Ghost Of A Machine is Book 9 in the Cyborg Sizzle series and is a STAND-ALONE story. It is also a BBW Cyborg SciFi Romance.

C345925, aka Ghost, is an emotionless shell of a cyborg serving his masters, the Humanoid Alliance, to kill those who resist the alliance as directed. Damaged, defeated, antiquated, Ghost exists only until it's decided to decommission him which should be soon.
When a call comes through a secure cyborg only frequency from a fellow cyborg ship under attack telling him to turn against his masters and kill all those aboard, Ghost knows he has little left in his lifespan so doing an honorable duty for his fellow cyborgs is the right thing to do.
Successful, those same cyborgs who wanted his help now wonder if terminating his existence is warranted for not only does Ghost declare the rebel Commander as "ours" but goes one step further to claim her second in command Lethe as "mine."
Feeling this is her chance to finally command, Lethe convinces her commander to transport her to the A Class Warship where Ghost is the sole survivor. If she survives not being killed by him, she stands a good chance of taking command to have a chance to right wrongs commited in her own past.

Stand alone installment in the Cyborg Sizzle series. A long awaited installment that I couldn't wait to get my grubby little hands on.
There's a sentence in this story that pretty much sums up my total feelings regarding this story: "ahhhhhhh." Totally fits as a majority of this story is emotionally draining. Sucked me into a dark place as Ghost and Lethe's back stories were revealed. If ever two people needed to find a soul mate and/or have happiness it was these two. A true testament into how much a person can take before they crack and then if it's possible to heal afterwards.
OK. The story itself. Things start at the point Hers To Command ends. The premise is that Ghost is damaged by his past but unable to do anything to change things. Ace & Thrasher give him that ability and this is what the story builds off of. The question is whether Lethe is strong enough to handle all the shit storm of consequences that result.
The romance between the two definitely crosses into adult content. Call me a cyborg lover because these guys, when they find their mate, partner, match, mine, whatever, treat their women as the most precious of Queens while assuring that they meet every single solitary sexual fantasy possible. Toe curling good times for all....
The author did tug at heart strings more than any previous installment in this series. That translates to a dark themed story that made sense considering yet I'm one who looks for good times with the bad times and that wasn't there. Well, maybe to some extent but ...... For that reason I'd suggest having the tissues available.
Personally, I loved this installment and feel it was the best of the series so far. I really appreciated that the author stayed true to the main characters personalities and didn't sugar coat that bad things happen but it's then how a person decides to move forward that defines them. Thanks Ms. Sax for featuring Ghost and Lethe in such a poignant emotional story.
Ok, gotta complain about he cover model again. NOT what Ghost looks like.
As I feared, by the second book I read by this author, it’s all starting to sound the same. I do like Ghost’s primitive speech patterns but after a while, the repeat cycle of : danger, fight, “breed” (oral, doggy, against wall), danger, fight........ just got really OLD.
Skipped most of this tho I paid for it. Just couldn’t force myself to read every word, not when they were the same words over and over.
3.5 stars ⭐️ Couldn’t warm up to heroine. She was some times dishonorable other times selfless. I sympathize with her past as the author intended but that didn’t made me love her. Sometimes she was very crude and each time I cringed . But the hero I loved him. He was very damaged and guilt ridden. The story was ok but had so much blood and gore. But the epilogue was a gem. Recommended.
From book 1 I had wondered what happened to this particular cyborg. I'm so glad he got his own story and that it wasn't as gut wrenching as some of the other ones. And it may just be me, but I totally dig that he was damaged and spoke like a neanderthal.
I also fell in love with how much he cared. How much he was able to glean from just watching her and paying attention to what she valued most.
And lastly Cynthia Sax did my heart a favor by letting Ghost and Rage meet, with their females. Great scene.
This was my first cyborg story & was recommended by a friend. I enjoyed Ghost & Lethe a lot! There's not a lot of dialogue - Ghost is what we like to call a being of few words. But he always makes himself understood & the inner thoughts are detailed & intelligent!! : )
I liked the pacing & the overall storyline. The sexy times are *fans self* Steamy. I had a little trouble w/ the vocabulary - the way things are named differently to make them seem "otherwordly" was a little bit much for me. There's also lots of action & some of it is a little descriptively gory.
