Her Royal Duty #1

If the Ring Fits...

Rate this book
The legend said the prince had to marry the woman the engagement ring fit....

Nonsense. Prince Richard de Thierry didn't believe in magic...or in true love. That didn't stop every female visitor to his kingdom from trying on the "enchanted" ring. Luckily, it fit no one. That is, until accident-prone American heiress, Christina Armstrong tried it on and it got stuck!

This was nice, the hero Prince Richard doesn't believe in the legend of the Ring as all his subjects do. According to the legend, if the prince is not married by the age of 30, the ring will find his true love and can only be removed if both of them fall for each other and this time the ring fits Christina, an American Heiress and Richard's nightmare because he tried really hard to find a bride and he thought he had but she dumped him and she was an American and then there is Christina and her klutziness.

He tries to hide her but the news gets out and Christina agrees she does not want to marry him, all her life she's been the odd one in her family, hounded by the press, she only wants a common simple life and marrying a prince doesn't fit that, so they try everything to remove the ring and fail and along the way Christina starts believing in it, not that it stops her from trying to find Richard a bride, but love prevails.

I quite enjoyed it, it was short and fun, even if the hero seemed stuffy in the beginning.

Once upon a time, there lived a prince who could not find a bride. Fearing the family line would end, the princes mother gave him an enchanted ring that would fit only his one true love. Maidens traveled
from near and far to try on the ring, but to no avail. Then, one day, the daughter of a visiting merchant slipped the ring onto her finger—a perfect fit. Upon the royal wedding, the prince fell in love with his
princess bride, and his marriage thrived. Untold prosperity, happiness and peace befell the citizens of his country. And all lived happily ever after.

As the years passed, the legend of the royal engagement ring evolved and became tradition. To this day, if the ruling or crown prince has not wed by his thirtieth year, unwed females of marriageable age are encouraged to try on the ring. If the ring fits, within seven days the prince must marry the woman wearing it, or abdicate the throne.
And our story begins...

Prince Richard de Thierry of San Montico dosn't believe it. He doesn't believe in magic, true love, everlasting happiness, everything that connected with the legend of the ring. He's a crown prince with a duty, which is to bring his country and his people to modernization. No more myths and legends. But he's turning thirty, not married yet, and San Montico needs an heir. In other words, he's running out of time. He needs to find a proper wife immediately, and by himself. He would show to his family and his people that the legend is nothing but nonsense. A marriage based on mutual respect with a woman he'll choose will prove it. That is, of course, before an accident-prone rich girl known as Christina Armstrong walks into his royal birthday party. And ruins it all.

The last thing Christina needs when she visits the royal palace of San Montico is another disaster. She might be a daughter of a billionaire CEO and a member of the second most famous family in America. But troubles follow her everywhere, even in the white house. When the prince's advisor asks her to try on the gorgeous ring, she never thought it would be a problem. So she simply tries it. The ring fits, and stuck. It's all she needs to bring Prince Richard's nightmare into reality.

Richard and Christina agree in one thing, they both want the ring off her finger. Christina has never wanted to be a princess. She wants a normal life and perhaps someday, a normal family. Richard also makes his point clear, he would never give up to the legend. So both of them work together. They try all the possible ways to prevent the wedding. But somewhere between those efforts to released the ring, they fall in love.

I've read some romance books with cinderella theme. If the Ring FIts was my favorite. Melissa McClone was being very 'polite' in writing this book so there are no sex scenes. Still I enjoyed the romance so much. Richard is arrogant and bossy, he's also a charming hero. Christina is a total disaster maker, but she's a wonderful heroine. Their relationship was so much fun and very sweet. This book made me laughed a lot from the first page. It was a short and simple modern cinderella version of romance story, but it was a good one.

"You must marry Prince Richard in a week or he loses his throne," Didier said. "He will be forced to abdicate in favor of his uncle, the marquess."
Christina gasped. "That's...that's silly."
Marguerite laughed. "Richard, she is simply adorable. A bit outspoken, but we can work on that."
"Work on what?" Christina took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "I admit it's a romantic tale, Your Highness, but we're not living in the Middle Ages. People don't get married because of an old legend. I've
never heard anything more ridiculous."
Beauty and brains, a potent combination that had burned him before. Still, her resistance to the legend made Richard smile. "I could not agree more, Christina."
If only he could count on her resistance to a wedding. But once she realized a title and a kingdom accompanied the marriage vows, she would be singing a different tune.
"At least they agree on something." Alan grinned. "That's a good start."
"The ring does not fit," Richard said, feeling as though he had to keep repeating the phrase over and over again in order for the others to comprehend it Marguerite waved his words aside. "The ring has chosen Christina."
"No, Mother. It is stuck."
Christina nodded her agreement.
"Children, children. Don't you see? It's supposed to fit that way," Marguerite explained. "The ring is not stuck. Once you fall in love, it will come off. You must wed."
Christina looked like a butterfly caught in a net. Would she manage to escape unharmed? Would he? She stared at her father. "How can I marry him, Daddy?"
"You simply say 'I do,' sweetheart."

