******** WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
******** AND SOME EXPLICIT CONTENT ********

(But let’s face it, you’re not reading this one for the plot!)

Wow. This was one crazy-ass book.

This story is driven by the concept of finding your Sacred Mate, the one predestined for you, for whom you will forsake all others. It just so happens that Zor Q'an Tal, High King of Tryston, Emperor of Trek Mi Q'an galaxy’s Sacred Mate Kyra Summers is from the primitive planet of Earth.

Has potential, right? Alas.

I know this is erotica, but it still needs to make some basic kind of sense to me. After all, my most important sexual organ is my brain. Some of the plot devices used to facilitate the non-stop sex-fest that is The Empress’ New Clothes were downright ridiculous.

Here we have a premise, centered around the bond of Sacred Mates, that includes customs dictating that each mate must, in a room full of people, be serviced to their peak by multiple people, usually at the same time, until they cry out loudly enough to satisfy their Sacred Mate.

Oh, and lets not forget the other law that requires a male’s brother to ‘gentle’ his brother’s Sacred Mate by bringing her to her peak multiple times. After this, she must be naked at all times while in her Sacred Mate and/or his brother’s presence.

But, hey, as long as the rod doesn’t actually go in the channel, it’s all good.

And let’s please not forget the fact that the human women, who yes, have mated with aliens but still retain their human biology, LAY EGGS. Yes, eggs. Big ones. Oh, and their breasts engorge, to the size of watermelons no less, with Sweet Juice, not milk.

Yes, The Empress’ New Clothes is not just a case of anything goes, but also anyone goes. The heroine went from a tax accountant horrified at having to wear sheer and skimpy clothing, to a raging nymphomaniac with voyeuristic and exhibitionist tendencies, all within the space of hours.

This is a world where you must be serviced by enchanted humanoids each time you bathe in order that you peak in front of whoever happens to have the honor of bathing with you. And random orgies occur where six females pleasure themselves on one male – after all, he does have two hands, two feet and well, you can probably guess the rest.

And I must not forget my friend, the crazy two assed creature whose head is formed by one of its asses, with the unfortunate habit of snorting so that it ‘smelled like somebody cut one’.

At times this read like a parody, although I’m not sure that was the author’s intention, because it took itself mighty seriously in other parts. I know I was definitely laughing at this book, rather than with it.

I don't mean to laugh at this book, but how can I not to.
I really needed a good laugh. I got that and then some.
I saw this book on a list of "guilty pleasures" on a blog and decided to give it a try, because I was curious to see what all the fuss was about. I did gave it one star, because the story had no plot and characters were ridiculous, but I don't regret reading it, because it made me laugh.

If you would ask me to give you a summery of this book I wouldn't be able to do it if my life depended on it. But I will give you a summery of what *I* thought this book was about.

WARNING SPOILERS

Some king from another galaxy/dimension/planet, named Zor, travels to earth. Suddenly, he sees a woman with whom he feels instant and undeniable connection, and knows that she is his true mate. There is a moment where their eyes meet and she is paralyzed instantly by his stare. Literally. She can't move. Oh, then her clothes started suddenly flying off of her.

"Kyra gasped in shock as she felt her clothes coming undone. She shrieked as her shirt and jeans were ripped from her body by force unseen and went hurling through the air, leaving her totally naked in the barbarian men's presence."

Then, he sweeps her up and brings her to his galaxy/planet/dimension/whatever. She wakes up and he explains to her that they are husband and wife now, and how things gonna be from now on.

The story has no plot what so ever, in my opinion. They get down and dirty from the second she wakes up in his dimension. Scratch that, when she wakes up, she finds him latched onto her nipple, fondling her 'you know what'.
"Kara gawked at the brazen man's audacity. He was asleep, yes, but even in slumber he was manhandling her. Hi mouth was latched onto her right nipple."

Later, he puts her in a... let's call it "a gown", called qi'ka. This "gown" is a see-through, so you can see her nipples that are ready too cut glass and her lady bits. He explains to her that that's what women here wear in this place.
Blah, blah, blah, let's go to the fun part.