And I absolutely adored the humor - especially in the epilogue, but the banter through the whole story (yes, banter - you'd be amazed how much emotion can be felt even when the communication is a single word!) brought many smiles to me! I will read this author again. : )
In the Cyborg Sizzle universe, the Human Alliance have been producing cyborgs, who they believe to be just machines, to fight their wars, carry out their atrocities all whilst abusing them in the all the terrible ways you can think of. After all, they’re just machines right? Wrong. The cyborgs are more than just machines and they will get them and their brethren out from the control of the evil Human Alliance to live their lives in freedom. And, when they find that special woman? She’s coming right along with them.
1 review…11 books – 8 full length and 3 novellas – normally I would do an individual review for each book, however, I read all of these in quick succession and I wanted to save you from essentially reading the same review 11 times. The review goes something like this: Me Love Sexy Cyborgs. Repeat. As well as this, the books all followed a very similar pattern, made very apparent by the fact that I literally read them one after another, which is an endorsement in itself. However, before you have gotten a few pages in you essentially know exactly what is going to happen when, but that didn’t stop me from coming along for the ride anyways.
Like in all series, I had my favourites, my absolute favourite being Ghost of a Machine, and I had the ones I didn’t gel quite so well with. But, as each book gave me a sexy cyborg to lust over I was happy with each instalment. And dayum them cyborgs…they know how to get a lady all hot and bothered. Whether it’s by their clueless adoration, their sexy dirty talk or the mad oral skills they somehow managed to pick up I was a goner for each one of them.
So, if like me you enjoy s sexy sci-fi romance story – heavy on the sexy romance, light on the story – these books are a lot of fun. The cyborgs in it are both sweet and intense and the heroines run the gamut from sweet and submissive, sassy and impulsive, brainiacs and badasses. Now, that I have read everything out I am now itching to get my hands on the next in the series!
P.S. last time I checked Releasing Rage the first book in the series and all the novellas were free on Amazon.
OMG, the book was sooooooooooo good. When we first read a little bit about Ghost, it was in book 1. We knew very little and always wanted to know what really happened to him. Im sure a great deal of us thought he died. But nope, the Human Alliance was abusing him. He disconnected from everything to hide his pain. But when Ace and Thrasher needed him, he went to town. We pick up right where we left off in book 8. Lethe wanted to command her own ship. She, too, had her own demons. When she sees Ghost she also wants him too. These two broken souls were the best match. Lethe, believing that she didn't deserve love because of her past. Ghost believing that he has failed so many that he is not worthy.
This book will keep tugging at your heart strings all the way to the very end. I felt so happy by the end. You couldn't ask for a better ending. But we still have more Cyborg brothers out there that are looking for their female. We have to keep fighting the H.A. I cant wait till the next book. LOVE IT.
Ohmygoodness. Ghost. The cyborg who fractured himself so he didn't have to bear the heartache of all the females and children he couldn't save. The cyborg who still managed to save several of his brothers' women despite the orders he'd been given. OH, MY HEART. To say I have a massive soft spot for deeply damaged heroes who drag themselves out of the darkness is an understatement. Ghost checked off all my literary damaged hero boxes and then some.
The guy is a mess and he's hanging on by a thread when we first meet him, but he is hanging on. The appearance of his mate helps him grab a little tighter. And while Lethe might not be quite as damaged as Ghost, she also has some things she needs to work on. Namely, that when a cyborg says something is forever, she needs to trust it. Ghost will always be there for her, no matter how crossed his wires get or how damaged his body becomes. He said he would be and cyborgs don't lie.
As always, I'm LOVING these cyborgs and their utter devotion to keeping their special someone safe. They might have been manufactured to be perfect killing machines, but they have hearts and souls in their metal frames and I SUPER love that.
