Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice-Cream

Rate this book
Dani’s on a mission to get her life back on track by the end of the Summer. Running, rowing, aerobics and more, but perhaps all she needs are sweet treats and a second chance?

Twenty years ago, Dani fled Appledore with a broken-heart and a suitcase full of shattered dreams. Only now is she brave enough to put her past behind her and return for a summer selling homemade ice-cream and getting fit by doing sit-ups by the sea.

But the new-look cafe is filled with old memories of Jude, her teenage sweetheart-turned-sour. She thinks of him every time she swirls warm sauce onto a “chocolate-bockaglory” and even with the help of Chris, her gorgeous personal trainer, the urge to break her diet is everywhere she turns.

When Jude makes an appearance at the cafe on the eve of Dani’s birthday party, history threatens to repeat itself. Is Dani strong enough to say no? And is the love she’s been longing for much closer than she thinks?

5☆ Uplifting, Heart Warming Courageous, Very Funny,

This is the second book in the series and wow it was good.
Although it is book 2, It can be comfortably read as a standalone book.

The first book melted my heart the second has done exactly the same! I loved it!!

Curves, kisses and Chocolate ice cream, is a book about personal struggles and overcoming your demons, new beginnings, friendship, relationships, humour, scrumptious ice cream, fab characters.

Dani is the main character in the story.
Wow what a women!!
She is a character I can 100% relate too. Emotional eating, battling with self esteem, doubts, no self confidence... the list goes on.
But she is funny, determined, extremely likeable. My favourite character.

After countless attempts to change something finally clicks.....Dani enters a gym.... well I was laughing so hard I had tears! Everything that could go wrong....did go wrong... she got cramp.. fell off a treadmill ... the list goes on!!

Dani really doesn't have it easy. She is hiding from her past. Her past Ex's have left her not trusting of men.
Until she meets Chris at the gym!

He sees something in Dani.
At first I believed he was just be friending her as a way to help he's business and it mad me angry to think he was going to expose her vulnerability for personal gain.
But then I warmed to him.
Just as much as he warmed to Dani.
He captures her heart but can he keep it when her Ex turns up!

I loved seeing Dani grow as a person and her journey to get healthy.
My god we can relate to the endless pressure we put upon ourselves.

What I loved was how real the story was and how real Dani was.

Sue really did her research and opened up the raw emotions and the mask Dani wore.
The emotional eating when people tore into her unknowingly.  The effects comments have on people behind closed doors was bang on!!

I loved that each chapter had a little paragraph detailing that months diet plan. It made me laugh.

On a brighter note. Sue had me in tears of laughter with her witty writing and wicked sense of humour,  the banter between Dani and Chris. Her witty one liners.

I was very excited to see old faces. Especially the Nan. She is my all time favourite character.

Sue is definitely fast becoming one of my favourite Authors.
I love books that are very funny, but can be real at the same time and Sue captures the two perfectly!

This is the perfect feel good summer read, that will have you laughing out loud till the early hours, plus it has a scrumptious cover!

Would I recommend this book......100% ......YES!!!!

I can't wait for the next instainstalment.

I received this book from the Publisher in exchange for a honest and fair review via Netgalley.

This is the second book in a series, I loved Ella’s Ice Cream Summer and was really excited I didn’t have to wait very long for the second book. This one was just as wickedly funny as the first and had just as much heart and warmth, I LOVED it!

Dani was such a fun heroine, she’s sassy and has a super funny self deprecating sense of humor and she’s always struggled with her weight. She’s so relatable, what woman hasn’t had the same issues with weight and body image? I just adored Dani and her attitude was amazing, when she finally decides to take getting into shape seriously, she does it wholeheartedly and she maintained a positive attitude throughout, she was truly inspirational.

The humor is one of my favorite parts of any Sue Watson book, so I have to highlight some of the funniest moments. Every chapter is not only hilariously titled, they begin with a paragraph or so detailing one of Dani’s many failed diets. She’s tried some crazy ones in the past and they had me giggling like a maniac. Checking in with Ella and the gang was another treat and that meant seeing Sue again! Her malapropisms are also back and one of my favorites was when she asked if someone wanted ordinary coffee or decapitated. Oh gosh it has me cracking up again!!

This is the ideal series for summer, you have an idyllic location in Appledore along with the even sweeter setting of the ice cream shop, I dare you to read this without eating some! It’s impossible I think. On top of all that, you have a side of romance as Dani’s ex, Jude is back in town and her new personal trainer is hunky and charming. What more could you want?! For me, absolutely nothing this was a wonderful, feel good, funny read with a fantastic heroine. And ice cream. Enough said.

Amazing! Laugh out loud funny but with a poignant heart, this story has everything. Great dollops of humour, a huge serving of romance, a sprinkling of heartbreak and lashings of delicious ice-cream, a beautiful story told in Sue Watson's trademark style - what's not to like? LOVED this beautiful book. This author just gets better and better with every book and I just cannot wait for her next!