I have read quite a few historical romance books, but the language in this one sounded a little bit made up. I'm not a native english speaker so you can correct me if I'm wrong.
"By the tit of the heeka-beast, you know how to kill a fair mood."

There is a lot of sex going on. A LOT. On every fucking corner somebody is fondling somebody, someone is sucking someone's nipple or screaming in ecstasy. I thought it was too much even for an erotic novel.
Kyra have to have genteling ceremony with Zor's brother, Kil, because she needs to feel comfortable with him, if he dies one day, his brother will takes his place. So there is gazillion pages with his brother giving her tons of orgasms.
Long story short, everybody is fucking everybody. Every time they take a bath there are servants "serving" them. If you know what I mean ;-). But those moments, that suppose to be erotic, was so hilarious that my iPad fell on the food, I thought the screen got shattered, because I laughed so hard my whole body was shaking.
"I remember a performer last year who was able to bring ten warriors to their pleasure at the same time."
At. The. Same. Freaking. Time!!!

But here is the part that almost damaged my iPad. Kyra gets pregnant.

"B-Babies!" Geri sputtered. "I thought she was dying! Why didn't anybody tell us you hatched eggs for babies around here?"
***
"Oh my god!" Kyra cried hysterically, clapping a hand to her forehead. "I'm laying eggs. Geri, I'm laying eggs!"
***
"Where I come from, women carry their babies nine months before giving birth."
"Nine months!" Kil grimaced. "By the goddess, the eggs must be exceedingly large."
"We don't hatch eggs."
***
"Milk?" Zor looked up from Zora, his brow furrowed. "What's this milk?"
"I said," Kyra repeated, "I don't have any milk in my breasts to feed the girls with."
"Yeek!" Dak shuddered, his lips curling in disgust. "I should prey to goddess not."
"By the sands, that is night unto disgusting."
***
"How will I feed our daughters then?"
"The same as they suckled from your womb before hatching. Sweet juice."
"Sweet juice?"
"Aye."
Geris's lips pinched into one of her famous scowls. "You mean that glowing blue junk that came pourin' out of her like something in a horror movie?"
"Aye."

I can't. I just... Just give me a moment to stop laughing and get myself together...

*****3.5 "Erotic Alien Abduction" Stars*****

description

Kyra Summers is just leaving a spiritual retreat, when she sees a beautiful muscular warrior. Before she can process it all, her clothing evaporates from her body. She is then abducted by the sexy, alien. He is determined to make her his wife, and have his way with her body!!

d

Kyra is transported thru the galaxy to a world that revolves around erotic sexual pleasure. These aliens can go all night, giving women nonstop ecstacy.

I can only recommend this book to readers looking for an erotic sci-fi experience. This book is "Sex on Crack". The characters are likable and I look forward to reading more of this series. But I would not be able to tolerate these books back to back. I would get tired of all of the erotic escapades.

Wild, erotic, and crazy fun ride.

The males are ultra-alpha and obsessively in love with their one true mate. The females are smart, independent and likeable. Unbelievably crazy sex almost nonstop throughout the book. Very well done erotica.

Zor is king of the planet Tryston. He comes to earth to find his one Sacred Mate who is Kyra, a tax accountant. He takes her to his planet to become his wife. She must wear see through clothes in public and must always be naked when alone with Zor or his brother Kil. The author is amazingly creative with all the lusty crazy sexual habits on the planet Tryston.

Sexual language: erotic. Number of sex scenes: at least 44, plus descriptions of sexual customs, of which I'm not sure how to count. Setting: current day earth which is 6023 YY (Yessat Years) on planet Tryston. Copyright: 2002. Genre: erotic paranormal science fiction romance.

What would you do if a seven foot four inch, three hundred and seventy pound hunk of alien man came charging at your naked body? Well, if Kyra Summers wasn't rooted to the ground by some mystikal force, she would be running like hell.