Another fantastic addition to the cyborg series. This was such a delight to read I was hooked from the first page and just couldn't put it down. Our story begins by retelling some of the events that happened in the previous book so that it continues in this one. Ghost our C model cyborg leading male has lead a very painful and troubled life, abused by his handler's and tormented by the things he's had to do his sanity is hanging on by a thread. He cannot take the pain any longer so he switches of his human side from the machine letting it take full control of him becoming a savage in the end a killing machine. Then enters Lethe a Rebel alliance captain who has lived through her share of pain and heartache, suffering great loss from a young age and forced to do things just so she could remain alive. She desires Ghost from the moment she hears his voice and once he sees her he utters one word which says it all 'mine'. Their passion was INTENSE, WILD and oh so HOT!! They were like animals coming together, their love making cathartic allowing them if only for a moment a respite from their pain and sorrow. They found comfort in each others arms, creating a bond between them that only grew stronger with time and that eventually grew to love. An amazing heart warming story of what the power of love can do, of two incomplete souls who bonded together to become whole and find redemption. Oh and what a SUPERB ending I was so happy with it I couldn't have asked for more I even had a stupid smile on my face while reading it. I just hope that in the next installment it's explained how the hell that happened, I mean were lead to believe it's impossible, so until then ill be patiently waiting. Also some of the previous characters make an appearance which I loved and I hope we'll be hearing more from them too as I think Safyre might have an announcement of her own to make pretty soon. I highly recommend this series a must read you wont regret.
Totally worth the wait! I fell in love with Ghost in the first novel in this series Releasing Rage. He is one of the earliest cyborg models. Kill and breed are his two functions. He carries the weight of his perceived failures on his shoulders. The Humanoid Alliance has not been kind to him, would be the most epic of understatements. Lethe, has a burden to carry as well. Losing her entire family, never getting to say goodbye and all of the things she had to do to survive eat at her everyday. These two are quite honestly a mess. All of that leads to this amazing story of love and redemption. Forgiveness and finding happiness. Amazing characters, a bit of sizzle and yes a happy ending all make for a fantastic story. If you have not read the first 8 books, you can still enjoy this one. I do however, highly recommend starting at the beginning, for a richer reading experience. All of the stories are wonderfully crafted.
This was easily one of the best of the series. Sax did so much with very little, pacing the story and development at an enjoyable level, showing instead of telling, tugging at heartstrings with involved backstory.... This book is a new level for her and I am thrilled to read it!
I loved Ghost absolutely. His connections to previous stories was a wonderful reveal, and I love his special ability as well as his personal rules about it. I believe Tefara is gonna go loopy when (if) she meets him. He again reshuffles my "favorite cyborg" deck.... I give up on picking one!
As these stories continue, we see more and more of the cyborgs and their females from previous stories, slowly building a world full of passionate beings. This is fantastic! It is very fun seeing all of them interact with each other.
Hell, Cynthia this is your best one yet. Knowing the damage done to both and how awesome the ending was, the distance travelled from beginning to end was heartbreaking, tear jerking, a wee bit of mayhem (ok a lot of blood and carnage), team work, action, adventure and a love that is all the more stronger for what they've been through. Oh and that ending surprised more than just the Cyborg's. Hmmmm now to ponder what's next in store for us, the poor unsuspecting readers, because I know it's going to be good.
Cynthia Sax never fails to give you an exciting, well crafted story. But with Ghost of a Machine she has out done herself. I got lost in the give and take between Ghost and Lethe as they formed their bond. Both learnerd from the other which in turn made them stronger as a couple.
And the ending? It was so perfect for these two souls. You'll find your self misty eyed. 5 Stars all the way!
Thank you Cynthia for giving me a new favorite cyborg. Ghost is a damaged cyborg who finds his 'Mine'. Lethe is his female. She is also the only person who is game enough to put up with him as he is. In try cyborg fashion, Ghost tries to protect Lerhe who is a strong willed female. This doesn't go down well by either of them. But they build a trust which turns into love. They are perfect for each other. I have a new favotite cyborg to love.
So very dark in the beginning as we learn about Ghost's tortured past. It broke my heart. But he was saved by the perfect woman, perfect for him. She wanted to save him and help others like her whose worlds were upended. He just wanted to keep her safe. Only they don't live in a safe world. I loved this book. I started it right before bed time, thinking I would read a chapter and finish it tomorrow. But I could not put it down until I had finished it.
I really got into this series, which surprised me, but here I am 9 books later and having to wait for the next one :( These are quick, enjoyable reads with sexy cyborgs and kick ass women.
Ghost is my favourite cyborg so far in the series. I have a soft spot for broken alpha males what can I say. Look forward to the further adventures of the cyborgs to freedom, and finding their female.
Mine! Mine, Yours, Ours ...God such simple words but oh so powerful coming from Ghost. This severely damaged cyborg and wisely equally as damaged woman come together and just simply accept. To just accept with no grand words that they can complete each other and fate can intervene when needed.
