Another Suzy Quinn making being pregnant a "This could not happen" funny read. Finding out she is pregnant Juliette spends nine months encountering everything that could go wrong. The Daddy to be Nick is her major stumbling block because he is almost 40 - -mostly unemployed, happy to be renting from his mother, and spends his time drinking. A humorous tale of two adults not ready for parenthood but destiny throwing that ball into their bassinet. "A copy of this book was provided by author with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read and comments here are my honest opinion."
This story is well-written but is not my taste. Fundamentally, it is a diary of an immature woman and her immature mama's boy boyfriend and what happens to them when begin their unplanned pregnancy. No surprises here.
I had been searching for some funny British women’s fiction after I finished the excellent “Posh Frocks and Peacocks” by Tracie Podger. I am so glad that I found this “Bad Mother’s Pregnancy” audiobook because it is very entertaining. I love hearing this funny London lady's perspective on life, and I plan to listen to the rest of the series soon. Important note: this book is listed on Audible as fourth in the series, but it happened first in the timeline. This one is a 1.5-hour short story that is a diary of Juliette’s first pregnancy. The story is not romantic because Juliette’s boyfriend Nick is an immature, unreliable loser. Juliette is unexpectedly pregnant at 29, and this is her lively, sarcastic view of the process and her life. Her friend Althea is a real hoot. There is a bunch of good-natured cursing and a few sexual references, but I think it was a lovely amount that matches Juliette’s colorful personality.
The narrator, Imogen Church, did a solid job. All of her English accents and the California accent are perfect. She brings excellent enthusiasm, emotions, and pacing that brought the story to this first-person perspective to life.
I requested and received a free audiobook copy via #AudiobookObsession, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.
This short story is a prequel to the Bad Mother series, a series I have thoroughly enjoyed (just got one to read now - Detox)
It revolves around Juliette who is Dating Nick and then finds herself pregnant. It wasn't planned and whereas Jules is realistic and ready to accept the challenge of motherhood Nick reverts to being a big baby himself and does proper man-panic.
The book is written in the form of a diary which makes it very easy to read. I would think anyone who has ever been pregnant would relate to most of the things Juliette goes through. Anyone who has had an idiot for a boyfriend would relate too. Her friends, the selfish Sadie and the self-styled earth mother Althea (with her offspring Wolfgang..........a child anyone would be grateful not to have) are in there as are her pub living nutty family.
I love them all and would thoroughly recommend this book and all that follow.
This hook was mildly amusing. However, if I compare it to Adrian Mole books there is no comparison. And we have a working woman and you hear nothihg about work friends or workihg life. The one friend we hear about is the annoying Althea who I found was rude for no reason. Her partner talks about moving up North and cheaper living costs but there is no talk about her not having a job if they move so do we assume she plans to leave work and live off her lazy partner? Also a kindle book with location markers and no page numbers and non XRaynfacility irritates me. Bridget Jones and Adrian Mole are endearing but I coukd not find any endearing features in the diarist in this book.
If you have ever been pregnant, and you need a laugh, this novella is for you! Suzy K Quinn has written this prequel to the Bad Mother's series, this starts out Juliette's adventure to motherhood! Her unexpected pregnancy will take you all the way through her nine months of worry, morning sickness, life expectations and make you laugh. In my case, I remembered all the things she went through, and can now laugh at! Her boyfriend Nick just adds to the chaos and the listen is hysterical. Imogen Church brings this to life with her wit and comedic timing. It's a listen you sure do not want to miss!
I chose 5 star as Suzy Quinn, has yet again, delivered an amazing BAD MOTHERS DIARY. The highs and lows of pregnancy are exactly how I felt during my pregnancies, and to see it written down in such a hilarious, but serious way is fantastic. These BAD MOTHER'S DIARIES are awesome and I just can't wait to hear what will happen next!!
This book is very funny for anyone who is or has been pregnant. It follows a mother through all the crazy stages. It is more a comedy on pregnancy versus a romance but was a fun read. The narration was good but the accent was a bit thick at times backing it harder to understand but all in all, great job. Fun short read!
Fabulous short read/ listen with so many lol moments. Made me think back to before I had my first child many moons ago... this was the perfect listen for getting over a child induced illness 🤣😂 go figure. Will definitely look out for more reads listens from this author.
Read this book after laughing so hard at Suzy's own trials of motherhood, which brought back so many awesome memories of my own first journey into motherhood. This story again for me reaching for the tissues to wipe away the giggle tears, can't wait for the next book in chapter. Thanks Suzy x
This is a prequel to the other 2 bad mother books although I read it afterwards! It takes you on the journey of Juliette's pregnancy and makes for hilarious reading.
Loved this as much as the other 2 books.
I soooo neeed the next instalment! I'm already suffering withdrawal symptoms!! Lol
This is the Prequel to Bad Mothers Diary and it is fab! It's only a short story but I was straight in to download the next two books! Very, humorous and all moms out there will be able to relate!
A great account of someone’s life through pregnancy the stresses worries and funny little quirks along the way iota the first instalment of 5 books I think can’t wait to read number 2!!
Laugh out loud funny! I could relate to everything Juliette went through during the pregnancy and remembering it all now made the book even funnier! Loved the diary style it is written in and cannot wait to read more from Suzy K Quinn!
I didn't find this novel funny. The story is cute and all, but the funny parts are the way it was told and the narration (which was great and actually made me laugh). I probably don't have a sense of humor to get the humor in this book, it's not the books fault really.
OMG, this was my first pregnancy but second birth. While reading it, I had giggles cause it reminded me of my pregnancy. Loved it. Can't wait for more....... Bad Mothers Diary that is.....not pregnancies
Book was alright not too shabby. Was a little short and a lot more could have been added to make it greater. All in all for a short storey it wasn’t too bad. :)
