Almost destitute, Lilly has run out of hope when she inherits her great-aunt’s home -- but it’s not the Tea Shop that a handsome young gentleman thinks it is. Lilly’s inherited house is crammed full of tea cups. Theo, a Soo Locks engineer, visits frequently in the hopes he will find the perfect antique teacup for his mother and is charmed by the lovely 'Shoppe owner.’ Lilly can’t turn the bachelor away when he persistently peruses her aunt’s collection, which she’s trying to pack up and remove from the house. Is the man only interested in the teacups, or in her? When Theo begins referring people to Lilly, and the genuine Tea Shoppe owner sets the police on Lilly for her lack of a business license, sparks fly!
Carrie Fancett Pagels is a multi-award-winning, bestselling, multi-published author of Christian fiction. She resides with her family in the Historic Triangle of Virginia, but hails from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan--where she loves to visit often.
Lilly has inherited her Aunt Lillian's Victorian home and must leave her Blue Ridge Mountains and go to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to claim the house. For a Kentucky hills gal, this is quite a change. She finds the house in some disrepair as well as loaded from top to bottom in every nook and cranny with tea cup sets! The neighbors think she is going to start a tea cup shoppe, and she's soon besieged with neighbors and town people who want to look at the teacups, but all Lilly wants is to be left alone. Theo, who is working on the development of the locks in Lake Superior, comes to her rescue; and in turn, Lilly rescues him from his problems.
Filled with laughter, hard work, and a good faith thread, this was an enjoyable novella as both Lilly and Theo work through their individual problems. I absolutely love this delightful cover!
Author Carrie Fancett Pagels has crafted a delightfully charming novella which takes our penniless, despairing heroine from the impoverished Blue Ridge Mountains—to a lovely estate set amongst the lilacs, maple trees, hydrangeas, and poppies of beautiful Michigan.
Almost destitute and finding she has inherited a house from her great-aunt, Lilly travels to Michigan to investigate. Upon her arrival she is amazed to discover she actually owns a three-story home, a carriage and horses, and teacups! Teacups?...yes, hundreds of them! Apparently her eccentric aunt loved collecting teacups, saucers, teapots, and other tea paraphernalia. Thinking Lilly's new home is a Tea Shop—handsome Theo, a Soo Locks engineer—visits frequently in the hopes that he will find the perfect antique teacup for his mother's collection. What ensues are plenty of sparks as Theo recommends Lilly's "tea shop" to potential customers, and they certainly fly between the pretty Lilly and the striking engineer!
Tea Shop Folly is a very well written, impeccably researched story and I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the Upper Peninsula...learning many interesting things about it that I wasn't aware of. This enchanting novella drew me in from page one—filled with amusing situations, romance, lovable characters, a beau-tea-ful setting, and plen-tea of trouble brewing! I guaran-tea that everyone will totally enjoy this wonderfully engaging story and THIS lady particularly loved the floral names of Lilly and all of her sisters...for obvious reasons! :)
Tea Shop Folly by Carrie Fancett Pagels is an absolutely delightful Christian historical romance and I loved it. I always know that when I pick up a story by Carrie Fancett Pagels, I will be absorbed into the action as I glide through the pages. Lilly is a wonderful main character. I could 'see' her in my mind's eye. She was warm and loving, a delightful woman of God who put others first and practices the gift of hospitality. Leading man Theo is a fabulous blend of strong but vulnerable. We meet him first as he is nursing a migraine and he brings out the nurturing side in the reader. He is also the protective knight in shining armour. The interactions between all the characters play out with ease. There are no airs or graces to Lilly and I chortled at her down to earth way of dealing with unwanted intrusions. The novella has the theme of hope which links in to faith and trust in God. He hears our prayers and always answers them. Submitting to God and His plans for our lives means we can always live with hope. The novel shows how gossip can be poisonous and is to be avoided. The reader is reminded of the caution in Proverbs about gossiping. There is an abundance of tea and china tea cups in the novella. The descriptions of the china are deliciously done and I found myself becoming excited over the different designs. As a fan of Carrie Fancett Pagels Christy Lumberjack series, it was refreshing to meet up with one of the characters within Tea Shop Folly. Tea Shop Folly is the most delightful way to spend a cold, damp, dark winter's afternoon. It's pages are warm and welcoming as the reader escapes to warmer climes and a quieter pace of life. I loved it. I can recommend any of Carrie Fancett Pagels novels, they are all super. I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
This is a quick, humorous novella that's filled with fun tidbits of history. The story is based on one that everyone likes to dream about: a poor girl Lilly inheriting property and money from a rich relative. The rich history of the Soo Locks, Sault Ste. Marie, Mackinac Island, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan are always fun to see through Carrie's writings. She even uses real street names. The humor throughout the story, from Lilly and her sisters all named after flowers, to Lilly's inherited house with high quality antique teacups stuffed in every possible place of storage, kept me chuckling. And to add to all this, her house is mistaken for a shop with the teacups for sale. Wonderful story!