Zor Q'an Tal, High King of Tryston, Emperor of Trek Mi Q'an has finally found his Sacred Mate. The fact that she hails from a primitive first dimension known as Ear-th is unfortunate, but he's sure she'll soon become comfortable with Trystonni ways. He has been waiting for his Sacred Mate for hundreds of years and now that he's found her, he delights in her primitive ways and her cute temper. Kyra is amazed to find herself the High Queen and Empress to seven dimensions and even more stunned to find herself surrounded by enormous, hunky alien men who look respectfully yet lustfully at her scantily clad body. As she steps into her new home, the Palace of the Dunes, this former tax accountant knows she's not in Kansas anymore.

This was such a fun story. We follow poor Kyra as she suffers through nightly romps in the sack with her Sacred Mate, Zor and we follow along as she discovers the trials and tribulations of being High Queen. I thought this story was really hot and also, really, really funny. Kyra's birthing scene was one of the funniest things I've ever read as were the bar scenes. Kyra was cute and sexy, and Zor was pompous and arrogant and soooo yummy. For all his dominant posturing, he seemed a little beta to me. He could be as chest pounding and hair dragging as any alpha male, but he was also so sweet and morose whenever Kyra sent him out to the dog house.

When I say that this book is for lovers of voyeurism and exhibitionism, I mean that some of the sex practices on Tryston are a little out of the norm for planet Earth. Well, maybe not, but not sanctioned legal practices anyway. There are "consummation feasts" where the men are serviced by female slaves and the women are forced to watch. Turnabout is fair play because then the men are forced to watch as their wives are brought to their "woman's joy" by unmarried men. It supposedly makes the inevitable consummation all the more enjoyable. Well, it works for Zor and Kyra. Kyra soon loses her uptight tax accountant ways as she indulges in public displays of affection and couples play. *wink wink*

Jaid Black doesn't skimp on the world building. She really sets up a fantastic world and it was amazing. We really aren't in Kansas anymore and I really enjoyed indulging in this story. This is scifi erotica at it's best and I loved it. Jaid Black had set up all the sequels in this book and it just whetted my appetite for future stories from Trek Mi Q'an and I can't wait.

I should be fair and write reviews not only of book I liked but also explain, even if briefly, why I didn’t like and wouldn’t recommend others. Jaid Black’s The Empress' New Clothes is such a book. I was disappointed in the story after briefly reading its synopsis and some reviews, not that I don’t enjoy some erotica. There was no plot, simply nothing but sex and voyeurism. I gave it a star because it was readable, just that. Not my kind of book, I can't even remember why I picked it up. Nevertheless, I suggest you skip to the next book on your to-read shelf.

Sci-fi with lots of public sex

Whew! This is a never ending sex stuffed story. While the culture is hedonistic, the one true mate also applies--with exceptions for orgy parties and traditions. I didn't care for a lot of it; oral sex and stimulation from others than your mate is cheating/non committal. Siblings see/watch each other have sex and there is female on female as well.

I....
I'm not even quite sure what to say about this.
I'm not really sure how to say what I think about this book.

There's nothing innately wrong with it. I didn't come away with any disgust or disappointment even. I just kinda didn't finish reading it because, really? What's the point?

75% of the plot was sex of some kind.
24.8% of the plot was TALKING about sex of some kind.
.2% of the plot was....plot.

And after a while, even lovers of steamy writing (ahem) need to read *something* of substance!! There was no forseeable end to the story, and I wasn't even sure what the overall point was. There were a few threats that could've been drawn out to encompass an entire book...like bandits...like a war...like a second journey to Earth to find someone else a mate...like betrayal...like babies... And yet?!

And yet, all of those startling things are flattened under the force of SEX, SEX, ALPHA MALE, NUDITY, SEX!! And, while those things are hawt, and certainly have their place, more isn't always better. Sometimes more is just *more*.

2 and a half stars. Didn't work for me: the H had too much traits I dislike. The more I listened to the audio the more I got exasperated. Not much to say since I stopped short after hearing about the women's status into the "advanced" civilization of Tryston.
If you enjoy light BDSM and exhibitionism in novels, you could give it a try.