This was a fun read.
We meet Prince Richard and he knows his royal duties but it doesn't mean he has to like some of the obligations or believe in a myth. He is coming on 30 and is still to marry, so his mother organises a ball, where every singel woman there must try on the family engagemen tring. If the ring fits then Richard must marry the lady in a week!!
Christina Armstrong is very accident prone but somehow her father has received an invitation to the ball. She doesn't really want to go but here she is. She finds a quiet place and is happliy watching when Prince Richard's aid and best friend persuades her to try the ring on and Oh Yes it Fits.
This is the story of Rcihard and Christina trying to figure a way out of this marriage but could they really be falling in love?

I really enjoyed this book, the characters were well written, with a fun plotline. I will be carrying on with this series.

The Accidental Princess, the first book in Her Royal Duty series, kicks off with a little bit of romance and a whole lot of magic! Love is in the air in San Montico and it all has to do with the royal family’s enchanted engagement ring. Legend has it that anyone who the engagement ring fits is destined to marry the future king, and everyone but Prince Richard believes in the legend. Richard is ready to bring San Montico into the 21st century, leaving old ideologies behind, and feels he has the right to choose whom he marries and not have an enchanted ring pick for him. He also has a conundrum: he has to marry by his 21st birthday or forfeit the throne. No matter how hard he’s tried he cannot find “the one” and quickly finds himself at a crossroads.

At his royal birthday party, Prince Richard meets Christina Armstrong, an American heiress whose klutzy reputation precedes her. When she tries on the ring and it won’t come off Christina feels like she has committed the ultimate blunder, especially when her first meeting with Prince Richard didn’t go so great. This sets in motion a chain of events that neither Richard nor Christina could’ve possibly imagined, making them both wonder if there is truly magic in the ring.

From the beginning Prince Richard rubbed me the wrong way. He comes across as incredibly selfish and closed-minded, and there were even times I felt predatory vibes from him, which was off-putting. Though he does start to redeem himself as the story progressed I never could quite shake my dislike of him.

Christina, on the other hand, has a heart of gold, so it was easy to fall in love with her. Doing every crazy thing the prince asked her to in an attempt to remove the ring without question says so much about her character, though I do wish she would’ve fought him just a little bit more, and had just a touch more sass.

The part that I knew I was enchanted myself was when Richard and Christina visit the children’s hospital and Christina helps the little girl with her drawing for the prince. Both Richard and Christina show their compassionate sides and this is when I could see a true change in the prince, which was a welcome change for me. From then on I couldn’t put this novel down, as I had to see if the ring could truly work it’s magic, and make these two open their eyes to what is right in front of them.

Melissa McClone has done it again! I’m not normally one for stories that involve royalty but I was smitten with this Cinderella-inspired story. The characters are down to earth and engaging, and it’s a quick story that you can easily get swept away in.

*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.

Christina and Richard’s story in The Accidental Princess by Melissa McClone, book one in Her Royal Duty series, is an entertaining story with romance and a little bit of magic. This was a enjoyable story about an enchanted engagement ring, a skeptical prince and a klutzy American heiress.

While the whole kingdom of San Montico believed the legend of that the girl that was destined to marry the King would have the ring fit- the prince himself refused to choose a bride based on a legend he didn't want to believe. As his birthday approached he had to choose a bride or forfeit his kingdom. A royal birthday party was held to bring all of the potential brides to take a chance trying on the ring. Christina Armstrong’s introduction to His Serene Highness Prince Richard de Thierry of San Montico did not go well, with her nervousness, klutziness. When she is forced to try on the ring, she is mortified that she can’t get it off. She believes she did something wrong. Richard is shocked when he learns of the situation, as he would never choose her for his bride. The two of them have one week to find a way to get the ring off of her finger or they will be forced to marry. Richard had been hurt by a scheming female and believes that all women want him only for the role of Princess; this makes him act like a jerk towards Christina, who has no interest in marrying a prince. Both are on the same page of not wishing to marry each other but as they spend more time together and their families conspire to have them fall in love, fate also steps in. Christina is such an amazing person who only wants to be accepted and loved for who she is. Richard and Christina were an unlikely couple but they were a perfect fit in the end; even if it does take a little magic for them to see it.