Tea Shop Folly By Carrie Fancett Pagels was a very fun novella. It drew me in from the beginning. This was the first book I've read from this author but intend to check out her other books. Highly recommend this for a great, fun, short read! Loved it.
A love interest that begins with a misunderstanding, Theo becomes enamored with Lilly when he thinks she is running a tea shop, when in reality she settling into her new inherited home.
This novella set in 1895 offers a sweet romance springing from a misunderstanding about a bunch of teacups. It makes me want to pull up a rocker and have a cup of tea.
Tea Shop Dolly captures the essence of the changing world of the late nineteenth century in the juxtaposition of a southern mountain girl swept away to northern Michigan. Light hearted, witty and entertaining.
I love reading books from this very gifted author. She always fills her stories with faith, humor and a cast of characters that are fun to get to know. The description of the area was so realistic, I felt I was there among the beautiful trees and the lovely town that is the setting for this enchanting story.
Lilly finds out that she has just inherited a house from her great-aunt and goes to Michigan to see what shape the house is in. Once there, she is amazed at the magnificent home. I could feel her delight as she gazed upon the picturesque three-story home complete with a carriage and horses . But as opens the door, there before her eyes are the treasures of her great-aunt. They were delicate, breathtaking teacups and saucers. The author captured the pure beauty of each precious teacup as she wrote how magnificent and grand they were. Wouldn't it be wonderful to explore a shop full of teacups and saucers. Each one is displayed with elegance and intricate details that adorned the beautiful sets. Lily was speechless as she took in the precious gift her great-aunt had left her. Can you imagine seeing a house filled with over a hundred tea cups and now realize you own them?
When Theo is introduced in the story, I instantly liked his character. He is smart, handsome and has a great sense of humor. I loved the chemistry between Lily and Theo and it made for some great moments in the story. Somehow Theo thinks Lily's house is a Tea Shoppe and begins to send customers her way. Can you imagine the shock on Lilly's face when women started looking around in her house and admiring the tea cups? The story is wonderful and full of surprises and a romance that is sweet and enduring. Will Theo ever find the perfect teacup for his mother? Can Lilly and Theo find happiness together?
The story is well written and I loved how the author gave great details and made me feel like I was sipping tea with Lilly at her home. It is a story that is well written with funny misunderstandings, characters that you instantly like and a romance that is sweet, endearing and a true joy to read.
I received a digital copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
It is a lot of fun to meet an author and even more fun when you discover that by chance you have read her work before but didn't make that connection. This is true of my chance encounter to meet Carrie Fancett Pagels last week. I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to read and review the Tea Shop Folly, A Teacup Courtship Novella. As luck would have it I was just wrapping up a good book and was at sixes and sevens for my next selection. I found this story entertaining with a little bit of added history added. Set in Michigan, young Lilly has arrived after inheriting her Great Aunt Lillian's home and fortune. She left behind a gravely ill mother and her younger sisters who are in need of much needed hope that Lilly hopes to share upon receiving her bequest.
What follows is a series of misunderstandings after she meets a handsome young engineer from the Soo Locks, Theo on her first day in town. As fate would have it, Lilly and Theo meet again when he mistakes her home for Tea Shoppe. On the hunt for yet another teacup set for his hard to please mother, Theo spies piles of teacups that Lilly is sorting out from her Great Aunt's hoard of treasures. While she never acknowledges her home is a tea shoppe, he continues to believe she owns a business. When he finally realizes his folly all manner of characters have arrived to make this an even sweeter tale. Lilly is a treasure and her thoughtful approach to situations thinking about what her mama would do is a testament to proper upbringing and good family values.
I have become a fan of the Novella as a wonderful way to feed my reader for times when I really want to get into the story without committing to a large book. Award winning Carrie Fancett Pagels has not disappointed me with The Tea Shop Folly. I happily discovered that it was Carrie who wrote the Lumberjack Ball, book 2 of the Christy Lumberjack Series. If you like a good story with a hint of historical flare, I recommend this novella and other works by Carrie.