Fun, summer feel-good book! Anyone who loves to eat and is suffering or has suffered from weight issues in the past will enjoy this storyline featuring Dani, a plump woman about to turn 40. She loves food (especially ice cream), hates exercise, and is dying to lose weight and feel good about herself. This book is her journey on her 39th summer which has many funny, laugh out loud moments as well as some more sober ones. Great beach read!

We are back in the town of Appledore and this time we meet Dani. She left Appledore twenty years before with a broken heart and now she is back, overweight and desperate to become thinner and more fabulous in time for her fourtieth birthday. Dani is a very likeable character and to be honest you just know that she is going to struggle on her weightloss challenge. The first quarter of the book really sets the scene and the reader really gets to see what Dani is up against including some very funny scenes when she attempts to go to the gym.

Once Dani is in her stride she is joined by Chris from the gym who is on a mission to help her with her plan to lose weight. It was also nice to see brief glimpses of characters from the first book set in the same town. Although these are all set around the town and the Ice Cream Cafe, each book can certainly be read as a standalone. As the story progresses you soon understand that this is the reader experiencing Dani's journey with her, including all the pitfalls and funny moments too.

In one respect this was very different from her last book but actually that m ade no difference and it was nice to have such a departure. As usual Sue Watson has created a book that will lift your spirits and more importantly make you laugh. I am a huge fan, and although this may not be my favourite of hers, it's a brilliant addition and one that I thoroughly loved. Be warned though, with the sheer descriptive deliciousness, don't expect to NOT want to eat a number of summer deserts whilst reading. The perfect beach read that will have you laughing into your Cocktail!

Curves, Kisses, and Chocolate Ice-Cream is a fun summer romp and perfect for any woman's beach bag. That said, it is the second book in the Ice-Cream Cafe series but can be read as a complete standalone. For those who enjoy the chick lit and women's fiction genre, this would be the perfect fit for you! It's a relatable tale about a "curvier" woman who just wants to loose a few pounds. How many of us have been in this same predicament? I can assume that most if not all have felt this way before. And indeed, so does our heroine (Dani). Although, giving up the sweet treats and actually exercising isn't her idea of fun. Now, at times I felt that Dani came off as a bit whiny - we get it, your heavy-set and don't like people making fun and talking about you behind your back- but other than that I truly enjoyed the novel.

If you want a fun summer read with relatable characters and the perfect setting to relax into then you should pick up a copy of this lovely little read. It's sweet, charming, and filled with delicious ice-cream treats that will leave you salivating over the pages.

Without a doubt, my new favourite book by Sue Watson - its fabulous, its funny, its full of ice-cream, its full of all around goodness, wrapped into one fantabulous story!

I spent so much of the first part of the book laughing and smiling, and also seeing myself in the main character of Dani. Dani is on the larger size, works in an ice-cream shop, and consistently wishes she was thinner, but she also loves to binge eat and isn't too keen on exercise. She is full of good intentions, and has a really bubbly personality, although often she perhaps talks a bit too much.

The first couple of times Dani goes into the gym are hilarious, her mouth runs away from her induction interview, then the treadmill runs away from her in another session, and then there is another injury too. Needless to say that Dani and gyms don't necessarily go together, but then she gels with Chris, and things begin to change!

The descriptions of ice-cream in this book are mouth watering, I was finding I could only really read this book while I was eating, or else I would have been binge eating like Dani, to cope with the hunger being generated by the salivating descriptions of ice-cream flavours.

This is of course the ice-cream shop that featured in the first Appledore book, but they can both be read as standalones. It is of course great to catch up with the gang from the shop, and I was especially pleased to see that Sue makes a reappearance. I can't believe how many more malapropisms she has, but they made me laugh, or at least roll an eye with each one!

At the start of each chapter there is one of Dani's previous failed diets, plus the reasoning for being on the diet in the first place. If you are on the lookout for a new diet, I wouldn't recommend any of the ones Dani's tried as they clearly don't work that well, or have horrible side effects, but the do make for amusing reading!

I can't express how satisfying and enjoyable I found every second of this wonderfully entertaining story.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Bookouture for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This was a fantastic read, one that kept a huge smile on my face and had me laughing right the way through it.

The book is about Dani, a larger curvy woman who works in an ice cream shop in the seaside town Appledore.

Obviously working in the ice cream shop isnt helping Dani with her weight, aside from that Dani has gone through a number of personal issues that have led her to turn to food in times of comfort. So she finally decides enough is enough and signs up to a gym were a hunky gym instructor gives her the motivation to lose weight and exercise and become a completely different woman.

Overall this was a super summer read one I think a lot of people can relate too and be inspired by the character Dani.

Dani is not your usual protagonist. She is plus-sized and has a heart of gold which makes her all the more lovable to readers. Trying to make a change for the better isn't always easy. All the talk of food did make me hungry. We are gifted with a beautiful story with a light romance that blossoms in the unlikeliest of places. Truly a wonderful plot that goes by all too quickly. I hope you'll give this author a chance. Her books are contemporary and perfect to fit in some reading during the hectic holidays.