I discovered "Ellora's Cave" online publishing at a time in my life when I was single, had no outside life to speak of, and was reaching the 'hormonal blooming' of my 30's.
Ladies over 35, you know of what I speak.

So thanks to Jaid Black, now I understand the life of 18 year old males. Privacy, lubricant and stimulus.

The down side to my discovering Jaid Black was that it happened just before Thanksgiving. So I had to fake being sick to my family that year so I could stay at home in my apartment...reading & masterbating.

Uhh yeah, it's that stimulating.

Don't read Jaid Black for any deep insights or for her flowing writing. Just read it for the FAN-TAS-TIC orgasm scenes.

This was a strange but interesting book. The hatching an egg thing was kind of freaky deaky. If you don't like contact or love making between people other than the main hero and heroine, don't read this one.

It's taken me sometime to write this review because I could not reconcile in my mind the book I read with the reviews about it. I've read other Jaid Black books, and loved them. So, my previous reading experience along with the 4 and 5 star reviews added to a great sense of anticipation. My advice: Skip this one and move to the next book on your list. TRUST ME.

Where to begin, the book starts out interesting enough, but the moment the two main characters meet it's all downhill from there. The characters are one dimensional, card board cut out.

Zor: In a word? Well, neanderthal comes to mind. His only thoughts were about himself, what he needed, wanted, felt. He never took the time to educate his "sacred mate" about his world, society, her duties, societal expectations. His immediate response so anything she did not know was to insult her home planet. What was likable about this guy? Not a thing.

Kyra: Our heroine with no backbone. She's uncomfortable with everything from the beginning but goes along with it all with amazing ease, giving in at every turn. From the sheer clothing, to orgasming in the bath with strangers, to being forced to let her brother-in-law "gentle" her and then having to walk around naked whenever alone with him, are all things she starts out immensely uncomfortable with, until suddenly she's very comfortable with it all. It made no sense.

Geris: Kyra's best friend, an African-American woman. Was she a stereotypical cut out? Without a doubt - from her speech to her tantrums. At least she had a backbone though. She gave her husband hell and didn't back down. I did find it frustrating that after all the surprises her husband put her through, that Kyra never did warn Geris of what to expect. What kind of best friend was Kyra?

The secondary plot of a rebellion was paper thin, not at all fleshed out or thought out, but honestly that describes the whole book. Such as, how is a human woman able to give birth to eggs? And why do their breasts engorge with sweet juice instead of milk? Was there some fundamental change in their genetic make-up I missed? Overall, it seemed this author bit off more than she could chew with this story. A Sci-Fi story with world-building, should be carefully crafted and plotted out, not slapped together with sex-scenes as the glue.

Maybe I expect too much from my erotic reads. I do expect that if I'm buying a book that the story is a good one overall, that the characters will be interesting or at least likable. While, I'm sure I'll read another Jaid Black book in the future, I wont' be reading another in this series.

This book brings to mind a favourite British expression. Rumpy Pumpy!

Yup, that was pretty much the plot line with a lot of weird, a hand full of unintentional hilarity and a bucket full of 'what the hell' thrown in for a good measure!

The people from Tryston in the Trek Mi Q'an galaxy belong to this alien patriarchal society where sexuality is as essential as air, food or shelter and everyone is preoccupied with reaching their peak, the big 'O'. In this world, orgies are the norm, there is always someone ready to get you off and even innocent bath times are not so innocent when enchanted humanoids are ready to turn you inside out. And the people here are fondling each other left right and centre every chance they get. This is a place where almost anything goes and sex is like happy hour and every holiday all rolled into one. After a while, all the sex and talk of sex when not having sex gets old fast.

In this world, the seven foot tall, thickly-muscled warrior called Zor Q'an Tal is the Emperor of Trek Mi Q'an and the High King of Tryston. He is the law and he can pretty much go anywhere, kidnap anyone and do pretty much anything he pleases! He is a prime example of is culture and his many harem can attest to his prowess and stamina. Yup, he is a certified manwhore. just check his intergalactic passport if you don't believe me.

