Men may be flocking from all over Japan to try to steal a kiss from the wealthy young Benio, but she has the great ninja Tamaki there to protect her! The two of them don’t always get along, but so far, everything has worked out one way or another. However, when Tamaki’s ex shows up, trouble appears to be on the horizon. The lady and her ninja will get a lot closer in volume two!
Yep, it’s another round of shuriken shenanigans as Benio continues to cause trouble, get duped, plummet from great heights, and... get married!? All while Tamaki toils away to protect her from herself (and everybody else).
This series is like a manga sorbet I dig into between books when I want something I will enjoy, but will be off my palette seconds after finishing. Literally the only person who doesn’t realize Tamaki is Benio’s first love is Benio herself - it is as Point A to Point B as shojo gets.
For her part, Benio remains very tsundere for most of this volume, but she is so insanely willful (to her credit and detriment) that she’s a lot of why I like this story. Sure she goes to extremes, but that’s an unfathomably sheltered upbringing for you, I guess? She is here to live her life her way and consequences be damned.
One thing I particularly enjoy about this series is that it (perhaps unsurprisingly for a story whose whole point is ‘high school but ninjas’) has no trouble doing whatever it wants to have fun or get its characters into or out of trouble.
An 18 year old genius who graduated Harvard but now wants to attend basic-ass Japanese high school? Why not? Tamaki’s taking on a helicopter? Sure! We’re playing tag for Tamaki’s life? Whatever! Benio makes herself the target of every man in Japan? Just another day at school for these two...
I’m also super fascinated by series that had a scheduled and logical end but then get strung out into more volumes. This was supposed to be the finale for our pair and the way they walk back the ending is the most hilariously on-brand ‘screw you’ to the audience via zoom-in and basically a shrug of ‘whatever’.
I’m okay with it - I’ll happily take another couple volumes with these two, which is about where I figure the gas will be firmly out of the tank.
I don’t love the art, but I will call out one great moment where a safe is opened and FWOOSH happens and it’s quite lovely. I wish they had done a full page for that one, it deserved it. Otherwise it’s standard stuff.
I still can’t believe this book was originally published in 2016. It’s the literary equivalent of a Charleston Chew - it feels dated (possibly even stale), but there’s still an inherent sweetness around it and there’s a reason they keep making them. Fun, but inessential, reading.
Even more exciting than the first with lots of dramatics and a happy ending!
I deeply enjoyed this second volume and really enjoyed how we had a new character (or two) to cause some "problems" for our main leads. I feel with every new character we meet, they are always different and unique, making the story even more engaging.
I was definitely surprised by the happy ending, but absolutely loved it! I'm super curious as to where this series is going to go next because I never know what's going to happen next, but know for certain I'll have a wonderful time reading!
Alurnya bisa dibilang sangat cepat, tidak berlarut-larut sangat to the point walau konfliknya mutar sana-sini.
Jadi sangat nostalgia.
I thought it was cute, really I did. But I got very annoyed that first she kept claiming she didnt like him, and yet kept stalking him. Girl, if you dont like the boy, PROVE IT. Dont pay him no mind. If you DO like him, stop being a brat and yelling all the time and own up to it. Which eventually she did but....even that was disappointing because she ended up BEGGING him not to leave her! If someone truly loves you, they wouldn't leave you! No need to humiliate youself girl, have some dignity, geez. If he'd fought for her, and I don't mean physically, I would have liked it more. They needed to go half half. I dont mind when a girl asks a boy out, I didn't care when she did it in the first volume but I hate when girls beg for mens attention who don't even treat them right. All he does is make fun of her and flirt, if he showed his true feelings more, would've been 10x better.
Benio is the heiress of the richest family in Japan, and tradition holds that she must marry the first person to kiss her. So that she can attend high school, Benio is assigned the ninja Tamaki as a bodyguard, but he turns out to be quite the player.
It's not always easy for a strong-willed rich girl and a smart-alecky ninja to get along in this romantic comedy about a pure young lady and her smoking-hot knight.
Bukan cangkir teh saya. Itu saja sih masalahnya. Dan mungkin juga masalah usia? LOL. Saya udah gak cocok lagi sama cerita-cerita romance macam gini. Langsung kepikiran "Di dunia nyata, ini gak mungkin terjadi. Ini gak masuk akal, dll."
Extremely cute, sweet, and fun. The repetitive nature of volume one is broken in volume two where we got a lot of movement between the main two characters. And the bonus story was really very cute. I am eating this up.