In Tea Shop Folly we are taken to Upper Peninsula, Michigan where Lilly Smith inherited her great-aunt Lillian's home filled with teacups. Engineer Theodore Reynolds mistakenly thinks Lilly's home is actually a tea shop and approaches her to buy one for his mother. Thus begins a friendship that may blossom into something more—possibly love.
I really enjoyed reading Lilly and Theo's story, the confusion they had to work through was fun to watch and humorous at times. I loved the “southern sayings” Lilly used at times that brought a chuckle and smile—of course, some of the characters did not find them as humorous as I did. Both Theo and Lilly were endearing characters with real problems, joys, family drama and faith that sustains them in all things and hope. The secondary characters livened up the story and I love that Garrett Christy is included—love those Christy boys! I love the descriptions of the Upper Peninsula and could envision it as I read—one day I hope to visit there.
Tea Shop Folly by Carrie Fancett Pagels is a sweet romance story that readers will thoroughly enjoy. It is about a woman, Lilly, that has inherited her great-aunt’s house full of old tea cups. But for some reason, a young man, Theo, gets the impression that Lilly’s establishment is a tea shop, when it actually is not. Through this confusion, as well as a visit from the local police due to no business license, a warm friendship and romance blossom between Lilly and Theo. A funny situation turned into a blissful romance. I would recommend this story to readers that enjoy historical fiction, romance.

TEA SHOP FOLLY is only the second story I've read by Ms. Pagels but she is quickly developing a fan with me. I loved her first book (set in the lumber camps of the upper peninsula of Michigan) The Fruitcake Challenge, and TEA SHOP FOLLY was just as fun and entertaining as the other.
Filled with misunderstandings, from misdirections to the tea shop, to letters arriving along with the guest, to a medicine that miraculously healed what it wasn't intended to. Along with the designing of the Soo Locks, there is also a lot of history included.
I enjoyed getting to know Lilly and Theo, along with the other collection of characters introduced in this book. I'm looking forward to reading Ms. Pagel's backlist sometime and getting caught up in the literary wonders she is putting out. Great story, thoroughly enjoyed it. And I love tea cups and tea pots, too. Another plus.
The Tea Shop Folly by Carrie Fancett Pagels is a novella with heart. I have enjoyed previous novellas by author Pagels and she certainly knows how to tell a complete story packed in just a few pages without the readers feeling like we are missing something. With a heroine who has lost hope and a hero who has made assumptions that are not true, we are given a lighthearted story about two wayward souls finding love and bringing kindness and goodness to their families. I look forward to more of this author’s work, especially her full length novels.
I received this book for free from The Book Club Network and the opinions and views expressed are my own honest ones.
"Why, hello dear!" How lovely for you to drop by. Would you care for a spot of tea? Or not? Carrie Fancett Pagels "Tea Shop Folly" is a lovely and delightful novella. This story blends perfectly introducing new characters with guests invited from "The Christy Lumber Camp" series. "So, dearie, pin on your hat and stroll right on into this sweet story.

Historical fiction fans will enjoy this sweet story set around the Soo Locks and a tea 'shop'. The relationship between Theo and Lilly moves along pretty quick but in a novella, there is a lot to fit in. Pagels knows how to cut through the dross and get to the romance. ;) It was fun seeing Garrett Christy again. He's my favorite Christy brother! I bought the Kindle edition for convenience but I would recommend the paperback just for the gorgeous cover alone!
In Tea Shop Folly, I enjoy the way author Carrie Fancett Pagels brings tea cups into the story. I love antiques and just reading about the house and the tea cups brings back great memories of family and friends from long ago. Will Lilly and Theo become more than new friends? Read this story to find out what happens with the tea cups and with Lilly and Theo.
Oh my goodness! This novella is fabulous! I just love Lilly and she made me laugh at times. I felt such a connection to her from page one. Such a delightful little story. A definite must read. 5 plus stars.
Tea Shop Folly, A Teacup Courtship Novella, by author Carrie Fancett Pagels is a delightful short story. This paperback is a sweet, historical Christian romance. It tells the story of Lilly. She is a kind young woman who has been caring for her ill mother and younger sisters. Lilly receives news that a relative has died in Michigan and left everything to her. It also is the tale of Theo, who is an engineer at the Soo Lock on Lake Superior. Through a series of events and misunderstandings these two are thrown together and a friendship blossoms into romance. They meet when Lilly is trying to go through her deceased aunt's house, now Lilly's, and Theo mistakenly believes he has walked into an antique tea shop. He buys a lovely vintage teacup and saucer for his mother.