Summer's just begun but I've already found a book that will go on my TOP 5 summer reads list! OMG Sue Watson has done it again! Once again she proves she creates the yummiest and funniest books. As someone who's read all of her books and has been devotedly following her work for years, I can say (without a single doubt) this is definitely the best she's written! I have so much love for this book I honestly don't know even where to start with my review. I just feel like screaming from the rooftop, JUST READ THE BOOK! But I know that won't please you and if you're here, you're obviously looking for at least few coherent sentences to tell you what the book is about. So...I will try, I'll really do my best but know from start that my review won't do it justice.

First off, this is THE PERFECT summer book! Not just because there's tons of ice creams flavours mentioned (OK, that's a big bonus), or even because it's set in a beautiful, picturesque place by the sea, Appledore. In my opinion, what makes this book the perfect summer read is that strong feel good factor that oozes through the pages and that effortless humour which is undoubtedly Sue's forte. It's definitely one of the wittiest and most fun books I've ever read and though I already loved every single book Sue's written, this one was sheer brilliance. It's actually the book I wish I had written (Ha! IF only I had Sue's talent).

'Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice-Cream' is the second installment in The Ice Cream series, and while I really enjoyed the first one and could feel this will be a terrific series, this book simply exceeded all my expectations. Once again we're back in beautiful Appledore where we also meet some of the characters from the first book (Ella and her cousin Gina, who own Caprioni's Ice-Cream Cafe and amazing Sue is there too). I loved reading about Ella and seeing how life turned out for her. However, the main character in this book is Dani, the assistant manager at Caprioni's. Dani is simply brilliant! Think of Jemima J approaching her 40s. She's the ultimate chick lit heroine, upbeat, single and with such zest for life (and ice creams). She's a big foodie, always has been. Chips, chocolate, doughnuts, and of course ice cream is on her daily menu. She's always been on the plus size, however there's a big reason why she's so much into comfort food. Now she's approaching 40 and wants to finally solve this problem. 40 is the new 20 (or so they say) and is there a better way to reclaim the power in your life (and get your revenge for the broken heart) than by becoming an attractive and stylish adult?

Each of the chapters is named after a diet she's tried in her life (and boy, she's tried so many of them!) and starts with a Diary entry which will make you laugh out loud. As in all of Sue's books, there's a message for every woman out there, a message that will warm your hearts. As we follow Dani's story, from one failed diet to the next, one gym injury to the next, through tears and laughter we get to realize (once again) that there's more to life than having the 'perfect' body. And what's a perfect body anyway? We all definite it differently, right?

Yet as light as this book is, it still speaks about many important subjects such as self love (or the lack of it) and body shaming (which we see so often in today's society). Everywhere we go we're bombarded by these skinny and unhealthy girls looking at us from the cover of those glossy magazines and our culture demands we follow their example. Many times those who don't follow this trend are mocked and bullied in such horrific ways it scars their personality for life. Through Dani, Sue speaks on behalf of many women out there, women who just want to be accepted. This is why I think many women will be able to connect to Dani on so many levels and cheer for her from the start. She's such a lovable character and definitely one of my fave book heroines.

This is also one of these rare books where I liked all the characters (except for Jude) and all of them were so interesting. I really wish I get to see more of Karla, she's Dani's BFF and one fantastic lady. She's always there for Dani and has been her biggest support for the last two decades. I absolutely loved their bond, how strong it is and how much they accept each other's differences.

If you were wondering if there's any romance, oh yes there is. It's Classic Sue Watson so the romance is gradually built and will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. But there will be some drama too, so I won't say anything more to spoil it for you.

This is one hell of a gorgeous summer book and if you're looking for something light and easy, yet a book that will make you feel so so soooo good, this is definitely the one. Sue really sets the bar high this time and I can't wait to see what will be happening in Appledore next. While I was extremely sad to say bye to Dani, I have fingers crossed tightly she makes another appearance in some of Sue's other books. Yup, she totally got under my skin! Witty, delicious yet absolutely calorie-free, this is definitely Sue's best book yet. Even if you haven't read the first part in the series, you can easily jump into this one. I promise, you're going to love it.

I think that "Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice - Cream" is a story that many of the readers can relate too. I, for once, can. I've been struggling with my weight since I've become a mum - right after bringing the little one home I was so slender like never before and it stayed like this for some time but then the PND began, together with comfort eating and so the kilos started to pile and well, they don't want to go away, no matter what. I am not overweight, well, maybe a little, but I just don't feel well with me weight. And so I could SO completely understand Dani, and I could see all of the excuses that I am using to start better eating - it is always from the next Monday. So this is probably why I could so well connect with Dani - because I've been there, I've seen this. Sue Watson in a brilliant, sensitive way explains Dani's feelings about food and I could nod my head as I was so getting it.

Even though this book is second in the series, you can absolutely read it as a stand - alone. And personally I think that this story was much, much better than the previous one! Yes, we meet some of the characters from the previous book but those are only small vignettes, as the story really focuses on Dani and her battle with her weight and her weakness. This journey is full of funny and poignant moments, full of strength and weakness, showing all the ups and downs of trying to pull their socks up and feeling better. Not all have such a willpower that one word and decision is all they have to do - sadly.

