Socialism Is Dead! Long Live Socialism!: The Marx Code-Socialism with a Human Face:

Rate this book
Synopsis:

This work is divided into two autonomous books.

The first book, The State, represents a radically new political system of society, one which is the most democratic system ever possible! This is a completely new society, a real civil society, which otherwise in the capitalist system is only a utopia. In this book, I scrutinize the principles of scientific socialism; i.e., all those principles of Marxism concerning the state that build socialism as a political system.

The second book, The Economic Theory of Socialism, is a sequel, and as far as I know, the only sequel of the greatest work by Karl Marx - Capital. The economics of socialism makes Marx's socialism already completely possible. In this book, I scrutinize the economic laws that build socialism as a more effective economic system than capitalism. These laws are extracted from Marx's main work - Capital.

From 1917 to 1991, the totalitarian system in USSR and East Europe was called socialism, and even by the scientific nonsense and absurd names of communism and communist system. In this system, the official ideology was allegedly Marxism, but really it could not endure any Marxist criticism. There was never any socialism anywhere!

In the twentieth century, we passed through a system of utopian socialism as proof that this was not socialism that was not possible, but for the utopia of writers before and after Marx. We were visited by a utopian socialism, which at the contemporary stage is simply capitalism - state, monopolistic.

There is no better application of Keynes's doctrine than the "socialism" of the twentieth century. His "planned capitalism" is actually "planned socialism."

I've read many papers, theories, and concepts regarding socialism and Karl Marx (of course) in Uni. I've seen all kinds of takes on how it would work, what's great about it, or what's evil about it, and pretty much everything in between. When I saw that Bombov wrote this, an author I've read before, I was interested to see what he had to say.

This book is far different from his fictional sci-fi novel, but it still has the same undertone of clever thought. The deep dive into socialism as someone who lived in a socialist regime provides the insight we don't always see in American Uni; Bombov learned how these systems function in real life instead of theorizing about it. It's not just romanticized dreams; it's improvement through trial and observation in Bombov's case.

This is a really interesting read, well worth your time if you're interested in deep-dives in socialism and how this concept could apply to the modern world! Definitely recommend!

Eloquently written, Socialism is Dead! Long Live Socialism! by Todor Bombov shines a light on Karl Marx's philosophy known as Marxism, which explores Socialism, Capitalism, and Communism and the effect it has had on society. Engaging and intriguing, I enjoyed Todor’s book immensely, and I admire the passionate way in which he states the facts, which is also inspiring. Thanks to Todor’s extensive research, I now know a lot more about Socialism. The amount of time and effort that Todor has poured into Socialism is Dead! Long Live Socialism! is evident and one can’t help but admire his dedication to the cause. Luckily, Todor has other works that readers can explore and learn from. I highly recommend Socialism is Dead! Long Live Socialism! to readers interested in learning more about Marxism and Capitalsm.

Socialism Is Dead! Long Live Socialism! by Todor Bombov, is the most extensive treatise I have read on the subject of Socialism. In this extremely erudite and in many ways, eloquently written presentation, Bombov analyzes Marxist socialism, comparing the original ideology to the sick version which came to be in the USSR (the Communist bloc) and elsewhere, and comparing Marxist ideology to the ideology of Capitalism. His analysis includes detailed mathematical comparatives, showing the relative workability and functionality of Socialism, compared to the tyrannical and oppressive beast that came into fruition in Russia in 1917 and which eventually crumbled at the end of the 1980s. I gave the book a 5 star rating, not because I agree with Marxist ideology at all, but out of respect for the amount of detail, historical information, and the degree to which the author intelligently dissects the subject - a very difficult subject to talk about considering its history. Moreover, this author lived and endured Socialism under USSR rule in Bulgaria, which is what sparked my interest in reading the book at all. I wanted to understand why, despite having endured such an oppressed life, he would still give endorsement for the “pure” Marxist ideology. Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, there are some interesting facts presented - and of course, in his defense, Capitalism as it is today, has not exactly lived up to its ideals either; with its disproportionate and ill-balanced wealth distribution in the hands of the rich minority, corporate global monopolies taking over, the industry of war which is leveraged for profit and not the mantra of “democracy” and “national security” which we hear so often, and the destruction of our planet in the name of "the god of money". I’m not suggesting Socialism is the answer, not at all. I was raised in the West and I am a strong proponent of freedom, free enterprise and the right to live one’s life to the fullest, or not – however, even a blind man can see that Capitalism has its faults too. Set aside your ideological views and simply try to read the book objectively. The author has done, overall, an excellent job of presenting his case on the subject and deserves to be heard.