Ms. McClone wrote a wonderfully sweet and heartwarming story that is not to be missed. This story contains clever banter, the magic of love, and endearing characters as we follow Richard and Christina’s unusual journey from first meet to falling in love. I highly recommend The Accidental Princess to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.

Didn’t finish half way through. It’s okay but a little clunky. It’s repeated so many times about how the prince thinks the legend of the ring is nonsense. He is monologuing about it constantly from his pov and Christina also says it a lot. It was repetitive.

I liked Christina and liked that she was clumsy and kinda different, but she somehow was still kind of dull. Maybe it was more the writing that was a little dull. The prince was also fine, but also a bit forgettable too. I almost stopped reading earlier, the first time Richard and Christina are alone together right after first meeting, and Richard starts coming onto Christina in his room. Wanting to sleep with her. It just comes across as so entitled. Like the second he gets alone with a woman he should at least get sex out of it. I think this because he doesn’t even like Christina. He says it multiple times even though he’s only met her once. But yet, she’s good enough to sleep with? I guess all it takes for him is a pretty face. It just cheapens the whole romance. And makes it feel not as special.

Also, the way the whole ring thing is done feels unbelievable. So the ring doesn’t fit any girl? Really? Except for Christina? And then it really doesn’t come off? Okay I can suspend the believability in order to just go along with the story, but then they try and cut it off and the blade breaks a bunch of times? Really? I don’t know, maybe if the story was more interesting and just overall more intriguing I wouldn’t mind the unbelievability of the situation, but it’s just not doing enough for me. We have both points of view so there’s no wondering or mystery there because we know what both are thinking about everything the whole time. They both keep thinking about how attracted they are to the other or that they want to kiss or whatever but then berate themselves right after for thinking that way. Which gets repetitive too and is the most unoriginal and boring way to show that the two are starting to like each other.

There just wasn’t a lot happening and the relationship seemed too easy, too fast, and too predictable.

Such a fun story to read with a legend of a magical engagement ring. When the ring fits the woman that the prince would never choose for a bride the two of them have one week to find a way to get the ring off of her finger or they will be forced to marry.

Prince Richard de Thierry wants his nation to move away from the legends of the past that are holding them back as a nation. His mother is intent on his marrying and giving her grandchildren. He just wants to find his own bride who will love him for himself. His heart was already crushed by an American Heiress who toyed with him then dumped him to marry a king. When it is another American heiress that is found with the ring on her finger which refuses to come off, he wants nothing to do with her.

Christina Armstrong, grew up in an affluent family but has never quite fit in with her parents lifestyle. She is accident prone and the media loves to embellish the things that have happened to her. It is her desire to move to a small town and find a cowboy or other hard working man to marry. She wants someone that will
love her and be there for any family they have. When she is asked to try on the ring she has no idea of the legend. When she finds out she is expected to marry the prince, she works to find him another bride. Anything to not have to be in the position of being married to royalty with all of the limelight.

This was the first story I have read in this series. Watching these two get to really know one another as they both tried to get of the marriage was enjoyable.

It's the Birthday Ball for Prince Richard de Thierry of San Montico and he really just wants to escape from it. All of the single women attending are there to try on 'The Royal Engagement Ring', if it doesn't come off, she is supposedly his perfect match. He's tired of wealthy, spoiled, heiresses who only want the title. He also doesn't believe in the legend of the ring, unfortunately everyone in his country does.

Christina Armstrong is a US heiress, her father escorted her to this ball at her mother's insistence. She's always in the press for doing something that happens because she's clumsy. It starts with colliding heads with the prince, then managing to remove the gauntlet off ancient armor. Far worse is yet to happen.

Didier Alois, Prince Richard's royal advisor, is making sure these women try on the ring, and Christina is not going to escape that. Didier insists she try on the ring, and she's flippant about it, asking if there's a prize or something. Little does she know what's in store for her and the prince.

Now the ring isn't coming off Christina's finger, and Prince Richard knows he can't keep it hidden for long. Christina has no idea of the legend at least not yet.