I really enjoyed this book, sweet and steamy with a small dose of action. I tend to devour books when I read, so obviously I finished this in one sitting.
Ghost was an amazing character that I just loved from start to finish. As a C-model cyborg he is an outdated model who has suffered his own horrors under the hands of the Humanoid Alliance. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I liked the broken way he spoke, to me it had a mild neanderthal feel but it made the outdated broken cyborg seem more realistic.
Lethe was a character that had been through some hardships and harbored a lot of guilt. She wasn't my absolute favorite heroine, but she wasn't the worst I've read, I thought she was average really. Sometimes her thoughts about the beginnings of her relationship with Ghost made me cringe, she really thought very little of all men and herself. She had to endure some terrible situations in order to survive and I'm glad that the author did not make her crazy jaded/antagonistic like many others do when building the stereotypical "strong" female character. This book might have gotten 5 stars if I had like Lethe more than I did, I'm not sure how else to put it other than to say I just didn't connect with her.
I loved the epilogue it was a very adorable way to end the story.
I won this in a giveway, but I will defintely be reading more by this author in the future. #GoodreadsGiveaway
I can appreciate the word play there. I feel impressed and let down by the anime the author pulled their inspired name from, and in a way I’m of the same mind with this one, but for different reasons.
Firstly, I thought that there was a novella about the child that these two had, but I was lead astray by an image that shouldn’t have been posted. I’m sure at the time it was done in excitement, but now it makes you think other things and spoils the epilogue. We actually got one and it’s a good and worry some bit of info.
I do understand where Ghost is coming from, but he has to calm down and his behavior will negatively impact his family in the near future if he doesn’t get his fears under control.
If you read my last review that told you about the author’s website and the novellas that you can only get there, you know about the spoiler image for this book.
I had hopes when I saw the epilogue that he had gotten better in whatever time jump just happened, but it wasn’t to be. It almost seems as if the writer might have doubled down on his reaction to other cyborgs. The one set of beings he should be ok with.
This may be the first time I’m completely cool with the girl half of this story, even if she almost got them killed. I don’t think I disagreed with anything she did.
So what score does this book get? I’m asking myself that at the end of the review, but that is the first thing you saw. :D
I ended up giving this book a better score than I was first thinking of and that is due to the hope I have that he does get better. ❤️🩹
Somewhere out there is a cyborg romance that I will like....I just need to keep looking.
Ghost has been dormant for years, with only his tortured memories for company. When his Humanoid Alliance ship is attacked by a Rebel ship, he's rescued by Lethe, a formidable pilot who somehow senses his misery and isolation, and decides that Ghost is worth saving. Ghost isn't sure what to make of her -- she's unlike any female he's known -- but something tells him that she's 'his,' and that it's his duty to protect her no matter the cost to himself. Lethe is surprised to find herself falling hard for the powerful and determined cyborg. Alone since her teen years, Lethe's never had anyone who cared about her, so she's overwhelmed by her reaction to Ghost's need to keep her safe from harm. However, even as they have hot and sexy times aboard their ship, they're drawn into the ongoing battle with the Alliance, who wants them both dead.
It's all pretty much utterly conventional 'Cyborg insta-lust for for human girl' with very predicable results. Yes, you feel bad for both Ghost and Lethe -- they've both been alone with terrible memories of their losses. But...somehow they're able to have mind-blowing sex anyway. So there's that.
Gotta say...Ghost's definitely the silent type -- which isn't bad when you consider that when he does talk, his sentences are two words long. I wonder how long Lethe will think that's cute and sexy?
Lethe is an officer on a mission in space when she first encounters the berserk, out of control and heavily damaged cyborg, Ghost. He has violently torn apart everyone in close proximity and is literally covered in blood, guts and gore, the metal frame of his skeleton showing and shouting "Ours" and "Mine" robotically over and over. So OF COURSE, she has a profound and instantaneous physical reaction to this sight when she first lays eyes on him. By the third chapter they are going at it, as the cyborg has been programmed to transfer his nanocybotic semen to human females (but since his brain is organic, he also possesses traits beyond this biological imperative and is aroused by her feminine scent and form). That's pretty much the plot. For the rest of the book a (little bit) of space adventure and a (lot) of sex ensue. Every time they are together, they think the same things and say the same things throughout the whole book. "Mine." "Yes, I'm yours." "Protect." "Yes, you protect me." "Always." "Yes, I will be with you always." "Breed." "Yes, I want to breed." Plentiful detailed sex scenes that are fairly repetitive.