I could tell author Bombov has put in a lot of time and research into this book, and it really has spoken volumes. I have learnt a lot about what true socialism is. He explains how socialism can be created from oneself and society. The author really got me thinking on how to build a better future for myself. Bombov has used loads of facts from the past to give examples of points he has made which
gave me more reassurance and to believe. The biggest question Ive been asking myself is why
do we choose chaos in life when we can have order. It is very different to the usual fictional
books I’ve read. Thought provoking on many levels.

I am not a student of history, or even economics, so this was a difficult book for me to read and understand. I am not commenting on the accuracy of his statements or his world view, but instead on the way the author approached the subject.
The book is divided into 3 parts. The first discusses the State, the second is Economic, the third is a short manifesto. It does provide a good history of the thoughts of Lenin and Marx and how their theories evolved and manifested in society. The section on Economics was hard for me to comprehend, but there were plenty of equations to support the author's theories. Finally, the ending is a discussion of a new world order. I don't necessarily agree or disagree with the conclusions of the author, but I think he laid out a clear narrative on his thoughts.

One of the aspects I appreciated about this book is author’s ability to weave historical context with contemporary issues. He dives deep into the failures of traditional socialism, acknowledging its shortcomings while also advocating for a refreshed approach that keeps the core values intact. This balance between critique and hope is refreshing, as it encourages readers to think critically about political systems without losing sight of the ideals of equality and social justice.

The chapter on "the Marx Code" particularly stood out to me. Author breaks down complex concepts into easily digestible parts, making Marx's theories accessible even to those who may not be familiar with them. His argument for "socialism with a human face" resonates loudly, emphasizing compassion and community over dogma. I found this approach inspiring, as it calls for a practical and humane application of socialist principles.

However, the book isn’t without its flaws. At times, author’s enthusiasm can lead to overly optimistic perspectives on the implementation of these ideas. While the vision for a new world order is compelling, it occasionally feels detached from the practical challenges that would arise in pursuing such a transformation. A more in-depth discussion on the obstacles to achieving this vision would have added depth to the narrative.

Overall, the book is an engaging and thoughtful read that encourages dialogue about the future of socialism. It’s a call to rethink and reimagine social structures in a way that is compassionate and just. Despite some inconsistencies, the book ignites hope for a new approach to socialism that could truly benefit society.

‘A real civil society’ – a pressing need for Marxism today. Fascinating!

Bulgarian author Todor Bombov earned his degree in Economics and Computer Technology and has served as a Veteran Customs Officer. His books to date – OF RATS AND MEN, HOMO COSMICUS, and HOMO COSMICUS 2: TITAN, and now SOCIALISM IS DEAD! LONG LIVE SOCIALISM!

Having lived in Bulgaria during the USSR version of Socialism, the author provides valuable insights of experience as he analyzes the original Marxist socialism, competently and wisely comparing the original ideology to the distasteful and oppressive mutation in the USSR (the Communist bloc) and elsewhere. In doing so Bombov offers an erudite dissection of Marxist ideology and follows that with an equally sensitive examination of the ideology of Capitalism – a concept that in many ways is equally flawed!

In his Preface for US Readers, the author shares his arrest in1986 for writing the original chapter of this book, completing the book in 1993 following the “topple” of the communist regime. In 2016, thirty years after his arrest, he published this edition, with the intent to clarify the original Marx Code of socialism and its attributes while providing a solid evaluation of Capitalism – a timely book at this particular moment in US history! As he states, “I propound to the audience, my work for a FULL solution of the problem, the problem being CAPITALISM! It’s clear to me that only Marx’s socialism could settle this New World Order! The only possible way to lead us to this order (and to the future) is through science, and this science is Marxism!” “Return Marx – the greatest scientist of the second millennium!’

