Kindle freebie romance time again! (now back to 99c) This cute novella takes a few elements from the legend of Robin Hood and turns them into a sweet, squeaky clean contemporary romance, with just a little bit of Bible scripture-quoting and answers to prayers making their way into the mix.
Our heroine, Robyn, is a hardworking, no-nonsense kind of gal who broke up with her boyfriend Arrowe (NO LAUGHING AT THE NAMES) a year ago, because he wasn't much good at adulting, spending most of his time working on being a YouTube star. Robyn and Arrowe are both into competitive, trick archery, and when she needs a celebrity archer to be part of an archery tournament at the grand opening of the Sherwood Horse Archery Center that she's organizing, somehow it works out that Arrowe is the only qualified person available on those dates.
Meanwhile, Arrowe has been trying to change some of the things in his life that bugged Robyn - like excess flirting with other women and not being a responsible adult - and he feels like now's the time to try to patch things up again with Robyn, even though she's doing her best to avoid him. Just to thicken the plot, Robyn also has a stalkerish guy chasing her, Monty, that she dated a few times who is refusing to take no for an answer, certain that they're meant to be Together4Ever. So far he's stuck to sending daily notes and flowers, but when Arrowe shows up in Robyn's life again, Monty starts to escalate.
"Shot to the Heart" is short, cute, rather fluffy and not overly taxing of the brain. The Christian faith elements are there but play a pretty minor role. Plus points for what seem to be fairly knowledgeable details about trick archery. Fun and lighthearted read, except for one personal danger scene.
I have to start by saying I had no clue what this book was about when I started reading it, but I absolutely loved it!!!!!! For a novella, it drew me in right away, and completely immersed me in the story. The romance was so sweet, and who doesn't love a handsome boy AND a girl heroine who can shoot a bow and arrow like Robin Hood?!!! Definitely a great read, and now I'm dying to get my hands on another one of her books!
Fun story. A bit predictable though. The characters were fun and relatable. Super quick read since it's a novella. It probably took me less than two hours to read. It bugged me that throughout the book several main character's names were misspelled. I'm a little picky about easy edits...
I did receive this free ebook for an honest review.
So I'm rounding up and giving this 5 stars because I'm a sucker for Robin Hood stories and the fact that this one is written with such a different modern twist was endearing. Robyn felt like she was fading into the background and is ready to move on with her volunteer work. Arrowe is not about to let her go without a fight. Arrowe is pretty much everything you think he should be with a name like that. Swoony. Because it's a novella, it's short and sweet with a typical Kate Palmer bad guy thrown in, but an adorable ending that will leave you feeling as if you shot a bulls-eye.
Romance novella. I loved the characters and plot. It kept me intrigued and flipping the pages. The two main characters are bow and arrow masters and I loved seeing how the author worked that hobby/career into the plot. I love learning about new skills/hobbies. Arrowe is a cool hero. I love how he goes after the woman he loves (his ex-girlfriend) and tries to prove she can’t live without him. Robyn doesn’t know what to believe. Has Arrowe really changed, or is this all for another publicity stunt? I loved the character arc and growth. It was a nice, clean romance that was a pleasure to read with great characters, suspense, and heart-tugging.
So this little doozie is a great clean romance. With some groveling and some maneuvering Arrowe might just get his wish. A second chance with the woman who this he is just a media junkie and has no room for him in her life. Robyn finally has every thing she has worked for and no time for Arrowe until her star instructor is injured. Well time for her to put on her big girl panties.
A fun and clean read with great characters and writing.
Often anovella starts from scratch also and the two main characters fall in love so fast and the plot is so thin it seems very unrealistic. But Kate Palmer filled in enough character depth, it made for a wonderful read. She started in a more likely spot a second chance. I also love when the man is madly in love with his girl he will do anything to win her. Very Satisfying story. Jane B.
This is a super cute story. My biggest issue was that the author writes part of it in first person and part in third, which was a little distracting to me.
I didn't really care much for the plot of this story or the main male character, Arrowe. I didn't like how he set her up to try and win her back, and I felt like she too readily got back together with him. Left me feeling disappointed. I like this author, though, and will definitely read more of her books. This one just didn't sit right with me.
I enjoyed this quick, cute second chance story from Kate Palmer. She was able to develop interesting characters in a short span and a well-rounded story with a villain and a satisfying ending.
This is my first read by Kate Palmer. She brings us a sweet little novella. Robyn has a past with Arrowe. He regrets letting her go and undertakes his plan to win back his damsel. Then throw in a bit of psycho stalker and it's a well rounded adventure.
Robyn is confident, self assured and strong, she doesn't need Prince Charming. She runs a camp for underprivileged youths and because she is a world class archer she is using a camp to help them. Arrowe is a bit of a mystery but he truly loves Robyn and is trying to make her see him for what he is not what he was.
Then you throw in a villian and the adventure is great. Ms. Palmer's characters are well developed, believable and her plot lines are forward moving. If you are looking for a quick, funny read, and a good second chance romance, this one is a keeper. It's got a bit of everything in it, so you definitely won't regret the read.
I am an independent reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock.
This is my first read by Kate Palmer, it is so much more than just a sweet second chance romance, you get strong independent woman, funny scenes and wit, danger but the whole package pulls you in. Arrowe regrets ever letting her go and makes a plan to win her back, Robyn is confident and strong and loves to run the archery camp for underprivileged children but she didn't plan on a psycho stalker. I really enjoyed reading this and received it through instafreebie, this is my honest unbiased review.
This was a sweet book. It was romantic, and Robyn and Arrowe were a cute couple. There wasn't a lot of sizzle, but you could tell that they belonged together by the end of the book. I liked the fact that they actually recited biblical text. And Monty was a scary guy. It was okay for me.
Shot to the Heart is a delightful story. It is well written, with natural dialogue, romance, horses, action, suspense and even a villain. I would love to see it made, complete with "Robyn hood" and the archery that saves the damsel in distress.
Very nicely written novella. If it weren't for the craziness of what happened with Robyn's ex I probably would've been disinterested. Not because the book was a bore, but I know nothing of archery and never really liked the sport.
It was a fun, exciting and enjoyable story. It was humorous, hot and I couldn't put it down. It was a very good relaxing reading. I don't want to spoil it for you so I will just say I highly recommend it. I was given this advanced review copy and voluntarily review it.