With "Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice - Cream" we are back in Appledore, meeting Dani this time. She's left the town twenty years before, heartbroken, and now she's back - overweight, unhappy, desperate to become thinner for her fortieth birthday. However, working in the Ice - Cream Cafe doesn't help to keep her diets... What must happen that Dani sees what feeling good is really about? Is it really all about the weight?

I think Dani belongs to those characters that you can't not like. She is determined but also weak, and she often gives up only to start again the next day - such a well - known vicious circle! She's honest and she's maintaining a healthy distance from herself but she also often uses the humour against herself.

There is a brilliant feel to this story, and I think it's because Sue Watson has perfectly well blended together poignant and funny moments. Well, funny - they were funny for us but for sure not always for Dani! She is again your usual, normal woman, just like many of us, and Sue Watson can really write those characters. And it was truly Dani that has made this story - she was so lovely, bubbly and quirky, full of good intentions and with the right sense of humour and her favourite sport was coaching, and I immediately thought, my kind of girl! Talking too much, wearing her heart on her sleeve, here is our Dani. And it is great that at the end she's going to find balance - it's the most important thing, no matter if you're overweight or not.

Each chapter of the book starts with Dani mentioning her previous diet - there were many of them, and all failed but you have to read the reasons why they failed and why she was trying this particular diet at all - oh, this was brilliant and very, very amusing! And thanks to Sue Watson (not!) I am turning into a real ice - cream fan. I'm not so much into ice - creams but all the descriptions were so mouth - watering, all the different flavours sounded so, so good, I would love to try them!

Sue Watson's shows with her book that impossible is nothing for her - she has taken a very sensitive topic and managed to turn it into a great, honest, down - to - earth realistic story. She has got into Dani's head and translated for us all of her feelings and emotions, explaining why she doesn't feel comfortable in her own body and why she couldn't change it. So truly, under the funny, light - hearted topping, there is a lot of depth to this story and it has many, many layers.
The strength of this book lies not in the characters, or the humour, or twists and turns but in the fact that Sue Watson has decided to write about such sensitive topic and she brilliantly pulled it off, so hats off to her for this, and standing ovation from me personally. She writes about insecure women that aren't afraid to eventually and finally spread their wings, and it is always so inspiring. Her writing style is colourful, full of sharp humour, and vivid, easily bringing the events in the story to life.

So altogether, "Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice - Cream" was a very relatable story about a woman like many others trying to loose some weight, told in a sober, genuine, down - to - earth way with a lot of understanding and without patronising or offending someone. There are characters you can't help but root for, a lovely setting, even more lovely background of the Ice - Cream Cafe, nice weather and feel - good factor - what more do you need than this lovely, sweet and charming story? Recommended!

Book #2 in The Ice-Cream Café series by the very talented Sue Watson was just as yummy as the first book! Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice-Cream introduces the reader to Dani Sheridan, the new assistant manager Ella hires for the Ice-Cream Café. I found Dani to be 100% relatable and easy to empathize with. As a fellow ice-cream addict, erm…connoisseur of all things ice-cream, I completely felt for Dani and the journey she is on.

I loved being back in Appledore with the gang and getting to know Dani. One of the best things about this book, for me, is the author tells a new story instead of rehashing the same story from before. The original characters all make numerous appearances, but this story is all about Dani and her struggles with her weight and self-esteem. Her early experiences at the gym and meeting Chris had me wiping tears of laughter from my eyes and thanking the good Lord I didn’t endure the gym catastrophes Dani did, but I admired her determination and tenacity to keep moving forward.

I was mortified for her when the newspaper article comes out and though it is highly humorous, I understood how Dani felt and would have joined her on a splurge. She is so human, after all, and like the rest of us have highs and lows.

When the reader finally learns what happened to Dani that drove her away for twenty years, I just wanted to cry and hug her. I admired the strength of her character for wanting to put the past behind her and start over in a town she has always called home and ring in her fortieth birthday in style.

I also enjoyed watching Dani’s relationship with Chris blossom from professional training to friendship and hoped pretty please with a cherry on top that their friendship would bloom into more.

My Final Verdict: Overall, this book worked for me on so many levels. Characters that are easy to relate to and care about, locales that have so much charm and appeal you want to go there immediately and a story that serves up so much sweet and yummy goodness, you want to dive head-first into the story and be a part of it. I highly recommend this story to readers of the chick-lit, contemporary romance and women’s fiction genres, but also to readers who like to see good people get a break and find success.

Dani works in the ice-cream shop in Appledore and being surrounded by sweet heaven isn’t really working well for her weight. Food and eating is her comfort, when problems arise, but she’s had enough and decides to join a local gym, where she meets a gym instructor.

I really liked how each chapter started-failed attempts at diets and the reasons behind the diet. While it was really funny book, it also had thought provoking moments. It’s definitely a book a lot of people can relate to and I did enjoy it a lot.

Even though this is the second book in The Cafe Ice Cream series, as it’s a different set of main characters, this book can easily be read as a stand alone.

