi churns out a hundred books a month these days, but can we quietly ignore that she published this one, so she can quietly take it back, add the characters we know instead of these stick figures, write a bit of prose instead of just joining her notes together with a bit of punctuation... oh and maybe add an actual plot (with maybe the bonus of it actually making sense).
In what universe does a woman driving alone pick up a stranger next to his broken down car AND then drive him to a run down cabin in the middle of nowhere.
Modern encryption cannot be cracked, not even by a 'lone teenager in their bedroom'™.
In what universe (except maybe for the one written by Enid Blyton) does a small group of people, including two teenage girls, a couple of dogs, a cat and an invalid, go for a jolly jaunt to an isolated island to find something that dangerous armed men WHO HAD ALREADY MURDERED SOMEONE were hunting for.
The entrance codes thing was just painful.
The cat was not a tabby and nothing got tamed.
To sum up, this was a muddled mess from start to finish, not quite as weird, nasty and illogical as the last one, but it was close. I can only conclude that Kathi no longer really wants to write this series but is contracted for a certain number and is grinding them out so she can write other things she actually enjoys.
My review of this book is a little different - I would like to share WHY I read Kathi Daley books.
Four years ago, I didn't even know what a "cozy" was and then I stumbled on to a Kathi Daley book quite by accident, which start a love affair for me - I can't get enough of cozy mysteries! And this author gets what a cozy should be. I can honestly say that I would automatically buy any book she has written - they are just that good. Each book is extremely well-written and just the right length to keep your attention - there are no shortcuts in the plot. Her cover art is visually appealing and the font is easy to read. The books are full of friendly, folksy people you would like to have in your life as well as many animals, "magic" and otherwise. Sometimes I get to the end of a Kathi Daley book and think...how does she even think up these mysteries, let alone solve them? Excellent reads that I can't recommend highly enough.
As for this series, I particularly like the magical cats and how they figure into the stories. I like the Pacific Northwest and coffee shop backdrop to the books and how Cait and her family and friends all take part in solving a crime. In this particular book, I also enjoyed the crossover with Alyson from the author's Seacliff High mystery series - it fit nicely into the story.
What an incredible read, Kathi jumps right in and enthralls you. Cait is in an accident but doesn't remember how it happened or what she was doing on that side of the island. While trying to get help she finds a body in the road and begins to worry that she might be responsible. With the help of friends and family Cait wants to find answers to all the questions floating around in her still jumbled brain. Will she regain her memory and find the truth of what happened that night or will it remain a mystery? Meanwhile Cody has asked for her help, a friend needs a place to keep his cousins safe and he thinks the island is the best spot. The friendships the characters have are inspiring and realistic and their interactions with one another leave you wanting to be a part of the group. The cross-over in the book was seamlessly done and only added to the story line. The addition of a cat, in this case Shadow, is always something to look forward to because each one has a personality all their own. Kathi knows how to deliver a fast paced read that holds a rhythm the whole way through.
Kathi Daley knows how to get a new book of and running on the first page. The main character Cait wakes up in her boyfriend Cody's truck that she has wrecked. She is alone and must crawl up a bank with no shoes. And she cannot remember much of what has happened. She sees a man that she assumes was in the truck with her but is gone when the police arrive. And of course a black cat named Shadow arrives on the scene. And a new mystery ad possible murder has begun. As Cait recuperates and she tries to put together a new twist arrives. Cody has a friend that brings a lady and her daughter to the island to stay for awhile. Is it someone we know as the teenager makes friends with Cait's sister and reveals she can communicate with ghosts and possibly cats. I will not spoil the solving of the mystery. A wonderful new book in the Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery. Read this book and read them all in this series!
Taming of The Tabby ( Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery-Book 12 ) By: Kathi Daley Taming of The Tabby is book twelve in Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery series. Daley gives us another crossover. In Seacliff High Mystery Sarah and Alison left their home in a hurry at the end of the story. Cody is an old friend of the Witness Protection Handler and they come to stay with Cody for a while. I was grabbed right at the start and then I was hooked. This is another one of Daley’s page turners, I could not read fast enough to see what was going to happen next. Right at the start Cait has a car accident in Cody’s truck after leaving her sister’s wedding. She doesn't really remember anything that happened except a mysterious cat wakes her up. Yes there is another mystery cat to help Cait. There is also a disappearing man. Will Alyson get to help Cait on this mystery? I love these crossovers.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
The most recent book in the Whales and Tales series, featuring Coffee Cats Books and Harthaven Cat sanctuary is a cross-over read from two of my favorite series which appeal to young adults, the Seacliff High Mystery series and the Whales and Tails Cozy Mystery series.
This latest addition to the Whales & Tails mystery series does not disappoint. It grabs you from the first page & keeps you hooked till the end. This time around we are introduced to what I thought at first was a couple of new interesting characters, teenager Alyson Prescott & her mom, Sarah. What I found out later is Alyson & Sarah are characters from Kathi Daley's Seacliff High series. I've read quite a few of her different series but never that one. I am thoroughly intrigued now to check it out. However, back to Taming of the Tabby, this one was a crazy adventure ride with lots of twists & turns.
I loved this crossover book with characters from two of her series. I really liked the intrigue with the Russian spies in this one and the dual storyline of a woman and her daughter in witness protection. The daughter can see and communicate with ghosts. The book caught my attention in the beginning and kept it until the very end. I loved Shadow the cat in this one. Sounds like he found a good home in the end. I would love to have a story with Allison and her friend, that would make an awesome series as well. Loved this book and I love this series.
A new Whales and Tails adventure with Cait and Cody. In this story Cait has a bad accident and can't remember anything about the accident. Cody is helping a young lady who is in the witness protection program. Together they all try to figure out what happened to Cait and why a man is dead. See how it all turns out in this wonderful well written crossover book. Alyson from Sea Cliff high is the helpful young lady.