Things take a rapid turn when the entire kingdom starts preparing for the wedding. All Christina and Richard can think about is getting the ring off her finger, but they both had to attend to royal duties in between. The clincher is they both want to bring his kingdom into the future, but the ring and its legend will always be a part of it.

This is such fun as these two gradually start to like each other and fall in love.

I loved this book! Yes, it is a predictable story, but there is an interesting storyline and the characters will draw you in from the start. Prince Richard and Christine are characters that you can’t help but route for. This is the first book in this series and can be read as a standalone story.

Prince Richard is determined to run the country in a new modern way. He promised his father that he would make it happen. His 30th birthday has arrived and with it the legend of the ring looms over him.

Christine is an heiress visiting from America with her father and they are guests for the prince’s birthday. She is known in the States for her uncanny ability to find disaster wherever she goes. The press loves to seek her out and spread her clumsiness all over their news outlets. She just wants a simple life with love, peace and quiet.

This is a twist on a Cinderella story, but in this version it is a ring that fits the would be Princess. Of course Christine gets the ring stuck, they spend the story trying to get it off, fall for each other and the rest is history. Richard is a bit stuffy at first, but as you get to know him he is sweet and longs for the love he never knew he was capable of. Christine knows what she wants from the start and her sass and independence draw Richard to her.

I really enjoyed this story and the characters. It was a quick read that let me get lost in the romance of a princess story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Accidental Princess was a great read by Melissa McClone. Prince Richard de Thierry of San Montico believes legends and love are relics of the past. The last thing he wants to do is attend a royal birthday ball in his honor, but he knows that duty calls. He encounters an accident prone American heiress, Christina Armstrong. He immediately dislikes her and wants to avoid her the rest of the night. She is desperate to escape the spotlight but ends up getting the royal engagement ring stuck on her finger. The legend surrounding the ring claims that the Prince must marry the woman who wears the ring or else he must abdicate. They are both determined to defy the legend. Christina's charm and kindness bring a breathe of fresh air into the royal court. They have undeniable chemistry, but must keep their distance as everyone pushes them together. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Richard understands that he needs to marry to assume control of his country and that time is running out however a grand ball with women vying to be his wife by trying on a ring is not what he wants. The situation only becomes that much more unappealing when he sees the woman who is a perfect fit for the ring.

The last place that Christina wants to be is at a ball seeing if she is destined to be Richard’s wife as she is not suited for this life, and it is not the life she wants. Now that she finds herself in this situation they find themselves spending time together and in the beginning she wanted to leave but now she isn’t so sure.

Neither Richard nor Christina thought they were a good match however fate and their hearts have other ideas.

I enjoyed this book. It was interesting to see a bit of magic woven into a royal romance.

I found Christina utterly charming! She seemed like the girl next door, and I couldn’t help but root for her and her happiness. Prince Richard wasn’t as easy to like. He was very resistant and not open to the possibility of finding his perfect match through the ring.

It was clear that both Richard and Christina were dealing with riotous feelings and emotions. It was as they both started to realize what their true feelings were that this story excelled!.

I loved this delightful and heartwarming read that immediately pulled me into the middle of all that was happening and kept me glued to the book until I read the last word. I was enamored with klutzy and adorable American heiress Christina Armstrong and enjoyed her dynamic with the other characters especially Prince Richard of San Montico. Ms. McClone never disappoints whatsoever and has given us another must-read that will leave a smile on your face and joy in your heart. Don't miss The Accidental Princess. I adored this book and read it in one day. The writing was well done, the story was fun and the characters well developed with even some quirky ones that really added a unique appeal. It is the first book in a royalty series but can be read as a stand alone without feeling cheated. I am however, going to jump to the next book for as I noted previously the characters are excellent and I want to see where life takes some of those introduced in this book.

I really enjoyed reading this entertaining, sweet, clever & charming romance.
Prince Richard, of San Montico,
is celebrating his 30th birthday.
It's also time for him to choose
a bride. There is also a legend
that if a woman tries on the
Royal engagement ring & it
fits, they are the person he is
to marry.
But of course, the one person
he wants to avoid, is the American heiress. Christina, tries on the ring.
And now it won't come off.
A good start to this new series.
Look forward to reading Book 2!

Richard didn’t want his country’s magical ring to find him a bride especially not an accident prone one. He was rough with Christina and willing to sleep with her but not anything more. She doesn’t want to be pressured into marriage especially to someone who started out not very charming. In their quest to remove the ring or find him an alternative bride they become friends and maybe something more. I couldn’t believe either of them considered removing her finger. Their relationship develops fast.