I have to admit this was quite an emotional book for me. Anyone that has ever battled with their weight is going to be able to relate to Dani. In parts it was actually quite painful as I saw so much of myself in her. If anything I have to say a big thank you to the author as this book has made me even more determined to quit the diets and just start making healthier choices. It even made me contemplate exercise and that is definitely going some.

Even though there is a wonderful relationship blossoming between Dani and Chris and that wonderful sense of romance brewing, this so much more than just your stereo typical romance. This is about a woman finally finding peace within herself and learning to love that person inside that everyone else can see.

Chris I absolutely loved. I so need this man in my life for many reasons. He really is such a great character and he is going to have so many readers falling head over heels for him.

This is such a truly wonderful book. In fact it is now my personal favourite of the authors. I feel like it should be my personal bible to keep going back to, to give me inspiration that it’s never to late to turn yourself around. Thank you Sue Watson for creating such larger than life characters who never fail to give us hope whilst giving us an utterly enjoyable reading experience.

My thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

We eat either to escape some emotional trauma or to fill an emotional need, and that’s why it is known as comfort food. And this comfort food is almost always something delicious, something ridiculously fattening, and something which fills the mouth with bursts of flavor and hips with a bigger arse. That is the law of Murphy… Everything good is seriously bad for us.

The author, Sue Watson, also has her main character, Dani, doing just that: eating to forget her ex’s lousy behaviour, her mother’s emotional negligence, to forget that she is fat and to hide the pain when people point out the obvious..

I could identify myself with Dani (but unlike her, I do not like ice creams, chocolates, or cakes..) and I understood her pain at the comments received. Ultimately, Dani has had enough with the direction where her life and her size are heading, so she decides to take charge. And there enters Prince Charming a.k.a personal trainer, Chris who helps her with her weight loss mission. Her ex Jude also would like to know her better now. And all of a sudden, a fitter Dani has a lot of options to choose from…

The author, Sue Watson, has done a brilliant job with this piece of writing. The second half of the book is exemptuous. The way Dani grows into her confident, beautiful self is a sight to behold, and I just read the entire book at a go, all the while rooting for Dani, cheering her on from the sidelines. The other characters, her friends at work and her best friend, Karla are supportive and quirky. All of them together take the book from ordinary to extraordinary.

When Dani reaches the finish line, no one was more happy than I (girls with curves unite!!). This is the beauty of Ms. Watson’s writing. Her words go beyond the plot line to touch the inner woman, they resonate with her genuineness, and there is something so encouraging with the way she writes that the words fills our inner core with confidence. I believe, no woman who reads this book, would come away unaffected.

The emotions felt have a wide array, I found myself getting frustrated with Dani when she doesn’t take charge, angry with her when she gives excuses in the first half of the book. But in the second half, when Dani blossoms and there is happiness, sheer bliss and I laughed with her. The emotions felt are so exhilarating that I found myself running along with her, ready to face the world.

The only point that jarred me and almost made me lose interest is when the main character Dani ruminates and ponders on and on and on. That goes on for pages, the same matter explained in different ways, but then the story picks up and goes back on track.

I kept this book on hold as I wanted to read it when life was dark and gloomy. I knew Ms. Sue Watson brilliance with her words would definitely bring a ray of hope to the heavy heart. Her words light a fire in the heart and make us bolder and confident. My first book by her, but definitely not my last.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher Bookouture and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

You may remember from my review of the first book in this series, Ella’s Ice-Cream Summer, that this isn’t my typical type of read. But after having enjoyed the first one so much, I couldn’t resist picking this one up as well and it’s every bit as heartwarming.

Dani has a bit of an unhealthy relationship with food. Twenty years ago, she left Appledore but life didn’t quite pan out the way she thought it would and now she’s back. Determined to finally let go of the past and get fit in the meantime, she signs up for gym lessons with a gorgeous personal trainer, Chris. But temptation is everywhere, especially when you work in an ice-cream parlour.

I found Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice Cream a bit more of an emotional ride than its predecessor but that’s not a bad thing. The story is incredibly realistic and believable and I’m sure us women can all relate to Dani’s circumstances as far as body issues and low self-esteem are concerned. Yet she’s an amazing and funny lady and I warmed to her instantly. Her diary entries about numerous diets she’s tried are hilarious!

There are appearances from characters from the first book which I thoroughly enjoyed. They may not be the main attractions in this story but they leave their mark regardless. Their help and support is invaluable to Dani. I found myself truly caring and by the end of the book, all I really wanted to do was hug Dani and say “you go, girl!”

Of course there are some emotional moments where I almost shed a tear and that doesn’t happen often, let me tell you. But there’s ice cream and the beach, romance, plenty of chuckles and laugh-out-loud moments and so yes, this is a perfect feel-good summer read!

This is the first book I have read by Sue Watson but I can absolutely guarantee that it won’t be the last one I read. I have heard lots of good things about Sue from other bloggers, authors and readers. When I was offered the chance to participate in the blog tour for ‘Curves, Kisses & Chocolate Ice-Cream’, it seemed the ideal opportunity to acquaint myself with Sue’s work.

