Faerie Path: Lamia's Revenge #1
The Serpent Awakes
Tania was living an ordinary life in the Mortal World until her sixteenth birthday, when she discovered that she was the long-lost princess of the Royal House of Faerie, daughter of King Oberon and Queen Titania. As the only Faerie who possesses the ability to walk between the Immortal and Mortal Worlds, she's balancing her two lives as best she can: making time to hang out with both sets of parents, getting to know her new sisters, and spending any spare moments with her boyfriend, Edric, a member of the Faerie court. But now an evil force has come to the Immortal Realm, targeting those Tania holds most dear--and threatening the entire Faerie world.

The art's merely okay; no action shots or real facial expressions.

I grabbed this book off the shelf for the cover, and for my interest in graphic novels. Had I realized I was coming in partway through the story, I think I wouldn't have picked it up, however, that doesn't make this an engaging tale.
Tania is an elf who was raised as a human. She lives partway between two worlds, as one of the princess daughters of Titania and Oberon, and also the Palmers, her human parents. Tania is realizing how hard it is to maintain friends in the human world when she cannot explain why she vanishes for times - she tells them she's in an exclusive school, with her boyfriend, Evan (Edric is his real name, and he is also an elf). When her best human friend, Jade, turns up with a new boyfriend, Will, and treats Tania differently, Tania's on the alert.
And when her human parents disappear and Will and Jade are the last people to see them - and Jade says that Tania's phone call is what made the Palmers leave - Tania thinks that Will has something to do with it.
This story is a continuation of the novels written by Frewin Jones, involving Tania and her family, and how she comes to find her birth family, and help rescue them from evil. It is interesting, but, again, I think I would have preferred to have read the novels prior to reading this manga.
The art style is clear, but the elfin sisters are a bit difficult to recognize. The storytelling is good, but again, I think I would have enjoyed it more if I knew who these people were to begin with, considering their story doesn't start with this manga.

This manga book is a good example of a novel's interpretation into the Japanese style of fiction.
THE SERPENT AWAKES brings elements from a Faerie world and the dramas of the mortal world together. Tania is the only member of the Faerie realm who can travel between the two worlds.
She was raised in the mortal world and did not know of Faerie's existence until her 16th birthday, when she found out that she was a long-lost princess of the Royal House of Faerie - and that she had sisters living in the Faerie world.
I enjoyed reading this book because of the many elements that it involves. Tania must deal with the mortal world, from juggling her time and fitting her friends into her schedule, and in the Faerie world she must also juggle the many events that are happening. Tania must figure out her priorities and decide on who she will help first, with evil stirring in both worlds.
Who will she pick: the mortals that she grew up with, or the world where she truly belongs, Faerie?

September 15, 2009I loved the first book in the Faerie Path series by Frewin Jones and so when I saw this in manga form I thought I may as well try it and see if I like it. I sure liked it.
The story line was a really interesting one. I thought it was a bit slow at first but it soon got into the story and became really interesting.
I loved the illustrations. Especially of the lamia. She was really well-drawn and cool looking. Some of the illustrations of Tania weren't really to my liking though, I thought that some of the expressions on Tania's face made her look mean or angry and it didn't match the mood of the story.
Apart from this I really enjoyed The Serpent Awakes and I will definitely be reading the second book when it comes out as the ending was quite a cliffhanger.
Overall, The Serpent Awakes was quite a good graphic novel. I would recommend this one to fans of fairies, Frewin Jones and manga-style books.

I love Alison Acton as an artist, it's the only reason I picked up this series. I didn't realize that it was a continuation of the actual series which has six books in it. Holy hell that's a lot.
Anyway, good plot, except I'm super confused cause I never read the books even though I totally need to now. I'm curious to see what happens next except the library doesn't have the rest of the series. Guess I'll have to order the actually written books while I wait for these ones to hit the shelves at my local library. I loved the artwork. (Obviously since I love Alison... did I mention I have commissions from her? She drew me a Van Fanel Bear (he's from my fav anime Vision of Escaflowne) and me as a bear. If you have no idea she draws Bear Nuts, check dat shit out)
It was a good easy read, should have read the books frist though

While not technically manga, this graphic novel looks like it, except that it reads like an American book, not back-to-front like Japanese manga. The story is fairly enjoyable, a girl who is able to travel from the Faerie world into the mortal world (and back the other way), and has families and lives in both places. Unlike most manga, which often seems choppy to me because of the translation, this book flowed relatively smoothly. At the end, there is an excerpt from a novel that inspired the graphic novel. I didn't get very far in the excerpt ... the graphic novel seemed must better written. I probably won't read the novels, but I will keep my eyes out for the next in this graphic novel series.

This book is about a girl named Tania who discovers that she is a faerie princess who can travel between the faerie world and the human world. She has issues with one of her friends, who claims she hasn't been putting enough time into their friendship. However, it's discovered that this girl's boyfriend is evil, and he helps the evil queen kidnap Tania's parents. This book ends on quite a cliffhanger. The illustration in this book is very good, and it compliments the story very well. I picked this book because it looked girly, which contradicted the stereotypical idea of graphic novel, but it worked really well! The story was very engaging, and it was a quick read.

Now I have to admit that I wasn't a huge fan of the novels these graphic novels are offshoots of. They were okay, but I wasn't in love with them. However when I saw this on sitting at the library I thought I'd pick it up.
And it was okay. The story was all right, the character's didn't really look like anything I pictured them to look like, but that's not on them that's on me. I liked that it wasn't a rehash of the novels, but it's own little story. I liked it enough to read the next one, but I'm not sure if I'll finish the series in regular book form.

I've recently been getting into graphic novels, but this is the first graphic novel in a series that I've read. I haven't read the original novels, nor do I think I will anytime soon. I enjoy the story, but not enough to pick up the full length series. I'm content with the graphic novel version, and will be checking out the next one from the library asap.

While this story was extremely interesting and I really enjoyed it, it is worth mentioning that the graphic novel seems to pick up where the book series leaves off, so if like me you have only read the first book in the Faerie Path series then there are spoilers galore.

This is my first graphic novel and I really enjoye seeing the characters come to life. I also like thaqt it goes off of the topics of the original Faerie Path books. I thought that it made for a nice difference, but I really enjoy reading more than reading a graphic novel.

I grabbed this because of it mentioning Titania and Oberon for I have a special place in my heart for a midsummer's night dream. I think I'm missing something though and was supposed to maybe read the novels first? Interesting. I'm not sure if I'll pick up anymore since it's not what I expected.

An utter failure and disappointment

I hadn't realized that this was a sort of sequel to the Fairy Path book. But it was fun, nonetheless! Pretty nice art, nothing special, and it's a fun, light read.

The art work is enchanting! It is one book in my collection I have no intention of parting with.

I like the art and plot. I haven't read the Faerie Path books but it was kinda easy to follow. It's a nice book to read.
