A good and funny book. The author describes the cultural shocks that he faced in Germany and how he has integrated in the German culture with time. His descriptions were very funny. Even though I have lived in Germany for 2 years now, I still got to know some new things. A great book for foreigners who are new to Germany as they can relate to his experiences. But, do not expect any tips or something for a new person in Germany. It is more like getting to know Germany better.

Gutes und lustiges Buch. Der Autor erzählt seinen Kulturschocks, das er in Deutschland erfahren hat und wie er in deutschen Kultur integriert hat . Seine Beschreibungen sind sehr witzig. Obwohl ich seit 2 Jahre Deutschland wohne, habe ich immer noch neue Sachen über Deutschland dutch dieses Buch kennengelernt. Ich glaube, dass diese Buch sehr gut für Ausländer, die neu in Deutschland sind, ist, weil sie sich auf Autors Erfahrungen beziehen können. Aber bitte erwarten Sie keinen Tipps für Leben in Deutschland. Es ist einen guten Weg um Deutschland besser kennenzulernen.

Mildly funny British guy parlays his experiences in Germany into several books. Brilliant move printing it in both English and German, making the book appear twice as substantive. As somebody who's been struggling mightily with the German language for over two years, I enjoyed the bits about how difficult German is much more than I did the ending where he knows more than anybody else in his Orientierungskurs including the teacher. Also, there were a lot a lot of typos, at least in the English half.

That's a funny book, + I can relate to some of the situations he described. He captures the essence of the process of "Germanization" very well!

Er reist ins 17. Bundesland Mallorca und stürzt sich in die Abgründe des deutschen Schlagers. Liebevoll und mit viel britischem Humor erzählt er von seinen teutonischen Abenteuern, und warum er dieses Land und seine Bewohner so in sein Herz geschlossen hat.
Die Zweisprachigkeit des Buches hat mich von Beginn an gereizt, denn so bietet sich dem Leser die Möglichkeit zwischen der Muttersprache und der Sprache der neuen Heimat des Autors zu wechseln.
Beide Varianten lesen sich meines Erachtens nach sehr gut und flüssig, sie sind angenehm geschrieben und leicht verständlich. Auch die Übersetzung ist meiner Meinung nach gut gelungen, so dass ich nicht das Gefühl hatte, dass in einer sprachlichen Version mehr Witz oder Information steckt.
Zu seiner Recherche ist Adam Fletcher eindeutig in die Klischee-Kiste gesprungen, das hatte ich aber so erwartet, denn schon der Titel ‚Make me German‘ schreit Klischee!
Bei dieser Lektüre muss man als Deutsche_r nicht zimperlich sein, denn teilweise wird man hier sehr auf die Schippe genommen. Dennoch habe ich die Lektüre als durchaus humorvoll empfunden und mich nicht angegriffen gefühlt.

Amusing and informative book, for those who love Germany and/or Germans. Finally, I understand why my husband has so many insurance policies, and what the deal is with the carbonated drinks. 'My schorle is kaputt' is now part of our family vocabulary!

Apart from his obsession with Schlager, this book is hilarious, insightful and thoroughly enjoyable. It delights with many very relatable (and cringey) anecdotes about this weird Teutonic homeland of mine. Plus the included "How German are you?" quiz is a hit with both Krauts and internationals.

A very nice read -- fun book. The author by himself is hilarious and it's very entertaining on how he shows something about the German culture and still were able to make me laugh.

Ich werde das gleiche Format wie das Buch folgen für mein Review.
Entschuldigung im Voraus für meines schlechtes Deutsch.
Natürlich habe ich viel Google translate benützt.
Dieses Buch ist perfekt für Ausländer, die in Deutschland gelebt haben.
Ich weiß ich war da nur für eine kurze Zeit, aber diese Zeit hat mein Leben wirklich verändert.
Dieses Buch erzählt die komische Dinge, die mir an den Deutschen aufgefallen sind, und einige der kleinen Kulturschocks, auf die ich gestoßen bin.
Wahrscheinlich hätte mir dieses buch nicht gefallen, wenn ich selbst deutsch gewesen wäre aber für Menschen das nur Deutsch üben möchten, und ein bisschen deutsche kultur lernen wollen, kann ich dieses buch nur empfehlen.
Gut.

This book talks about some of the funny things I noticed that Germans do, the little culture shocks you may experience and it illustrates how Germans react to your Ausländer occurrences.
The book really hit a note in me when I read the burocratic part.
Probably I wouldn't have liked this book if I was German myself, but for people who just want to practice their German and learn a bit about German culture, this book is highly recommendable.

There's nothing spectacular in this bilingual book, but just a decent product which gives you what it promises. It is a pure English product, consisting in defining in a light way the sociological identity of a people, and it does it very correctly. It's funny, self-deprecating -do we know what self stands for in this case?- and on the intelligent side of things. Not recommended if you are ignorant of German culture. Not only because of bilingualism (I only read the English version), but because of many references and full of text in German, mostly untranslated. You recognise things that you didn't know before coming into contact with the German world, like their stand vis-à-vis black mould on showers or their love for Jack Wolfskin. Enjoyable. It is not high-literature, but it's well written nevertheless. Funnier than average and, I repeat, sehr decent.

Ein humorvolles Buch, es hat Spass gemacht Adam auf seiner Reise zu begleiten und besonders toll fand ich die Aufmachung, das Buch als Wendebuch zu gestalten und so auswählen zu können, in welcher Sprache man es ließt.

Have you already read this two-faced humorous directory to German culture, TV, habits and some other perks of integration? Adam Fletcher (or Fletscher) took up some challenges to get closer to becoming a part of his adopted nation and in his book he gives a humorous report of his trials featuring German language, Mitfahrtgelegenheit, Schützenfest, Mallorca and many other details so 'dear' to any immigrant's heart

I enjoyed this book so much partly because a relaxing funny read is a welcome distraction from my usual book list. Besides it gives you a feeling of shared experience with many others who live in Germany but most importantly it gives you a good laugh