As I always say, I don’t want to write too much about the storyline as I have a nasty habit of giving away far too much about books I have enjoyed (oops). Well I totally and absolutely flipping loved this book but more about that later. The synopsis says it all really. Ten years ago Dani fled Appledore with a broken heart and a lot of broken dreams. Only now does she feel strong enough to try to put her past behind her and to return to the scene of heartbreak, Appledore. Dani gets herself a job working in the new look ‘Ice Cream Cafe’, which has certainly changed since she lived in Appledore. Dani is still nursing a broken heart and everywhere she turns in Appledore, there seems to be a reminder of her ‘lost love’ Jude, although she does have the gorgeous sounding, personal trainer Chris to keep her occupied. The temptation to break her diet is everywhere. Jude makes a reappearance (boo hiss) at Dani’s birthday party and history threatens to repeat itself. Is Dani going to get the body she so dreams of having? Will Dani be able to deal with the past which threatens to spoil her future? Will Dani’s birthday party go with a bang? Will Dani get back with Jude or is she destined to be with someone else? Well for the answers to those questions and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves. You won’t regret it.

I absolutely, totally and utterly loved the character of Dani for many reasons- some of which I am not going to go into on a blog. Those who know me well will realise why if they read the book. Anyway back to Dani. She is one funny, realistic and down to earth girl. We learn that she has been bullied through school and that after having had it drummed into her for years and years that she is a worthless, fat ugly blob who spoils everything, Dani believes it herself. She puts herself down with so many comments but I think that her thinking is that if she makes negative comments about herself, then she gets in there first so that nobody else can. We learn rather a lot about Dani’s home life too which was far from ideal. All this helps to explain why she is how she is. Dani can’t see what everybody else can see. Dani is a kind, friendly, warm, generous, funny and a good friend to all. It’s true that Dani is rather impatient and she wants the supermodel/ think look like yesterday but as her friend Karla reminds her- these things take time and there is no overnight solution. I loved Dani’s sessions at the gym. Anybody who has been to the gym has fallen off one piece of equipment at one time or another injuring themselves and most will be able to empathise with Dani’s reluctance to go to the gym. I loved the little anecdotes and life lessons which popped up every so often throughout the book. One such quote is that Dani ‘has to confront the past before it threatens her future’. A lot of people will certainly make use of that pearl of wisdom. I also loved the character of Karla, who is Dani’s best friend and who also handily happens to be a psychologist. She loves Dani dearly and supports her in everything she does but Karla is also realistic and is ready to give Dani a reality check when she feels it is necessary. Chris sounds adorable and if every man who works in a gym is as good looking as Chris sounds, then I would never be away from the place.

In my opinion, ‘Curves, Kisses & Chocolate Ice-Cream’ is extremely well written with the perfect mix of love, real life, drama, tear jerking moments and moments where you just want to leap into the pages of the book and give Dani a hug. I really did feel that I had been on a rollercoaster of emotions after I had finished reading this book with all the highs, lows and laughs in between. I became addicted to reading this book and it was almost as if it became glued to my hand as it came everywhere with me. I was reading so quickly that the pages almost began to turn themselves and before I knew it I had finished the book, which I was pleased about (because I knew how the story ended) but not pleased about (because I wanted the story to go on and on). Bookworms will understand exactly what I mean by this. ‘Curves, Kisses & Chocolate Ice-Cream’ is the second book in the ‘Ice Cream Cafe’ series but it can also be read as a standalone.

In short and just in case you haven’t gathered by now, I absolutely, well and truly, flipping LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book and I so hope that the series featuring the Ice Cream Café is going to continue on and on. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for the characters. I would definitely recommend this book to others and I can’t wait to dive into Sue’s other books, which I just know are going to be just as good as this one. I easily award ‘Curves, Kisses & Chocolate Ice-Cream’ 5* out of 5* but I would award it more stars if I could because I enjoyed it so much.

I loved visiting in Appledore with Ella as she found a new purpose and direction and breathed new life into her aunt’s café on the seashore. Now the call to come home has reached Dani, and as the new manager of the café, she’s searching for somewhere familiar and comfortable while she decides on her next moves. For me, Dani was a bit of a difficult character at first: she’s guarded and appears to be easy-going, not taking anything too seriously except food. But that approach hides some very deep-rooted issues: issues that she pushes away with humor and then uses to beat herself up. Not only is she presenting a face that isn’t honest to the world, she’s incorporated that dishonesty to her own self: preferring to ignore emotions or stuff them down with food, rather than allow herself to feel anything past the textures and endorphin rush of the next mouthful.

But Watson has other ideas for the heroine: giving her a safe space with supportive characters around her (yes, all of the people from the first book are very well represented here) and a best friend who alternates between supportive and take no prisoners. Dani needs to make changes in her life: deal with her own lingering issues from childhood and her weight: and with a crush on the handsome man who runs the gym, she has that option. Throughout her ups and downs, her discovering just how much better she feels after exercising and getting fitter, and a dream of a dress for her 40th birthday, Dani struggles through the process and slowly (perhaps a bit too slowly for her own good) starts to wrestle down the demons from her past.