Kyra Summers may have been an intelligent woman before laying eyes on Zor, but after that all bets were off. In no time she joins the horde of stereotypical heroines of romancelandia and becomes literally too stupid to live, going from 'let me go you big jerk' to 'I love you so much I can't exist without you' in the blink of an eye. She was such a pushover and so uninterested in what was going on beyond her pleasure induced immediate little world. And that event in the end... I couldn't believe she was so stupid and juvenile enough to put herself in such danger and without even a good reason. Kyra was definitely TSTL.

There were times when I thought this was a parody of all the Alien romance books out there because all the made up alien words were too funny and many of the situations the heroine found herself in was a bit ridiculous! For example, as soon as the heroine's eyes connect with the big alien hero she is frozen to the spot by a mystical force and her clothes literally fly off of her and from there things get out of this world weird and even down right hysterical.

I love science fiction romance but this book wasn't for me because I like my sci-fi romance to have a plot line that makes sense, some character development, emotional connection between h/h and I love a bit of world building too and the more in depth the better.

This book might appeal to anyone who doesn't mind reading a story centred on sex and nothing much else beyond that. If you are OK with that then sit back, relax and let your mind take a trip to the Trek Mi Q'an galaxy.

Well it didn't suck. Too much sex. Sex with men, women, slaves, golems, indoors, outdoors, at the opera, at wedding feasts, you name they have exhibitionist sex there. The sci fi story was interesting but thin and swamped in superfluous sex. I personally don't care to read any f/f sex scenes so I skimmed those as quick as I could. Trying to think of more to say in this review but all I can come up with is hmm...

i'm sorry. but i just love these weird futuristic worlds where sex is the mainstay in the culture. total sci-fi-lite. earthling woman (1st dimension world) gets kidnapped by huge, gorgeous human-like alien (7th dimension world) who believes - rightly - that she's his mate.

story line is basically just a vehicle for SEX. lots and lots of SEX. but enough world building to keep the sex moving along nicely.

if you're one of those people who insist h/h give up any sex with others because they're in lurrrrve, this might not be the book for you. although there is a strong distinction between actual penetration and anything else, so you might be ok. some of it felt really

things i hated/thought were stupid: some of the language of the 7th dimension characters. they're freakin' light years ahead of earth in terms of technology and their very existence. so why do they need to talk like their in a raunchy version of medieval times? also loathed (though extremely common in these stories) how quickly/easily heroine gave up her past, her planet, her life and just accepted that she's now part of this weird culture. a couple of lame comments, one escape plan and some yearning does not a kidnapped victim make.

will most likely read some more of the series - future main characters were littered throughout this book, so i can see where it'll all go. but again - the sex is good, so if i'm in a the mood for that - i'm in.

I am embarrassed to admit I've been writing for Ellora’s Cave since 2004 but had never read this book. After all, this book basically launched my publisher. When I received a copy as a gift at RomantiCon, I decided to sit down and read it. Was I ever glad I did! I can see now how “out there” this book would have been back in 2000, when it was first published. Purple prose? Hell no. Sex only after a proclamation of love? Nope. Sex only between the hero and heroine? No way. Even now, ten years later, this book is relevant. The sex scenes are plentiful, varied, and very hot. The primary plot-- the developing relationship between the heroine and her 7 ft tall warrior--is well developed. And there are also some interesting secondary storylines, which set up future books in the series.

I’ve read other books by Jaid Black, and I just love her voice. There are some laugh-out-loud moments in this book. Those moments, combined with the smoking hot sex scenes, and those drool-worthy warriors will have me downloading the next installment of the Trek Mi Q’an series pronto.

For those of you who love thrillers, one warning--the main action-suspense plot was a little thin. Personally, I don’t look for complicated thriller plots in erotic romances. Therefore, it didn’t ruin my enjoyment of the novel at all.