I enjoyed this quaint story and the idea of having so many antique teapots, teacups and saucers. Even liked the idea of having a boarding house or tea shop, not to mention inheriting a vast amount of money. Author Pagels paints such a description with her words that I felt like I was there. Her characters were warm and engaging. The dialogue flowed seamlessly and it was some of my favorite parts. The story is well planned and written wonderfully. The author includes prayer in her inspirational novella. It is easily read at one time since it is a novella. I would definitely recommend this novella. If you enjoy Christian historical romance you will devour this tidbit in one setting. I was given the book by Book Fun (The Book Club Network) and here is my honest review. I rated it 4 out of 5 stars.
This comedy of errors features mistaken identities, mistaken addresses, and mistaken livelihoods, which make this a light-hearted, fun read. The writing is smooth, the characters were interesting, and the plot was engaging.
I read this novella by a new-to-me author just after I had finished reading a wonderful book from a favorite award-winning author. The transition was seamless! Kudos to Carrie Fancett Pagels for bringing me into the story immediately and entertaining me throughout! I look forward to reading more by this author.
Fans of historical romance will enjoy this book.
I received a digital copy of this novella from the author for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.
I love the amount of detail that is given developing both Lilly Smith and Theo Reynolds. They are both gentile, caring people.
The story that is presented as they begin to get to know each other starts with misconception. It adds a nice bit of confusion and future humor. They each have things about their family that they are slow to reveal. This just fits perfectly with the time period and strangers getting acquainted with each other.
I received a free copy of this novella from the author. I have chosen to write this review to express my personal opinion.
Tea Shop Folly is the story of a poor southern girl, Lily, who inherits her great aunt's estate in the north. Theo is an engineer from a formerly wealthy family. This is a cute novella of courtship because of a teacup. Tea Shop Folly is a quick light read. If you like light romance, you will enjoy this book. I was given this book by Book Fun (Book Club Network). This my honest opinion.
Tea Shop Folly by Carrie Fancett Pagels is a sweet little historical novella set in the late 1800s. When Lily and her family find themselves in desperate circumstances, it seems that it will take a miracle to get them out. That miracle arrives in the form of a bequest from an elderly aunt, but it brings about lots of changes for Lily. This book has elements of romance, misunderstandings that make for some comedic scenes and some historical facts about the time period. I enjoyed this story very much and look forward to getting to know the characters better if there are other stories in the series. I received a copy of this book from the author and The Book Club Network, Inc. in exchange for my honest review.
Tea Shop Folly was a delightful novella to read, by Carrie Fancett Pagels. I was captured into the story from the Prologue, where Lilly is caring for her ill mother and younger sisters with little hope in 1895, in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Lilly received a letter from her Great Aunt Lillian’s attorney that gave her hope.
Lilly travels to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula, and felt out of her element. Lilly’s hope was renewed after meeting with her aunt’s attorney who provided her with specific instructions in what to do with her inheritance of the home and funds. Lilly meets a young man, Theo, when at the mercantile. Theo had been told about a tea shop so he could purchase a teacup for his picky mother. With some misguided steps he showed up at Lilly’s aunt’s home to inquire about a teacup. He was astounded not only with the vast number of sets but the age of the teacups, as well as drawn to Miss Lilly. Lilly had others to come to her home and with spunk she gave them a piece of her mind. No one was taking anything from her Aunt’s home and she definitely was not running a Tea Shop as they understood from Theo. Will Lilly be able to bring her mother and sisters to reside with her? Who else will be there when they arrive that may influence a major decision being made about the home, garden and residents?
Mrs. Pagels had me right there with the characters experiencing their emotions, seeing the setting in my mind with her descriptive words in this charming quick read novella. Tea Shop Folly, Mrs. Pagels, was the first novella or book I’ve read. I’m so glad I have a couple of her books downloaded on my kindle already.
I received a complimentary kindle edition of Tea Shop Folly from the author. She did not ask that I write a review for her. However, I have written my honest opinion of Tea Shop Folly. I appreciate her gifted writing and providing history that was connected to Tea Shop Folly.