Defining Marxism as social equality and social justice, Bombov delivers the most informative and satisfying study of Marxism and Capitalism, opening our minds to consider alternatives – and find order instead of chaos. ‘The economics of socialism makes Marx’s socialism already completely possible.” A timely must read!

I've only read a 50-page sample of this but just wanted to write a few thoughts for any other potential readers.

What I have read, reads like it was created using a program like the automatic nonsense generator, a program which has been used for academic hoaxes. (or these days it could have been written by generative AI, but this was apparently published before those were created).

It just reads as nonsense. Or maybe bad translation? Or maybe it's just me.

(And note I'm not writing this trying to dissuade people from reading about socialism or anything, actually I very much think that democratic socialism is a great vision for society. Sad I've got to write this, but these days I guess we do have to make clear we are not trying to push some agenda.)

Also, looking at the reviews here on Goodreads, there are not many, and they do not seem idiosyncratic to me. Possibly as if they are AI generated (they are all recent). And I found this book from the recommendations of a seemingly unrelated book (in my case some D.F. Wallace stuff). I'm suspicious.

(And btw, I am sorry if you are a real reviewer, the actual content does seems well informed).

I picked an unusual pick this time. My latest read, "Socialism Is Dead! Long Live Socialism!" by Todor Bombov, is something that I have never explored. This book delves deeper into the true meaning of socialism based on Karl Marx's ideas. The author argues that past "socialist" regimes were forms of state-run capitalism. He suggests a new, people-focused system that supports transparency, democracy, and spiritual growth.
If someone is curious about what true socialism means beyond the failed models of the past, this book will offer fresh ideas drawn based on his experiences under Soviet rule. The author explains how socialism can be reimagined to create a more humane and democratic society. This read is thoughtful for anyone interested in exploring new ways to build a better future.
Overall it was an informative and thought-provoking investmest of time, though best suited for readers with some knowledge of politics or economical scenarios. At the end this book offers a hopeful view of how socialism can be reimagined for today's world.

As the basic question of philosophy is the question of being-consciousness correlation, so the basic question in scientific socialism is that one about the state.

An eye-opening exploration of socialism, looking at what went wrong in the past and how it can be reimagined for a better future is the perspective introduced by Socialism Is Dead! Long Live Socialism! by Todor Bombov. The book explains that the socialism of the 20th century wasn’t real socialism but more like state-controlled capitalism.

The author introduces the idea that true socialism should focus on fairness, equality, and treating people with respect. His message is clear, it’s time to rethink socialism and build a system based on humanity, justice, and hope.

Since Karl Marx introduced Socialism, numerous authors, philosophers, screenwriters, and countries have sought to explain and implement his fundamental ideas. "Socialism Is Dead! Long Live Socialism!: The Marx Code - Socialism with a Human Face: (A New World Order)" by Tudor Bombov expands on the direction Marx initiated. While I believe in the importance of equal opportunities for everyone, I recognize the challenges in making this a reality. The author has experienced life under a corrupt socialist regime but still believes that its core ideals can be realized in a more effective system. Having exam both socialist and capitalist systems, I appreciate their respective strengths and weaknesses. I commend the author for actively searching for solutions that may benefit humanity. The author is passionate about giving solutions to the corrupt system he grew up under.

information it goes to show the time and research he has put into this. I found some of the facts
I’ve read pretty interesting. Since reading this I have definitely learned a lot more about

This is a really interesting read, it is for sure very different to any fictional books I’ve read in the past, Bombov has wrote this in a very clever way, he uses real life scenarios and dives straight into socialism. Bombov got into so much detail giving historical examples, comparatives, and how socialism works. He went to such lengths to get facts and prove the points he makes, it is a hard topic to discuss but he manages to do it and keep me engrossed. So all I have to say
Todor has done an excellent job giving his view on this, and when reading this have an open mind.

"Socialism Is Dead! Long Live Socialism!" by Todor Bombov offers an in-depth analysis of Marxist socialism, contrasting its original ideals with the distorted versions seen in history. Bombov critiques 20th-century "socialist" regimes as state-controlled capitalism, diverging from true socialist principles. He advocates for a reimagined socialism centered on fairness, equality, and human dignity. This work provides a thought-provoking perspective on reconstructing socialism for the modern era.