A modern-day Cinderella story, but with a ring, and a legend, and a little bit of magic. I had a hard time putting this book down! The characters had depth and you really felt for our heroine, the girl who seemed to have everything but she just wanted a simple life and to be loved and accepted for who she was. They both learned that first impressions aren’t always true and you should get to know someone before you judge them.

This was such a sweet fairy tale type story.  I liked the legend of the ring and how every lady invited to the ball  for Prince Richards, thirtieth birthday ball, had to try on the ring to see if it was a perfect fit.
Christina was a fun character who was quite clumsy.  She was at the ball when Didier, the prince's advisor, told her she had to try on the ring.  The only problem was the ring was stuck. I enjoyed reading the fun story and seeing how the Prince and Christina would solve their dilemma.  I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

A royal romance with a hint of magic. A long time legend of who ever fits the ring will marry the prince. Christina finds herself trying on the ring and now it is stuck, Prince Richard is not happy about the predicament as his mother starts planning the royal wedding. The ring will only come off when true love is found.

Loved the build of the sweet romance from enemies to their HEA. I fell in love with their banter and Christina klutziness. A quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed. This is book one of Her Royal Duty.

Charming!

I admit I enjoy royal romance sometimes! Lots of movies and books are readily available! The usual trope has a wicked step mother, a pathetic desperate wanna be girlfriend and a perfectly adorable young woman who loves the prince as a person! The reverse gender scenario is available sometimes, also!
The plotline of a magic ring was unique and fun! Christina and Richard both so genuine and sincere about breaking the legend and marrying for love!
You dear reader chose this story for a reason! The HEA!
Enjoy!

I was surprised at the crazy ride that this story took me on. I never expected a romance to be so complicated. Two people thrown together by fate who deny their growing attraction to each other until the very end.

The story is enjoyable although I found it frustrating many times. But this genre is not the usual one I read. Maybe I need more experience, but nevertheless the storyteller deserves kudos for keeping me very interested and wanting to read more and more as fast as I could. Well done Ms. McClone!

The Accidental Princess
Melissa McClone

Review by Author Roy Murry

Christina is the daughter of a wealthy father who coerces her to attend a royal party in the middle of the Mediterranean. Prince Richard will be the king of that country if he marries the one who can fit in the royal engagement ring, part of a crazy country's historical mystic.

Neither person likes what they believe the other person's moral and ethical qualities meet their needs. An event brought about by his Royal Aid put Richard and Christina on a quest to find the prince, the princess with the qualities he desires.

The calamities and amusing incidents that follow make for good reading. This novel, however, is not Hallmark movie grade but fills a Royal Romance lover's imagination.

This was such a good book! Christina is accident prone and her accidents precede her when she meets Prince Richard. Richard seems like a snob and is kind of rude when he first meets Christina. His best friend gets Christina to try the royal engagement ring on. When the ring won't come off Richard and Christina decide to find a suitable bride for Richard. With the pressure off of her, Christina relaxes and gets to know Richard. They get along really well. This was a sweet book! Watching Christina and Richard realize what they both really want in a partner. Such a good series!

What a great story! I don’t read a lot of stories about royalty, but I’m glad I read this one and am looking forward to the next one. These royals are folks I could relate to. Christina is such a dear person who only wants to be accepted and loved for herself. Isn’t that what we all want? She and Richard are perfect together, even if it does take a little magic for them to see it. I loved both the characters and the storyline. I received an ARC of this book, but my opinion is my own.

A sweet Cinderella like story! The book is a quick read and is very enjoyable. I love that it reinforces that first impressions are not always true. I've liked the other stories in the princess series by this author and this one was great too. I liked Christina a lot. Richard was a bit harder to like, but by the end of the book I liked him a lot. There were hints of Cinderella in the story, and I truly enjoyed this book. I received an advance copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was such a magical read. I found the story to be fun, entertaining, and very sweet. I thought Christina and Richard were a perfect match but in the beginning they did not think so. All Christina wanted was for someone to love her for who she was and in a way Richard just wanted the same thing. I fell in love with their story and I would highly recommend it.

He needs to marry or all his plans and ideas will be for nothing. But what he never wants is an American selfish woman. But ‘the’ ring decides different. Now time is running out to remove the ring of the woman who’s not right for him. Or was the ring wiser than them?

Fun entertaining story if you are a fan of fairytales, I enjoyed it.