I could not get through this book. The heroine (if you can even call her that) is the biggest push over... ever. One minute her goal is to get back home and the next she can't imagine life without this guy who has kidnapped her, forced her to do things she doesn't want to do and fondles her nonstop (the fondling alone was driving me insane) despite the fact that it embarrasses her.

The language that the author has given the "7th dimension" characters is just annoying. There was absolutely no reason for them to sound this way! Earth is supposed to be the primitive planet here, and yet this advanced society reads like they just fell out of the mid 1800s. Unnecessary.

Then there was the constant sex. For no reason. The culture on this planet just doesn't make sense, everybody just has sex with everyone and it's weird. Definitely not my kind of story.

Once I add a book to my TBR, I have a hard time removing it unless I attempt to read it, no matter how my tastes have changed over the years. This book was a remnant of my days hanging in an Erotica forum - don't get me wrong, I still enjoy Erotica now and then, just not this silly type.

There was an attempt at humor here - that's why the 2 stars instead of 1 - and I confess I laughed a few times. However, everything else about the book was too much. The sexual situations were so over the top - orgies with imaginary beings, f/f/m, crazy rituals and customs that always ended in a sexual situation, etc. - and that's without thinking of the alien kidnapping. This was the look on my face while I was reading (minus the mustache and with a lot more hair.)

I'm just glad it's out of my TBR.

Eeeeeek... Sweet baby Jesus. This book should come with a warning. I think I might need therapy after reading half of it, and it will defo not be a book I ever will be able to finish.

Now I am pretty conservative, so I am sure there are lots of people out there who would love this book. It just wasn't my kind of romance...
But if you like a book with mainly just sex, women walking around naked and openly being ogled by men, sex orgies, f/f action, your husband/bound shagging several women on your wedding night whilst your watching/waiting for your turn, then this is THE book for you.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go and find the yellow pages so I can look for a therapist specialising in PTSD...

This is a quick and fun read if you're willing to allow yourself several hours of a willingness to suspend disbelief. If you are not a fan of explicit sexual encounters set in a world where women are pleasure slaves, you might want to skip this one completely. Some parts of The Emperess' New Clothes are worth a few chuckles here and there.

Having said all that, my biggest problem with this book is the main characters are for the most part, cardboard cut-outs. Romance/romantica isn't just about plot, but about characters who jump right off the page and into the reader's heart. This didn't happen with me in this book. Zor was the overbearing and arrogant alpha male stock type that I thought romance had done away with nearly a decade ago. Not only did his attitude drive me to distraction, it seemed that he couldn't see past his own very large member that Kyra, the woman he claimed to 'love' was actually a real-life flesh and blood human being.

And Kyra Summers, the human woman kidnapped by Zor to be his 'Sacred Mate' was everything about a female character I have always loathed in romance. She was far too passive for my tastes, accepting too easily her new 'status' as available lust object. Sure, she was a little miffed about hatching children rather than carrying them for nine months, and she wasn't all that thrilled about having extremely large mammary glands for several weeks, but that seemed to be the extent of her 'rebellion'.

I didn't get any sense of any true erotic tension or real emotion between Kyra and Zor, and neither did they show any growth as characters.

The only saving grace was Geris, Kyra's best friend. Contrary to what some reviews have said about her being a 'stereotype' (and I have to wonder if it's their own stereotyped views of black women which might cloud their judgements), her character had all the spunk and attitude that I wished Kyra had. I can see Geris placing a few big grains of sand into the machine of Trystonni life and driving Dak crazy. I will be reading her story next.

The sex, at least for me as a writer and reader of erotica, was rather tame in scope. I was hoping for hot and cutting edge, but ended up with pages and pages of vanilla couplings. I didn't have any issue with the whole non-monogamy aspect of the book, but it seemed as if the 'rules' were slightly skewed in favour of the males. I also found it a little interesting that Ms. Black shied away from an encounter between the Chief Priestess Ari and Kyra that didn't involve Zor. Also, there was just NO emotional tension or bonding in the scenes. It was like reading a manual or something.