Tea Shop Folly (A Teacup Courtship Novella) Have read other works by the author and have enjoyed them. This one is from a tea cup series-this being my first one I thought it sounded like a good story and it's about tea. I love tea. Starts out with Lily and she's been taking care of her ailing mother and the rest of the siblings-girls with names of flowers similar to hers. She gets a note that her great aunt has passed and left everything to her. She travels to Michigan and talks to the lawyer and gets things in order. She finds out she was very wealthy and had thousands of tea cups and saucers which she will inventory and send to a cousin who has a tea shop. Lily goes a bit crazy spending the money as her aunt wanted her to and donating some even. Story also follows Theo and he's an engineer with the locks of Lake Superior. Loved learning about locks for ourselves as we climbed through them in upstate NY. He's in a boarding house til he finds out his mother is about to appear, to what she hopes is a summer rental house. He doesn't have the means to do that and he befriends Lily and stops by thinking she has a tea shop. He helps to set up the garden area for one. Many other visitors all get the wrong idea and think she's taking customers away from their boarding houses and tea shops. Love the words and different meanings of the word folly to realize what it was meant to in the story. How things are so misunderstood but how things are set right. Easy to keep track of the characters and there are a lot of visitor's and even the cops show up. Through prayer they may get through it all. Light reading for this novella. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end. I received this book from The Book Club Network (bookfun.org) in exchange for my honest review.
Instead of mistaken identity, what if you mistook a home for a business when you see exactly what you are looking for, including the proprietor, all-in-one? That happened for Theodore Reynolds.
And... I get to meet the Christy cousins! But back to Theo's adventure. He is on the right street following directions he was given, there are teacups of all assortments for a perfect gift for his mother... and his favored English tea, then, as he's been told. All is not as it seems to appear. ~*~ Lillian Smith leaves the Blue Ridge Mountains of Kentucky to travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, unexpectedly in 1895. A usual day of rising in the morning brings news that her namesake has died and she is to come and claim her inheritance.
Can you imagine going so far away? Lilly is a brave young woman setting off on a journey farther north than even her lumberjack cousins. On her venture to buy warm clothes, she is helped with the stuck door at the mercantile by a gentleman coming to pick up medicine. Theo enters her life.
This is such a fun story as you become acquainted with them as they interact with each other. Especially when her cousin Garrett Christy comes to take teacups and saucers back to his wife's tea shop at Mackinac Island. His little goading has an effectual beginning of awareness.
I look forward to further stories of Lilly's family.
***Thank you author Carrie Fancett Pagels for including me in the book tour for Tea Shop Folly and sending a copy for review. This review was written in my own words. No other compensation was received.***
What do teacups and romance have in common? Quite a bit in this charming, sweetly-brewed novella!
When poverty-stricken Lilly Smith becomes heir and executor of her Aunt Lillian’s estate, she travels from the Blue Ridge Mountains to Northern Michigan to move into her eccentric Aunt’s home and begin sorting through things. The house is bursting with her Aunt’s collection of tea cups, so what’s Lilly to do when the handsome Theo, an engineer, comes looking for the perfect teacup for his mother? For one thing, she doesn’t correct his thinking it’s not a tea shop, for then she may not see him again! That little error in judgement leads to all sorts of problems which sorely tries Lilly’s patience and may even land her in hot water. Without the tea! Will this folly bring together Theo and the feisty Lilly, or will it ruin their chances of a promising courtship?
This delightful story kept me drinking from the pages until the delicious end! I enjoyed the fascinating historic details scattered throughout, the touches of humor, and the delightfully diverse characters. And it was just as satisfying as a good cuppa!
This is a charming and delightful romance novella that you will love. I read it in one sitting. A wonderful story with amazing characters. There is a lot of story packed into this short novella. I really enjoyed reading this story and hope to read more of Carrie Fancett Pagels writings. Lilly almost penniless and with no hope in sight inherits her great aunt's beautiful home in Michigan. As she starts going through her aunts things she discovers hundreds of teacups along with saucers and teapots. Theo is an engineer working at Soo Locks. He is looking for the perfect antique teacup set for his very picky mother. His colleague tells him about the Tea Shoppe. As he walks to find the Shop he reaches Lilly's home and sees all types of teacups and teapots on the front porch. Thinking he has found the Tea Shoppe he finally persuades Lilly to sell him a set for his mother. He finds her charming and comes by often and recommends the Shoppe to other people. Read to see what happens when the owner of the real Tea Shoppe confronts Lilly. I recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book from bookfun.org for my honest opinion and review.