Ghost has trapped himself in his own mind, and done it so that he can't remember all his failures. It was his mission to keep the females for his brother cyborgs alive, but it wasn't always possible.
Lethe survived her planet being bombed, but it didn't leave her unscathed. She had to do things that she wasn't proud of, and they make her feel guilty and worthless.
When these two broken beings get together, are they going to be able to help each other heal and make their HEA?
Such a great story. I think that it may be the most emotional, at least for me. The angst and sorrow and pain that both Lethe and Ghost have gone through and still manage to be functional is amazing to me. I love that Lethe is the name of the river in he'll that makes you forget, and while Lethe doesn't make Ghost forget, he uses memories of her to try to overwrite some of the bad memories. I don't know if Cynthia did it on purpose, but I love it anyway.
Ghost and Lethe are just so likable. It wasn’t until Ghost’s understandable but overwhelming desire to keep her safe that the book kind of left me wishing for something more.
But seriously, are female cyborgs a thing or not. They haven’t been mentioned since the first book so I figured the were scrapped from the series.
Yes it bothers me, I’m just so curious, what were they even created for? The male cyborgs seem to have everything covered, including being raped and tortured by sadistic human alliance members. So what’s led for the female cyborgs?
And considering Ghost’s ability a lot more questions are raised, and it seems to add credibility to female cyborgs not being a real thing, but then the end happens.
So now is Fingers crossed the next book sheds more light on this.
Series: Cyborg Sizzle #7 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
Ghost is the most damaged cyborg from the series so far. He can barely talk and struggles to articulate his feelings. He is easily angered and extremely overprotective. He is one of my favorite cyborgs because of this. I love a damaged hero. Lethe is a strong female who has had to do terrible things to survive. It haunts her and pushes her to save as many people as she can. I really liked both of these characters.
The Humanoid Alliance is also slowly being destroyed. More cyborgs are free and more mates are being found. Hopefully we see more of Ghost in future books, especially since he can detect cyborg mates.
Ghost has lost a part of himself and is having a hard time communicating to his female what he wants or needs. He knows that he must protect her at all costs because he had not done that with other females before. He failed many times before and he was not going to fail again. Lethe was prepared for the Cyborg Ghost to be a bit brutal and rough when she first encountered him but she was not prepared for her reaction towards him. Lethe wanted him from the beginning and slowly began to understand him and his damage. They built trust, then caring and finally love. Now they just have to stay alive so they can have a future together.
This book was totally bonkers. Granted, I haven't read widely in this subgenre, but to me it seemed to bring magic peen to a new level.
This is a story about two very traumatized people learning how to trust again. There is a lot of blood and gore and battle, and also fucking with basically no foreplay. Also what felt to me like dubious consent. It wasn't to my taste, but I kept reading for the sheer bonkersness of it.
Content warning for war, memories of torture and trauma, and on-page brutality.
Ghost and Lethe (aka .Mine) what an emotionally charged story. Two souls thought damaged beyond repair find themselves connected by the invisible bonds of fated mates. They understand one another better than anyone else ever has, this love and devotion to each other begins a healing process that end with a beautiful gift. Beautifully told I really love this series.
First I want to give my apologies for it taking so long to finish this book, it had nothing to do with the book and everything to do with my schedule. With that being said, this book is captivating with a mix of thrill & suspense. I love the balance of the different aspects throughout. Ghost and Lethe complimented each other with their strengths and passion, not just for each other but for their dedication to help others. What they considered as failures only made them stronger. They learned to adapt to the situations they lived through, not by choice but by force. Everything changed for them when they found each other, which makes this story that much more beautiful. The hardships they shared, the struggles only bonded them more. This book had me in happy tears by the ending, so now I must go on and read the rest of the books in this series.
I want to thank the author for this book giveaway, I was lucky enough to win a copy and I feel blessed by doing so. My review is not reflected by the win but by the quality of the author’s writing skill, the plot, the characters and the story itself. Thank you Cynthia Sax for a brilliant read! #GoodreadsGiveaway