The world of Tryston wasn't as fleshed out as I'd hoped for such a good-sized book. It would have been interesting to read about the evolution of Trystonni society and why women are in the positions they are. I didn't have any issues with the whole women as sexual mates/domination angle, but it would have worked better in the hands of a more skilled writer.

Still, Jaid Black is to be commended for being one of the pioneers of the romantica field, though personally, I think Robin Schone is still the reigning queen.

Words fail me. This book is bizarre and incredibly hilarious though I'm sure that's not what the author intended. This is what I would classify as sci-fi erotica.
What do I think of this book? The writing is poor. There is no plot. The sex scenes are repetitive. I've read better books than this.

The hero in the story is Zor who comes from Tryston, a planet far from Earth. He like the other males of his planet are over 7 feet tall and extremely muscular (think of professional wrestlers on TV). They also have the sex drive of someone who has taken an entire bottle of Viagra. They are very much alpha males who are possessive of their mates. The men are deeply possessive enough to kill you for touching their mates inappropriately. Zor happens to be the Emperor of his intergalatic system. He's looking for his soulmate who happens to be a human female on Earth so he comes here to capture her.

Everyone on the planet Tryston is extremely liberal with their sexuality. They have no problems having sex in front of each other and in multiple ways although thankfully none of this happens in front of children as far as I could tell. All the sex is between a man and woman or a man and multiple women. There is no M/M sex. I had to treat this book as pure fantasy because if you take it too seriously the subjugation of women and their status in this society will get to you.

Besides all the sex, there are also dinosaurs, floating tables, an orgy or two, aliens who have no faces, etc.

This is an erotic romance in every sense of the genre. Sex saturates every 3rd page. 3.5 of 5 really. I liked it but couldn't say I was amazed by the overall all appeal. I definately look forward to reading the rest of the series. I enjoy Jaid Black's writing style, characters, and setting.

Kyra is whisked to Tryston by Zor, High King and claimed Sacred Mate. While Trystonni customs take getting used to (like wearing transparent garments that pass as clothing) Kyra is shocked she finds herself enjoying other pleasurable customs.

The pace of the story is what kept me turning the page and enjoy seeing the swift development of Kyra and Zor's intimate relationship. That brisk pace is what gave you a better sense of Trystonni customs and were able to say that, yes, she can love him in a matter of days.

Jaid Black makes her characters and world setting so much the envy of others that mine the same "lusty alien barbarian kidnaps plain Jane that is his mate" storyline.

The high ratings/reviews for this book were a bit misleading for me. I suppose if you were reading this story just for the sex (volume and variety) it definitely delivers. The writing structure was good and the character voices consistent (different speech patterns and phrases for the alien culture from the human heroine's Earth dialogue) but I just didn't like the characters much. I've never seen a heroine do so many about-faces in my life: she hates everything about this alien culture...then she loves everything about it. Then she hates it again, etc. The hero went from hard-ass alpha to whiny sad-sack and back. Their emotional "connection" did not read as believable to me. Basically, they just got on my nerves, hence the two-star rating.

And people say Laurel K Hamilton's books have too much sex. Jaid Black's books with Ellora's cave are poorly disguised bits of softcore porn. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Jaid Black is actually a male writer.

It's poorly written pulp, good only for the sort of reading one does with a book in one hand and a vibrator in the other. Yeah the sex scenes are steamy, as well as fairly explicit. But in the end there's no substance to these books.

The sci-fi angle is used only to make kidnapping and virtual slavery acceptable, since the world these characters inhabit involves a culture where men rule supreme and women...well lets just say they are pretty powerless.

This book was not very good. First of all, the protagonist was perfectly ordinary. I know that was probably the point; the author wanted a generic woman so that any woman could imagine herself being kidnapped and forced to be the wife of a muscular 7 foot tall alien. But the woman was so incredibly uninteresting I couldn't identify with her at all. So there's that.

Also, this was definitely a "romance novel" in that the secondary plot was weak and underdeveloped. I've seen this done well; in this book it was not done well. I felt catered to, and it really destroyed any suspension of disbelief I might have had. Also the whole lactating blue milk thing I found icky.