It isn’t until Dani starts to mesh (to me) that I couldn’t help but enjoy her. Blessed with a marvelous sense of humor, the early self-deprecating comments were a “say it first to save everyone else the trouble” defense: as she learns and finds little successes in fitness, those comments start to feel less defensive, and her actual embracing of emotions, finding the strength to stand up for herself as a viable and lovely being, and her finding a place that feels like the home she longed for as a child, she’s making huge progress. What emerges is a story that is hard to put down, even with the moments I had with her: insets from Gina and Elle, Elle’s mum and her social media immersion, Sue and her malapropisms and even the fashionista dog and a surly, if protective baker, all form a support system for her, full of laughs, emotions and missteps. Watson had me feeling every one of Dani’s issues:: a true highlight of this book.

If you read and loved the first – you’ll enjoy this one. And if you haven’t – I suggest you give this series a try: easy to read in any order, Sue Watson is an author you’ll want to experience.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Dani grew up in Appledore with an alcoholic mother, who constantly belittled her. Twenty years ago, after a broken heart and one last argument with her mother, she fled Appledore for London. Now she is back, making and selling homemade ice-cream and determined to become a skinnier and healthier woman. In order to do that, she has some baggage she needs to deal with. Her 40th birthday is coming up and she wants to be thinner and gorgeous so she can rub it in the faces of the girls who bullied her and Jude, the boy who broke her heart. Her BFF comes with her to help get her settled and she joins a gym where she meets trainer, Chris. He really wants to work with her and help her become a healthy woman, but when he realizes the she has as much to teach him as he has to teach her, feelings between them begin to blossom. What happens when two people move from friends to having romantic feelings, but both think the other's interests lie elsewhere.

I want to start this review off by saying that I am not a fan of books that make being heavy seem like something to be ashamed of, or making someone feel less worthy because of their size. That is not what this book is about. Yes, Dani felt that way about herself, and yes she had been bullied and teased, but she wants to lose the weight to become healthy in the end. Dani also has some very supportive friends who encourage her to be the best Dani she can be no matter what size she is. Twelve years ago, I was Dani. I wasn't single, but I was extremely overweight and unhealthy. I had tried all the diets, just like Dani did, but I was always doing it for some external reason: for my husband, so I wouldn't embarrass my kids, to fit into a certain outfit etc. When I realized that I had no energy, my knees and ankles ached and I was always short of breath, I realized that I had to do something. I started going to a gym and worked hard, but I did it for me! Dani is a great character. She had all the feelings that many heavy people have, but eventually, she realized that she had to do it for herself and her friends and Chris were so supportive. She also took the time to realize that her father leaving and her mother's death were not her fault and not because of her size. Overall, this is a great story, one that I really identified with. I loved the happy ending, the sense of community and friendship as well as the personal growth and self-reflection. Yes there is some romance, but that is a very small piece of this story.

A little while ago I read Ella’s Ice-Cream Summer (Review Here ) so I was on tenterhooks waiting for Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice Cream. The title alone conjures up such a delectable story, add in the cover image and it’s full steam ahead for a summer delight.

If I thought the last book was funny this one probably quadruples the pleasure. I adore the descriptions of the food (always have snacks available when reading Sue!) the characters are hilarious and it’s such a heart-warming story.

Dani is a bit on the large side so working in an ice-cream shop is far from ideal. Personal issues have caused a binge eating habit and her attempts to diet should come with a health warning! As you can imagine the gym or any form of activity is not her favourite pastime until a rather tasty (in the non-food sense) personal trainer takes her eye and she vows to get fit and lose weight before hitting forty.

Of course life is never that simple and previous traumas have resulted in some of Dani’s eating habits, broken heart = comfort eating, bullying, body shaming etc .. all things that a lot of readers can probably relate too. Sue writes about all of this with sensitivity and humour, in no way is it ridiculed or belittled it just makes us all believe we can be gorgeous as we are.

There are characters from the previous book so it’s nice to catch up with them and return to the idyllic setting of Appledore but it can easily be read as a stand alone.

Overall this is just perfect for a summer’s day, a book to make you laugh and cry so be prepared for tears of all kinds! It also serves up some positive mental attitude .. you are who you want to be … oh and did I mention the food .. just read it you won’t be disappointed.

Thanks to Sue, Bookouture and Netgalley for my copy which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

You are absolutely guaranteed a giggle with Sue Watson's books and the early scenes in the gym make you laugh out loud and made me think that's exactly how I'd be if I was brave enough to get through the gym door.
Dani who helps run the ice cream cafe is a curvy lady who has tried every diet going over the years. She knows the calorie content of everything she eats- but it just tastes sooo delicious! Working in the cafe isn't ideal for her self control either! She has to sample all the new recipes!
Her friend persuades her that she needs to start exercising and she braves the gym and meets Chris. He's the typical gym bunny- but he offers to become her personal trainer to help her get fit.She evens finds a breakfast run along the beach enjoyable.
I love the characters and the setting. You can feel the sparks between them- but neither seems to recognise the signs. Dani's goal is her 40th birthday party and the plans sound amazing and you can just imagine the cafe all decorated and the cake.
It's a really heartwarming book and I can't wait to see what the future holds with the cafe characters.

5 super huge chocolaty stars from me.

Wowzers again. I don't think Sue Watson could write a book I don't like. Curves, Kisses, and Chocolate Ice-Cream is another brilliant feel good read. Again Sue's books take me away from my usual reading of all things Crime and it's always a welcome break. Chance to get lost in the lives of others, and that's exactly what I did.
Anyone who enjoys a god Chic Lit book, will thoroughly enjoy this, and it would be a superb read for anyone heading off to the beach, to lie in the sun eating Ice Cream.
Dani Enjoys her ice creams, but she also enjoys anything else that isn't good for her, and has a big sugar addiction.
Dani at 39 wants to lose weight and get slimmer ready for her 40th birthday. But it's clear from early in the book Dani just doesn't' want to commit to stopping her treats, or getting fit. It's just to much like hard work, and when you work with Ice Cream it would just be ludicrous to not eat it.
When Dani does decide to do something about her weight, she heads off to the gym. Dani in the gym was just so funny, I loved this part of the story it had me laughing out loud in places and I could just see Dani doing it all.
Now fairs fair, and you can't knock the girl for trying, and try is certainly what she does, with the help of a personal trainer everything starts to change for Dani.
Join Dani on her journey and get reading this book. If  you like funny chic lit style books you will just love this.
And even better, I think It's compulsory to eat Ice Cream while reading this.

I am a massive Sue Watson fans. I literally adore her books. They never fail to put a great big smile on my face. Have me giggling with laughter and wishing I could step into the world her books create. She's books are chicklit at their very best and if you haven't read her books yet I highly recommend.

This book is simply wonderful and I loved every moment of it. I gobbled it up quickly and greedily.

Dani is on a mission to get her life back on track. By the end of the summer, by running, rowing, aerobics and any other physical activity you can name.

Dani fled Appledore 20 years ago. But now is the time for her to face her demons. But being back in Appledore is bringing up lots of old memories and feelings. That are best kept buried.

When Dani's first love Jude returns to the island. Is there a case of history repeating itself? Or is the man of Dani's dreams closer then she thinks?

Curves, Kisses and Chocolate Ice-Cream is the second book in the Ice-Cream Cafe Series and boy are you in for a treat. Talk about scrumptious it is simply delicious and yummy and will make your mouth water, it certainly filled my appetite to say I loved it is an understatement it's freaking amazing!

In this story we meet Dani who fled Appledore 20 years ago with a broken heart. To return and sell homemade Ice creams in the ice cream cafe. Is she ready to put the past behind her and get fit in time for her birthday party.

I am so in love with this book, the story, the characters, the setting are perfect. Who doesn't love ice cream especially in the summer. Dani is just ace,she is overweight through eating comfort food. But Sue has made her so real to life you cannot help but love her. She is witty and funny you will be laughing out loud. My stomach is actually hurting from laughing so much.

With it written from Dani’s point of view we really get to know her has a person and what makes her tick. With parts that pull on your heartstrings. Believe it or not I have been there myself with a weight problem so I can totally relate to Dani. This is a story about not giving up and being who you want to be. All everyone wants in life is to be happy.

Although this is the second book in the series this can easily be read has a standalone. This is the perfect summer read, which I cannot recommend enough giving it 5 massive scoops of ice cream.

Thank you to Kim Nash for inviting me to take part in this epic Blog Tour.

This book was a bit of a funny one for me as my feelings for the book changed so rapidly throughout. I don't think it is a diehard favourite of mine but I liked the message of self confidence and self acceptance despite disliking the female protagonist initially. Probably a good book if you want a quick fun beach read - ice cream mandatory, I should think!

Having enjoyed the first book in the series so much, I was really excited to read the next instalment. Hooked from the very first page, often laughing out loud, chuckling, giggling, smiling to myself, this was a perfect summer read. The main character, Dani is so likeable that you can't help but root for her. Without giving any spoilers, the ending was exactly as I'd hoped and even brought a happy tear to my eye. An absolutely delightful story that left me with the feel-good factor long after reading. Highly recommended.

What a lovely book from Sue Watson. This second book from the series "The Ice Cream Café" is even better than the first one, I could even say, a lot better! This time, it' about a woman who is overweight and who struggles since forever to lose weight and who will start an emotional journey into a new way of living, eating and moving with the help of her wonderful friends. I loved this book so much! I really recommend it to anyone!

I am really sorry but this book isn't working for me. I enjoyed the previous book, Ella's Ice-Cream Summer, a lot but this one can't live up to my expectations.

I liked the fact that we have an overweight character with Dani, who is struggling to lose weight. As I am overweight myself I do understand her struggles, pressuring herself and trying to resist those glorious food temptations. But her constant whining and acting like a child really got on my nerves and was simply boring. Some people might find things funny but unfortunately it wasn't my humour at all.
